Ruby Irene Blankenship, age 75 of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn. Funeral Service: 1:00 P.M. Thursday, September 27, 2012, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
Ruby is survived by her sons, Duane and wife Becky of Brooklyn, Douglas and fiancée Tammy Andrews of Heiskel, TN, and David of Brooklyn; a step-daughter, Tammie Hoffman of Durham, NC; thirteen grandchildren; three brothers, Merril, Gerald and Keith Speas; and three sisters, Iva Jean Beckett, Maria Ellington, and Joyce Hartz. She was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings.
Ruby Irene Speas was born October 20, 1936 in New Providence, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Goldie Clark Speas. She graduated from Gilman High School, where she was a member of the girls’ basketball team that went to the state tournament. Ruby was employed for many years as a nurses’ aide at Brooklyn Community Estate. She also worked at Montezuma Manufacturing in earlier years.

George A. Berger, age 93, of Norway, died Friday, September 21, 2012 at Colonial Manor of Amana, Amana, Iowa. Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 25, 2012, Trinity Lutheran Church, Walford, with Rev. David Mosher officiating. Inurnment: 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 25, 2012, Cedar Memorial Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, September 24, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walford. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
George is survived by two sisters, Carolyn Craw of Las Vegas, NV and Violet Olds and husband Charlie of Davenport, IA; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Max and Richard, two sisters-in-law, Evelyn and Joyce Berger, and a brother-in-law Nelson Craw.
George Arnold Berger was born April 9, 1919 in South Amana, Iowa, the son of Arnold Fredrick Berger and Bertha Caroline Graesser Berger. He attended the rural Walford schools. George was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Walford. He loved the outdoors and farming. His faith was strong and he enjoyed working for his church, much of the time without anyone’s knowledge that it was being accomplished. He cherished his family and enjoyed the time he spent with them.

Robert Keith Klein, age 76 of Galesburg, IL, formerly of the Marengo area, died Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at St. Mary’s Square Living Center, Galesburg, IL. Graveside Service: 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 21, 2012, at the Marengo Cemetery, Marengo, IA with Rev. Diane Miller officiating. The family will receive friends after 1:00 P.M. until service time Friday, September 21, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Robert Keith Klein was born August 20, 1936 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of John and Vivian Ward Klein. He is survived by his brothers, Kenneth Klein and wife Betty, and Elmer Klein and wife Kathy, all of Cedar Rapids; along with nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Hazel May Klein and two brothers, Delmar and George Klein.

William A. Young, age 93, of South Amana, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Colonial Manor of Amana. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 15, 2012, Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana, Iowa, with Elder Tony Berger officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the South Amana Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, September 14, 2012 at the Middle Amana Community Church. Memorials may be contributed to the Amana Church Society or Essence of Life Hospice. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
William is survived by his three sons, Clyde of Amana, David and wife Patricia of Joice, and Laverne of South Amana; two grandsons, Robert Young (Sara) of Cedar Rapids, and Kurtis Young (Alexis) of New York City, NY; and three great-grandchildren, Madison, Kenzie and William. He is also survived by his sister Emily Oehl of Amana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen in 2009, and a brother Gerald in 2005.
William Alfred Young was born May 23, 1919 in South Amana, Iowa, the son of George and Helene Bopp Young. He graduated from the Amana High School in 1938 and went to work for the Amana Farms. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre. William married Helen Dietrich on May 3, 1947 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was employed by Homestead Implement as a mechanic in the 1950’s. In 1959, he went to work for Amana Refrigeration as a press operator, retiring from there in 1986. William was a member of the Amana Church Society, the Marengo American Legion, and the Amana Young Men’s Bureau.

Maureen Kay Brown, age 55 of Ladora, Iowa, died Sunday September 9, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with George Grothman officiating. Burial will be in Ohio Cemetery, Ladora. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Maureen is survived by her parents, Duane and Lucille Brown, two brothers, Steven and Duane Jr., all of Ladora, and a sister Brenda Lee Peters (Dean) of Bowling Green, VA. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Maureen was born August 17, 1957 in Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of Duane and Lucille Sebetka Brown. She graduated from HLV High School, Victor, Iowa, in 1975. Maureen spent her life assisting with the family farming business.

Erla M. Jones, age 92, of Williamsburg, died peacefully Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City, following a brief illness. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg, with Rev. Kip Murphy officiating. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2012, at the church. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg, or Williamsburg Public Library. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.
Erla is survived by her children: Jeri Jones (Thomas Lemons) of Bettendorf; Kenneth Jones (Marsha) of Williamsburg; Gregory Jones of Iowa City; and Evan Jones (Deborah Hufford) of Mequon, WI; three grandchildren, Jennifer Rutan (Dan) of Roseville, CA; Christopher Jones (Nicole) of San Francisco, CA; and Sophia Jones of Washington, D.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Caden Rutan of Roseville, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry D. Jones, two brothers, Donald and Keith Enochson, and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Joan Enochson.
Erla May Enochson was born in rural Lanesboro, Iowa, the daughter of Earl E. and Lucile Ransom Enochson. Erla attended a one-room country schoolhouse. After graduating from Williamsburg High School in 1937 she began working at Security Savings Bank in Williamsburg. She married Harry David Jones on November 24, 1943, while he was home on leave. Erla left the bank to raise her children, returning when they were all in school. She retired from the bank in 1982 as an assistant cashier.
Erla was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg, Presbyterian Women’s Association, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Erla was a lifelong flower gardener. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzler. Up until three weeks before her death, she still proudly lived at home, gardening and driving herself to the library. Erla was also an accomplished craftsperson who sewed, upholstered and was skilled in many forms of needlecraft, making many treasured quilts.

