Hynek, Daisy P.

Cemetery: Czech National Cemetery

Daisy P. Hynek, 94, of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday morning, July 12, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids following a short illness.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 16, 2005 at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids with Rev Bob David, officiating. Inurnment will follow at Czech National Cemetery . Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until time of services Saturday at the chapel.

Daisy was born icon on April 8, 1911 the daughter of Carl and Zula Phelps formerly of West Liberty . Daisy graduated from Central City School and later taught at the school. She also worked at Legion Town Club as head of kitchen operations. She met Joe Hynek there and later married March 21, 1952 in Cedar Rapids .

Survivors include a son David Kamberling of Cedar Rapids, three grandchildren Robin, Holly Jo, and Amber Leigh Ross all of Cedar Rapids; three great-grandchildren Preston of Shellsburg, and Dylon and Rosa of Cedar Rapids; a brother James Phelps of Cedar Rapids; a brother-in-law Edwin Hynek of Swisher; and brother-in-law Verny Feuss of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Her husband Joe, four sisters Leota, Gwen, Tessie, and Bertha; one sister-in-law Lanelle Hynek, and two brothers Carl Jr and Van all preceded her in death.

She will always be loved and missed very deeply.

Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Samek, Leo Frank

Cemetery: Czech National Cemetery

Leo Frank Samek, 88 of Cedar Rapids died Saturday, June 25th 2005 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. July 6th, 2005 at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids with Rev. Wayne Adcock from First Congregational Church presiding. Burial with full military honors by the VFW Post 788 will be held in Czech National Cemetery following services. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 5th at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids .

He was born icon January 23, 1917 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Anton and Anna Vondracek Samek. He graduated from the old Washington High School . He married Leona Novak on September 22, 1948 at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids .

Leo joined the Iowa National Guard and served for three years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945, in the European Theater as a Staff Sergeant with the 634th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.

On November 11, 1945 he joined the Cedar Rapids Fire Department. He worked as a fireman until his retirement in February of 1972. After retiring he was employed by LinkBelt Speeder FMC for many years.

He was a member of First Congregational Church and a member of VFW Post 788. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends.

Survivors include his wife Leona of 56 years; a daughter Renee (Kevin) Kubik of Cedar Rapids; son Gary (Eileen) Samek of Muskegon, Michigan; his grandchildren, Kory and Sean Kubik of Cedar Rapids, Brian Samek of Muskegon, Michigan ; a sister Lillian Janousek of Cedar Rapids.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to Veteran of Foreign War Post 788, 3420 Southgate Place SW Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404 or First Congregational Church, 361 17th Street SE Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52403

Netolicky, Maxwell LeRoy

Cemetery: Oakland Cemetery

Maxwell LeRoy Netolicky, 91 of rural Solon died Sunday, July 3 peacefully on his farm. It was Max’s wishes not have any services at this time. Services will be held at a later date. Brosh Chapel in Solon is in charge of arrangements.

Max was born icon June 1, 1914 in Solon, the son of Dr. Joseph and Florence Devine Netolicky. Max was a graduate of Solon High School . As a child Max attended the Solon United Methodist Church. Max often reminisced about driving the horse and buggy for his father, Dr. Joseph, to visit area patients. He married Marcella Suchomel, November 3, 1948 at St. Bridget’s Church, Nolan Settlement. Max was a truck driver for Pete Randall, hauling livestock. He worked for many years as a bartender for Monk Meyers in Solon. He and Marcella farmed in the Cedar Bluff area for over 50 years. During this time he also raised and sold feeder pigs at the Kalona Salesbarn.

Max served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He served in the 68th Bomb Squadron based in . He earned the rank of Corporal and also was awarded 9 Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Solon American Legion Post #460.

He is survived by his wife Marcella; two sons, John (Kimberly) and Joseph (Linda) all of Solon; two daughters, Jane (Richard) Pike of Cedar Rapids, and Mary Jo (David) Meggers of Solon; seven grandchildren, Theresa (Doug) Hill, Scott (Catherine) Wall, Cara (Eric) Paulsen, Miranda Meggers, Max Meggers, Kimberly Pike, Daniel Meggers; four greatgrandchildren, Danielle Dady, Wyatt and Nathan Hill, Bailey Wall; three stepgrandchildren, Brad and Travis Pike, Leslie Hunter. Max’s surviving nephew and nieces are James Robert (Carly) Netolicky, JoAnn (Howard) Mottet, Sandra Wray, Donna Lee (William) Murphy and their families. He is also survived by a cousin Bob Devine of Minnesota .

Preceded in death by his parents, sister Marcella Wray; brothers James, Donald and Stanley Netolicky; and a nephew Dick Wray.

