Gordon Hadenfeldt
Gordon D. Hadenfeldt, 61, of Belle Plaine, passed away at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha on Sept. 15, 2011, after a lingering illness. Graveside memorial services were held Sept. 19, at the Marengo Cemetery by the Rev. Charles Johnson. Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine is serving the family.
Gordon was born May 8, 1950, in Sigourney, Iowa, to Kenneth J. and Olive M. (Allee) Hadenfeldt. Gordon was raised in the Ladora and Marengo area. He attended HLV school and graduated from Iowa Valley High School in Marengo in 1968. He enlisted in the Army in 1969 and served in Stuttgardt, Germany, Seoul, South Korea and Fort Hood, Texas, during the Vietnam conflict as a maintenance and door gunner until 1976. He also worked in data computer work with the military until he moved to Temple, Texas.
He married Glenda McKay in Belton, Texas, and they had three children, Cordy (KrisAnn) Hadenfeldt of Round Rock, Texas, Judi Hadenfeldt of Springbranch, Texas, and Lindsey (Daniel) Falcon of San Antonio, Texas. Later, Gordon married Sally Eichhorn of Belle Plaine and had two sons, Seth and Kaleb, both of Belle Plaine.
Also surviving Gordon are his brother, James Hadenfeldt of Solon; sister, Judy (Wayne) Wood of North Liberty; twin sisters, Sharon Robinson of Sunrise Beach, Mo., and Karon Staten of Stillwell, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and great friend, Billy Schwertzfeger of Marengo.
Gordon was a dedicated employee at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for 18 years and was recently employed at the Meskwaki Casino in security. He belonged to the Marengo American Legion Post 76.
Gordon enjoyed life and during his illness, showed bravery and strength to endure the hardships.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He especially loved his children and was so proud of each of them.

John Miltner
John "Jack" Miltner, 86, passed away Friday, Sept. 16, 2011 at Mill Pond Retirement Community in Ankeny, Iowa.
Memorial Services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Memorial Services of Iowa, Ankeny. Burial followed at Ankeny Memorial Gardens, where full military honors were conducted by American Legion, Post 42. Visitation was Monday, Sept. 19, at Memorial Services of Iowa.
Jack was born June 15, 1925, in Iowa City to Francis and Margaret Miltner. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Jack married Bernice Crofta on Jan. 31, 1948. They lived in Ankeny for more than 40 years before Bernice's death on Jan. 31, 2008. He retired from Goodyear in 1983.
Jack is survived by his daughters, Nancy Monaghan of Bondurant, Iowa; Sara (Brian) Hoover of Ankeny, Iowa; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Geraldine (Jack) Lynch of Iowa City and Dolores (Rusty) Krall of Estes Park, Colo.; sister-in-law Virginia Miltner, of Solon, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife Bernice; parents; brother Max Miltner; and son-in-law Tom Monaghan.
Memorial contributions will be given to aid in the training of dogs for veterans care.

Beverly Pospisil
Beverly Ann Hatzky Roy Pospisil, 74, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, in her Sutliff home due to complications of cancer. Graveside services were held Sept. 23, at Sulek Cemetery, rural Shueyville, by Celebrant Mary Morgan.
Surviving Bev are her husband, George; son, Blade Roy of Cedar Rapids; stepsons, Brad Pospisil, Portland, Ore., and Harley Pospisil, Troy, Mo.; four grandchildren, Jared Roy, Justin, Jessica and Rachel Pospisil; and a sister, Sharon (Richard) Hill, of Angel Fire, N.M.
Preceding Bev in death were her parents, and her brother, Roger Hatzky.
Bev was born July 29, 1937, in Elma, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred "Bud" and Dorothy (Manning) Hatzky. She graduated from Colwell High School. Bev had various vocations through life, working at Life Investors Insurance, Collins Radio, Wilson Meat Packing Co., and retiring from McVay's Construction, all of Cedar Rapids.
She enjoyed playing cards and trying her luck at the casinos.
In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials in Bev's honor may be made to the Sutliff Bridge Authority, c/o Sarah Brannaman, 1284 White Oak Ct. NE, Lisbon, IA 52253.

Dean Possehl
Dean Charles Possehl died Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at his home, surrounded by family and friends, at the age of 75 years. Funeral Mass was held Sept. 19, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Father Joseph Roost presided. Burial was at the Marengo Cemetery.
Dean was born April 8, 1936, near Marengo, the son of Carl and Mary (McMann) Possehl. He attended Hilton Consolidated School in Conroy. In 1954, he married Shirley Ann Fry and to this union were born three children: Harlan, Gene and Deborah. They were later divorced. On June 27, 1980, Dean was united in marriage to Marilyn (Mason) Kolosik at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Williamsburg. Dean had lived in rural Marengo since 1964 and was a lifelong farmer. In August 2011 they moved to Williamsburg.
Dean enjoyed horses, traveling to Texas in the winter, telling jokes, watching westerns, playing cards, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Dean was a very loving husband, son, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and brother.
Dean is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two sons, Harlan (Andrea) Possehl of Williamsburg and Gene (Virginia) Possehl of South Amana; a daughter, Deborah (Richard) Hubble of Grundy Center; his mother, Mary Possehl of Williamsburg; a stepdaughter, Bonnie (David) Hackert of Hedrick; two stepsons, Robin (Carrie) Kolosik of Swisher and Shawn (Dawn) Kolosik of Walford; a brother, James (Mary) Possehl of Williamsburg; a sister, Doris (Gary) Kenney of Cedar Rapids; two brothers-in-law, Francis (LaVerne) Adams and Donald (Jill) Mason; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl, and a great-grandson, Calan Anderson.
A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice.

