Kriz, Vernon J.

Cemetery: Later date

Vernon John Kriz, 82 of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, from a brief illness. Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 21 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. A private family inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.

Vernon was born icon August 31, 1925 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles and Clara Kubicek Kriz. He was a past national champion drummer as a child. He graduated as class president from Wilson High School and was a member of National Honor Society. Vernon served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He married Celestine “Sally” Darrow on June 2, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. Vernon was a 33rd Degree Mason, a band member of the El Kahir Shrine Club, Past Master of Crescent Lodge #25, Sokol, Veterans Band, Jesters Club, Optimist Club, and the Cedar Rapids Horseman's Club. He taught drums for many years. Vernon owned and operated Lumberland for over 35 years in Cedar Rapids. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed by many.

Vernon is survived by his children: Judy Fields of Cedar Rapids, Steven (Vickie) Kriz of Mt. Vernon, and Jeri Wilson of Mukwonago, Wisconsin; ten grandchildren Koryn (Curtis) Anderson, Kirsten (Chad) Kallies, Devin, Garrett, Gillian and Wilson, Tyson, Dustin and Dayna Kriz, Katie and Kendall Cucinotta; two great-grandchildren Jade Upah and Dylan Kriz; a special companion Charlotte Baker of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Sally, a daughter Janet Cucinotta, sons in law Thomas Fields and Mike Wilson.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Sokol, Crescent Lodge, El Kahir Shrine, and or the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library.

Sebetka, Ronald Lee

Cemetery: St. Johns Catholic Cemetery

Ronald Lee Sebetka, 59 of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, May 18, 2008 at his home from a brief illness. As per Ron’s wishes there will be no services. A private inurnment will be held in St. Johns Cemetery.

Ron was born icon October 11, 1948 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Frank and Dorothy Matus Sebetka Jr. He served in the U. S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. Ron married Sandra K. Trout on October 5, 1972 in Iowa City. He worked for many years as a locomotive engineer for CRANDIC. He loved spending time with family, especially spoiling the nieces and nephews. He was a very kind and loveable man and he will greatly be missed.

Ron is survived by his wife Sandy, a brother Robert (Patty) Sebetka of Cedar Rapids; thirteen nieces and nephews, his aunts, as well as numerous cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a twin brother Donald and a brother Frank III, and his beloved dogs Cookie and Ashley.

Memorials may be directed to the family at 1609 C Avenue NW, Cedar Rapids.

Trpkosh, Rachel Elizabeth

Cemetery: Rogers Grove Cemetery

Rachel Elizabeth Clark Trpkosh, 98 of Ely, died Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, from a lengthy illness. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 25 at St. John Lutheran Church in Ely, with burial following in Roger’s Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids and for an hour prior to services Sunday at the church.

Rachel was born icon January 4, 1910 on the family farm east of Ely, the daughter of John O. and Elizabeth (Neiderhisar) Clark. She received her grade school education at the school in Ely, attended Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, and graduated from Grant High School in Cedar Rapids in 1928. Rachel attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She was employed by the Cedar Rapids Gas Company for seven years prior to her marriage. She married Milo Trpkosh on March 16, 1934 at St. John Lutheran Church in Ely. They farmed near Mt. Vernon for seven years and then moved to the Clark Family Farm near Ely where they continued to farm. She was employed at the Delta Chi Fraternity at the University of Iowa where she served as a housemother for 25 years, retiring in May of 1993, at the age of 83. During the summer months she was employed at Camp Thunderbird for girls in Bemidji, Minnesota. When she retired she returned to her farm near Ely where she made her home with her son and daughter in law Craig and Christine Trpkosh. Rachel was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Ely American Legion Auxillary, Ely Friendship Club, and a faithful member of Ely Senior Dining. She enjoyed playing pinochle, euchre and other games.

Rachel is survived by her six children; Linda (Phil) Thomas of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Robert (Charlotte) Trpkosh of Plano, Texas, Sueann Sherry (Don Gerber) of Redondo Beach, California, Timothy (Jackie) Trpkosh of Ely, Sally (Larry) Clark of Seneca, Wisconsin and Craig (Christine) Trpkosh of Ely, 22 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a sister Margaret Looney of Marshall, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, three sons, Larry, Roger, and Martin, a granddaughter Amanda Trpkosh, a great-granddaughter Kymara Morrow, four brothers Meryl, Andrew, John, and David Clark and a sister Lois Allen.

Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church and or Delta Chi Fraternity, Iowa City Chapter.

Jindrich, Adeline Rose

Cemetery: Czech National Cemetery

Adeline Rose Jindrich, 81 of rural Swisher died Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center after a brief illness. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fairfax. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. in Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, where there will be a 4 p.m. vigil.

Adeline was born icon February 15, 1927 in rural Swisher, the daughter of Frank and Anna Lamparek Ludvicek. She lived there most of her life. She was united in marriage to Marvin Jindrich October 12, 1948, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fairfax, and lived on the family farm in rural Swisher with her husband for nearly 60 years until October 2007.

Survivors include her three daughters, Darla Michalec of Fairfax, Connie Miller and husband Richard of Rowley, Renae Ward and husband Tony all of Cedar Rapids, nine grandchildren: Benji Michalec and wife Stacy, Mindi and husband Cole Young, Jesse Michalec, Heidi Michalec, Angie Miller, Alicia Miller, Brandi and husband Andy Lawrance, Nicholas Ward, Shawn Ward; and two great grandchildren Lexi and Lacy Young.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Marvin in July 2007; infant daughter, son-in-law Ben Michalec, a granddaughter Amy Miller; a brother Leo Ludvicek, and a sister Lillian Rohlena.

