Herman Henry Schlee Jr., 75, formerly of Elkport, died November 6, 2005, at the Guttenberg Care Center, Guttenberg following a brief illness. He was born icon April 4, 1930, in rural Edgewood to Herman and Amelia (Eberhardt) Schlee. He worked in the creamery in Garber, the trailer factory in Guttenberg, and as a farm hand. Herman was a fun loving person who enjoyed music, singing, dancing and playing the accordion and drums. He kept his nieces and nephews laughing by kidding and teasing them. He also enjoyed playing cads and pool; in fact, he received lots of trophies for his pool playing abilities. Survivors include his two sisters, Edna Willie, Garber, Evelyn (Jim) Neel, Hawaii; two brothers, Arthur (Barbara) Schlee, Apache Junction, AZ, LeRoy (Violet) Schlee, Decorah; nieces, nephews and friends. Herman was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walter, Henry and Freddie and a sister, Carrie Amling Bissel. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Oliver F. Jewell, 93, of Edgewood, died Friday, November 4, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a stroke. Oliver was born icon September 21, 1912, in Strawberry Point, to Walter and Elizabeth (Hoyer) Jewell. He owned and operated a logging business in Minnesota and then moved back to the Edgewood area where he farmed. He married Anita Scheer on December 2, 1933. He was the Director of Country Schools and returned to logging in his later years working for Kendrick Forest Products. He maintained a large garden and enjoyed seeing things grow and thrive. Spending time with his family, playing cards, hunting and fishing were all his favorite pastimes. Oliver was a pillar of strength and inspiration to many who knew him and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of seventy-two years, Anita; a son, Gene and wife Judy of Placerville, CA; a daughter Karen and husband Gary Farmer of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Esther Georing of Waterloo and Mildred Sterling of Guttenberg; six grandchildren; Becky Steller of California, Cindy Valentin of South Carolina, Stephanie Jewell of California, Eugene Jewell of Illinois, Wade Farmer of Wisconsin and Amber Welch of Iowa; ten great-grandchildren which he treasured, Courtney, Scott and Todd Steller, John-Oliver and Christopher Valentin, Tim, Jordan and Mackenzie Farmer, Ethan and Lydia Welch and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Tony Jewell. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at St. Lukes and hospice and Pastor Kathy and Randy of Gloria Dei Lutheran for all their support and prayers. A special thank you to his friends in Edgewood who made his golden years so enjoyable. Memorial gifts in his name may be contributed to Ed-CO School FFA Chapter or Hope Lutheran Church, Littleport, IA.

Gloria J. Harris, 69, of Elkader, died Thursday morning, November 3, 2005, at the Elkader Care Center, following a long illness. She was born icon April 7, 1936, in Littleport to Clarence and Frances (Sylvester) Nading. She graduated with honors from Elkader High School in 1954. She was united in marriage to Glen Harris on December 26, 1954 at Strawberry Point. Gloria was a devoted Air Force wife, following her husband to his many different postings. She was a wonderful, loving mom who enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. Gloria was a faithful member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkader, serving on the Church Council for a number of years. Survivors include four daughters, Michele DeSutter (Terry LeClere) of Palo, Glenda (Mike) Mueller of Sparks, NV, Vicki Harris and Sarah (Skip) Quest all of Elkader; a son, Steven (Shelley) Harris of Rockford, IL; a daughter-in-law, Pat Harris (Brent) of Rockford, IL; two brothers, Russell (Ruth) Nading and Calvin (Helen) Nading all of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Jean Parker of Garnavillo and Lois Knight of Rockford, IL; two sisters-in-law, Loretta Nading of Cedar Rapids and Helen Nading of Volga; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Brent Harris; brothers, Robert, Gilbert and Clarence Nading Jr. and a sister, Margaret Harbaugh.

Dorothy Louise Gage, 82, of Guttenberg, formerly of Elkader, died Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born icon March 18, 1923, in Colesburg, IA to William and Elizabeth (Torry) Schrunk. She is survived by her husband of forty years, Duane Gage of Guttenberg; a daughter, Sheila Ihde of Elkader; a son, Rodney (Camy) Rodenberg of Normagee, TX; a step-daughter, Ginger (Robert) Kruse of Elkport; two sisters, Hattie Appleton and Louise Ludovissy both of Guttenberg; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John “Jack” Rodenberg and a sister, Berdina Smith.