Rose Marie Blount, age 75 of High Amana, Iowa, died Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital, Marengo, Iowa. Memorial Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 27, 2012, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Katie Dawson officiating. Inurnment: Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg. The family will receive friends from 4 - 7 P.M. Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Rose is survived by her husband Wayne; a daughter, Tamara Schwendinger (Dave) of Williamsburg; two sons, Ronald (Paula) of East Amana and Daniel of High Amana; five grandchildren, Rosie Blount, Beth Ohl (Mark), Abby Birkett (Scott), Ashley Grimm (Tim) and Ryan Klein; three great-grandchildren, Nathan Price, Aidan Ohl, and Anabella Grimm; and her siblings, Betty Graesser (Leroy) of Middle Amana, William Parson of Marengo, and Mary Conway of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Leroy Parson and a sister-in-law, Patricia Parson.
Rose Marie Parson was born February 2, 1937 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Wesley and Elizabeth Muesse Parson. She graduated from Amana High School in 1956 and married Wayne T. Blount in 1958 in Marengo, Iowa. In addition to being a wife, mother and homemaker, she was employed as a waitress for 52 years, working at the Homestead Inn, the Colony Inn, Zuber’s Restaurant and 40 of those 52 years at the Ox Yoke Inn. She enjoyed traveling and collecting. She loved being with her family and friends, and trips to Adventureland. Rose also volunteered at the Amana Elementary School, the American Cancer Society, and was an Avon representative for many years.

Helen Bishop Connor Plotz, age 94 of Marengo, Iowa, died Wednesday morning, August 22, 2012 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Funeral Mass: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 25, 2012, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo. Visitation: 5 to 7 P.M. Friday, August 24, 2012, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to St. Patrick’s Altar and Rosary Scholarship Foundation or the Iowa Valley School Foundation.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Joanne Freshour of Cedar Rapids; a daughter-in-law Mary Connor of Manchester; six grandchildren, Keri Freshour (Jeff Rokicki) and Karla Farrell (John) both of Pottstown, PA, Matthew Connor and Patrick Connor, both of Manchester, John Connor of Ames and William Connor of St. Louis, MO; three great-grandchildren, Reese Rokicki, Marlee Farrell and Nicholas Farrell; and a sister Marjorie Ball of Dubuque. Also surviving are four step-children, Larry Plotz (Sherry) of Marion, Karen Wesack of Middle Amana, Carol Bradfield of Denver, IA, and Marian Consumano (Carl) of Manassas, VA, along with several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Vincent Connor, and Lawrence Plotz, and a son John Connor, a step son-in-law, Steve Wesack, a step-grandson Chad Wesack and a step-great-grandson, Justin Bradfield.
Helen Katharine Bishop was born January 8, 1918 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of John H. Bishop and Elsie Mae Trimble Bishop. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1935. Helen married Vincent “Pat” Connor on February 8, 1941 at St. Patrick’s Rectory. The couple had two children, Joanne and John. He passed away January 20, 1974.
She married Lawrence Plotz on August 30, 1974 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Norway, Iowa. Lawrence died in 2006.
Helen was a telephone operator for Ma Bell during WWII. She worked at Amana Refrigeration, and also the Pioneer Republican Newspaper. She became the editor of the South Benton Star Press and Marengo Publishing and remained in that capacity until her retirement. She also was a photographer and recorded many area weddings.
Helen enjoyed her photography pastime, and playing bridge. She especially cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.

Mildred Ruth Fuller, age 89 of Marengo, died Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, January 29, 2013, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in Genoa Bluff Cemetery, rural Ladora. Visitation: after 9:30 A.M. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
Mildred Ruth Conrad was born July 23, 1923, in rural Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of John and Emma Bollenbacher Conrad. She attended the Oak Grove School, rural Marengo. Mildred married Harley Fuller on February 17, 1952 in Marengo. Besides being a homemaker, Mildred worked for a time at the nursing home, at the bakery in Marengo, and also in Amana. She also worked at the Amana Woolen Mill. Mildred enjoyed car races, reading and crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Ladora Methodist Church.
Mildred is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harley in 1992, a daughter Linda Kay in infancy, a son Richard in 2011, and four sisters, Marie Finley, Irma Wiedemeier, Selma Kuhnle and one sister in infancy.
