Esther M. Hinrichs, age 78, died Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at her home, following a sudden illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 Friday, February 9, 2007, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Rev. Douglas Morton officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 P.M. Thursday, February 8, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by her children, Oswald Hinrichs and wife Lois of Cedar Rapids, Vance Hinrichs and wife Debra of Marengo, Gwendolyn Hinrichs Hohle and husband Philip of St. Louis, MO and Rodney Hinrichs and wife Marsha of Middle Amana; nine grandchildren, Joezette Hester (Cleo), Dathan Hinrichs (Patricia), Seth Hinrichs, Sarah Hinrichs, Tracee Hinrichs, Jodi Carlson (Casey), Aaron Hohle, Lauren Hohle and Austin Hinrichs; and a brother Henry Solbrig of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gordon in 1981, and three brothers, Arnold, Oswald and Otto Solbrig.
Esther Minnie Solbrig was born November 15, 1928 in Amana Iowa the daughter of William and Louise Rothenbuecher Solbrig. She received her education in the Amana schools and graduated from Amana High School in 1947. She attended beauty school in Des Moines. Esther married Gordon Christian Hinrichs on November 17, 1948 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo. The couple lived in Amana. Besides being a mother and homemaker, Esther was a beautician, bookkeeper for Gordon C. Hinrichs Construction and was a sales person at the Kitchen Sink in Amana.
Esther was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo and the Ladies Aid. She was a past member of the Altar Guild, taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and sang in the church choir. She also was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and a Bluebird and Campfire leader. Her family was her primary interest, but she also enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting and reading.

Mearl W. Heitmann, age 91 of Williamsburg, formerly of Victor, died Friday, January 19, 2007 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 22, 2007 at Trinity United Church of Christ, rural Marengo with Rev. Lynne Bisson officiating. Burial will be in Genoa Bluff Cemetery, rural Ladora. Friends may call from 3 to 7 P.M. Sunday, January 21, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the Hospice of Iowa City, the American Cancer Society or the Trinity United Church of Christ Building Fund.
She is survived by two sons, Russell Heitmann (Susan) of Williamsburg and David Heitmann (Karen) of Victor; three daughters, Donna Poncius (Juris) of Tucson, AZ, Kathryn Heitmann of Williamsburg, and Teresa Birdwell (Dennis) of Iowa Falls. In addition she is survived by nine grandchildren, Michael Heitmann (Colleen) of Williamsburg, Nancy Jacoby (Colby) of Williamsburg, Rachel Cunningham (Michael) of LeMars, Sean Heitmann (Megan) of Marshalltown, Damen Heitmann of New Brighton, MN, Karlena Leal (Alfredo) of Tucson, AZ, Alexandra Poncius of Tucson, AZ, Steven Birdwell (Janette) of Altoona, and Gary Birdwell (Katie) of Urbandale; and eleven great-grandchildren, Kristin and Matthew Heitmann, Ethan and Kayte Jacoby, Kathrynn and Karina Cunningham, Abigail, Jackson and Jensen Birdwell, and Emma and Josie Birdwell.
Mearl was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry, a son Kenneth who died in the Vietnam Conflict on March 25, 1970, a brother Harvey, and two sisters, Esther Blomme and Estella Meyer.
Mearl Wilhelmina Van Hamme was born April 22, 1915 in Lincoln Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Theo and Dora Schmidt Van Hamme. She received her education in the Victor schools and graduated from Victor High School in 1932. Mearl married Harry Heitmann on January 8, 1936 in Victor, Iowa. She was a homemaker, wife and mother.
Mearl enjoyed baking, crochet work, music, piano and organ, and writing daily in her diary. She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sunshine Circle.

