Milo Lee William Timmerman, 67, Monona, IA, died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at his home following a long illness. He was born icon July 13, 1938, in rural Allamakee County to Theodore and Pearl (Wilke) Timmerman. Milo graduated from Monona High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Marie Swenson on March 19, 1959, in Waukon. Six children were born icon to this union. Milo grew up on a dairy farm. He worked at local creameries in Volney, Monticello, New Albin and Swiss Valley in Luana from 1975 to 1999. He loved to hunt on the Moose family farm. Milo enjoyed deer hunting with family, squirrel hunting, WWF Wrestling, Nascar and the Chicago Cubs. He had a favorite saying – "If they didn't know us when we got there, they knew us when we left". Milo held a special place in his heart for June and Orville Nuehring. Survivors include his five children, Kevin (Lauri) Timmerman, Mt. Horeb, WI, Loren (Chris) Timmerman, Shelby, MT; Kristi (Terry) Guy, Colo, Julie (Randy) Schnuelle, Castalia, Kari (Nick) Nalevanko, Des Moines; grandchildren, Andrew and Christa Timmerman, Travis and Tyler Guy, Dylan and Sarah Schnuelle and Anna Nalevanko and one sister, Marilyn Moose, Monona. Milo was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on July 11, 1988, one daughter, Karen Timmerman and one brother-in-law, Albert Moose.

Shirley Jean was born icon in Sparta, Wisconsin on May 26, 1928, to Julius and Myrtle (Sadd) Baumbach. She was raised and educated in the area. They later moved to the Lansing, Iowa where she graduated from high school Shirley was united in marriage to Curtis Olson in 1947. Three children were born icon to this union. They were later divorced. Shirley was united in marriage to Paul Logan on June 5, 1977. Together they resided in Quasqueton until returning to Manchester in 2004. Paul died April 7, 2005. Shirley had worked over the years at C & S TV, Manchester Bowling Alley, Al & Norma’s Café and twenty-seven years at the Good Neighbor Home. Shirley died suddenly Friday morning, July 22, 2005 at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. She was seventy-seven years of age. Shirley will be remembered as one who enjoyed antiques, bowling, and cooking. Survivors include her two sons, Ronald (Jane) Olson of Manchester, and Dennis (Ramona) Olson of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Debra Massingham of Wichita, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Logan; her parents; three brothers, Alvin, Harold, and Jerry Baumbach; and twin grandsons in infancy.

Eleanor Rebecca Olson, 85, of Elgin, died Friday night, July 22, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Center in West Union, following an extended illness. She was born icon May 31, 1920, in Frankville Township, near Decorah, IA, to Albert and Amanda (Rovang) Linnevold. She graduated from Decorah High School. She was united in marriage to Normal Olson on March 18, 1945, at Washington Prairie Church. Three children were born icon to this union. They made their home in the Elgin area, where Eleanor enjoyed gardening and embroidering. She worked for Iowa Turkey Products from 1958 until 1993. She was a member of the Elgin Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Eleanor was a very giving person and will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her three children, Virginia (Kerry) Luchauer, Center Point, Gordon Olson, Cedar Rapids and Rebecca Wood, Duluth, MN; nine grandchildren, Teresa Seepolt, Jerilynn Knepper-Smith, Tony Luchauer, Nicole Luchauer, Joel Max Luchauer, Ryan Wood, Amanda Wood, Andrea Wood and Rhianna Wood and five great-grandchildren, Sammee Henderson, Andrew Knepper, Nathan Knepper, Samuel Smith and Cassie Luchauer. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in February of 1986; a brother George Linnevold and two brothers in infancy; a sister, Adelaide Jellison and one sister in infancy. The family wishes to give their thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Good Samaritan Center for their excellent care and concern. Memorials may be directed to the Good Samaritan Center, West Union or the Elgin Lutheran Church.

Wilma Ann Berns, 70, Monona, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at her residence following a brief illness. She was born icon September 2, 1934, in Dyersville to Albert and Marcella (Nachtman) Deutmeyer. She was baptized September 2, 1934, received her First Communion May 17, 1942, and was confirmed November 23, 1947, all at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. Wilma attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic School through the eighth grade. She was united in marriage to Louis Berns on February 7, 1956, by Monsignor Hoffman at St. Francis Xavier Basilica. Seven children were born icon to this union. Wilma helped Louis on the farm her entire life. Following retirement, she worked at Monona Greenhouse. She loved entertaining her family and friends, her grandchildren, flowers, gardening and playing cards. Survivors include her husband Louis, Monona; her children, Dan (Lisa) Berns, Farmersburg, Al Berns, Farmersburg, Bob Berns, Luana, Ron (Barb) Berns, Monona, Tom (Jo) Berns, Luana, Brian (Kerri) Berns, Luana; seventeen grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Floyd) Westhoff, Guttenberg, Theresa (Elmer) Bries, Monona; two brothers, John (Joyce) Deutmeyer, Dyersville and Jerry (Alice) Deutmeyer, Dyersville and many nieces, nephews and friends. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and one son Tim Berns.

