Angelene K. “Angie” Dwyer, 79, of Elkader, was called to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 20, 2005, at her home following a sudden illness. She was one of eleven children born icon to Charles and Marie (Winter) Gonnerman on March 24, 1926, on a farm near Dysart, IA. She graduated from Dysart High School in 1944. She attended Pitzes Beauty School in Waterloo, and then worked as a beautician in Traer, IA. She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Dwyer on September 1, 1948. A daughter was born icon to this union. They lived in Cedar Rapids, where Angie worked for a couple interior decorators for many years. In 1977, they moved to Elkader, where she worked at Mitchell’s Greenhouse for a few years. She then started baking pies for the Pastime Café, and soon friends and neighbors wanted her to bake for them, which she dearly loved. She also baked for church occasions, and holidays were always busy for her. Angie was a long time member at the Wellness Center. She loved her exercise class. She volunteered for the Head Start Program from 1985 to 1990. She loved Country Western music, walking, puzzle books and helping friends. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Guild. She stayed active until 2000, when health problems prevented her to continue. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Dwyer of Elkader; three sisters; five brothers; many nieces and nephews. Angie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters; a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law.

Hilda Freda Leona Moser, 90, of Elkader died as the result of an automobile accident Tuesday December 20, 2005. She was born icon March 25, 1915, in Elkader to August and Lovelva (Wilke) Storbeck. She was a lifetime member of Peace United Church of Christ and belonged to the Women's Fellowship. Hilda attended country school, graduating from Elkader High School after which she received her teaching certificate from Upper Iowa College, Fayette. She taught country school at several locations until she married. She was united in marriage to Clifton Moser on September 11, 1946 and they had one son. Hilda was devoted to her home and family. Her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a wonderful cook and her homemade pies were a family favorite. She loved flowers and had a gifted green thumb. She enjoyed gardening and working with her chickens. Hilda had helped with the calf chores on the farm until they moved into Elkader in 1993. Survivors include her husband, Clifton, Elkader; son, Carlys (Laura) Moser, Elkader; grandchildren, David (Michelle) Moser, Elkader, Dalen (Candace) Moser, Farmersburg, Laura Lynne Moser (fiancé Jessie Goldsmith), Dubuque, Carol Ann Moser, West Des Moines; great-grandchildren Austin and Trevor Moser, and Skylar and Sydney Moser. Hilda also had many devoted and loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister; Irene Klink; and brother, Raymond Storbeck.

Kevin Ashline, 52, of Littleport, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer on Saturday, December 17, 2005, in his home with family by his side. He was born icon January 25, 1953 in Edgewood to Milton and Evelyn (Ihde) Ashline. He was united in marriage to Jessica Williams on February 6, 1971, and later two children blessed them. Kevin owned a carpentry business in Littleport for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting, and always had a love for animals. His pride and joy were his grandchildren. Every time they were around they put a smile on his face and lit up his eyes. Kevin served his community as a Littleport fireman for thirty-four years. Survivors include his wife, Jessica Ashline, Littleport; his children, Cory (Sara) Ashline, Elkport, Karrie (Randy) Knipper, Edgewood; step-son, Kyle (Christina) Williams, Independence; grandchildren, Paige, Riley and Mason Ashline and Quinton Knipper; a step-grandson, Wyatt Williams; his father, Milton Ashline and step-mother, Evalyn, Waterloo; brothers, Keith (Sandy) Ashline, Littleport, Eric (Shelly) Ashline, Black Creek, WI and Kent (Karla) Ashline, Guttenberg; a sister, Ranee (Dion) Galleger, Fairbank and his father-in-law, John Williams (special friend Doris Stelken), Starwberry Point. Kevin was preceded in death by his mother; his mother-in-law, Josephine Williams and son-in-law, Brett Bolinger.

Everett Leon Huff, 80, Monona, Iowa, died Saturday, December 17, 2005, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, WI, following a long illness. Everett was born icon on February 3, 1925 to Fred and Mary (Schlitter) Huff. He graduated from Marquette High School. Everett served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Seitz on June 30, 1947. Six children were born icon to this union. Everett was a tree surgeon for many years. He loved hunting, fishing, arrow head hunting, flowers, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his children, Dyane (Harry) Schutte, Monona, Melody (Brad) Kishman, Farmersburg, Fred (Cheri) Huff, Farmersburg, Wendy (Harry) Luster, Monona, Courtney Huff, Prairie du Chien, WI; sixteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Everett was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy on May 5, 2000; one daughter, Susan Luster; three sisters, Alberta Cahoon, Dorothy Ricker, Hazel Wilkins and one brother, Floyd Huff.

Burma Lorraine Cook
February 19, 1922 - December 17, 2005
Elkader, IA

Burma Lorraine Cook, 83, was born icon to Alfred and Irene (Jensen) Cook on February 19, 1922, in Highland Township, rural Elkader. She was baptized at Highland Lutheran Church, attended rural school, graduating from Elgin High School in 1939. She attended Junior College at Elkader and Upper Iowa College, Fayette, where she received a teaching certificate. She then pursued her life long career as a teacher. She was married in 1944 to Howard McDowell and they farmed in Boardman Township. They were later divorced. Burma retired to Mederville and later Elkader. In October 2002, she suffered a stroke and was a resident of the Elkader Nursing home and later Postville Good Samaritan Center, where she died Saturday, December 18, 2005. Burma is survived by her brother, Merton Cook, Elkader; sister, Judith Siebrecht, Clermont; four nieces and nephews; numerous relatives and friends; and long time dancing friend, Bill Crane. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ve Wille in 1994. Private family services will be held at a later date. Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader is handling the arrangements. The family has requested memorials be directed to the Good Samaritan Center, Alzheimer’s Unit, Postville, IA.

