Lois M. Van Ersvelde, age 90, a longtime resident of Brooklyn, and now of Grinnell, died Friday, January 9, 2015 at her home. Funeral Service: 10:30 Monday, January 12, 2015, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn with Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial: Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday, January 11, 2015, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Memorials may be contributed to Camp Courageous in her name.
Lois is survived by her children, Roger (Louise) of Brooklyn, Paul (Carol) of Grinnell, Nancy Van Ersvelde of Cedar Rapids, and Sara (David) Henderson of Bartlett, IL; four grandchildren, Jamie Van Ersvelde (Kelli) of Brooklyn, Jeremy Van Ersvelde (Amy) of Brooklyn, Holly Marquez (Randy) of Chicago, and Jeffrey Henderson of Chicago; and six great-grandchildren, , Brady Van Ersvelde, Taylor Van Ersvelde, Jordan Van Ersvelde, Baylee Van Ersvelde, Rylie Van Ersvelde and Ian Van Ersvelde, all of Brooklyn. Also survived by Anke van Heijningen and Willem Hartman, grandchildren of her heart of Lyndon Station, WI; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bruno, a daughter Martha Van Ersvelde, and her siblings, Martha Doty, Irene Doty, Forrest Doty, Jr., Melvin Doty and Rolland Doty.
Lois Mae Doty was born November 7, 1924 in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Forrest and Nola Mae Tinker Doty. She graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1942. She taught in the rural Iowa and Poweshiek county schools for three years. She married Bruno Van Ersvelde on September 4, 1946 in Brooklyn, Iowa. Following her marriage she spent much of her time raising the children and working the farm with Bruno. She especially enjoyed the springtime on the farm with all the new animals and “a new beginning.” She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, crocheting and making crafts. She taught quilting classes at the True Value Hardware Store in Brooklyn. She and Bruno enjoyed their eight winters in Texas.
Lois was a charter member of the Poweshiek Piecemakers Guild, a 50-year member of the Farm Bureau, and belonged to the WWW Club. Lois was a leader for the Warren Willing Workers 4-H Club, and a long time member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn.

Christine L. Ballard, age 20 of Watkins, died, Thursday, March 12, 2015 in a motor vehicle accident. Funeral Mass: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 17, 2015, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Watkins, with Fr. Craig Steimel officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo. Visitation will be at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 P.M. Monday, March 16, 2015 and visitation will follow until 8 P.M. A memorial fund has been established.
Christine is survived by her parents, Bill and Lori Ballard of Marengo; her brothers, Scott Ballard (Jessi) of Watkins, and Jeffrey (Shelby) of Vinton; her grandmothers, Mildred Ballard of Marengo and Eileen Klenk of Amana; two nephews, Troy and Trevor Ballard, and a niece Alyce Ballard; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her brother Nicholas in infancy, and her grandfathers, LeRoy Ballard, Sr. and Donald Klenk.
Christine Louise Ballard was born August 28, 1994 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Bill Ballard and Lori Klenk Ballard. She graduated from Benton Community High School with the Class of 2012. She had been employed with DJ’s C Store in Norway, and most recently was a CNA, employed with Colonial Manor of Amana. Christine had been active in 4-H and FFA. She enjoyed showing her rabbits, goats and chickens at the fairs. She attended the Old Threshers’ Reunion in Mount Pleasant where she loved helping her Dad and her brother Scott show gas engines. It was her greatest joy to be “auntie” to Troy, Trevor and Alyce, and she will always be “Daddy’s Little Girl”. She especially liked to spend time with her best friends.