Calyle Ralston
Calyle G. "Red" Ralston, 80, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids, following a lengthy illness. A celebration of life is planned for a later date. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Barbara; daughter Kristine (and Chuck) Rutledge of Swisher; son G.C. "Corky" (and Marsha) Ralston of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Gordon Ralston Jr., Michele Lee Johnson, Brooke Ann Ralston and Heather Rutledge; and great-grandchildren, Tori Gregory, Ashley Johnson, Caleb Ralston, Noah Ralston and Rosilyn Christenson.
Red was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Virginia Bohannon; and brother, Larry Ralston.
Calyle George Ralston was born July 17, 1931, in Maquoketa, the son of George and Mary (Ostert) Ralston. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1949 and then married Barbara Lou Webster on Oct. 29, 1950, in Cedar Rapids. Red worked for FMC/Link Belt and then for Dave Schmitt Construction for many years. He was a member of the Swisher American Legion and the Eagles Club in Cedar Rapids and Ocala and Silver Springs, Fla. Red enjoyed fishing, fish fries and shrimp boils with his family and friends, and especially enjoyed working in his timber at Strawberry Point. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.

Violet Reihman
Violet E. Reihman, 88, of Oxford, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Crestview Nursing and Care Center in West Branch. Funeral services were held Sept. 23, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Coralville. Burial was in the Oxford Cemetery.
Violet Elaine DeGood was born Feb. 5, 1923, in Oxford, the daughter of John and Lena (Kahler) DeGood. She attended Oxford schools through the fourth grade, then attended and graduated from Zion Lutheran School in Oxford. She went on to attend Irish Business College in Iowa City. Violet was united in marriage to Paul Henry Reihman on Sept. 3, 1944, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Iowa City. The couple lived in Oxford raising their family, and when Violet decided to work outside the home she worked for Clear Creek Schools in food service for a number of years. Violet's world was first and foremost her family, she loved being married to Paul; mom to Marlene, Richard, Ronald, Jean and Bob; and grandma to well, too many to mention!
She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oxford, where she was active in Ladies Aid; a member of the Women's Relief Corps, and served two terms on the Oxford City Council, where she co-chaired the bicentennial celebration for Oxford in 1976. Violet enjoyed fishing, doing crafts, sewing, quilting, baking, collecting dolls, but most of all, she loved caring for her family.
Her family includes her children and their spouses, Marlene (Michael) Wiese of Des Moines, Richard (Margaret) Reihman of Oxford, Ronald (Donna) Reihman of Swisher, Jean Reihman-Brandt (Don Brandt) of Marengo and Robert (Judee) Reihman of Tiffin; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and her brother and his wife, Elmer and Barb DeGood of Iowa City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; grandson, Travis Reihman; and three brothers, Ralph, Harold and Cletus.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Violet's memory to either the Oxford First Responders or Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

Marvin Rigel
Marvin W. Rigel, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center. Services were held Sept. 21 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, with burial following in the Czech National Cemetery. Full military rites were conducted by the Ely American Legion Post 555.
Marvin was born June 11, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Leo and Bessie (Barta) Rigel. He graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids in 1947. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. He married Hermina B. Netolicky on Aug. 14, 1954, in Cedar Rapids. Marvin farmed nearly all his life in the Cedar Rapids area. He was a member of the Ely American Legion, Ely Odd Fellows, Linn County Farm Bureau, CSA Lodge Prokop Velky #137, Czech Heritage, National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, as well as SOKOL Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed playing cards, the outdoors, traveling, going to polka dances, attending grandkids' school activities and spending time with his family.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Hermina; children Leo Rigel of Cedar Rapids, Sharon Rigel and her sons, Garrett and Wesley Carlson of Atkins, and Margie Rigel of Marion; Karen's son, Robert (Michelle) Vrba of Des Moines, and their children Sarah Jayne and Robert Lucas Vrba; his sisters, Irene (Chuck) Vavra of Ely, and Norma (Eugene) Rousseau of Bloomington, Ind.; a brother-in-law, Leo Modracek of Cedar Rapids; and a son-in-law, Frank (Kathy) Vrba of Marengo.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Karen Vrba; and a sister, Irma Modracek.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to either SOKOL Cedar Rapids or the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.

Wilma Elaine Gill
Wilma Elaine Gill, 87, of Austin, Minn., died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City. Funeral Services were held Monday, Sept. 12, at First United Methodist Church in Austin, Minn. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
Wilma was born Feb. 19, 1924, to Otto and Lottie (Bly) Heidtke. She married Erwin Lawrence Gill on June 6, 1944, in Spring Valley, Minn. They moved to Austin and Wilma worked at Hormel for a few years before giving birth to her two children. After the birth of her kids, Wilma stayed home to raise them. Once the kids were raised Wilma went back to work for the Austin Community School district as a cook.
Wilma loved to give to others, bake, crochet, make kitchen towels, washcloths and most of all she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and close friends. Since April of this year, Wilma lived with her daughter in Solon and then in July she moved to Emerson Point in Iowa City.
She is survived by a son; Phillip (Linda) and their daughter Emily Gill, a daughter; Debra (Paul) Miller and their children Valerie (Greg) Michek, Katie (David) Falco, Natalie Miller, Nathan Miller and Austin Miller. Great grandchildren; Ashton, Nolan and Jaycee Michek, Dominic and Jillian Falco, and a special friend Rita Heyer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother George Heidtke, a sister Doris Renslow and special friend Martin Heyer.
