Edythe Bernadine Grosscup, 101, of Washington, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, in University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a short illness.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at the Elm Grove Cemetery.

DURANT — Helen P. Varney, 89, of Walcott, formerly of Durant, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, in Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at the Bentley Funeral Home in Durant.
Phyllis Jean Warren
Phyllis Jean Warren, 67, of Washington, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at her home following a lengthy illness.
No funeral services are planned. The body has been cremated and will be buried at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.

KALONA — Mary Jane Miller, 69, of Kalona, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at her home.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at the Morris Miller residence at 1115 Kiwi Avenue in rural Kalona. Minister in charge is Vernon Yoder.

Virginia Grace Lytle, 96, of Washington, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, in the Halcyon House in Washington after a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington with the Rev. Jim Stiles officiating.

Loren Eugene Moore, 93, of Washington, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, in the Washington County Hospital in Washington following a lengthy illness.
Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at St. James Catholic Church in Washington.

MOUNT PLEASANT — Fay Wood Mills, 93, of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, in the Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mount Pleasant.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at the First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. Herbert G. Shafer, senior pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. An Order of the Eastern Star Service conducted by the Order of the Eastern Star, New London Chapter 440, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral service Thursday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Dion Goedken, 50, of San Diego, Calif., died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, in San Diego.
An ocean-side memorial service is planned for Saturday, Feb. 4, in San Diego, and a later graveside memorial in Worthington is planned. Memorial gifts are appreciated on behalf of his daughter’s college fund Kalani Goedken, 2026 Donahue Drive, El Cajon, CA 92019. The American Cremation Service in San Diego, Calif., is handling the arrangements.

GREELEY, Colo. — Francis “Bud” Avery died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, in McKee Medical Center/Pathways Hospice Unit in Loveland, Colo.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Greeley Wesleyan Church. Burial will be at Fort Logan Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Choose To Invest, a nonprofit ministry equipping college students for short and full-time deployment into Kenya, Africa. Allnutt Funeral Service, at 702 13th Street in Greeley, Colo., is handling the arrangements.

Rollin Clair “Ed” Edmondson, 94, of Washington, formerly of Ames, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, in Halcyon House in Washington following a brief illness.
Celebration of life services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with the Rev. Kelly Allard officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Burial will be at the Oregon Township Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established for Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund or Hospice of Washington County.

DAVENPORT — Shirley A. Van Patten, 75, of Davenport, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, in Genesis Medical Center – West Campus in Davenport.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary chapel in Davenport. The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery in Davenport. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Burial with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.
