Sherard, Irman Lee
Cemetery: Rogers Grove near Ely
Irman “ Skip” Sherard Jr., 67, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, December 22, at St. Luke’s Hospital after a short illness. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 26 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Rev. Glenn Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Rogers Grove Cemetery near Ely. Visitation will be an hour prior to services Monday at the Chapel.
Survivors include his mother, Virginia Sherard, and a sister, Linda Schwartz of Tennessee; four children, David (Cathy) Sherard, Steve “Buzz” Sherard, Peggy (Terry) Cunningham, and Christy (Jeff) White; nine grandchildren, Erik, Brooke, and Josh Sherard, Alisha Beachler, Laura and Keri Cunningham, Derek and Ciara White, all of Cedar Rapids, and Amanda Sherard, of Las Vegas Nevada; two step-grandchildren Alisha and Audrey Cunningham; and three great step-grandchildren, Noah, Chase, and Jada Cunningham, from Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his father Irman Sherard, Sr., and a grandchild Melissa Fillenworth.
Skip was born
on April 4, 1938, in Louisville, KY, the son of Irman and Virginia Christine Downs Sherard Sr. He was married on September 5, 1959, to Betty Lou Huff, and they remained best of friends for over 50 years. Skip was retired and enjoyed life. A memorial fund has been established.

Renfrow, Velma Lee
Cemetery: Cedar Memorial Cemetery
Velma Lee Renfrow, 83 of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at the Bethany Home in Dubuque. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, December 16 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow in Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Chapel.
Velma was born
June 6, 1922 in Mechanicsville, the daughter of Frank and Louie Napier Williams. She grew up in the Depression Era, where hardwork was vital and finances were extremely limited. She married Ray Renfrow December 26, 1942 in Chicago.
Velma worked for over 26 years for Rockwell Collins in Quality Control as an Inspector. She was very proud of her job and all that it allowed her to do and see. She loved to travel all over the world, including China, Russia, and Europe. Velma loved music, especially Broadway musicals, big bands and country. She played the tuba, guitar and the piano. She enjoyed reading, watching History programs, dancing and socializing with all kinds of people. Velma cherished the time spent with her family and many friends. She was a loving and supportive mother.
Velma is survived by a son Daniel (Sue) of Des Moines; daughters Vayla Renfrow of Dubuque, twin daughters Vickie (William Corsaro) Renfrow and Vonnie Peischl all of Bloomington, Indiana, and Vivette (Donald) Lund of Chino Hills, California; grandchildren, Sasha, Kara, Ashley, Sonya, Lisa, Veronica, Jason, Brian, Nick, and Joey; great-grandchildren, Josh, Jana, Sean, Austin, Connor, Chloe, Brianna, Sammy and Kennedy; and a niece Ramona Post of Cedar Rapids.
Velma is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Wanda Baker and Nettie VanTassel, brothers, Vondan, and Danny Williams.

Erenberger, Rose Mary
Cemetery: 1st Presbyterian Church Cemetery
With great sadness and loving hearts the family of Rose Mary Coder Erenberger will lay her to rest 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 15th 2006 at St. John Lutheran Church in Ely. Burial will follow in 1st Presbyterian Church Cemetery rural Ely. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon and for an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Rose Mary, 90 passed away after a short illness, Saturday evening March 11, 2006 with all her children by her side. She was born
in Beloit, Kansas November 19, 1915. She was the youngest of seven children and graduated from Ely High School in 1934. She married Milo Erenberger September 29, 1934. They lived and farmed their entire lives in the Ely area for over 52 years. Milo passed away in 1986.
Left to honor her memory are five children Gene (Rosemary) Erenberger of Solon, Richard (Pearl) Erenberger of Ely, Bruce (Barbara) Erenberger of Sherrad, Illinois, Dennis (Mary Anne) Erenberger of Ely, and Michele (Walt) Steggall of Ely. Nineteen grandchildren, Joni Herdliska, Gail Tyler, Mike, Dave, Daniel and Glen Erenberger, Rhonda Havlik, Lonna Grimm, Brenda Olsen, Dennis, Dana and Doug Erenberger, Cindy Hancock, Karen Lomax, Lisa Whitehead, Tom and Katie Erenberger, Shana Staab, and Chase Steggall; 24 greatgrandchildren. Preceding her in death were parents Wylie Wilbur and Etta Mae Witham Coder, a grandson Willie Herdliska; four brothers Arthur, Wilbur, Howard and John Coder; sisters Iola Rischer and Irene Harvot.
Rose Mary still resided on the family farm and lived for all the visits from her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. All were welcomed with a smile and a full candy dish. Friday was her favorite day as that meant time with her many friends at Ely Congregate meals and an all day Pinochle tournament. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She truly enjoyed the simple things in life. Her family was often treated to the best kolaches in the county. Her family will be left with the many treasured memories to honor her.

