Kenneth R. “K.R.” Brannian, age 85 of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Brooklyn Community Estate in Brooklyn. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 21, 2013 at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn with Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial will be in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation will be from 2 until 6 PM on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Kloster Funeral Home in Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Esther of Brooklyn; two daughters, Jeanne Clayton (Rusty) of Brooklyn, Kim Bauman (Lyle) of Brooklyn, and one son Kurt (Kim) Brannian of Carlisle; six grandchildren, Lauren Dillon (Eric) of Chicago, Reed Clayton of Ames, Wyatt Bauman and Allison Bauman of Mt. Vernon, Brock Brannian and Holly Brannian of Carlisle. Also surviving are two brothers Keith and Donald Brannian of Brooklyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son David in infancy.
Kenneth Ross Brannian was born September 18, 1927 in rural Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of Ross and Elsie Elliott Brannian. He attended rural Brooklyn schools, Brooklyn High School, and school of life. He married Esther Ranfeld on August 16, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Kenn served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. Kenn was a lifelong farmer. K.R. was a proud businessman. In 1968 K.R. became owner of Brannian Implement selling International Harvester and various Ag related equipment. He moved this business and developed Brooklyn 80 Restaurant and Standard.
K.R. enjoyed spending his free time going to car races in Knoxville, R.V.ing, Farm Progress Shows, and Bluegrass music. He especially loved his grandchildren

David O. Jones, age 81 of Williamsburg, Iowa, died Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa. Funeral Mass: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 16, 2013, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg, with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial: St. Mary’s Cemetery, Williamsburg. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hall, Williamsburg with a Scripture Service at 4 P.M. and a VFW Service at 7 P.M. Memorials may be contributed to the David O. Jones 4-H Scholarship Fund. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
David Orville Jones was born June 25, 1931 in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Harry C. and Grace M. Pope Jones. He received his education in the Williamsburg schools. He worked for Smith Motor Company for three years before he began his farming career on March 1, 1951. David served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954, serving in Korea. He returned to farming and married Joyce M. Jacobi on May 4, 1957 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo. To this union three sons were born, Randy, Terry and Eric. David actively farmed until 1983, when his sons Terry and Eric took over. He then worked for the Iowa Liquor Commission until the closing of the stores. He continued employment at the physical plant on the University of Iowa campus. He retired from there in 1994. David continued to support the family business as he became the “go-for” for Terry and Eric. The David O. and Joyce M. Jones Farm was given the recognition as a Century Farm in 2012, of which David was very proud. As the years went by, David’s gardening and lawns became a very important and enjoyable part of his day. David was a strong 4-H supporter, and he served as a leader and mentor for his children and grandchildren. His family was very important to him and he attended the children and grandchildren’s school and 4-H activities as often as possible. He also enjoyed daily walks and visiting at the Rec Center in Williamsburg.
David was a lifetime member of the VFW #8797, and a life member of Knights of Columbus. He was a member of and served on the board of directors for the Farmers Coop Grain and Lumber, Conroy, from 1971-1985.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce; his sons, Randy (Lisa) of Olathe, KS, and their son Bradley (Karen) of Alexandria, VA; Terry (Susan) of Williamsburg and their children, Paige of Ames, and Nate attending Iowa State University; and Eric (Kathryn) of Williamsburg and their children, Nicholas, Elizabeth and Clint at home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a half-brother Lester Jones and a half-sister Helen Rathjen.

George “Ervin” Walters, age 81, of Marengo died Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 19, 2013, First United Methodist Church, Marengo, Iowa. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, March 18, 2013, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the Rose Haven Activity Fund or the Marengo Memorial Hospital.
Ervin is survived by his daughters, Lina Rae Busse (Jim) of West Chester, Ohio, and Pam Huedepohl (Mark) of Shelbyville, KY; two granddaughters, Brittani Busse of Houston, TX, and Bethani Bradley (Stephen) of Wake Forest, NC; a great-granddaughter Evelyn Rae; and a sister Darlene Bral of Marengo. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marilyn in 2004, and siblings, Lena Bigbee, Baunetta Watson, Iris Siske, and Clarice and Farel in infancy.
George Ervin Walters was born October 12, 1931 in Monmouth, Kansas, the son of George and Lina Scales Walters. He attended the Kansas, Marengo and Ladora schools. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54, stationed at Camp Roberts, in California. He continued in service to his country in the Reserves until 1960. He married Marilyn “Red” Knock on March 16, 1957 at the First United Methodist Church in Marengo. Ervin farmed with his father in the Ladora, Brooklyn and Hartwick areas until his retirement in 1995. He has resided in Marengo since. Ervin was a member of First United Methodist, Marengo, and the Ladora American Legion.
The family would like to thank the staff of Rose Haven Nursing Home and the Marengo Memorial Hospital for the excellent care and concern that was extended to Ervin. A special thank you to Karen and Mike Schmitz for always “being there” for Ervin and his family.

