Sondra Kaye Chapman, age 52 of Brooklyn, died suddenly on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell. Memorial Service: 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, December 3, 2014, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn with Pastor Bill Wilkerson officiating. The family will receive friends after 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the church. Memorials may be contributed to "Make A Wish" Foundation. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is assisting the family with arrangements.
Sondra is survived by her mother LaVonne Chapman of Brooklyn; four sisters Ellen Chapman of Brooklyn and Dori Harvey (Dave) of Mediapolis, Jessie Armstrong of Texas and Sherry Chapman of Newton ; six nieces Megan Chapman, Melissa Harvey Aubrey Bothwell, Billie Armstrong, Ina Armstrong, and Micky Lust; four nephews Matthew Harvey, Brian Chapman, Monte Lust and Richard Armstrong. She was preceded in death by her father Allen Chapman and a niece Brenda Chapman.
Sondra Kaye Chapman was born October 12, 1962 in Newton, Iowa, the daughter of Allen and LaVonne Chapman. She graduated from BGM High School, Brooklyn in 1981 and attended college in Tulsa, Oklahoma and received her associate degree from Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sondra worked as a medical records data technician. She was employed by Kaiser Permanente for 20 years. She traveled through 30 states during her employment with Kaiser. Sondra was a member of the Brooklyn Ruritans, and served as their secretary. She was a member of TOPS in Newton and Weight Watchers. Sondra also was a member of Faith Christian Church in Montezuma.
She loved her computer work, and if she wasn’t working she enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Rose Marie Rathjen, age 88 of Marengo, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Memorial Service: 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 29, 2014, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 noon until service time at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
Rose is survived by her son Todd and wife Karla of Marengo, three granddaughters, Deena, Miranda and Chelsie Rathjen, and three nephews, Rick, David and Mark Wanamaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Richard and Dale Wanamaker.
Rose Marie Wanamaker was born November 3, 1926 in Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin and Helen Kratoska Wanamaker. She received her education in the Marengo schools, graduating from Marengo High School with the Class of 1945. Rose was united in marriage to Eugene Rathjen in 1948. The couple later divorced.
Rose was employed in earlier years as a telephone switchboard operator and also as a veterinary assistant. Lastly she worked for the Iowa County Transportation for over 20 years, retiring in 2001.
Rose, known by her friends as “Girlie” and affectionately called “Mommo” by her family, was a standout basketball player in high school. Following her high school career, she played on a traveling all-star team sponsored by Wilson Foods in Cedar Rapids. She never lost interest in the game, and loved following her granddaughters in all their sporting activities. She also enjoyed her trips to the casino. Rose was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo.

Robert W. Little, age 88, formerly of Brooklyn, died Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia, Iowa. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 22, 2014, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, with Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, November 21, 2014 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Memorials may be contributed to the BGM Scholarship Fund.
He is survived by his children, Becky Hammer (Richard) of Newton, Brenda Jermier (Dave) of Dallas Center, and Keith Little of Albia; eight grandchildren, Troy Hammer, Travis Hammer and Erin Yeager, all of Newton, Chris Jermier (Cali) of Grimes, Matt Jermier (Katie) of Waukee and Julie Watson (Chris) of Littleton, CO, D.J. Davis of Pontotoc, MS, and Lance Little (CeeCee) of Pontotoc, MS; 14 great-grandchildren, Elijah, Hannah, Noah, Josi, Greg, Jacob, Bryce, Ellie, Macey, Tyson, Kale, Maden, Jalen and Quentin; a sister Ada Buckmaster of Kansas City, MO, and sisters-in-law, Marjorie Little of Montezuma, Norma Allen of Newton, and Anna Grace Dayton of Brooklyn; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Miriam, a grandson Trevor Hammer, three brothers, Floyd, Gerald, and DeWayne Little and extended family members including Larry Dayton, Earl Allen, and John Buckmaster.
Robert William Little was born May 16, 1926 in rural Delta, Iowa, the son of John Russell and Helen Marie Bates Little. He graduated from Tri County High School, Thornburg, Iowa, and married Miriam L. Dayton on February 14, 1950 at Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn. Robert farmed in the Malcom and Deep River areas until 1961. He then was employed as custodian at the Monroe and BGM schools. Later he worked with his son Keith in the painting business. In his later years, Robert worked at the Brooklyn Flag Store.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Ruritans and Kiwanis, and card clubs. He enjoyed attending the sporting events of his children and grandchildren. Robert was very devoted to his family and community.