John “Jack” Martin Keller, age 52, died Thursday evening, January 18, 2007 at his home following an extended illness. Memorial Services: 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Paul Newcomb officiating. There will be no visitation.
He is survived by his wife Sandi, his father, Theofil Keller of Timberlake, S.D.; three sons, Taylen Keller of Marengo, Johnathan Giffin and wife Star and her son Ricki of Marengo, and Stephen Giffin and wife Erin of Marysville, OH; three brothers, Terry of Arizona, and Thomas and Tobias, both of South Dakota; three sisters, Diane Guestchow of Utah, Tina Salwai of Colorado and Brenda Keller of Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his mother.
John Martin Keller was born March 17, 1954 in Mobridge, South Dakota, the son of Theofil and Magdelen Silbernagel Keller. He graduated in 1972 from Timberlake High School, Timberlake, South Dakota. He attended Aberdeen State College in South Dakota for three years. Jack served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Sandi Teigen on November 21, 1983 in South Dakota. The couple have resided in Marengo since 2001.

Bruce D. Kurk, age 52, of South Amana, Iowa, died peacefully Saturday, July 28, 2007, at his home with his family nearby, following a long illness. Private family services will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Jackie Tjarks officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery.
He is survived by a son, Adam Kurk (Casie) of Grinnell, a daughter, Amy Fontinel (Sion) of Victor, grandchildren Caden, Cole, and Eisac, his parents, Herman and Doris Kurk of South Amana, a brother Randy Kurk of Iowa City and a sister Kathy Kurk of South Amana. In addition he is survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Bruce David Kurk was born May 24, 1955 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Herman and Doris Hunzelman Kurk. He attended the Marengo schools and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1973. He had extraordinary talent and love of all things electrical and mechanical from an early age. As an adult he took pride in his work as an electrical engineer at Montezuma Manufacturing, Rhinehart Manufacturing, German Machine Works, Street Rod Productions and Victor Manufacturing. He continued to work in his shop at home on his projects during his last two years. Bruce also loved music and played in the band “Foolish Pleasure” in the late 1980’s.
He was a good father, grandfather, husband, son and brother. He took pride in his tough muscular build, but was known as a really good guy who would help anyone. He will be missed terribly by his family who all know that he has gone to be with the Lord, but nonetheless will always wish they had just one more day with him. God rest his soul.

Jamie R. Robinson, age 34 of Monet, MO, formerly of the Marengo area, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at St. John’s Health Center in Springfield. Graveside Services: 3:00 P.M. Friday, July 27, 2007, at the Marengo Cemetery in Marengo, Iowa. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of local arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Lora; his father Ron Robinson (Carolyn) of Tonganoxie, KS; his mother JoAnn Fobert Robinson of Lewisburg, KS; a stepson, Nathan Bunch of Aurora, MO, two stepdaughters, Regina Lydick of Illinois, and Jolita Bunch of Aurora; a stepbrother, Kary McCleandon of Tonganoxie, three sisters, Rachelle Cole of Holt, MO, Sarisa Grindstaff of Tonganoxie and Sarah Strohl of Lewisburg, KS; and a step granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a brother Robbie Ray Robinson.
Jamie R. Robinson, was born June 3, 2007 in Atlantic, Iowa. He attended school in the Marengo area. He married Lora Tolbert on June 14, 1996 in Springfield, MO. Jamie worked in the shipping department of Hydro Aluminum in Monet, MO.

Arthur H. “Art” Stanerson, age 90, formerly of Conroy, died Sunday morning, July 22, 2007 at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 25, 2007, First Lutheran Church, rural Conroy, with Rev. Jackie Tjarks officiating. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Church Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo where there will be a Masonic Service at 7 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to the Conroy Park (C.C.R.), or First Lutheran Church, Conroy.
He is survived by a brother Walter Stanerson of Williamsburg, a sister Ethel Hartz of Marengo, a sister-in-law, Ethel Stanerson of Williamsburg and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ed Stanerson, a sister Helen Overbaugh and brother-in-laws Don Overbaugh and Maurice Hartz, Sr. and a sister-in-law, Mae Stanerson.
Arthur Halvor Stanerson was born March 1, 1917 in rural Conroy, Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Staner and Helen Mae Groesbeck Stanerson. He attended Hilton Consolidated School in Conroy. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed at Camp Callan in San Diego, CA. Art attended diesel engine school and entered into partnership with his brothers Walt and Ed at Stanerson Garage and Oil Company in Conroy. He drove school bus for nine years. He later operated the fuel and gas truck for Conroy Co-op until his retirement in 1976. Due to failing health, Arthur moved to Rose Haven Nursing Home in 2003.
Art enjoyed playing golf and the coffee times at Stanerson Implement, in Conroy. He had a lifelong love of motorcycles. He liked to spend time at his boathouse in Cedar Rapids, and enjoyed snowmobiling in the winter.
Art was a member of First Lutheran Church, rural Conroy, the Stellapolis Lodge #391 of Williamsburg, and the Marengo American Legion Post #76.

