Kynlea Tompkins Heitman, infant daughter of Arec and Jeana Heitman of Marengo, was stillborn Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Private Graveside Services: Saturday, June 16, 2012, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Williamsburg, with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating.
Kynlea is survived by her parents, Arec and Jeana Capper Heitman, her sister Kaylynn, her brothers, Rayce and Ryland; grandparents, Randy and Donna Heitman, and Charles R. and Joanne Capper; her great -grandmothers, Alice Heitman and Bessie Capper; aunts and uncles, John and Stephanie Capper, Jason and Mendy Capper, Jeremy and LynDee Capper, Travis and Kim Heitman, Austin and Melanie Heitman; her cousins, Caitlin, Caleb, Carter, and Makenna Capper, and Taylor, Pierce, Cash, and Brynnleigh Heitman, and Michael and Jackson Shea.
Welcoming her to Heaven are great-grandparents, Maurice and Alvena Miller, Lamont and Wilma Kelley, Raymond Heitman, and Charles C. Capper.

Russell E. Grout, age 63 of Marengo, died Friday, August 3, 2012 in a semi-truck accident. Funeral Mass: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, August 8, 2012, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo with military honors. Visitation: 3 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, August 7, 2012, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with a Scripture Service at 3:30 P.M. and a Knights of Columbus Service at 7:30 P.M. A memorial fund has been established.
Russell is survived by his wife Karen; two daughters, Rhonda Pudil (Robert) of Iowa City, and Gretchen Kochuyt (Jon) of Marengo; two step-grandchildren, Zach and Ashley Kochuyt; and a soon-to-be step-great-granddaughter; a sister Rita Wenger (John) of Sarcoxie, MO. Russell was preceded in death by his parents, and a niece Victoria Wenger.
Russell Earl Grout was born June 5, 1949 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Earl Burton Grout and Dorotha Laverne Smalley Grout. He attended the Riverside schools and graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1967. Russ served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1968-1974. He attended trade school for training in mechanics. Most recently he was employed as a truck driver for Manatt’s Inc, Brooklyn. Russell married Karen Kay Kasper on June 4, 1977 at the Kalona United Methodist Church, Kalona, Iowa.
Russ enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed calling bingo at the American Legion Hall in Marengo. A highlight of his year was playing Santa Claus during the Christmas season. He was a member of the Marengo American Legion Post #76, of which he was the Vice-Commander. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

Leonard F. Cline, age 86 of Guernsey, Iowa, died Friday, August 3, 2012 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 7, 2012, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn, with Fr. Brian Shepley and Fr. Philip Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 7:30 P.M. Monday, August 6, 2012, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn with a Scripture Service at 7:30 P.M. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his wife Doris; his children, James Cline of Guernsey, Carolyn Ashby (Dennis) of Des Moines, Kathleen Baetsle (Chuck) of Hartwick, Beverly Archuleta (John) of Hot Sulphur Springs, CO, Loretta Cline of Grinnell, Robert Cline (Lynette) of Cedar Falls, and Rita McVey (Jerry) of Grinnell; six grandchildren, Staci Andrick (Ken) of Greenfield, IN, Joe Baetsle (Amy) of Brooklyn, Margo Cline of Cedar Falls, Kyle Cline of Cedar Falls, Angelina Willard (Greg) of Des Moines, and Elizabeth Ashby (fiancé Scott Fuchser) of Alexandria, VA; nine great-grandchildren, Dylan Cheshier and Wyatt Andrick, Bobbi Jo, Brandi, Emma, Charlie and Anna Baetsle, Perpetua and Felicity Willard, and baby Willard on the way. Also surviving are his siblings, Mildred Moyer and Evelyn Wiley both of Grinnell, and Bernadette Cline and Paul Cline both of Brooklyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Darold in infancy, Harold, Joe, Francis, and Manus, and a sister Dorothy Cline.
Leonard Frederick Cline was born August 31, 1925 in Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of George Andrew Cline and Margaret Theresa Kriegel Cline. He attended the Poweshiek County schools. He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years. When Leonard returned home, he married Doris Lucille Neitzel on April 19, 1950 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brooklyn. Leonard spent his life farming. He was a member of the Brooklyn American Legion Post #294, and the Farm Bureau. His interests in life were his faith, his family, farming, fishing and reading. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leonard especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family, attending family events, going to dances, sitting on the front porch with Doris, and making noodles.