Bonnie Patricia Kruse, 76, Monona, Iowa, died Thursday, December 15, 2005, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, WI, following a sudden illness. Bonnie was born icon on March 5, 1929, in Waverly, Iowa, to Martin and Lola Belle (Gaines) O'Dea. She attended Monona High School in Monona, Iowa, through the eleventh grade. Bonnie was united in marriage to Milton Kruse on October 10, 1946 in Waterloo, Iowa. Four children were born icon to this union. Bonnie was a waitress at the Grand Cafe in Monona for many years. She loved cooking, baking, sewing and spending time with her family. Bonnie was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Monona. Survivors include three children, Patricia (Curt) Miller, White City, OR, Janita (Gregory) Conner, Cedar Rapids, Timothy (Becky) Kruse, Monona; three grandchildren, Tina (James) Rahenkamp, Las Vegas, NV, Aaron Conner, Los Angeles, CA, Danyelle Kruse, Monona; two great-grandchildren, Garrett and Kyle Rahenkamp and two sisters, Joyce and Betty. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milton in 1987; one son, James Kruse and many brothers and sisters.

Marilynn Annette Sherman was born icon September 6, 1922, to Bryan George and Grace Blanche (Welterlen) Sherman at her parents’ farm northeast of Edgewood. She was raised and educated in Edgewood, graduating from Edgewood High School in 1940. She attended the University of Dubuque for one year and did nurses training in Chicago. Marilynn was united in marriage to Charles Marvin Clark on November 20, 1943. Five children were born icon to this union. They were later divorced. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the Edgewood Convalescent Home for thirty years. Marilynn enjoyed working with flowers, gardening, making cookies, dishrags, mittens, booties, and afghans for her grandchildren. Marilynn died on Wednesday, December 7, 2005, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester from complications COPD/pneumonia. She was eighty-three years of age. Survivors include her five children, Barbara Lynn Sieglaff and Carl Rooks of Kansas City, Kansas, Doris Jeanne Marsh of Manchester, Frederick Charles Clark and his wife Mary of Denmark, Wisconsin, Gregory Bryan Clark and his wife Rosie of Owenshore, Kentucky, and Mary Elizabeth Olson and her husband, Bill of Manchester; fifteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Marilynn was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Kenneth Sherman; one child and one grandchild in infancy.

Clarence Ephriam "Bub" Miller, 81, of Donna, TX, formerly of Elgin, died Monday, December 5, 2005, in Las Palmas Health Care Center, McAllen, TX, following a short illness. He was born icon June 14, 1924, in Maiden Rock, WI, to Harry and Della (Mathys) Miller. Bub was baptized at the Elgin Baptist Church, Elgin. He attended country schools in Fayette County. He was united in marriage to Janice Wilson in 1972 in Cedar Rapids. Bub worked in meat packing for Farmstead Food for over twenty years. He enjoyed his family, camping and going to auctions. Survivors include his wife, Janice, two children from a previous marriage, Alton (Susan) Miller, Hampton, Il and Charlene Barfels, Winthrop; five grandchildren and three sisters, Margaret Gage, Fayette, Violet Hangartner, Postville and Doris Hangartner, Cedar Rapids. Bub was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Clifton Miller and sisters, Gertrude Hatcher, Gladys Kohls, Cora LaVon Miller in infancy, Shirley Twite and June Andersonand one great-granddaughter, Mercedes Mashek.

Stanley E. McDowell

Stanley was born icon June 27, 1918, at Colesburg, IA, to John and Norma (Barnhart) McDowell. He was raised and educated in the area attending school locally. He remained in the area and farmed. Stanley was united in marriage to Mary Leonard on December 28, 1943, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elkader. Four children were born icon to this union. Together they farmed northeast of Colesburg on Skip Level Road over the years. In December of 1984, they retired and moved into Colesburg. Stanley died suddenly on Wednesday, November 30, 2005, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader. He was eighty-seven years of age. Stanley was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and of the Northeast Iowa Antique Association. He will be remembered as one who enjoyed playing cards, gardening, picking raspberries and cooking, especially for his peanut butter cookies. Survivors include four children, Fran (Ken) DeMarce, Cedar Rapids, Bruce (Linda) McDowell, Oskaloosa, Robert (Vicky) McDowell, Edgewood and Anita (Ralph) Kratochvil, Eau Claire, WI; nine grandchildren, David Hamer, Dennis (Melissa) Hamer, Cheree Wheeler, Shannon (Michael) McCabe, Brad (Angie) McDowell, Tyler McDowell, Tony McDowell, Ralph Kratochvil II, Noah Kratochvil; four great-grandchildren, Clayton Wheeler, Aaron McDowell, Blake McDowell and Kionna McCabe. Stanley was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, on August 9, 1994; his parents; two brothers and three sisters.
