Lorraine Helen Krueger, 78, of Elgin, IA passed away on Monday, September 13, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Center, West Union, IA, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Lorraine was born icon December 18, 1925, in rural Clermont, Iowa to Walter and Sophie (Anderson) Follett. She was united in marriage to Kenton Krueger on February 14, 1945, at the First Baptist Church in Elgin. To this union, two children were born, Kurt, Minneapolis, MN and Karen, Davenport, IA. She graduated from Clermont High School in 1943. She went on to attend and graduated from Cedar Rapids Business College, after which she worked for the First National Bank in West Union. Lorraine and Kenton farmed for 15 years before moving to Elgin in 1960, where they owned and operated the Coffee Cup Café for a number of years. They then purchased her father’s insurance business, which they continued to operate for 30 years. Kenton and Lorraine enjoyed traveling, especially in their mini-home. They made so many good friends, whether driving across the bridge in Elgin and spending time with their fellow campers at Gilbertson Campground, traveling cross country by themselves or spending the week-end with their Good Sam Club. They also wintered in Apache Junction, AZ for the past 18 years, making many many wonderful friends. Music was a big part of Lorraine’s life, whether it was accompanying the Junior Choir at church or the choir in their mobile home park in Arizona. She was also an accomplished oil painter and loved painting scenes of the Arizona mountains and landscapes and Iowa farm buildings and countryside. Survivors include Kenton, her husband of 59 years; her children and their families, Kurt and his fiancée Mattie, Minneapolis, MN and Karen and Sam Roberts, Davenport, IA; her mother, Sophie Green, West Union, IA; grandchildren Krista (Ken) Bentson, Delmar, IA, Ryan (Tammy) Krueger, Maple Grove, MN, Stacy Roberts, Rochester, MN, Robyn (Bill) Morgan, Sauk Rapids, MN, Kelly (Ron) Gerard, Ft. Myers, FL, Stephanie (Sal) Gonzalez, Sauk Rapids, MN; ten great-grandchildren, who were Lorraine’s pride and joy; her sisters and brother, Betty Andres, Bonita Springs, FL, Henry (Karen) Follett, Clermont, IA, Marilyn (Ed) Waters, Overland Park, KS and Carolyn (Larry) Schatz, Lewiston, PA. Her grandson, Jeffrey Roberts; her father, Walter Follett; her step-father, Merwin Doughty; her step-father, Martin Green all preceded her in death, may they rest in peace.

Erma Jane Wilson

Erma Jane Wilson, 88, of Elgin, IA, died Monday morning, September 13, 2004, at her home, following a long illness. She was born icon June 16, 1916, in Elgin to Ray and Sadie (Patterson) DeSart. She graduated from Elgin High School in 1933, and the Waterloo School of Beauty Culture. Following her graduation, she worked in Postville for two years and then opened the Elgin Beauty Shop. She was united in marriage to Robert D. Wilson in Shreveport, LA on December 30, 1943. They were the parents of three daughters. In 1960, Erma Jane again opened her beauty shop in Elgin, which she operated for thirty years, retiring at age seventy-five. She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and also taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, her card clubs, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her daughters, Roberta (Hugh) Chapman, Alamogordo, NM, JoAnn (Robert) Shaffer, Elgin and Katherine (Vince) Schmitz, Grasston, MN; grandchildren, Larry Chapman, Coty Evans, Daniel Chapman, Amy Kerr, Lisa Naert, Jack and Karen Shaffer, Patrick and Laura Schmitz; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Norma Wilson, Elgin and Irene DeSart, Elgin and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bob in 1985; two brothers, Dean and Dale DeSart and a sister, Josephine Dunham.

Lee Allan Krambeer

March 23, 1942 - September 13, 2004

Lee Allan Krambeer, 62, Prairie du Chien, WI, formerly of Monona died Monday, September 13, 2004 at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born icon in Monona to Harlan J. and Ramona (Schultz) Krambeer on March 23, 1942. Lee was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. He graduated from Monona-Farmersburg High School in 1960. Lee attended Dunwoody Technical School in Minneapolis for auto body. He was united in marriage to Sharon Koopman at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg on August 25, 1963. Three children were born icon to this union. Lee worked for Huinker Chevrolet in Monona, was self employed at Krambeer Shell and Auto Body and then Lochner Motor in Prairie du Chien. He was presently employed at Great Country Motors, Prairie du Chien. Survivors include his mother, Ramona Krambeer, Prairie du Chien; three children, Rayne (Mary) Krambeer, Port Byron, IL, Jared (Linsay) Krambeer, Monona, Wade (Molly) Krambeer, Rochester, MN; two grandchildren, Joshua and Danielle Krambeer and one uncle, James, (Barbara) Krambeer, Lake View, IA. He was preceded in death by his father in 1968, paternal and maternal grandparents, John and Ella Krambeer and Carl G. and Frieda Schultz.