Lillie Bell Bunn, age 71 of Brooklyn, died July 29, 2012 at her home following an extended illness. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Friday, August 3, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial service will follow at 7 P.M. at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
Lillie is survived by her husband Donald; her children Kimberly McDonald of Grinnell, Janet Tuttle (Ed) of Malcom, Alan Bunn of Brooklyn, Michele Sadler (Tracy) of Grinnell, and Michael Bunn (Vickie) of Brooklyn; seven grandchildren, Cody McDonald, Andrew McDonald, Nicole Sadler Faircloth, Jacob Sadler, Amber Cuellar Towner, Chantelle Bunn and Kendall Bunn; a step-granddaughter Jodi Peters of Deep River; six great-grandchildren, Kyle McDonald, Logan McDonald, Keirsten, Billie, and Jessie Towner, and Orin Faircloth; and two step-great-grandchildren, Taylynn and Liam Peters. Also surviving are a brother Keith Garwood of Grinnell and a sister Geraldine Huff of Buena Park, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Wilma Garwood and two sisters, Joyce Baker and Charlotte “Shorty” Cox.
Lillie Bell Garwood was born July 29, 1941 in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Glenn and Wilma Bell Garwood. She attended the Grinnell schools and later received her GED. She married Donald Floyd Bunn on May 2, 1958 in Iowa City, Iowa. Lillie worked as a housekeeper and a CNA at the nursing home in Montezuma, and the Mayflower Home in Grinnell. She loved spending time with her family, and playing games with her grandchildren. In her quiet time, she was found working word searches, and doing crafts.

Zelma Fay Heller, age 71 of Lostine, OR, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at her home following an extended battle with cancer. Funeral Services: 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 3, 2012, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, Iowa, with Rev. Mike Townsley officiating. Burial will be in the Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday, August 2, 2012, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society in Zelma’s name.
Zelma is survived by her husband Frank Heller; her children, Dawn Marie Stumbo of Shelley, ID, and Tonya Lynn Vokral of New Plymouth, ID; three grandchildren, Franklyn, Tonya, and Gabrielle Stumbo; her mother Beulah Elizabeth Flynn Blake of Riegelwood, NC, a brother H.C. Blake, Jr. (Magdalene) of Acme-Delco, NC, and a sister Elizabeth Ann Settlemeyer (Billy) of Riegelwood, NC.
She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Clay Blake, and a brother Alan Blake.
Zelma Fay Blake was born December 29, 1940 in Acme-Delco, North Carolina, the daughter of Henry Clay Blake and Beulah Elizabeth Flynn Blake. She graduated from Acme-Delco High School in 1959 and then Ray Vogue School of Photography. She married Franklyn D. Heller on August 13, 1960 in Riegelwood, NC. The couple were blessed with two daughters, Dawn and Tonya. Besides being a wife and mother, Zelma was a photographer for many years. She also worked in the construction trade.
Zelma spent her free time doing what she loved: hunting, gardening, quilting, woodworking and carving, photography and reading. She especially enjoyed playing with her grandchildren. She was a member of the National Woodcarvers Association.

Elizabeth Anne “Betty” Parvin, age 92 of Amana, Iowa, died Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Lakeview Village in Amana. Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 30, 2012 at the Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana, Iowa, with Elder Mike Shoup officiating. Burial will be in the Middle Amana Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday, July 29, 2012 at the Middle Amana Community Church. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
Betty is survived by her children, Karen Von Lienen and husband Ron of Marengo, Edward Parvin and wife Rita of Tipton, Clifford “Skip” Parvin and wife Jean, and Susan Spidle and husband Duane of Peyton, CO; seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and six great-great -grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank in 2005, a brother Leonard Rettig, a grandson Scott Von Lienen and a great grandson Denver Parvin.
Elizabeth Anne Rettig was born July 21, 1920 in Middle Amana, Iowa, the daughter of August and Susanna Graf Rettig. She graduated from Amana High School in 1938. Betty married Frank N. Parvin on December 9, 1946 in Missouri. She was employed by the Amana Society in various capacities for over 62 years. Betty was an avid quilter and a member of the Amana Sewing Club for over 50 years. She was a member of the Amana Church Society and the Amana Heritage Society.