Martina “Tina” Milder, age 53, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at her home following a four month battle with Glimoblastoma multiform brain cancer. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 21, 2007, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Drew Disterhoft officiating. Private family inurnment services will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Iowa City at a later date. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday, July 20, 2007 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Joseph Milder; three daughters, Melanie Ahrens (Chris) of Parnell, Jolene Slaymaker (Shawn) of Williamsburg and Cassandra Milder of Williamsburg; two sons, Jacob Milder and Philip Milder of Williamsburg; six grandchildren, Erikah Milder, Zackery Milder, Kristopher Brummond, Samantha Slaymaker, Caitlynn Slaymaker, and Shawn “Alex” Slaymaker and three step-grandchildren, Rachel Ahrens, Zachary Ahrens and Lucas Ahrens. In addition she is survived by her mother, Catarina Delgado of Grand Forks, ND and her siblings, Antonia Larson (Terry), Alfredo Martinez and Silvia Espinoza all of Grand Forks, and Esperanza “Bumbee” Grazier (Clark) of Fort Worth, TX. She was preceded in death by her father, Sotoro G. Martinez, her step-father, Solomon Delgado and a nephew Jeremy Larson.
Martina "Tina" was born October 1, 1953 in Fort Hancock, TX, the daughter of Sotero and Catarina Sanchez Martinez. Her family moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota where Tina received her education in the North Dakota schools. She worked at the Officers Club where she met Joseph Milder and the couple married on July 9, 1970 in Sisseton, South Dakota. They moved to Florida and their first daughter, Melanie was born on November 19, 1971. Joe was stationed in Alaska at Elmendorf Air Force Base, where Martina worked at the NCO Club for four years as a cook. Daughter Jolene was born on July 1, 1974. In 1976 they returned to Grand Forks where Tina was employed at a bowling alley and golf club as a short order cook. In 1979 the family moved to West Branch, Iowa where Tina worked at Oral B in Iowa City for 10 years. During this time she attended Kirkwood Community College where she received an associate degree. Their son, Jacob was born January 11, 1981. They moved to Parnell where they resided for over 25 years. Cassandra was born March 25, 1983. Tina then was employed by McDonald's, where she helped open and manage the store for the next year. Later she worked at ReXam Release as a press operator for ten years. During this time Philip was born December 12, 1985. In 1999, the family relocated one last time to Williamsburg where she was employed by Williamsburg Manufacturing as a welder where she remained until the time of her passing. Tina enjoyed collecting snowmen and spending time at her summer home in Lansing, Iowa. Most of all, she enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. She was a pillar of strength and wisdom and will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Sue Ann Lewis, age 63 of Marengo, died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at her home from an apparent heart attack. Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 30, 2008, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Katie Dawson officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. Friends may call after 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by her husband Dale; two daughters, Tammy LeMaster of Downing, IA and Cindy Brockmeyer (Dick) of Clarence, IA; two sons, Timothy Lewis (Tammy) of Brooklyn and Casey Lewis of Marengo; six grandchildren; a sister, Kathleen Lewis of Cedar Rapids and two brothers, Claude Franks of Tucson, AZ and Henry Franks of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Ralph Franks, Jr. and Jergen Ratashak, fiancé of Tammy LeMaster.
Sue Ann Franks was born April 23, 1944 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the daughter of Ralph and Viola Woods Franks. She received her education in the Cedar Rapids schools and married Dale Lewis on July 17, 1961 in Cedar Rapids. She was a homemaker and has been a resident of Marengo for 38 years.