Marguerite A. Kahler, age 92 of Marengo, Iowa died Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2015, at First United Methodist Church, Marengo, Iowa, with Rev. Matt German officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg, Iowa. Visitation 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Marguerite is survived by her four children; Iona (Dale) Collingwood, and Steven, both of Marengo, Lonnie (Norrine) Kahler of Ely, and Marjean (Ron) Traut of Garrison; ten grandchildren; Lori (Dave) Shepard of Marengo, Mike (Angie) Timm of Blairstown, Jeff (Tami) Timm of Atkins, Kari (Tim) McCaw of Marengo, Dennis (Vickie) Traut of Marengo, Doug (Jody) Traut of Atkins, Stacy (Curt) Lowe of Swisher, Kelly Norman of Rock Island, Illinois, J.R. Kahler of Ladora, and Jaime Cronbaugh of Marengo; twenty-three great-grandchildren, Sara (Tom) Lucas, Travis Timm, Tyler and Katie Shepard, Taylor, David, Ben and Sam Randall, Josh, Jesi and Jeni Timm; Abby Timm-Haworth, Emma McCaw, Cameron, Daxton and Drew Traut, Riley, Dawson and Sydney Lowe, Kaitlin Norman, Rayce Kahler, Blaze and Brynlee Cronbaugh; three great-great grandchildren, Kaleb, Gracie, and Megan Lucas.
Surviving also are two sisters; Deloris Miller, Geneso, IL, and Elaine (Larry) Means, Greenfield; two brothers Eugene Blount, Victor and Wayne Blount, Amana and two sisters-in-law Mildred Koenig of Walker, and Esther Kahler of Portland, OR, a brother-in-law Donald Kahler of Oceanside, CA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Floyd in 1991, a brother, Edwin and four sisters Geneva, Maxine, Ruth, and Dorothy, and a grandson Brian Floyd Kahler.
Marguerite Alena Blount was born October 1, 1922 in Williamsburg, IA, the daughter of Alfred and Grace Blount. She attended school in Iowa County and married Floyd Kahler on March 11, 1942 in Lancaster, MO. She and Floyd loved to dance, play cards, camp and fish. Marguerite worked at the Amana Bakery and Amana Refrigeration for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 27 years. Later in life, she loved being with her family, playing cards, gardening, crocheting and doing puzzles.
How fitting that Marguerite was reunited in heaven with her husband, Floyd on his birthday! Thank you to the staff at Rose Haven Nursing Home for the exceptional care for mom for the past three years.

William C. “Bill” Meade, age 92 of Williamsburg, Iowa, died Friday, March 6, 2015 at Highland Ridge Care Center, Williamsburg. Funeral Mass: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 10, 2015, St. Mary’s Parish Hall, Williamsburg with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery with military honors conducted by the VFW Post 8797 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, March 9, 2015, St. Mary’s Parish Hall, with a Scripture Service at 4 P.M. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.
William is survived by his children, Connie Frohling (Kurt) of Raymore, MO, Jean Wardenburg (Kevin) of Williamsburg, and Tom Meade (Sandy) of DeWitt; six grandchildren, Andrew Frohling (Krista Rose), Nicole Eastman (Travis), Kyle Meade, John Wardenburg, Josh Wardenburg, and Rachel Meade; and a great-granddaughter, Lila Rose Frohling. Also surviving are his siblings, Wayne Meade of Holbrook, and Marge Sauter of Williamsburg; and sisters-in-law Shirley Meade of Holbrook, and Marlene Meade of Williamsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doloris in 2012, his siblings, Geraldine Meade, John Meade, Anne Cypra, Vernon Meade, Helen Meade, and Don Meade; brothers-in-law, Paul Sauter and Claude Cypra, and a sister-in law, Aileen Meade.
William Clement Meade was born December 1, 1922 in Holbrook, Iowa, the son of William Thomas Meade and Margaret Ruth Meade. He attended the Holbrook and Parnell schools. Bill enlisted in the U.S Navy, serving during World War II from August 1942 to December 1945 stationed in the Pacific Theatre. He returned home and was united in marriage to Doloris Ann Fee on February 18, 1950 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The couple farmed in the Holbrook and Parnell area, before moving to Williamsburg in 1969. Bill also was a custodian at the University of Iowa, worked as a salesman for Mormans Feed and was a real estate agent for Iowa Land Realty.
Bill was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williamsburg, a past member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of VFW Post 8797. He and Doloris were Hawkeye fans and attended many Hawkeye games. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course, and also liked to play cards. He was especially fond of the grandchildren and always attended their many activities.