Miriam Ethel Hamlin, 91, of Edgewood died Monday, July 18, 2005, at the Edgewood Convalescent Center following an extended illness. She was born icon June 10, 1914, in Putnam Township, Fayette County, daughter of Alexander and Ethel (Coon) Moser. She attended Hewitt Creek Country School and Strawberry Point High School. She was united in marriage to Harold Hamlin on December 24, 1938, in Elkader. One son was born icon to this union.Mrs. Hamlin and her husband, Harold, owned and operated restaurant businesses in Oelwein and Anamosa from 1942 – 1970. Their Sunset Cafe' in Oelwein featured a talk program where listeners could tune in to friendly local chatter. Miriam was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was active in UMW. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Edgewood Grange. She was well known for her homemade pies and even in retirement she continued to favor family and friends with pies. In addition to cooking and baking, Miriam loved flowers. Survivors include two grandchildren, Jeffrey Damon and Valerie Damon and numerous nieces and nephews. Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold on January 10, 1978; her son Stephen; five brothers, Paul Moser, Martin Moser, Donald Moser, Howard Moser and Joy Moser and four sisters, Ruth Vierow, Ruby Baker Harper, Agneta Feller and Lela Hartman. Darlene Jean Halverson, 69, Monona, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, WI, following a brief illness. She was born icon September 15, 1935, in McGregor to Anton and Ruby (Mount) Hertrampf. Darlene attended Sixteen County School through the eighth grade. She was baptized October 28, 1956, at Monona Methodist Church and confirmed December 19, 1969, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. She was united in marriage to Palmer Halverson on October 6, 1963, at Caledonia, MN. One son was born icon to this union. Darlene was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards and watching TV. She loved her animals, especially the geese. Survivors include her husband, Palmer, Monona; one son, Roger (fiance' Jennie Adrian) Halverson, Monona; five step-children, Phyllis Wiggins, Clermont, Peggy (Dale) Cooksley, Elgin, Kathy McDermott, Marion, Steve (Robin) Halverson, Garrison, KY, Sue (Jim) Halverson, Marion; two grandchildren; fifteen step-grandchildren; twelve step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marcella Ewing, Van Couver, WA, Patricia (Ronald) Hill, Chatfield, MN; one brother, Lee (Cindy) Hertrampf, Waukon, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Lamont Halverson; one sister, Gertrude Johanningmeier; three brothers, Lester Hertrampf, Raymond Hertrampf and Donald Hertrampf and one step-granddaughter, Gena Schanbeck.

Leona Mae Wessel Lewin was born icon in Wood Center, Iowa on November 8, 1926 to Irving and Mildred (Brockmeyer) Wessel. After graduating from Edgewood High School she married Chuck Lewin of Elkport. Together they farmed in the Edgewood/Elkport area for several years. After they moved to Edgewood, Leona worked at the Strand Cafe and later, the Edgewood Locker. Leona enjoyed many years of working for the Kerns family at the locker and with their catering business. Leona never found a club or organization that she didn’t like! She not only joined them, but she became an active member often taking leadership responsibilities. The list of her activities is long: *member of Trinity United Methodist Church *past president of United Methodist Women, chairperson of Funeral Committee, secretary of Hope Circle, and member of mission committee *Past Master of Woodland Grange #2223 and member of Pamona Grange *president of United Service Women *president of Pythian Sisters Past Chiefs and officer in Edgewood Temple No. 45 of Pythian Sisters *president of Senior Citizens *Secretary of Edgewood Garden Club *vice President of Edgewood Legion Auxiliary No. 512 *secretary of Ebenezer Cemetery Board *head of Kitchen at Plagman’s Barn, member of board and long time worker *member of Edgewood Women’s Club *member of Jolly Joker and Lucky Five card clubs *board member of Greeley Meal Site Though Leona did not have children of her own, she found great joy in the families of her nieces and nephew and the Kerns family. Bringing apple pies, her famous filled cookies, home canned pickles, or other good cooking was just standard operating procedure for Leona when she came to a family gathering. Leona had lots of hobbies other than cooking. Many friends and family have been the recipients of her lovely doilies, crocheted pillowcases, or afghans. She enjoyed watching sports of all kinds (especially the EdCo Vikings), doing word puzzles, growing flowers, driving friends on errands or to meetings, taking bus day drips, and just visiting with people. Most of all, Leona was always willing to help and was the best worker you could ask for! The family that will be missing Leona include her brother Carl (Donna) Wessel; nieces Jane (John) Metcalf, Alane (Roger) Swales, and nephew Greg (Angie) Wessel as well as her great nieces and nephews, Lindsay (Clint) Cota, Ryan Swales, Johanna (Nat) Tone, Molly Reimer & fiancé Austin Gill, Allison Wessel, Madeline Wessel, Donovan Wessel, and Jonathan Wessel, many cousins from the area., and of course, dear friends will miss her too. Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy, and her parents.

Robert 'Bob' James Geno

Robert 'Bob' James Geno, 68, of Harper's Ferry, died Tuesday June 28, 2005, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI, following a courageous battle with heart disease. He was born icon on April 28, 1937, in Elkader to Albert and Lucy (Needham) Geno. Bob graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic School and Meat Cutting School. Bob was a meat cutter for a short period of time and then owned and operated Geno's Tavern in Elkader. For the majority of his life, Bob was a lineman for L. E. Meyer’s Company. Bob met and married Patricia Farrell on July 6, 1973. He moved his family to Harper's Ferry, where he owned and operated a river front resort. Bob auctioneered and continued to sell real estate for the remainder of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Geno, Harpers Ferry; three children, Lee Todd Geno (Dee), Hiawatha, Robert (Scott) Geno (Lynn), Volney and Julie Lynn Heying (Wes), Monona; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Olson (Leland), St. Olaf; numerous nieces and nephews; cousins and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Alberta French.