Adeline was a devoted farm wife and in the past worked at Lawrence Press and Waconia Sorghum Company. She was a member at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Fairfax, Fairfax Senior Citizens, WFLA Lodge 400 and the Farm Bureau.

Adeline’s passion in life centered on family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, frequent communications with her daughters and the many social events especially family night card club gathering with friends and neighbors. She was a loving wife, mother and friend. She enriched the lives of all that knew and loved her and will be greatly missed.

The family of Adeline wishes to express a special thank you to Dr.’s Vander Zee and Warren, Mercy Hospice, Home Health Nurse Chris, and all of the nursing staff at Mercy Medical Center for their care and support.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Cross, Mark Wesley

Cemetery: Shueyville Cemetery

Mark Wesley Cross, 43 of Lisbon, died Sunday, May 25, 2008 in his home. Memorial Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2008 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with inurnment following in Shueyville Cemetery in Shueyville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, where there will be a 6 p.m. rosary.

Mark was born icon November 18, 1964 in Iowa City, the son of Gene and Helen Novotny Cross. He worked as a welldriller for Aqua Drill. He married Holly Manley on June 23, 2007 at Lake McBride. Mark was a very kind and caring person. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his children. He will be greatly missed.

Mark is survived by his children Maria Vera Cross and Ivan Gene Cross both of North Liberty, his wife Holly of Lisbon, his mother Helen Cross of Swisher; his brothers and sisters: Dan (Julie) Cross, Paul (Debbie) Cross all of Swisher, Vince (Sonja) Cross of Cedar Rapids, Rita (Ed) Porter of Center Point and Anna Marie (Terry) Warren of Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his father.

Betty Jane Olson 77, West Union, formerly of Elgin, died Monday April 26, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo following a long illness. She was born icon September 6, 1926, in Clermont, IA to Byron and Ruby (Hader) Yauslin. She graduated from Clermont High School in 1945. She was united in marriage Alfred LeRoy Boleyn on December 25, 1945, at the Methodist Parsonage in Elgin. Three children were born icon to this union. Alfred 'Swede' died in an auto accident on May 30, 1957. Betty married Donald Gordon on June 6, 1959, in Wisconsin. Don also died in an auto accident on April 16, 1972. She married Alfred Olson on September 29, 1973, in New Albin, IA. Betty spent the last thirty years in West Union, IA, where she has resided in the Good Samaritan Center for the past year. Survivors include three sons, Norman (Susan) Boleyn, Jacksonville, FL, James Boleyn, Rockford, IL, and Bradley (Jettie) Boleyn, Fayette; five step-children, ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; five brothers, Roger Yauslin, West Union, John Yauslin, Clermont, Dick Yauslin, Elgin, Les Yauslin, Rockford, IL and Don Yauslin, Cedar Rapids and two sisters, Dorothy Williams, Oelwein and Lois Luchsinger, Clermont. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, and her parents.

Meyer, Marion M.

Cemetery: Oakland Cemetery

Marion Crozier Meyer, age 82, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2008 at 7:25 a.m. at home after a brief illness. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the Solon United Methodist Church with burial following in Oakland Cemetery near Solon. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon.

Marion was born icon November 17, 1925, in Juneau County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Archie and Maude (Kamp) Crozier. She received her elementary and high school education at Walford Consolidated School graduating from high school in 1943. In 1945, she graduated from Mt. Mercy Jr. College and attended the University of Iowa. She worked at Cargill in Cedar Rapids, ACT, and in the department of AV services in the Iowa City School District. Marion was united in marriage to George Meyer on January 7, 1947 in Solon. In addition to engaging in farming with her husband, she spent 18 years caring for her grandchildren before they entered kindergarten. In 1993, she and her husband moved from the farm to Solon. Marion was an active member of the Solon United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 13 years. Reading Scripture throughout her life was a great source of joy and fulfillment for Marion. She also enjoyed the many hours she spent with her family and grandchildren. Attending her children and grandchildren’s school activities and watching their accomplishments played a big part in her life. Marion had an avid interest in politics and closely followed all of the presidential elections that took place every four years.

Survivors include her husband George Meyer of 61 years of marriage, four daughters, Patricia (Tim) Turner, Onalaska, Wisconsin, Virginia (Greg) Kunkel and Jane Meyer, Solon, and Connie (Bob) Parnell, Marion; Grandchildren, Kris (Amy), Kyle (Erin), Aaron Kunkel; Ryan, Justin, Jacob Brown; Katie Turner and fiance, Shawn Christenson; Alexis Bailey and Tiffany Parnell; one great-grandchild, Isaac Kunkel, two sister-in-laws, Bernice Crozier, Fairfax, Ruth (Bill) Morio, Lisbon, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Maude (Kamp) Crozier, four brothers, Claude (Georgia), Darrel (Jessie), Bob, and Bill (Shirley) Crozier, two sisters, Joy (Virgil) Beese, Mary Lou (Clem) Erdahl, and infant twin daughters.

A memorial fund has been established in her name. Memorials may be directed to Solon United Methodist Church or Iowa City Hospice (1025 Wade Street).