Sarah F. Roggentien, age 87 of Marengo, formerly of Williamsburg, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 6, 2015 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo where Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. with Minister Wayne Walling officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery, rural Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established.
Sarah is survived by her children, Mark James Roggentien of Chandler, AZ, Jed L Roggentien of Columbus, NE, and Kimberly Sue Jack (Bruce) of Hartwick, IA; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister Elizabeth Carpenter of Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald in 1988, and a sister, Vera Skomp.
Sarah Frances was born October 24, 1927 in Lyons, Indiana, the daughter of Charles Lex Mears and Bessie Mae Waggoner Mears. She received her education in the Lyons schools. Sarah and Gerald Lewis Roggentien were united in marriage on August 2, 1948 in Marengo, Iowa. The couple raised their family in the Williamsburg community, where Sarah was a mother and homemaker, along with working with the school lunch program for many years. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, worked at Sock’s Galore, and the Hanesbrands store for 20 years, retiring at age 85. Sarah enjoyed crocheting, and was a loyal Indiana Hoosiers fan. Her family was so very important to her and she cherished every moment spent with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sarah was a member of the Church of Christ in Iowa City. Sarah had resided in Marengo for the last 18 months, to be closer to her daughter.

Maxine L. Elmore, age 71 of Marengo, died Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at her home, under the care of Unity Point Hospice. There will be no services at this time. Inurnment will be at a later date. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.
She is survived by her husband Robert Elmore, and a brother Clarence McKee of Oskaloosa. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Allen and Lester.
Maxine Louise McKee was born March 30, 1943 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Albert C. McKee and Betty M. Smith McKee. She attended the Oskaloosa schools, and later received her GED. Maxine was united in marriage to Robert James Elmore on November 9, 1992 at Heartland Mall Chapel in Oskaloosa. The couple have resided in Marengo since 1996. When in good health, Maxine was a very bubbly person with a magnetic personality.

Donna Lea Van Lancker, age 78 of Marengo, formerly of Victor, died Monday, February 23, 2015 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 27, 2015, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Matt German officiating. Inurnment will be in Victor Memorial Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the Iowa County Historical Society, Safe Haven of Iowa County, or the Marengo Senior Dining Program.
Donna is survived by her daughter Debra Kay Davidson and husband Tom of Marengo; a brother Gary Foster of Mission, TX; an aunt, Nadine Shaull of Marengo; a nephew, Timothy Foster (Cookie) of Galesburg, IL ; a niece Tracee Van Arkel (Dave) of Malcom; two grandnephews, two grandnieces and a great-grandnephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Marilyn Kay Foster in 1951.
Donna Lea was born May 22, 1936 in rural Victor, Iowa, the daughter of Rex Palmer and Thelma Elizabeth Shaull Foster. She received her early education in the country schools and graduated from Victor High School in 1954. Donna married Vernon Edward Van Lancker on October 5, 1955 at the Victor United Methodist Church. The couple later divorced.
Donna enjoyed listening to the music of the 50’s, and the old time country music. She was an avid Hawkeye fan, especially the Mens’ and Women’s Basketball, and Football. She enjoyed bowling, watching television, and playing Skip Bo and euchre. She was creative, and many of her nativity sets were gifted to family and friends. Donna liked to watch and feed the birds outside her apartment window. She took great interest in her family and close friends and cherished each and every moment with them. She also loved animals, and Abby, her Yorkie, was a constant companion for years.

Robert Edwin Carter, age 67 of Montezuma, formerly of Brooklyn, died Monday February 23, 2015 at Diamond Life Health Care in Montezuma. Graveside Memorial Services will be held in the spring at Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn, Iowa. Memorials in Robert's name may be sent to Kloster Funeral Home, PO Box 341, Brooklyn, Iowa 52211.

Robert leaves behind a brother Richard Carter and wife Sandra of Toledo, a sister Norma Taghon and husband John of Tennessee, and four nieces and nephews, Debbie Burroughs of Tennessee, LeAnn Carter-Rhoads of Brooklyn, Chris VanHamme (Paul) of Tama and Matthew Carter of Muscatine, along with several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Ollie and father William.
Robert Edwin Carter was born April 15, 1947 in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of William Delmar Carter and Olive Elizabeth Ackley Carter. He received his education in the Brooklyn Schools. Robert never married. He worked with his father on the family farm for many years. He liked to relax by watching western movies and shows on television. He enjoyed collecting and fixing up antique tractors. He followed NASCAR and was a fan of Dale Earnhardt, Sr.
