KALONA — Carolyn “Connie” Adele Watkinson, 78, of Riverside, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2011.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond with the Rev. Marty Goetz officiating.

Leona Mae Boller
KALONA — Leona Mae Boller, 88, of Kalona, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, in the Pleasantview Home in Kalona following a decline in health.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at the East Union Mennonite Church.

Isabell Ash
Isabell Ash, 91, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of the Washington area, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, in Jacksonville.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 26, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with John Kristner officiating. Private family burial of the cremains will be prior to the service at the Brighton Hillcrest Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour before the service on Thursday. A general memorial has been established.
Miss Ash was born July 29, 1919, in Brighton, the daughter of Frank and Birdie (Pickering) Ash.
She lived in Wapello until 2005, when she moved to St. George, Ga.
Surviving are one sister, Eloise Morrow and husband Melvin of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Laverne.

Nancy Ann Kessel
RICHLAND ‑ Nancy Ann Kessel, 77, of Ollie, died Thursday, May 12, 2011, in Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, at Ss. Joseph & Cabrini Church in Richland with the Rev. Robert Striegel officiating.

Gerald D. Humble
SHAWNEE, Kan. ‑ Gerald D. Humble, 83, of Shawnee, Kan., died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, in Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee, Kan. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kan. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Amos Family Chapel in Shawnee, Kan., where a rosary was recited at 6 p.m. A memorial fund has been established to St. Joseph’s Church Food Kitchen in Shawnee, Kan.
Mr. Humble was born Sept. 11, 1927, in Washington. He married Margaret E. Becker on Jan. 19, 1952.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army. After his service in the Army he attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for 56 years and was active in numerous ministries and activities. He was a superintendent with the Holland Construction Company, retiring in 2002 after 50 years.
Surviving are his wife; his children, Chris Humble of Gardner Kan., Mark and Rhonda Humble of Gardner, Kan., Renee Humble of Mission, Kan., Grant and Lisa Humble of Kansas City, Kan., Matthew Humble of Kansas City, Kan., Paul and Brenda Humble of Altoona, and John and Kathryn Humble of Beatrice, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Renee Humble, RSM.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant M. and Elizabeth (Bessie) Humble; one brother, John G. Humble; and one great-granddaughter.

Velma Grace Cozart Threlkeld
Velma Grace Cozart Threlkeld, 86, died suddenly on Friday, May 13, 2011, at her home in rural Wellman.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Pastor Martha Yoder will officiate.

Ruth Elizabeth Loeffler
Ruth Elizabeth Loeffler died Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Serenity Care in Beaverton, Oregon at the age of 89. She was born in Brighton, Iowa to Walter and Mabel (Lamansky) Shuppy. She attended country school (Spring Creek Elementary) and graduated from Brighton High School in 1938. On March 5, 1941, she married Willard Loeffler and lived most of her life around Brighton until moving to Oregon in 2010.
She was an avid outdoors person, enjoying her yard, gardening, fishing, and field work.
She is survived by daughters Dixie Emry of Surprise, AZ, Pam (Tom) Franklin of Tigard, Oregon, brother Richard Shuppy of Salt Lake City, Utah, cousin Erma Hoeffer of Brighton, Iowa, 4 grandchildren, Kim (Braden) Barrett and Tomi (Curtis) Kluver of Tigard, Mark Emry of Gresham, and Mike Emry of Phoenix, AZ, 5 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Haley Barrett, Noah and Adli Kluver, and Brock Emry, all of Oregon, 3 sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Willard, brother, Leonard Shuppy, son-in-law Howard Emry, 9 brothers-in-law, and 6 sisters-in-law
At her request, no service will be held. Cremation was provided by Crown Memorial and her ashes are to be returned to Iowa.
The family requests that donations in her memory by sent to First Responders, First Responders, PO Box 320 Brighton, IA 52540.

Dennis John Kelso
KALONA ‑ Dennis John Kelso, 72, of Kalona, died Friday, June 3, 2011, in the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona with Chaplain David L. Yoder officiating. Burial was in the Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Church of the Nazarene in Iowa City.

Helen Marie Knerr
Helen Marie Knerr, 82, of Washington, died Friday, June 3, 2011, at her home following a brief illness.
Celebration of life services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with the Rev. Jim Cluney officiating. Burial will be at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established to the Make a Wish Foundation.

Mabel Irene Monscour
Mabel Irene Monscour, 99, of Washington, died Sunday, May 29, 2011, in the M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 3, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with the Rev. Troy Richmond officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Friday. A memorial has been established to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