Maynard Saylor, age 84, of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell, Iowa. Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 20, 2014, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, with Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, November 19, 2014, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his daughter Patti Nelson and husband Roger of Montezuma; grandchildren, Tammy Nelson of Tiffin, Eric Nelson of Brooklyn, and Sheri Sharer (Bart) of Montezuma; and three great grandchildren, Kane, Jadyn and Clark; and several nieces and nephews. He dearly loved each and every member of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marcella in 2008, and two brothers, Pat Saylor and Bob Saylor.
Harold Maynard Saylor was born June 4, 1930, in Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of Harold “Bud” and Ferne Mowrey Saylor. He attended the Brooklyn schools and later received his GED from Kirkwood Community College in 1972. Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. He married Marcella Ann Christian on February 10, 1951 in Brooklyn. Following his military service, Maynard returned to Brooklyn, was employed by the City of Brooklyn as the Public Works Director for 35 years, and then Northway Well and Pump for a year before retiring.
Maynard enjoyed fishing in earlier years. He was an avid Hawkeye fan, and enjoyed the occasional trip to the casinos. He was a member of the Brooklyn American Legion Post #294.

Richard E. “Dick” Boots, age 74 of Marengo, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell, Iowa. Private Family Services will be held at a later date. His cremains will be buried next to his wife in Springfield, MO. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with final arrangements.
He is survived by a granddaughter, Sandy Lorenz (Kelly) of Marengo; a grandson Jim Starkweather (Val) of Marengo; several great-grandchildren; a brother Ken Boots of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Darlene Crew of Oxford, and Joan Wassmer of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Mary, a daughter Marsha Armstrong, and a grandson Jack Starkweather.
Richard Eugene Boots was born June 6, 1940 in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Wilbur E. Boots and Vada Coleman Boots. He graduated from Viola High School in 1959 and married Mary Eloise Tabor on June 16, 1967 in Lancaster, Missouri. Richard was employed as a truck driver for many years, and operated a lawncare business in Missouri for several more years. He returned to Iowa in the late 1990’s.
Richard enjoyed watching old western movies, and writing poetry. He had a soft spot for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and also enjoyed the companionship of Mitzie his dog for many years.

Debra Kay Hudepohl, age 54 of Marengo, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014, following an extended illness. Memorial Service: 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 10, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church, Marengo, with Pastor Anni Mingin officiating. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.
Debra is survived by her husband Keith, and two brothers, Steve and wife Barb of Cedar Rapids, and Randy and wife Kay of Minneapolis, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Debra Kay Christoffersen was born June 4, 1960 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Alan “Chris” and Glenna Mayer Christoffersen. She graduated from Iowa Valley High School with the Class of 1978, and went on to receive her Associate Degree from Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids. Debra married Keith Hudepohl on May 3, 1980 at First Presbyterian Church in Marengo. She worked as the church secretary at First Presbyterian for a number of years. Presently she and Keith operate a home business selling toys and items on eBay.
Debra was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marengo.

