Friends may call Saturday, February 2 after 9:00 A.M. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be contributed to the First Presbyterian Church, Marengo or the Iowa City Hospice. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
Twila is survived by her husband, Donald M. Coulon, three loving sons, Joe Frederickson (Andrea) of Solon, IA, Ken Frederickson (Evie Clements) of Hills, IA and Scott Frederickson (Hope) of Altoona, IA; two step children, Brad Coulon (Susan) of White Salmon WA and Kristin Rettig (Hunt) of Aspen, CO; grandchildren Blake Frederickson and Kaitlyn Frederickson; six step-grandchildren, Jesse Gingerich, Kyle Gingerich(Tasha), Eva Coulon, Addy Rettig, Juna Rettig, and Samantha Gingerich; and two step-great-grandchildren, Nasya and Niah Leaton. Also surviving are four sisters, Irene Hartgrave of Cedar Rapids, IA, Anna Hartgrave (Robert) of Fairfax, IA, Midge Albert of East Amana, IA and Mary Ruth Brecht (Dwayne) of Marengo, IA. and many very special nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Laurel, Gene, Glen, Russell and Gerald Gerard and a step-daughter, Michelle Coulon.
Twila Belle Gerard was born November 16, 1936 in Genoa Bluffs, south of Ladora, Iowa, the daughter of Laurel Newton and Josephine Tony Kroul Gerard. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1955 and married Gene Frederickson. The couple later divorced. Twila was employed at various banks for 41 years, the most recent being the State Bank of Spirit Lake, Spirit Lake, IA as a vice president. She also managed the bank’s independent insurance agency. She married Donald Coulon on August 16, 1978 and the couple enjoyed 20 wonderful years on Big Spirit Lake entertaining family and friends with fishing and boating along with their devoted little Yorkie dog, Dukie. Twila was active as treasurer in the Sun Rise Kiwanis Club and president of the Blue Water Garden Club. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marengo. Upon retirement, she and Don moved to Iowa City for a short time and then to Middle Amana to be closer to family and friends.

Dwayne M. "Pete" Petrzelka, age 74, died of respiratory failure on Tuesday evening, January 22, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 26, 2008, Prairie View Christian Church, Norway, Iowa with Pastor Bill Wenstrom officiating. Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Marengo with military honors. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday, January 25, 2008 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by a son Bruce and wife Virginia of Norway; four daughters, Denise Ellis and husband Gary of Cedar Rapids, Deb Henderson and husband Lyle of Williamsburg, Tami Wagner and husband Ron of Vinton and Shana Petrzelka and husband Brian Gage of Cedar Rapids; and fourteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Cleo on January 18, 1997, and a sister Evelyn Petrzelka.
Dwayne Max "Pete" Petrzelka was born June 10, 1933 in Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Matt and Elsie Dellamuth Petrzelka. He graduated from Norway High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Pete married Cleo Sherman on July 30, 1954 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Marengo. He was employed as a foreman at Amana Refrigeration for 43 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Marengo American Legion Post #76.
Pete was a true country boy at heart, who loved nothing more than making his daily stops to visit with old friends. He enjoyed music, dancing, and especially listening to the songs of Elvis. Pete was a man of few words, but he was very proud of his family, farm and his kids.

