Robert A. “Bob” Walter, age 76 of Williamsburg, died Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 17, 2011, Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg with Rev. Richard A. Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation: 3 to 7 P.M. Monday, May 16, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Memorials may be contributed to Hospice or the charity of the donor’s choice. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
Robert is survived by his daughter Cindy Faas of Des Moines; his son Terry and wife Sara of Palo; four grandchildren, Afton Ridenour (Nathan) of North English, Whit Faas of North English, Jordan Walter of Cedar Rapids and SPC Codi Walter of Cedar Rapids; and twin great-grandchildren, Connor and Bridgette Ridenour. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Darlene Wiebold Walter in 2009.
Robert Arthur Walter was born April 2, 1935 in York Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Arthur H. and Alma Wille Walter. He attended the Immanuel Lutheran School. Bob married Darlene Wiebold on June 10, 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg. The couple farmed in Iowa County for many years. They moved to Williamsburg in 1992. Bob also drove school bus and worked at the Fast Stop in Williamsburg. He enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the Williamsburg Saddle Club..

Helen Marie Wilson, age 90 of Brooklyn, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn, IA. Visitation: 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. Saturday, April 2, 2011 with the funeral services at 2:30 P.M. at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Dennis Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be contributed to the Madison Church of Christ, rural Brooklyn.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth Wilson of Marshalltown, Barbara Wilson of Brooklyn and Steven Wilson (Barbara) of Port Royal, PA; three grandchildren, Kurt Wilson (Michelle) of Lima, OH, Kara Koester (Jason) of Grinnell, and David Wilson of Elizabethtown, PA; four great-grandchildren, Peyton, Keegan and Kenley Wilson and Jase Koester. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1954, an infant daughter Beverly Ann, three brothers, Eldon, William and Marion Miller, and four sisters, Esther Miller, Irma Talbott, Janet Miller and Jean Heathman.
Helen Marie Miller was born April 29, 1920 in Bear Creek Township, Poweshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse and Alice Hall Miller. She attended the Sigafoose Country School and received her diploma and normal training certificate from Brooklyn High School in 1937. She married Charles Wilson on February 15, 1941 at the Madison Church Parsonage. Helen enjoyed cooking, outdoor activities and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed Hawkeye football and basketball and would listen daily to WHO Radio.

Earl W. “Bill” Allen, age 89 of Brooklyn, died Monday, October 17, 2011 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn with Pastor John Dodds officiating. Burial will be at Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.
Bill is survived by his wife Norma Dayton Allen, brothers-in-law Larry Dayton (Anna Grace) of Brooklyn, and Robert Little of Albia; nieces and nephews, Becky (Richard) Hammer of Newton, Brenda (Dave) Jermier of Dallas Center, Keith (Kathy) Little of Albia, Steve (LaVerne) Dayton of Arroyo Grande, CA, Robin (Ron) Miller of Mason City, Gaylon (Janet) Dayton of Clive, Carol (Pat) Croke of Forrest Grove, OR, Eva Heller of Denver, Richard (Leila) Allen of Staples, MN, Helen (John) Riggs of Staples, MN, Charlotte (Ward) Barton of Eagle Bend, MN and Elsie (William) Riggs of Coon Rapids, MN, and many many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Evan Elliot Allen.
Earl William Allen was born December 13, 1921 in rural Montezuma, Iowa, the son of William Henry Allen and Elsie Evans Allen. He attended the Poweshiek County schools and Brooklyn High School. Bill served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 -1945. He and Norma Eloida Dayton were united in marriage on December 12, 1944 in Brooklyn, Iowa. The couple farmed for many years between Montezuma and Deep River. He was well known in the dairy industry. They moved to Brooklyn in 2008. Bill was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, the Knights of Pythias, DAV, the Farm Bureau, and the Linger Longer Club.
Bill enjoyed building model airplanes, latch hooking, reading, string art and puzzles. He was extremely fond of Norma’s apple pie, bacon and ice cream.