Glen August Stauffer, age 84 of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Monday, November 3, 2014 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell, Iowa. Funeral Services: 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 7, 2014, First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, with Rev. John Reynolds, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is in charge of arrangements.
Glen is survived by his wife of 61 years, Donna Stauffer; a son Lynn Stauffer of Brooklyn; two daughters, Laurie (Tom) Grier of Guernsey, and Lisa Steffensmeier of Brooklyn; twelve grandchildren, Jim Steffensmeier of Paola, KS, Mindy Rhoads (Clint) of Brooklyn, Ryan Ellis of West Haven, Utah, Jennifer Austin (Mark) of Bondurant, Heather Duttlinger (Luke) of Williamsburg, Brandon Steffensmeier of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Amanda Kasten (Matt) of Clear Lake, Josh Steffensmeier (Heather) of Grinnell, Kristen Kriegel (Caleb) of Des Moines, Stacia Brown (Paul) of Brooklyn, Jared Steffensmeier of Holiday Lake, and Greg Stauffer of Brooklyn; ten great-grandchildren, Beckett Rhoads, Caleb Rhoads, Colette Rhoads, Ayden Austin, Jake Steffensmeier, Aiden Steffensmeier, Aston Brown, Ella Duttlinger, Lena Duttlinger, and soon to arrive, Baby Steffensmeier. Also surviving is a brother, Leonard Stauffer (Rita) of Iowa Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Linda, a sister Gladys Shutts, another sister in infancy, and a son-in-law Calvin Steffensmeier.
Glen August Stauffer was born September 9, 1930 in rural Keota, Iowa, the son of Samuel and Anna Pokrantz Stauffer. Glen and Donna Groves were united in marriage on October 25, 1953 at the First Baptist Church in Tama, Iowa. Glen worked for Nesselroad Chevrolet in Brooklyn, as service manager, retiring after 42 years. He served on the Brooklyn City Council for many years. Glen also drove for the East Poweshiek Ambulance Service, and was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge, and the First Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn. In his free time he enjoyed watching hobby stock cars, camping, fishing and gardening. Glen loved John Deere tractors, Chevrolet, and family get-togethers.

Marie Recka Roudabush, age 93, died Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Trinity Hospital in Bettendorf, Iowa. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 6, 2014, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, Iowa with Pastor Bonnie Koeppen officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 9:30 – 11:00 A.M. Thursday, at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn. Memorials may be contributed to the Grace United Methodist Women or the BGM Scholarship Fund. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is in charge of arrangements.
Marie Recka Spading was born in Madison Township, Poweshiek County, Iowa on February 20, 1921. She was the 7th of 8 children born to Mary (Jepp) and Albert Spading. She received her early education in rural schools and graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1938. Marie taught in the rural schools for several years. She married Robert (Bob) Roudabush in 1942 in Santa Barbara, California where Bob was working for Lockheed Aircraft. The couple returned to Brooklyn in 1946 where they raised three children: Bob, Marilyn and Richard. Marie and Bob celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1992.
While raising her family, Marie continued to teach in the Brooklyn and BGM Schools. She also pursued her college education and graduated from Drake University in 1962. Her teaching career lasted over five decades including substituting after retiring in 1986.
Marie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved being with her family as well as friends, neighbors and fellow teachers. Marie enjoyed playing cards, sewing, casino visits, water and oil painting and traveling. She often talked about Bob; her two trips to Europe, and her 2007 cruise to the Panama Canal with her daughter.
Marie belonged to the Methodist Church for over 70 years. She served as the Historian and Co-chairman of the United Methodist Women and was active in Martha’s Circle. She was also a 50 year member of Eastern Star, becoming a Worthy Matron in 1968. She served on the BGM Scholarship Board and was treasurer of the Brooklyn Activity Center for many years. She was also involved in the Brooklyn Senior Housing and Columbia Club.
Survivors include three children: Bob (Pam) Roudabush of Latrobe, PA; Marilyn (Burt) Gearhart of LeClaire, IA; Richard (Jody) Roudabush of Winton, CA. grandchildren: Randi (Dan) Gibson of Darlington, PA; Rob Roudabush of Greensburg, PA; Chris (Kurt) Cournoyer of LeClaire, IA, Gabrielle (Kevin) Roosevelt of Aliso Viejo, CA; Maegan Roudabush of San Diego, CA; Molly Roudabush of San Diego, CA; Justin (Katie) Roudabush of Corvallis, OR; 11 great-grandchildren: Danielle, Rachel and Sammy Gibson, Bennett, Sydney, Tanner and Chase Cournoyer, Charlotte and Alex Roosevelt, and Duncan and Carly Roudabush; a sister Gladys Paynter of Brooklyn, IA, and 19 nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by husband Bob (1993), her parents, three sisters: Edith Spading, Mrytle Ormiston, and Kathryn Metz; three brothers: Ross, Harvey and Marvin; a sister-in-law Ruth Roudabush, and daughter-in-law Joan Roudabush.