Murphy, Madaline Margaret
Cemetery: St. Patrick Cemetery
Madaline Margaret Murphy, 89, of Fairfax died Friday evening, March 17, 2006 at the Mercy Hallmar Center following a long illness.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Fairfax with Father Phil Thompson, presiding. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Fairfax. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm on Monday at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids where a Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary will begin at 5 pm and a vigil service at 7 pm.
Madaline was born
on August 5, 1916 in Kinross, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard and Anna (Doyle) Monaghan. She married John E. Murphy on June 3, 1940 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She was a graduate of Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. While working at Cedar Rapids Pump and Supply she met her husband John. After their marriage they worked together at John’s business, John Murphy Plumbing and Heating. She was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and of the Altar and Rosary Society. In addition Madaline was involved with Catholic Order of Foresters Court 769. She served as Fairfax Township Clerk and was on the St. Patrick Cemetery Board of Trustees.
Survivors include her children Kathleen Murphy of South Bend, Indiana, Lois (Jerry) Rayman of Cedar Rapids, Donny (Maureen) Murphy of Cedar Rapids, and John (Chris) Murphy of Keokuk; grandchildren Bill Neff, Ann Ross, Jody O’Neill, Jill Maybanks, Tracy Murphy, Sean Murphy, and Matthew Murphy; great-grandchildren Alexis and Kristin Neff, Kaylee and Emilee Ross, and Evelyn and Owen O’Neill; six step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; a sister Mary Regina (Earl) Lorenzen of Cedar Rapids; a brother Charles Monaghan of Cedar Rapids, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John in 1988, brothers Leo, Leonard “Red”, and John Francis Monaghan, and a sister Geraldine Passino.
She was a kind, gracious, and independent woman whose main focus was her faith and her family. Death ends a life, but not a family

Aubrecht, Bonnie Jeanne

Bonnie Jeanne Aubrecht, 75 of Cedar Rapids died Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Living Center West. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Rev. Glenn Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 28th at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, and for an hour prior to services Wednesday at the Chapel.
Bonnie was born
February 10, 1931 in West Branch, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Cihla Murphy. She married Maynard P. Aubrecht December 24, 1946 in Cedar Rapids.
Bonnie is survived by two sons Brian (Susan) Aubrecht and Terry (Edna) Aubrecht all of Cedar Rapids; two brothers William (Donna) Murphy of Shellburg and Clarence (Bonnie) Murphy of Cedar Rapids.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Maynard who died August 2, 2003.

Vomacka, Joseph F.
Cemetery: Czech National Cemetery
Joseph F. Vomacka, 75, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at the Escondido Care Center after a long illness. He was born
December 25, 1930 in Cedar Rapids to Frank A. and Sylvia (Hurka) Vomacka.
Joseph attended Wilson High School, and then served four years in the U.S. Navy. He lived in Santa Cruz and San Jose, California, where he raised exotic fish, cockatiels, and flowers. He loved the California sunshine. His last years were spent in a care center in Escondido, California.
Joseph was survived by his sister and her husband, Marge and Cal Wagner, and a very special friend, Tim Thompson of Escondido, California. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George.
Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements. There will be a private funeral service at Czech National Cemetery.

Sonka, Charles W.
Cemetery: St. John Cemetery
Charles W. Sonka, 95 died Tuesday, March 28 at the Solon Care Center. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006 at St. Ludmila Catholic Church with Fr. Tom McDermott presiding. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids where there will be a 7 p.m. parish vigil. Visitation will also be an hour prior to services Saturday at the Church.
Charles was born
April 7, 1910 the son of Frank and Julia Medek Sonka in Linn County.
He married Velma Rushek October 25, 1933 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church near Solon.
Charles is survived by his sons Tom (Marilyn) of Cedar Rapids, Sam (Sheila) of Lexington, Kentucky and Dr. Steve (Vicki) of Cherokee; eight grandchildren Dr.Brian, Mark, Joe, Michael, David, Matthew, Tom and Nancy; five great-grandchildren Evan and Samantha Sonka, Isabel Sonka, Lukas and Julia Sonka; three sisters Sister Consolata Sonka of Omaha, Nebraska, Rose Rezac of Staten Island, New York, and Therese Ballard of Portland, Oregon.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife Velma who died on September 23, 1994, a brother Frank Sonka, and a sister Josephine Tisl.
Charles lived in Minnesota as a young boy, then farmed many years on land south of Cedar Rapids raising hogs and cattle. He loved gardening, Czech music and could play the concertina and harmonica. He loved raising and eating popcorn and playing pinochle. His real passion in life was talking about his grandchildren and the “good old days”. The last six years, Charles was a resident of the Solon Care Center, where he enjoyed many visits from his friends and family. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the caring staff who made it feel like home.