Alex J. Slaymaker, age 19 of Marengo, died Saturday evening, January 19, 2008 in a motor vehicle accident. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 23, 2008, First Presbyterian Church, Marengo with Delbert Rankin officiating. Burial will be in the Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo. Visitation: 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his father, Terry Kriegel (Shari) of Victor; his mother, Denise Slaymaker Roberts (Nick) of Marengo; a brother, Blaise Roberts of Marengo, a sister, Payton Roberts of Marengo; a step-brother, Michael Wiedemeier of Victor and a step-sister, Tara Griffith of Victor; his grandfathers, John Kriegel of Brooklyn, and Melvin Slaymaker of Marshalltown; grandmothers, May Kriegel of Ankeny, and LaRay Hawkins of Marengo; and great-grandparents, Kathleen Kriegel of Brooklyn and Sam (Molly) McNaul of Grinnell. Also surviving are uncles, Dale (Mindi) Slaymaker of Marengo, David (Angie) Slaymaker of Marengo, and Shawn Kriegel of Brooklyn; aunts, Diane “Anni” Maas (Rich) of Marengo and Toni Douglas (Jason) of Brooklyn; and many cousins.
Alex is survived by step-uncles, Greg Babberl (Carrie) of Williamsburg, Garrison Babberl (Jodi) of Cedar Rapids, Steve Griffith of Belle Plaine, step-aunts: Michelle Pederson (Matt) of North Liberty, Bobbi Roberts of Marshalltown, Shawna Smith (Fred) of Newton; step-grandparents, Dave and Mary Roberts of Victor, and Charles and Lynda Griffith of Brooklyn.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Bob Hawkins, his great- grandfather, Gerald Kriegel and his great-grandmother, Ila Bannon.
Alex John Slaymaker was born January 30, 1988 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He received his education in the Marengo schools and graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 2006. He attended Kirkwood Community College and was employed with Richwood Homes, LLC, as a carpenter. Alex enjoyed playing XBox, hanging out with friends and farming with his grandpa. He was a Green Bay Packer fan and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Alex rode motorcycles, went fishing, played basketball, football and golf, enjoyed listening to music and working in the construction trade.

Irene T. Bahr, age 90 of Middle Amana, formerly of Evergreen Estates in Cedar Rapids, died Friday, November 2, 2007 at Colonial Manor of Amana following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 5, 2007, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, IA with Rev. Paul Scheidt officiating. Burial will be in Hala Cemetery, rural Amana. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday, November 4, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by her son Orville Bahr and wife Pat of Swisher; four grandchildren, Ricky Bahr and wife Karen of Cedar Rapids, Randy Bahr and wife Michael, Kevin and friend Sherri, and Vicki Bahr, all of Swisher; five great-grandchildren, Kenneth, Andrew, Christian, Isaac and Gracie Bahr; and four sisters, Mayme Cechura of Cedar Rapids, Agnes Klein of Marion, Alice Barker and husband William of Cedar Rapids, and Ann Binley of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale in 1995, three sisters, Helen Bine, Ruth Kopf, and Blanche Parvin, two brothers, George and Walter Kopf and a step-brother, Fred Puegner.
Irene Tracey Kopf was born July 16, 1917 in Iowa County, Iowa the daughter of William and Anna Heager Kopf. She attended the Iowa County schools and married Dale Bahr on July 20, 1938 in Marengo, Iowa. Irene was a homemaker, and enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.

Marvin D. Bahr, age 80, died Friday, June 29, 2007 at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo, following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Gerald Rife officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call after 9:30 A.M. Tuesday, July 3 until service time at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by neices and nephews, including a nephew Don Hudepohl and wife Sharon of Williamsburg who helped him with his affairs. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rosada “Betty” Bahr on December 26, 2002, 3 brothers, Dale, Lester and Kenneth Bahr and three sisters, Anna Furler, Thelma Sanders, and Blanche Hudepohl.
Marvin Dean Bahr was born March 8, 1927 in Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Fred and Bessie Kahler Bahr. He graduated from Marengo High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Rosada E. “Betty” Foster on June 19, 1947 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He was employed at Ratzel Furniture, Pioneer Seed, was produce manager at the Me Too Grocery in Marengo. Most recently he was employed as a guard at Amana Refrigeration. Marvin moved to Rose Haven Nursing Home in 2003 due to failing health.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marengo, and the Marengo American Legion Post #76.