Robert Dwayne Larson, 65, of Elgin, died Monday, October 31, 2005, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, IA following a brief illness. He was born icon on November 28, 1939, in West Union to Burnell and Margaret (Kleppe) Larson. Bob attended school in Clermont and graduated from West Union High School. Bob served his country for four years, serving in the U.S. Navy. He worked for Pacific Gas and Electric in California for twenty eight years, took early retirement and moved back to Iowa. Bob was united in marriage to Jean Neumann on September 6, 1981. Bob loved to fish and play golf. He played in golf tournaments in California. He enjoyed having his step-granddaughter, Amanda Neumann spend time with him in California and her baby daughter, GraceLyn was the joy of his life. Survivors include his wife Jean Larson, Elgin; one step-son, David (Deb) Neumann, Fayette; step-grand-children and step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Wayne (Darlene) Larson, Cedar Rapids, Donald (Judy) Larson, Knoxville, TN and Marvin (Judy) Larson West Union; one sister Marcia (Greg) Kilcher; Waucoma and many nieces and nephews.

Charlotte Hannah Wilkins Brown Wagner, 97, Luana, died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Silver Pines Care Center, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. She was born icon March 10, 1909, the daughter of Thomas (Ted) and Laura Kaiser Wilkins on a farm in Allamakee County. She was educated in a country school near her home. She worked many years as a hired girl. One of the places was the Dave Kammerer farm when Justus was four years old. She married Roy Brown in 1927, and they had three daughters, Betty, June and Rose. Charlotte lived in Luana from 1930 to 1997. Her home was the telephone office in Luana for twenty five years/twenty four hours a day. She ran the switchboard with the help of her husband Roy and their daughters as they grew up. She also worked part-time at the Postville telephone office and for the Luana Commission Company for a time. In 1962, she married Louis Wagner and gained four daughters, Doris, Donnafred, Darlene and Dorothy. She was custodian of the Luana Savings Bank many years, belonged to the Community Club and helped with the lunch stand for ballgames, was captain of the cancer drive many years in Luana, belonged to the Garden City Methodist Church in Monona, and enjoyed quilting and gardening. Charlotte moved to Cedar Rapids in 1997; following heart surgery. She joined Salem United Methodist Church and the Homebuilders. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, aerobics, bible study and other activities at the apartment building where she lived. She also enjoyed visiting with her many relatives and friends. Survivors include three daughters, Betty Dankert, Cedar Rapids, June (Charles) Swallom, Cedar Rapids, and Rose (Jack) Perkins, Camden, AL; two step-daughters, Donnafred Hinman, Des Moines and Dorothy Heins, Monona; two brothers, Wilbur Wilkins, New Albin and Kenneth Wilkins, Wisconsin; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Preceding Charlotte in death were her parents; two husbands; three sisters, Marcella Wilkins, Iowa Schierholz and Violet Adney; four brothers, Ray, Lee, Floyd and Wayne Brown and two step-daughters, Doris Murphy and Darlene Russett.

Gertrude F. Heuchelin, 96, of Edgewood, died June 27, 2006, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home, Edgewood, following a brief illness. She was born icon December 16, 1909, in Dubuque, where she grew up; the daughter of Paul and Jenny (Gordon) Weidmeyer. Gertrude married Albert Heuchelin on July 2, 1931, in Dubuque. They were married sixty-six years. Gertrude was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Edgewood. She was active in church activities and was a devoted homemaker. Surviving are two sons, Wayne E. (Colleen) Heuchelin, of Edgewood and Bruce A. (JoAnn) Heuchelin of Port Byron, IL; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert, who died in 1997, and a sister, Dorothy Perry.

Olive was born icon November 28, 1914, at Swea City, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Hilda (Pearson) Fosgren. She attended school in Swea City and later Triton College in Chicago. On June 15, 1935, she was united in marriage to Anton “Tony” Anderson in Chicago. She was a homemaker and they lived in Chicago until 1973 when they retired in Manchester. Together they owned and operated the Coach Lite Mobile Home Court for many years. Olive was a life-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and First Lutheran Church. Olive passed away at the Good Neighbor Home on Friday, June 23, 2006, following an extended illness. She was ninety-one years of age. She is survived by her husband, Anton of Manchester; a son, George (Janet) Anderson of Rolla, Missouri; a grandson, Eric (Darla) Anderson, and three great-grandsons, Derek, Kurt, and Trevor Anderson all of Waunakee, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Olive was preceded in death by her parents; two grandsons, Mark and Kris Anderson; and a sister, Carol Brandt.

Memorials may be designated to Delaware County Hospice.
