Russell E. Rich
MOUNT PLEASANT ‑ Russell E. Rich, 83, of Wayland, formerly of Lockridge, died Saturday, May 21, 2011, in the Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am. Wednesday, May 25, at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. Dianne Brokken officiating. Burial will be at the Forest Home Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Wayland First Responders or to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Rich was born May 30, 1927, in Henry County, the son of Velma Rich Messer. He married Ina Crile on Nov. 8, 1950, at the First Lutheran Church in Mount Pleasant.
He was raised by his grandparents, David and Naomi Rich. He attended Douglas School at Merrimac. He worked for Nebel Trucking of Wayland, Peterson Implement, Supply Coop, Biggs Feed and Grain and Messer Feed, all of Mount Pleasant. He owned a poultry business and farmed in the Lockridge community until his retirement in 1999, when he moved to Wayland.
Surviving are his wife; five children, Maxine Borglum and husband Jim of Waverly, Beverly Ray of Granger, Michael Rich and wife Cheryl of Mount Pleasant, Gary Rich of Mount Pleasant, and Keith Rich and wife Trudy of Lockridge; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Norma Meyer and husband Jim of Wayland, Ruth Messer of Wayland, and Liz Rugg and husband Fred of Wayland; two brothers, Roger Messer and wife Vern of Williford, Ark., and David Messer and wife Jackie of Knoxville, Tenn.; and one sister-in-law, Mildred Rich of Wayland.
He was preceded in death by his mother; his grandparents; and one brother, Robert Rich.

Louise Kay “Louie” Wagg
Louise Kay “Louie” Wagg, 70, of Washington, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, in the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.
A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home. A general memorial fund has been established.

Martha Elizabeth Triska
Martha Elizabeth Triska, 77, of Des Moines, died Monday, May 30, 2011 in Mercy Hospital in Des Moines following a short illness.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Washington with the Rev. Troy Richmond officiating. Burial will take place at the Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington. A general memorial has been established.

Robert Jesse Chamberlain
LONE TREE ‑ Robert Jesse Chamberlain, 23, of Lone Tree, died Saturday, June 4, 2011, due to injuries suffered in an auto accident south of Lone Tree.
Funeral services will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, at the Lone Tree American Legion with the Rev. Ann Rouse and the Rev. Susan Barnes officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A general memorial fund has been established.

Clement “Jerry” Schwab
KEOTA ‑ Clement “Jerry” Schwab, 78, of Keota, died Sunday, May 22, 2011, in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Memorial graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 27, at Keota Cemetery with the Rev. Frances Baumert officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Keota QRS or the Keota Fire Department. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
Mr. Schwab was born May 28, 1932, near Ainsworth, the son of John J. and Zelda (Lane) Schwab. He married Dorothy Ellis on Oct. 22, 1955, in North Liberty.
He grew up in the Kinross area. He was drafted into the Army, where he served until his discharge as a Sergeant First Class in October 1973. While in the Army he served France, Germany twice, Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the Farmers Lodge No. 168 in Kinross.
Surviving are his wife; one sister, Dorothy Cowell of Omaha, Neb.; one brother, Ernest Edwin Schwab of Coralville; one adopted grandson, Michael David Carl; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John W. Schwab, Donald Albert Schwab, and Duane Francis Schwab; and two sisters, Pearl Maxine Francis, and Rosemary Ann Van Weas.

Robert M. Flynn
KEOTA ‑ Robert M. Flynn, 89, of Keota, died Saturday, May 21, 2011, in the Washington County Hospital in Washington.
A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with the Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries-St. Mary Cemetery in Keota. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Robert M. Flynn memorial fund. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
Mr. Flynn was born Dec. 15, 1921, in Washington, the son of Michael and Mary Almyra (Taylor) Flynn. He married Darlene Conrad on Jan. 27, 1948, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper.
He graduated from Washington High School. After graduation he enlisted in the Navy for six years. He was on ship during the Pearl Harbor attack. He served on several ships, including the USS New Orleans, USS Massachusetts, USS Hampton and USS Winslow. For his service in the American, Asiatic Pacific and European African Areas he received the following medals and honors: American Defense Medal and one star; nine stars for Asiatic Pacific service; one star for European African Service; World War II Victory and Good Conduct Medals. He was discharged on Dec. 16, 1946, as a Gunner’s Mate First Class. He bought a farm and spent the rest of his life farming, which he loved. He enjoyed running around the house with his grandchildren and driving his old blue pickup around the country at 15 miles an hour to check the crops. He loved the farm life, working with the land, tiling, bulldozing, playing cards, reading, and visiting with people of all ages.
Surviving are his wife; seven children, Daniel Flynn of Keota, Linda Greiner of Chariton, Jim Flynn of Harper, Nancy Tutor of Le Claire, Cindy Lebsack of Washington, Janie Odegard of Le Claire, and Doug Flynn of Keota; 20 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Patricia; one granddaughter; one sister, Violet Putman; and three brothers, Taylor, John, and Richard Flynn.

Leonard Lee Still
COLUMBUS JUNCTION — Leonard Lee Still, 82, of Conesville, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, in Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction.

Lula Lydia Hirschy Davies Swanson
MOUNT PLEASANT — Lula Lydia Hirschy Davies Swanson, 97, of Wayland, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, in Parkview Home in Wayland.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at Fern Cliff Evangelical Church in Wayland.

Monna R. “Hub” Allen
RICHLAND — Monna R. “Hub” Allen, 93, of Fairfield, formerly of Richland, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, in Sunnybrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at Richland United Methodist Church.

Lenore A. O’Conner
IOWA CITY — Lenore A. O’Conner, 87, of Iowa City, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at her home.
Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 am. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Very Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating.