Brooksie A. Bailey, age 58 of Marengo, died Saturday, May 5, 2007 at her home following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 9, 2007 First United Methodist Church, Marengo with Rev. Eric Nygren officiating. Inurnment will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, May 8, 2006 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by a son, Curtis Bailey (Denise) of Marengo, a grandson, Alex Bailey; three stepsons, Joe Losch (Diane) of Cedar Rapids, John Losch (Donna) of Florida, and Jim Losch (Sharon) of Marion; two step daughters, Jeri Springman (Barry) of Alburnette and Joan Ondler (Corky) of Marion; a grandson, Alex Bailey; 12 step-grandchildren; 12 step-great grandchildren and a brother Jefferson D. Watts of Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Harold Bailey in 2006.
Brooksie Anna Watts was born December 2, 1948 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the daughter of Clyde F. Watts and Vivian L. Johnston Watts. She graduated from Iowa Valley High School and attended Drake University and A.I.B. in Des Moines. Brooksie married Harold Bailey on July 28, 1975 in Cedar Rapids. He died in July 2006. Besides being a homemaker, Brooksie was employed at National Oats for 26 years as a personnel assistant. She owned and operated Videoland in Marengo for ten years before closing it this year.

James T. Ballard, age 83, died Saturday, April 28, 2007 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 3, 2007, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Pastor Mark McDermott officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his daughter, Trudie Stambaugh and husband George of Granbury, TX; two grandchildren, Connie Johnson and husband Jeff of Roanoke, TX and Janelle Stambaugh of Granbury, TX; two great-grandchildren, Logan Charles and Nolan Thomas Johnson; two sisters, Irene Frimml and Helen Plotz, and two brothers, LeRoy and Richard, all of Marengo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Raejean, three brothers, Edmond, Harry and Robert and a sister Estelle Kensler.
James Thomas Ballard was born April 24, 1924 south of Williamsburg and Parnell in Iowa County, Iowa, the son of James and Esther Whitfield Ballard. He attended the Iowa County Lenox #4 school and worked on the family farm. He married Raejean Ridenour on June 20, 1944 in Lancaster, MO. James served in the U.S. Army as a warehouseman in Germany for a year. James returned home and was employed by Amana Refrigeration. He started Ballard Brothers along with his brother Edmond in September 1949. This business later became Ballard Trucking which he operated along with his nephew Dennis until 1985. He also owned and operated lime-hauling trucks, and a corn shelling business. He retired after 20 years of providing for local farmers.
James enjoyed TV westerns, playing cards and riding his bicycle.

Margie D. Ballard, age 80, died of pancreatic cancer, Monday, December 24, 2007 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo, three years and three days following her husband Bob’s death. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M. Thursday, December 27, 2007, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick and St. Paul Cemetery, Watkins. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo where there will be a Scripture Service at 7 P.M. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by three sons, Robert Jr., and Pat of Cedar Rapids, Dennis and wife Shirley of Amana, and Bruce and wife Cindy of Marengo; seven grandchildren, Terri Ballard, Kelly Sander, Stacy Swanson, Jay Irving, Denny Ballard, Laura Ballard, and Brent Bral; 10 great grandchildren: Blake, Austyn, Jaxon, Alex, Brynn, Nolan, Brayden, Easton, Shaylynn and Colton. In addition she is survived by five brothers, Wayne Grimm of Central City, Lloyd “Dick”, Bennie, Ronald and Delbert Grimm all of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Beverly Ballard also of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Ballard on December 21, 2004; a daughter, Barbara Ann in 1964 and two brothers, Ernest “Jack” and Glenn Grimm.
Margie Darlene Grimm was born May 25, 1927 in Keystone, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Edith Guingrich Grimm. She attended Big Grove Township school in Van Horne and married Robert Eugene Ballard on January 17, 1944 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo. The couple resided in Iowa County. Margie was a housewife and also worked in the Amana area for 30 years. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Busy Bee Club.
The Ballard family wishes to extend their thanks to Rose Haven Nursing Home and Amenity Hospice for the care that they provided to our mother.