Lawrence P. Kriegel, age 81 of Brooklyn, died Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Mayflower Home in Grinnell. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 19, 2011, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn with Fr. Brian Shepley officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 7:30 P.M. Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn with a Rosary recited at 7:30. A memorial fund has been established.
Lawrence is survived by six children, and 21 grandchildren; Phyllis McGowan (Myron) of Vinton and her children Jason Forgy(Christa), Aaron Forgy, and Lucas Forgy of Denver, CO; Eugene Kriegel (Chris) of Brooklyn and their children Amy Smith (John) of Marengo, Ryan Kriegel (Cari) of Marengo, and Angela Grimm (Chad) of Roosevelt, Utah; Susan Everett (John) of Atkins and their children Jacob and Nathen; Phillip Kriegel (Teresa) and their children Amber Coleman (Pat), Ashley Krebill (Adam), and Steven Kriegel all of Brooklyn; Joe Kriegel (Kim) of Brooklyn and their children Caleb, Colby, and Lacey; and Diana Swartz (Ken) of Bettendorf and their children Kalen, Kalvin, Micah, Isaiah, Josiah, Kaylee, and Anna; and 11 great-grandchildren, Zach, Ben, Samantha, Jayden, Jaxson, Mishayla, Alexa, Dominic, Aliana, Averee, and Aidan. Also surviving are two brothers, Glen Joe (Linda) and Kenneth of Brooklyn and a sister Mary Jane Rich of Nashville, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Cora in 2009, ten brothers, Lloyd, Richard, Bill, Melvin, Gerald, Wayne, Louis, Lyle, Elmer, and James, and three sisters, Stella Henle, Marge Henle, and Gladys Healey.
Lawrence Paul Kriegel was born September 1, 1930 in rural Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of John and Mary Roth Kriegel. He attended the Poweshiek County schools and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He married Cora Raley on October 31, 1951 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn. Lawrence owned and operated the Brooklyn lumber yard for many years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards and playing his harmonica. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family.

Wallace James Roth, age 83 of Hartwick, Iowa, died Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Brooklyn Community Estate. Mass of Christian Burial: 5:00 P.M. Sunday, October 16, 2011, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn with Fr. Brian Shepley officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 P.M. Sunday at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at 8:00 A.M. Monday, October 17, 2011. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is in charge of arrangements.
Wally is survived by his wife Betty; a daughter Nancy DeBrower (Dean); two sons Jim (Jeanne) and Tim (Marilyn); grandchildren Shallee Williams (Howard), Shalen DeBrower (Nikki), Shane DeBrower (Libby), Claire Fazio (Ron), David Roth, Emily Roth, Barbara Roth (Scott Beck), Kent Roth, Faith Chandler (Jessie); and ten great grandchildren.
Also surviving are sisters Kay Ostrom, Vivian Himschoot, Maxine Roberts (Cecil), Elmira Bevins (Kenny), and Shirley Bloome; a brother Kenneth Roth (Donna); a brother-in-law, Lou Bees and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Edward.
Wallace James Roth was born February 15, 1928 in rural Hartwick, Iowa, the son of Fritz and Gertrude Dee Roth. He graduated from Hartwick High School with the class of 1946. He farmed in the Hartwick area for his entire life. Wally married Betty Bees on November 22, 1948 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn. He was a member of the Hartwick Fire Department for 55 years and also was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brooklyn.

Charles B. “Barney” Fetzer, age 88, of Williamsburg, died Thursday, October 6, 2011 at English Valley Care Center, North English, IA from complications of cancer. Graveside Services: 1:30 P.M. Thursday, October 13, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Victor, with Pastor Carl Cloeter officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Charles Burton Fetzer was born January 23, 1923, in rural Williamsburg, IA, to Walter Jonathan and Elsie Marie (Gerard) Fetzer. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1941 and ran on the first Williamsburg State Championship Cross-Country team in 1939. He married Helen Leona Meyer on April 16, 1944 in Williamsburg. He operated the Standard Oil gas station on the Williamsburg square (where Pizza Haus is now located) 1946-1964 and then moved out to the Standard Oil station, I-80 & Amana Exit. That station became Amoco Oil and later BP and is presently operated by his two sons. He also co-owned the Colony Haus Restaurant (now Ox-Yoke Interstate) and the motel at the same exit on I-80. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg, served with the Williamsburg Fire Department for which he was Fire Chief eight years, and was employed for many years as a substitute rural mail carrier. He enjoyed being with family, hunting, fishing, crafts, bowling, gardening, landscaping and visits to the casino. Following his retirement, the couple resided in Guttenberg, IA and Sun City, AZ.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, of 67 years; two sons: William Fetzer and wife Pamela, Donald Fetzer and wife Rosemary all of Williamsburg; daughter Nancy Pettibone and husband Tim of Pleasant Grove, UT; seven grandchildren Blair (Andrea), Ross, Olivia Hocker (Adam), Nicholas, Aaron Johnson (Amy), Tera Holmes (Steven), and Megan Johnson; seven great-grandchildren Brennan and Luke Fetzer, Halle and Kiah Johnson, Alec Johnson, Grant and Ava Hocker; four brothers Lester (Jean), James (Shirley Jean), Ray, and Howard (Ann); three sisters Shirley Alberhasky (James), Marlene Seydel (Robert), and Mary Jane Schenkel (Robert); two sisters-in-law, Tillie Fetzer and Ilene Meyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lloyd, and two sisters Margaret Yoder and Rita and son-in-law Sandy Johnson.