Haddy, Elizabeth Julia

Elizabeth Julia Haddy, 89, of Scottsdale, Arizona formerly of Albert Lea, Minnesota died June 15, 2005 in Scottsdale, Arizona . Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at St. George Orthodox Cemetery, Cedar Rapids with Rev. Elias Khouri, officiating. Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth was born icon in Blue Earth, Minnesota on September 16, 1915, the eldest child of Thomas and Frances Shaheen Haddy. She grew up in Walters, Minnesota and attended Business College in Mason City . She worked in her father’s general merchandise stores both in Kiester and Walters, Minnesota . She was married to John Haddy on August 6, 1933. During their 68 years of marriage, they owned and operated a general store in Walters, Minnestoa, Douds Market in Los Angeles, California, Haddy Egg Co. in Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Suncrest Poultry in Phoenix, Arizona . Those that knew her will remember her for her wonderful smile and her gentle spirit that touched everyone. She was truly and angel on earth and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her sisters Beatrice Abraham of Scottsdale, Arizona, Vernita Haddy and Juanita (Richard) Landon of Las Vegas, Nevada, brothers Joseph (Dorie) Haddy of Riverside, California, and Francis (Terry) Haddy of Rochester Minnesota, sisters-in-law Celia Risk of Phoenix, Arizona, and Lucille Evans of Fountain Hills, Arizona, and brother-in-law Albert (Delores) Haddy of Phoenix, Arizona, and her many loving and devoted godchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John Haddy, sister Lucille Haddy, sisters-in-law Freda Burger, Vivian Zachar, and Mary Shadid, and brother-in-law Sam (Fannie) Haddy.

Barnes, Marie C.

Marie C. Barnes, 77, well loved by her husband, children, and all who knew her passed away Sunday morning September 18, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center following a sudden illness.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids with Rev. William Harnish, officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Colorado. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Tuesday at the chapel.

Marie was born icon on September 12, 1928 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Emil and Agnes (Brosh) Sadecky. She married Don Barnes on September 7, 1985 in Englewood, Colorado. Marie was a homemaker caring for her home and family. She was also an avid golfer.

Survivors include her husband Don of Englewood, Colorado; daughter Dee (Gilbert) Davies of Cedar Rapids; son Steve (Julie) Pata of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren Keri, April, Jodi, Kendall, and Kylah; great-grandchildren Zachary, Tyler, Ontario, and Brandon; a sister Bernice McKibben of Littleton, Colorado; and a brother Richard Sadecky of Fairfax.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Morgan, Norma Jean

Cemetery: Linwood Cemetery

Norma Jean Morgan, 69, of Cedar Rapids passed away Sunday, September 25, 2005 from complications of a stroke.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 1, 2005 at Hope Lutheran Church with Reverend Dan Clark-Bridges, officiating. Interment will follow at Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Norma Jean was born icon on October 29, 1935 in Northwood, Iowa, the daughter of LeRoy and Alvina (Ennen) Wagner. She married Donald Morgan on May 8, 1976 after a seven year engagement at the Rock Island Court House in Illinois. Norma Jean worked at many businesses in the area including Cozy Inn, The Dragon, and Ramada Inn. She also was an Avon Lady. Norma Jean was a longtime member of Hope Lutheran Church, Elks Club, and Eagles Club. She also enjoyed volunteering with various groups such as meals on wheels.

Survivors include a daughter Elizabeth Peterson of Cedar Rapids; nieces Donna (Scott) Rhodes of Florida, Beatrice (Mike) Mango of Shueyville, and Cindy (Steven) Soy-Boever of Minnesota; nephews Ronald (Mary Ann) Soy of Minnesota, Steven (Sharon) Soy of Cedar Falls, Robert (Mary) Fite Sr. of Delta, Iowa, Lee (Kim) Fite of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and John (Eileen) Wagner of Missouri; great nieces and nephews, Terry Tiggemann, Denise Tiggeman, Barbara Morris, Cindy Picolet, Tonya Soy, Tammy Murphy, Thad Soy, Dylan Frohn, Robert Fite Jr., Jessica Newhaus, Rachel Garciea, Laura Geesaman, Larry Geesaman, Michael “Mick” Stoner, Brooke Fite, Brad Fite, Thomas Wagner, Tina Wagner, and Samantha Wagner; great-great nephews Jackson Soy, and Ian Geesaman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Raymond (Helen) Wagner and Denzel “Butch” (Helen) Wagner, and three sisters Helen (Joe) Flattery, Rosella (Fred) Fite, and Ardis (Chet) Soy.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.
