Herman, Mary

Cemetery: Blain Cemetery

Mary Herman, 91, of Swisher, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2006 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 27, 2006 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Reverend Tom Carver officiating. She will be buried at Blain Cemetery in Rural Swisher. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to services Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids..

Mary was born icon on February 26, 1915 in rural Swisher, the daughter of Peter and Mary Reymon-Mihal. She was united in marriage to Edward Herman on April 9, 1935.

Survivors include two daughters Evelyn (Fred) Shelton and Joyce (Larry) Henkes; seven grandchildren Eric Shelton, Jaime (Theresa) Shelton, Julie (Kenneth) Berg, Brett (Elysia) Shelton, Tim (Wendy) Shelton, Randy Henkes, Susan (Travis) Cook; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Peter, and a nephew Kenneth Mihal. Mary enjoyed her crafts, crossword puzzles, fishing, taking care of her cats, sometimes gambling, trips to Kalona, her flowers, gardening, going out for rides, and reading the newspaper thoroughly.

There will be a luncheon following the service at the Swisher American Legion.

Godwin, Mary Ann

Cemetery: Cedar Memorial Cemetery

Mary Ann (Brant) Godwin, 53 of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, after a long and courageous battle with multiple myeloma, surrounded by family and friends at her home. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2006 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Reverend Barb Furman officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and for an hour prior to services Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.

Mary was born icon June 27, 1952 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the daughter of Richard and Joyce Brant. She graduated from Kennedy High School in 1970. She attended and graduated from Kirkwood College in 1981 with a degree in Nursing. Mary was a Registered Nurse with St. Lukes Hospital for over 26 years.

Mary, a thoughtful and loving wife, mother, and sister is survived by her husband Marshall H. Godwin; daughter Lanessa Godwin of Cedar Rapids and son Paul Godwin of San Diego, CA. She is also survived by her brothers Dennis (Sarita) Brant and Jeff (Peggy) Anderson; sister Nancy Adkins of Munford, TN; brother-in-laws Ron (Linda) Godwin, and Dennis Godwin of Olympia, WA, Brian (Mary) Godwin, and Mark Godwin; Sister-in-laws Deborah Godwin, Laurie (John) Erlacher, Amy Godwin and husband Jeff Pick; father-in-law Henry (Catherine) Godwin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Richard Brant and Joyce (Kenneth) Anderson; her grandparents Lilly and Raymond Brant and Charles and Lucille Moss.

The family would like to thank the staff at Iowa Blood and Cancer Care, St. Lukes Five Center nurses, and Mary’s very good friend and fellow employee Lisa Hughes.

Memorials may be directed to St. Lukes Hospice and or the Anna Purna Ghosh Foundation.

Divoky, Michael R.

Mike R. Divoky, 50 of Solon died Tuesday, May 9, 2006 from a sudden tractor accident. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Fr. David Wilkening presiding. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Solon.

Mike was born icon May 17, 1955 in Solon, the son of Richard and Doris Blahnik Divoky. He graduated from Solon High School in 1973. He married Jean Huey October 7, 1978 in Solon. Mike farmed in the Solon area all of his life. He enjoyed the time spent on his farm.

Mike is survived by his wife Jean; three sons Josh (Michelle) of Ely, Joe and Jon Divoky; his parents Dick and Doris Divoky; a granddaughter Sydney; and a special nephew Steve Miller; a brother Mark (Julie) Divoky; nieces Candice and Danielle Divoky all of Solon;

Preceding him in death was a brother in law, Steven J. Miller in 1977, and a sister Patti Divoky Miller in 1979.

Evans, Lydia Ann

Cemetery: Burr Oak ~ Alsip, Illinois

Lydia Evans, 93 of 2131 1st Avenue SE #104 Cedar Rapids, formerly of Chicago, Illinois went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 19 at St. Lukes Hospital. She is survived by a son Nelson Evans Jr.; daughters Elizabeth McKinney, Lydia Evans Jr., Pearl (Bernard) Gill all of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Alice Evans, Alizabeth Lord (Britt) Jetter, Gladys Evans, Nicole McKinney, James (Latisha) McKinney Jr., Nelson Evans III, LeShawn Lynn, Brittney Mitchell. Great grandchildren, Araf Evans-Sykes, Amber and Austin Mason, Erika, Rochelle and Brittany Floyd, Kendall Gresham, Jordan Burgett, Bari’ah Donelson, special nephew Robert Scott and niece Carolyn Morris. A host of nieces and nephews celebrate her home going.

Services will be Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 824 8th Street SE, Cedar Rapids, with Rev. Lonnie Jordan III presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m.Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids and for an hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2006 in Burr Oak Cemetery, Alsip, Illinois.

Metz, Judith

Cemetery: Oakland Cemetery

Judy Metz, 43 of Des Moines, formerly of Solon, died Saturday, May 20, 2006 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Pastor Dave VanVark officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Solon. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.

Judy was born icon May 23, 1962, the daughter of Glen B. and Nancy Miller. She married Marty Metz on December 19, 2003 in Newton, Iowa.

Judy is survived by her husband; father; daughter Sarah Carlson; son Joseph Carlson; brother Dennis; four sisters Jackie, Carolyn, Cheryl, and Diane; and one grandchild.

Judy was preceded into death by her mother; son Christopher; daughter Ashley; nephew Glenn; mother-in-law; and father-in-law.

Memorials may be directed to her husband, Marty Metz at 1226 East 21st Street in Des Moines, Iowa 50317.

Krizek Jr., Charles John

Cemetery: Czech National Cemetery

Charles J. “Chuck” Krizek Jr, 84 of Cedar Rapids died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at St. Lukes Living Center East. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2006 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Rev. William Harnish officiating. Burial will be in Czech National Cemetery, where there will be military rites conducted by the Ely American Legion San Quentin Post 555. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m, Thursday, and for an hour prior to services Friday at Brosh Chapel.

Chuck was born icon February 14, 1922 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles and Mary Kucera Krizek Sr. He married Martha Rompot, June 10th 1943 at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church. He served in the US Army during World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge during the War. Chuck worked for Penick & Ford from many years retiring in 1977.

Chuck is survived by his wife Martha of 62 years, a nephew Steven Krizek, Brother in law Donald (Sandy) Rompot and sisters in law Josephine Rompot, Sylvia Ulch and Sadie Rompot.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and his siblings.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

(Barton) Schlosser, Louise Rosalie

Cemetery:

Louise Schlosser, 78, of Cedar Rapids has gone home to be with the Lord on May 25, 2006, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2006, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Bishop Ray Zook of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.

Louise was born icon June 16, 1927 in Newton, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Florence Pearl (Parker) Barton.

Louise is survived by her daughters Florence Victoria (Tom) Perrin, Marilyn Michele Valley, and Rebecca Ellen Andrews; seven grandchildren Robert Perrin of San Francisco, CA, Christopher Andrews of West Branch, Robin McAllister of North Liberty, Jerico Andrews of Hills, Andy (Lisa) Valley, Aaron (Amy) Valley, and Matthew (Joan) Valley all of Cedar Rapids; three sisters Lucille Leggett of Oregon, Marge Taylor of Baxter, and Marilyn Forman of Texas; and four great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her sisters Charlotte Barton, Dode Barton, and Jean Bonewell.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