Donald Michael Coulon, age 73, died August 17th, 2011 in Hood River, Oregon after suffering from dementia for several years. A memorial for Don will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 14, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church in Marengo, Iowa, with the Reverend Gerald Rife officiating. Inurnment will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting with arrangements.
Don was born June 9, 1938 in Adrian, Michigan, the son of George and Peggy (Zemlo) Coulon. An outstanding athlete, Don graduated from high school in 1957 and started college at the University of Wyoming on a football scholarship. After a transfer to the University of Northern Colorado, he graduated in 1962 with a degree in Physical Education. He later earned his Master's degree in Special Education from Northeast Missouri State University.
Don’s first teaching and coaching position moved his new wife, Peggy Ryan, daughter, Dawn Michelle and him to Winfield, Iowa. In 1969, they, plus daughter, Kristin and son, Bradley, moved to Marengo, Iowa where he was named the football and wrestling coach and taught Special Education. He was asked to take over the coaching and teaching duties in Algona, Iowa in 1976 where he delivered a winning record. Don and Peggy divorced in 1978. After marrying Twila Fredrickson, Don took a teaching and coaching position at Spirit Lake High School in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Don and Twila lived on Big Spirit Lake for 20 years where he coached, taught and caught his fair share of fish! He retired in 2003 and moved back to the Marengo area to be near family and friends. His last active years were spent fishing, golfing and hanging out with the guys at the donut shop. He will always be remembered for his fun coaching style, his out going personality, his kind demeanor and optimism.
Don is survived by his children, Kris Coulon Rettig (Hunt) and grandchildren Addy and Juna of Aspen, CO, Brad Coulon (Susan) and granddaughter Eva of White Salmon, WA; 
Step-children, Joe Fredrickson (Andrea) of Solon, IA and step-grandson Blake, Ken Fredrickson of Iowa City, IA, Scott Fredrickson (Hope) of Altoona, IA and step-granddaughter Caitlyn. Don was preceded in death by his wife Twila (Gerard) Coulon, brother Dick Coulon and daughter Michelle Coulon. 

A gathering of family, friends and athletes Don coached will be held from 4:30 - 6:30 at the Marengo American Legion Hall before the football game on Friday, October 14th. Elmer R. Anderson, age 56 of Brooklyn, died Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Memorial Services: 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 7, 2011, First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn with Rev. John Reynolds, Jr. officiating. Inurnment will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday, October 6, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn. Memorials may be contributed to the ALS Association of Iowa. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is assisting with arrangements.
He is survived by his wife Joyce: his three children Heather Kohnen (Terrence) of Tiffin, Jessica Harken (Ivan) of Grinnell and Kaleb Anderson of Brooklyn; three grandchildren Hayden and Ethan Kohnen and Avery Marie Harken; his mother Betty Marie Hanus Anderson of Toledo, Iowa; two brothers, Andy Anderson (Pam) of Watauga, TX, Chris Anderson (Karen) of Dallas, Iowa; and a sister Lou Olson (LeRoy) of Toledo, Iowa. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Wilbur Ray Anderson; and father and mother in law, Melvin and Teresa Kriegel.
Elmer Ray Anderson was born December 30, 1954 in Grinnell, Iowa the son of Wilbur and Betty Hanus Anderson. He graduated from BGM Schools in Brooklyn with the class of 1974 and married Joyce Kriegel on June 8, 1974 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brooklyn. Elmer was a dispatcher for Manatt’s Inc. for over 30 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn.
Elmer enjoyed riding his BMW motorcycles, target shooting, and antique construction equipment. He was an avid bird watcher. Above all, Elmer loved spending time with his family.
