DAVENPORT — Shirley Ann Owens, 75, of Davenport, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, in Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Davenport.
Her children held a gathering in celebration of her life, Sunday, Jan. 8, at the home of her son Jeff. Inurnment was held Monday, Jan. 9, at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Kankakee, Ill. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity. The Runge Mortuary & Crematory in Davenport handled the arrangements.

Clarence Lloyd Gingerich
KALONA — Clarence Lloyd Gingerich, 76, of rural Kalona died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at his home from complications of COPD.
A celebration of life will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the Kalona United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gerry Kahler officiating. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Vining at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona United Methodist Church and Hospice of Washington County.

Andrea Jean Greiner
WILLIAMSBURG — Andrea Jean Greiner, 32, of Williamsburg, formerly of Keota, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, near Parnell.
Celebration of life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at the United Church of Faith in Keota with the Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Keota. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg.

Iona Lucille Swartzendruber
KALONA — Iona Lucille Swartzendruber, 90, of Kalona, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, in the Pleasantview Home in Kalona following a yearlong decline in health.
A celebration of life was held at 9:30 a.m. today at the Kalona Mennonite Church in Kalona with the Rev. Scott Swartzendruber and the Rev. Mick Murray officiating. Burial followed at the East Union Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Pleasantview Home Memorial Garden.

Charles William Horning
KEOTA — Charles William Horning, 85, of Keota, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at his home.
Celebration of life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota with the Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be at Keota Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for Keota Community School or Hospice of Washington County.

Bernard “Bernie” August Schmidt
Bernard “Bernie” August Schmidt, 67, of Washington, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, in the University of Iowa Hospitals following a lingering illness.
A celebration of life will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at the Washington United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Stiles and the Rev. Troy Richmond officiating. Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. today at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Four Oaks and Marr Park.

Joseph Samuel Nowell Sr.
WELLMAN — Joseph Samuel Nowell Sr., 85, of Wellman, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, in Parkview Manor in Wellman.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman with Chaplain Mary Arnold officiating. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday. A general memorial fund has been established.

Wayne A. Witthoft
Wayne A. Witthoft, age 88, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, July 16, 2012 at Halcyon House after a short illness.
Celebration of life services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Dan Hayton. Visitation begins at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery. A general memorial has been established.

John 'Butch' Shafer
John “Butch” Shafer, 65, of Coppock, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 at his residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Celebration of life services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will be held at West Chester Cemetery in West Chester. A general memorial has been established.

Lillian Mae Evans
Lillian Mae Evans, age 92, of West Burlington, Iowa, died Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Burlington Care Center following a lengthy illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with services conducted by Pastor Jim Stiles. Visitation will begin 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the American Diabetes Association or the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Donald E. “Don” Walker
Donald E. “Don” Walker, 78, of Keota, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at his residence after a decline in health.
Celebration of life services will be at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Prairie Flower Baptist Church in Washington with the Rev. Don Collings and the Rev. Tim Hadley officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Saturday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Private family burial will take place at the Competine Cemetery near Farson at a later date. Memorials have been established for Prairie Flower Baptist Church or the Keota First Responders.

Arlyn Gene Holden
KALONA — Arlyn Gene Holden, 73, of Des Moines, formerly of Tipton and Williamsburg, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, in the Taylor Hospice House following a battle with stomach cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 15, at the Iles Funeral Home — Dunn’s Chapel. Visitation will be held at the chapel prior to the service, from 3 to 6 p.m. A memorial service will also be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Williamsburg. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service, from 1 to 3 p.m. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa Hospitals, and the Bloomfield Methodist Church at 5930 Indianola Ave., Des Moines. Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona is handling arrangements.

Alma Marie Kiene
Alma Marie Kiene, 83, of Fresno, Calif., formerly of Washington, Iowa, and Rogers, Ark., died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, in Fresno.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Bethel Cemetery near Wapello. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington prior to the service. A memorial has been established to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