Elmer John Rodas

Elmer John Rodas, 86, died Wednesday, September 8, 2004, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home, Edgewood, of a massive brain tumor. He was born icon May 2, 1918, on the family farm near Littleport to Fred and Edna (Winch) Rodas. He was baptized and confirmed in the Hope Lutheran Church, Littleport. Elmer received his education in Littleport, graduating with the class of 1936. He was united in marriage to Lyla Ruroden on October 28, 1940. Two sons were born icon to this union. Elmer and Lyla were married for over sixty three years. Elmer farmed all of his life on the family farm, semi-retiring twenty years ago. He retired five years ago, to do only yard work and gardening. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife Lyla; two sons, Loren (Nancy) Rodas, Hazel Green WI, Dwight (Janis) Rodas, Littleport; four grandchildren, Danielle (Mike) Pape, Edgewood, Eric (Jennifer) Rodas, Dubuque, Brenda (Troy) Middendorf, Hazel Green, WI, Darci (Dale) Middaugh, Sussex, WI; seven great-great grandchildren; sister, Irene (Fleet) Peake, brother, Marvin (Jeanine) Rodas; numerous nieces and nephews and a cousin Henry Rodas, Littleport. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and a baby sister in infancy.

Richard E. Deerr

April 22, 1915 - September 07, 2004

Richard Earl Deerr was born icon April 22, 1915, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, to Byron and Emma Deerr. He received his education and graduated from Belle Plaine High School. Richard was united in marriage to Neva E. Boelter on April 6, 1941, in Rowley, Iowa, where they owned and operated a grocery store and locker until 1949. They moved to Manchester in 1949 and Richard owned and operated a Skelgas business until 1960. In 1960, he went to work as a Sales Representative for Energy Manufacturing in Monticello and later for the Brenner Tank Company in Fondulac, WI. Richard also owned and leased cargo tanks. He retired in 1982. Richard died on Tuesday, September 7, 2004, at the Good Neighbor Home following a brief illness. He was eighty-nine years of age. Survivors include his wife, Neva Deerr of Manchester; his son, Milton C. Deerr of Surprise, Arizona; one granddaughter, Carrie Deerr of Live Oak, Texas; a brother, Donald Deerr of Cedar Rapids; and a sister Mary Lou Stearns of Walford. His parents, a brother Byron, and a sister, Bertha preceded him in death.

Richard was a member of the First Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Masonic Lodge, Shriners, and Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, traveling, and their cabin on Lake Delhi.

The family prefers memorials directed to Good Neighbor Home or First Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers.

Raymond J. Klostermann

Raymond Joseph Klostermann was born icon on April 5, 1920, in Petersburg to Frank and Teresa (Schneiders) Klostermann. He received his education in the Petersburg/Luxemburg area. Raymond was united in marriage to Rita Deutmeyer on January 28, 1948, in Dyersville. They farmed near Ryan for two years and then moved north of Manchester and farmed until 1983, when they retired in Manchester. Raymond was a fifty-three year member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, enjoyed fishing, farming, golfing, cards, and his friends, family and grandchildren. Raymond died at his home on Sunday, September 5, 2004, following a brief illness. He was eighty-four years of age. Survivors include his wife, Rita Klostermann of Manchester; eight children, Linda (Dave) Harris of Manchester, Lois (Bill) Pettlon of Strawberry Point, Jean Chapman of South English, Dan Klostermann of Los Angeles, California, Gary (Sue) Klostermann of Manchester, Karla (Mark) Burkle of Dubuque, Dean (Chris) Klostermann of Manchester and Kevin (Dawn) Klostermann of Manchester; nineteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elma Naber of Manchester and Mary Ann Bockenstedt of Strawberry Point. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Russell Chapman; and five brothers, Harold, Eddie, Lawrence, Arnold, and Elmer “Bud” Klostermann.

He served in the army during World War II, participating in New Guinea, Luzon, and the Bismarck Archipelago battles in the South Pacific.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Ray’s name.
