Wade Jeremy Krambeer, 30, Rochester, MN, formerly of Monona, died August 24, 2005, at his home following a sudden illness. He was born icon on August 23, 1975, at Prairie du Chien, WI, to Lee and Sharon (Koopman) Krambeer. Wade was baptized November 8, 1975, received his First Communion July 5, 1987, and was confirmed on April 28, 1991, all at St Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. He graduated from MFL Mar-Mac High School in 1994, and went on to graduate from Kirkwood Community College with an Associates Degree. On October 20, 2001, Wade was united in marriage to Molly Stoffel at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. Wade worked at Wilkes in Monona part time while attending high school. For the past eleven years, he worked at HyVee, where he was part of the management team. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his dog Butch. Wade loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and golfing. Survivors include his wife Molly, Rochester, MN; his mother, Sharon Hefel, Monona, two brothers, Rayne (Mary) Krambeer, Port Byron, IL and Jared (Lindsay) Krambeer, Monona; paternal grandmother, Ramona Krambeer, Monona; mother and father in laws, Dan and Judy Nielsen, St. Olaf and Tom and Sherri Stoffel, Elkader; sister-in-law, Holly (Tim) Wille, Elkader; one nephew, Josh Krambeer; three nieces, Danielle Krambeer, Madeline and Mary Kate Wille. Wade was preceded in death by his father Lee Krambeer, paternal grandfather, Harlan Krambeer, maternal grandparents, Richard and Gertrude Koopman and his step-father, Carl Hefel.

Alice Laura was born icon on April 4, 1905, near Delhi to John and Anna (Quirin) Wilson. She received her early education in Delhi and attended St. Xavier’s Catholic High School in Manchester. Alice was united in marriage to Edward G. Hanfelt on April 30, 1934, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester. Together they lived in Manchester until Ed’s death in 2001. Alice was employed at the Glen Charles Hotel in Manchester for thirty-two years. Alice died at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester on Tuesday, August 23, 2005, following a short illness. She was a resident there for six years. She was one hundred years of age. Alice was a long-time faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was the oldest member of the parish. She enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives, bingo, and appreciated the caregivers she had at the Good Neighbor Home. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Charlie and Janet Gaffney. Alice was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; five sisters, Alta Hanfelt, Mable Keith, Maude Smith, Florence Gienapp, and infant LuAnna Wilson; and two brothers, John and Lloyd Wilson.

Vera M Mead

Vera was born icon January 15, 1908, at Masonville, Iowa to Edward and Julia (Oakley) Lane. They later moved to the Manchester. Vera graduated from the Manchester High School in 1926. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls where she received her teachers certificate. Vera taught in several rural schools. Vera was united in marriage to Harry Mead on June 6, 1929, , at Strawberry Point. Four children were born icon to this union. Together they farmed in Delaware Township, Delaware County for fifty-five years. Vera and Harry spent twenty-nine winters in Douglas, Arizona. Harry died in 1984 and Vera moved off the farm to reside in Manchester. Vera died Wednesday, August 17, 2005, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. She was ninety-seven years of age. Vera was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women Circle (Golden Link Circle), and the Eastern Starr. She will be remembered as one who enjoyed crocheting and playing cards with her friends. Survivors include her four children, Frank(Greta) Mead of Delhi, Helen (Laurence) Lillibridge of Prescott Valley, Arizona, Robert (Barb) Mead of Manchester, and Carol Buchanan of Omaha, Nebraska; nineteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister Mildred Bushnell of Omaha, Nebraska. Besides her husband, Vera was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kay Krogman; one great-granddaughter, Jene Rose Lillibridge; one brother, Lester Lane; and her parents.

Alvea Miller, 95, of Elkader, died Friday, August 12, 2005, at the Guttenberg Care Center, following a long illness. She was born icon September 9, 1909, in Farmersburg Township to Albert and Louise (Gottschalk) Lenth. She started school in a country school, and later finished in the Farmersburg Public School. She was united in marriage to Leo C. Miller. Alvea worked as a clerk in local stores for many years, and loved working with people. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Guild and had been a member of the Central Community Hospital Auxiliary. Survivors include her nephews, Gary (Karen) Puffett, Minneapolis, MN, Jon (Sharon) Miller, Pella and other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1998, four brothers and five sisters.