Helen W. Niner, age 92 of Marengo, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, IA. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 18, 2013 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Burial will be in the Ladora Cemetery. Visitation: 3 to 5 P.M. Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
Helen is survived by her sister Eileen Machen of Marion, and five nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carroll, and a brother Duane.
Helen Winifred Cooperider was born March 7, 1921 in rural Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of David and Lola E. Hoyt Cooperider. She received her early education in the Iowa County schools and graduated from Marengo High School in 1939. Helen was employed as a telephone operator for many years. She married Carroll L. Niner on February 5, 1965 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He passed away in 1975. Helen was a lifelong resident of Iowa County, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marengo, the United Methodist Women, the Happy Homemakers Club, and the “Over 60” Club. She was a beloved sister, aunt and friend to many. She will be missed by her family and friends.
The family wishes to thank the Mercy Hospital staff for the compassion and care Helen received. A special thanks to Dr. Kenneth Cearlock for his attention and excellent care.

Diana L. Lenton, age 60 of Marengo, IA, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at her home from a sudden illness. Memorial Services: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, First Presbyterian Church, Marengo with Rev. Diane Miller officiating. Inurnment will be in California. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Kloster Funeral Home in Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Diana is survived by her two sons, Jason Lenton of Swisher and Jeffrey Lenton of Dubuque; three grandchildren, Issabella Lenton of Coralville, and Alexander and Abbie Lenton, both of Dubuque. She is also survived by a special daughter-in-law Amy Lenton; and Diana’s significant other Chris Cozad. She was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter Elizabeth Lenton, and three brothers David, Danny and Dennis Routt.
Diana L. Routt was born February 4, 1953 in Downey, California, the daughter of James and Christine Scott Routt. She attended Whittier High School in California graduating in 1971. She married Doug Lenton in Oroville, California. The couple later divorced. She worked at Amana Refrigeration as an account manager and Williamsburg Manufacturing for many years. Diana was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marengo, coordinator of the Love Network for 18 years and actively involved with Walk to Emmaus.
Diana especially loved her grandchildren, fishing, and reading.

Robert K. “Kenny” Griffiths of Brooklyn, Iowa (Holiday Lake) passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the Taylor House, Des Moines, Iowa with his loving wife Hazel by his side.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 1 to 4 P.M. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Holiday Lake Community Center, 6A Lakeshore Drive, rural Brooklyn, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to The Kent Church, rural Brooklyn or PALS (Poweshiek Animal League Shelter) in Grinnell, Iowa. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is assisting the family with arrangements.
Kenny was born January 23, 1941 in Chariton, IA to Albert and Cleo Vickory Griffiths and grew up in Des Moines Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service retiring in 2001. His hobbies were playing his guitar, fishing, bird hunting, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family and his friends. He especially cherished the times he got to spend with his great nieces and nephews.
Kenny is survived by his wife Hazel Doddema Griffiths, sisters Doris Norton, Carolyn Price, brother Tom (Renae) Griffiths all of Des Moines, sister-in-law Jackie Griffiths of Weldon and numerous nieces and nephews. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bill, and brothers-in-law Hollie Price and Gene Norton.

Donna M. Kriegel, age 84 of Marengo, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Funeral Mass: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 2, 2013, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. Brian Shepley and Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, March 1, 2013 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with a Rosary at 3:30 and a Scripture Service at 7 P.M. A memorial fund has been established.
Donna is survived by her children, Mary Jeane Watson (Rich) of Laverkin, UT, Elaine McBride (Mike) of Marengo, Daryl (Janette) of Marengo, Dennis (Teresa) of Williamsburg, Michelle Blythe (Doug) of Williamsburg, and Jillynne Young of Marengo; seventeen grandchildren, Jennifer, Melissa, Jason, Jeremy, Joseph, Joshua, Jacqueline, Darys, Kaitlyn, Dillon, Hayley, Bryson, Brandon, Bradly, Garrett, Marshall, and Carter; fourteen great-grandchildren, Aidan, Aspen, Caelem, Evangeline, Willa, Aubrey, Isabelle, Eva, Lydia, Nolan, Maggie, Tyson, Joslyn and Hunter; and a special “daughter” Sharon Carney. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, a grandson, Matt, a brother Junior, and a brother and sister in infancy.
Donna Marie LaFevre was born January 8, 1929 in Panguitch, Utah, the daughter of Frank and Jeane Linford LeFevre. She graduated from Davis County High School, Clearfield, Utah, with the Class of 1947. Donna married Richard Kriegel on August 23, 1950 in Clearfield, Utah. Donna was a wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as a homemaker. She worked part-time as a childcare provider with Cottontail Daycare. Donna also was a babysitter for her many grandchildren. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo, and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Elizabeth “Betty” Blechschmidt, age 99 of Amana, Iowa, died Sunday, February 24, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Thursday, February 28, 2013, Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana, Iowa with Elder Jon Childers officiating. Burial will be in the Middle Amana Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the Middle Amana Church. Memorials may be contributed to the Amana Church Society or the Amana Heritage Society. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her step-daughter, Rosie Brower of Silver Springs, Maryland; several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother Willard Dickel (Mary Lou) of Middle Amana, a sister Marie Schaefer of Davenport and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred “Joe” Blechschmidt, and two sisters, Johanna Kellenberger and Wilma Schaefer.
Elizabeth Louise Dickel was born February 9, 1914 in Middle Amana, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Louise Schmieder Dickel. She received her education in the Amana schools and then attended the Cedar Rapids Business School. Betty married Fred “Joe” Blechschmidt on May 18, 1944 in Missouri. He died September 23, 1987. Elizabeth was employed as a secretary for the Amana Society for many years. She worked until she was 90 years old. She was a member of the Amana Church Society.