Ronald E. Schumacher, age 78 of Marengo, Iowa, died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at his home. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, July 19, 2012, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, Iowa. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blairstown. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Ronald is survived by his significant other, Dee Ann Wilhelm; a daughter Connie Pegump (John) of Walford; three sons, Kevin Schumacher (Teresa) of Jefferson City, MO, Jeff Schumacher of Amana, and Mark Schumacher (Shelly) also of Amana; seven grandchildren, Justin Pegump (Julie), Teran Pegump, Jessie Schumacher (Kate), Niki Schumacher, Tyler Schumacher, Sheena Hogue (Josh) and Kyle Schumacher; and three great-grandchildren, Aria Pegump, Zachary Schumacher and Joseph Schumacher. He is also survived by a sister Margaret Whittaker of Lenexa, KS, and four brothers, Norman Schumacher of St. Louis, MO, Larry Schumacher (Gloria) of Marengo, James Schumacher (Kathy) of Fairfax and Edward Schumacher (Gloria) of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Thomas.
Ronald Eugene Schumacher was born April 10, 1934 in Sumner Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Leo F. and Margaret May Hartin Schumacher. He graduated from Marengo High School. He went to work at Amana Refrigeration, in Amana, and remained there for over 45 years. Following his retirement from Amana, he worked at the Amana Golf Course. Ron loved to visit with family and friends. He enjoyed playing cards, and the fish frys at the American Legion. A highlight of his life was seeing the Presidential plane land at the airport. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and attending their activities.

Dorothy A. Smith Schluter, age 76 of rural Marengo, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 8, 2013 at her home. Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 11, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown, with Rev. David Rempfer officiating. Burial will be in Koszta Cemetery rural Marengo. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday January 10, 2013 at Kloster Funeral Home Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Dorothy is survived by her sons. Don Schluter, David Schluter, and Dan Schluter, all of Marengo; daughters, Darlene Lenoch of Marengo and Dorene Wilcox (Ken) of Marshalltown; along with three grandchildren Chelsea Lenoch (Tom) of North Liberty, Brian Lenoch of Marengo, and Bradley Wilcox of Ladora; a step-granddaughter Michelle Hawkins (Jeff) of Ladora; two great-grandchildren. Charlotte Dillion of North Liberty and Brody Wilcox of Ladora.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Bruce Smith, and a grandson Brandon Collins.
Dorothy Ann Smith Schluter was born February 10, 1936, in Chelsea, Iowa, the daughter of John Wayne Smith and Cleo Baker Smith. She married Donald Schluter on August 25, 1951 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Dorothy was a wife, mother and homemaker. She later worked in the cafeteria at Amana Refrigeration. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading and gardening. Dorothy was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown.

Dorothy J. Rhinehart, age 67 of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn with Shirley A. Van Dee, PLA, officiating. Burial will be in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation will be from 9:30 until 10:30 on Saturday, January 12 at the church. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Richard; four sons, Marvin (Leigh) Hilligas of Ladora, Mark (Trudy) Hilligas of Brooklyn, Lee (Becky) Hilligas of Mesa, AZ, and Lynn (Debbie) Rhinehart of North Liberty; three step-children, Darla (Tim) Ingersoll of Brooklyn, Mark (Kayleen) Rhinehart of Brooklyn, and Steve (Jennifer) Rhinehart of Brooklyn; eight grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are eight brothers, Charles of Central City, Paul of Grinnell, Duane “Dude” (Pam) of Grinnell, Keith (Phyllis) of Newton, Roger of Newton, Wesley of Marion, Dean of Grinnell, and Henry of Newton; six sisters, Annabelle Downey of Ankeny, Donna Strachota of Mason City, Diane (Ron) Parker of Kensett, Marilyn (Dennis) Starnes of Grinnell, Ellen (Robert) McLain of Brooklyn, and Faye (Jim) Brown of Colfax; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Kenny in infancy.
Dorothy June McDonald was born June 13, 1945 in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest McDonald and Grace Paul McDonald. She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1962 and married Donald Hilligas. They were blessed with three sons, Marvin, Mark and Lee. They later divorced. She married Richard Rhinehart on January 29, 1973. To this union Lynn was born. Dorothy worked as a waitress at several area businesses, and was employed with Brownell’s in Montezuma for 14 years.
She enjoyed spending her free time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