Kenton Krueger passed away Sunday evening, August 7, 2005, at his home in Elgin with Kurt, Mattie, Sam and Karen at his side. Kenton Keith Krueger was born icon on July 20th, 1923 in rural Elgin to Edwin A. and Metta (Miller) Krueger. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Follett on February 14, 1945, at the First Baptist Church in Elgin. To this union, two children were born icon – Kurt, Minneapolis, MN and Karen, Davenport, IA. Kenton graduated from Elgin High School in Elgin in 1942. Kenton and Lorraine farmed for many years before moving to Elgin in 1960 where they owned and operated the Coffee Cup Cafe for a number of years. They then purchased Loraine's father's insurance agency which they ran together for thirty years. Kenton was one of his insurance company's top salesmen, winning many trips and sales awards. Kenton and Lorraine enjoyed traveling, especially in their mini-home. They made so many good friends, whether driving across the bridge in Elgin and spending time with their fellow campers at Gilbertson Campground, traveling cross country or spending the weekend with their Good Sam Club. They also had a home in Apache Junction, AZ, where they spent their winters for the past eighteen years, and had many wonderful friends. Survivors include his children and their families, Kurt and his wife, Mattie, Minneapolis, MN and Karen and her husband, Sam Robert, Davenport; grandchildren, Krista (Ken) Bentson, Mankato, MN, Ryan (Tammy) Krueger, Maple Grove, MN, Stacy Roberts, Rochester, MN, Robyn (Bill) Morgan, Sauk Rapids, MN, Kelly (Ron) Gerard, North Ft. Myers, FL, Stephanie (Sal) Gonzalez, Sauk Rapids, MN; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Lillian Habeger, Elgin; one sister-in-law, Helen Krueger and many nieces, nephers and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine; his grandson Jeffrey Roberts; his parents; his sister Esther; his brothers Edward and Lyle and Sparky, his constant companion, may they rest in peace.

Viola Ida Lenth, 90, of Elkader, died Tuesday morning, August 2, 2005, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, following a brief illness. She was born icon May 14, 1915, on a farm in Farmersburg Township to Carl and Anna (Fascher) Lenth. She was baptized June 26, 1915, in the parsonage of the Freiden’s Evangelical Church by Pastor E.C. Franke. Viola attended Farmersburg schools and graduated from Elkader High School. She was united in marriage to Harold A. Mueller on July 4, 1940, in the parsonage of the Congregational Church in Elkader. They made their home in Elkader where Viola worked at the Walgreen Agency. Harold died in February of 1946. She married Anthony M. Cerjan on November 8, 1948, at St. Peter’s in Prairie du Chien, WI. Together they started a plumbing and heating business, which they operated for a number of years. During this time Viola also worked for the Clayton Co. Register and was involved in helping with the start of Bethany Lutheran Church. Survivors include a niece, Mary Ann Koenig, Cedar Rapids and a nephew, Dennis Lenth, Cedar Falls. Besides her husband, Viola was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lorado Lenth.

Douglas Paul Kirby was born icon January 21, 1953, to Augustine and Erma (Davis) Kirby in Monticello, Iowa. Doug attended school at Edgewood-Colesburg and graduated from high school in 1971. He married Linda Marie Bolinger on May 16, 1970, at St. Mark’s Church in Edgewood. Doug and Linda had five sons and spent more than thirty-five years together in Delaware County. Doug lived near Hopkinton, Dundee, Edgewood, and Ryan, but for the last thirty-three years of his life he resided north of Manchester. Doug was a farmer with his wife and partner Linda, and owned and operated a large livestock farm that he spent much of his life building. He was a hard-working and honest man with many friends. Upon meeting Doug, one was impressed by his genuine, sincere, and down-to-earth character and he was highly respected within the Delaware County Community. Even with his unmatched work ethic, he found time to assume many roles and touched many lives. Whether the role was as a husband, father, brother, friend, golf partner, horse-riding buddy, hunting companion, or a little league coach his passion for life and character left a lasting impression. Doug enjoyed being in the outdoors at work or play and loved sharing a laugh or smile. Douglas Paul Kirby died on Sunday, July 31, 2005, as the result of a tractor accident northeast of Masonville. He was fifty-two years of age. Survivors of Doug include his wife, Linda of Manchester; four sons, Jason Kirby of West Glacier, Montana, Dan Kirby of Bellevue, Lance (Kelley) Kirby of Williamsburg, and Scott Kirby and special friend Lindsay Swartz of Iowa City; one sister, Susan Kirby of West Union; three brothers, Dennis (Marcia) Kirby of Edgewood, David (Mary) Kirby of Edgewood, and Craig (Georgia) Kirby of Colesburg; many nieces and nephews; and two honorary grandchildren, Hunter and Hope Girling of Bondurant. Doug was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant son, Spencer.

David John DeShaw

David John DeShaw, 45, Elkader, died Friday, July 29, 2005, at his home following a sudden illness. He was born icon January 6, 1960, in Manchester, IA, to Francis and Donna (Hilbert) DeShaw. David graduated from Central Community School, Elkader. He was a member of the Army Reserves. David worked at Prestolite in Manchester for a number of years until a car accident fourteen years ago left him disabled, Osmundson Livestock in Volga and helped neighbors. He loved spending time with family and friends, reading, playing cards, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. Survivors include his parents, brothers and sister, Dennis (Linda) DeShaw, Pocahontas, AR, Linda (Chris) Widmar, Centerville, Ed (Donna) DeShaw, Elkader, Ron (Kandi) DeShaw, Monona, Tim DeShaw, Independence, MO; paternal grandmother, Virginia DeShaw, Strawberry Point and many nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Duane DeShaw; maternal grandparents, Minnie and Walter Schmitt and one nephew, Brandon Widmar.
