Betty Fiddelke
Services were Nov. 22, 1999 for Betty Jane Fiddelke, 71, of rural Granville, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown. The Rev. Steven Hayden officiated with burial in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Germantown under the direction of Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Paullina.
Mrs. Fiddelke died Nov. 19 at the Orange City Hospital in Orange City.
Mrs. Fiddelke was born Oct. 17, 1928, in Cherokee County, the daughter of John and Ella (Tesch) Mesner Jr. She was baptized Nov. 11, 1928, and confirmed April 8, 1943. She attended St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown.
She married Leonard Fiddelke June 16, 1946, at St. John's Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in the Germantown area for many years. After their retirement, the couple remained on an acreage near Germantown.
She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters and their husbands, Jeanette and John Lenz of Chicago, and Jean and Glenn Norris of Cherokee; two sons and their wives, Les and Sheryl Fiddelke of Paullina and Loren and Helen Fiddelke of Holstein; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother and his wife, Ronald and Mary Mes-ner of Slayton, Minn.; and other relatives.

John Penrod
John W. Penrod, 75, of Milwaukee, Wis., formerly of Galva died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999 at Veterans Hospital in Milwaukee, Wis.
Services and burial were in Union Grove Veteran's Cemetery in Southern Racene County, Wis.

Juanita Jahncke
Services were Nov. 20, 1999 for Juanita Jahncke, 88, of Battle Creek, formerly of Webster City, at Foster Funeral Home in Webster City. The Rev. Bill Kem officiated with burial in Graceland Cemetery.
Mrs. Jahncke died Nov. 9 at Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek.
Mrs. Jahncke was born Oct. 13, 1911, in Webster City, the daughter of George and Chlistra (Willson) Wilson. She was educated in the Webster City schools.
She married Wilfred Harry Jahncke in 1941 in Webster City. She was a homemaker. He died in 1972. She lived in Audubon with her daughter from 1992 until 1998 when moved to the care center.
She was a member of R.S.V.P.
Survivors include two daughters, Wynoka Heidick of Webster City and Norma Burger of Audubon; two sons, George Duden of Mt. Pleasant, Utah and Harry Jahncke of Dolan Springs, Ariz.; 28 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elizabeth Rice and Lucy Jahncke, both of Battle Creek.

Frances "Sadie" Barrett
Memorial services were Nov. 13, 1999 for Frances "Sadie" Barrett, 76, of Ida Grove at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. In inurnment was in Ida Grove Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mrs. Barrett died Nov. 10 at her home.
Mrs. Barrett was born Feb. 17, 1923, in Ida County, the daughter of Emil and Clara (Marth) Hargens. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Battle Creek.
She married Don Barrett Dec. 14, 1948, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. The couple lived their entire married life in Ida Grove.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Esther Cir-cle #4 where she had served as president. She enjoyed baking, sewing, bridge and golfing.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Guy and his wife, Judy Barrett of Ida Grove and Kirk Barrett of Fort Dodge; two daughters, Sonna Kae Barrett Newton of Webster City and Sheila and her husband, Doug Soellner of Galva; seven grandchildren, Kristi Al-trin-ger, Benjamin, Jenna and Calvin Newton, and Kent, Kurt and Megan Soellner; two sisters-in-law, Lydia "Bids" Hargens of Holstein and Hattie J. Hargens of Ida Grove; a host of nieces and nephews; and living relatives on the Barrett side Norman Barrett, Beverly Barrett, Bruce Barrett and Charles Barrett.

Philip Voge
Services were Nov. 15, 1999 for Philip Paul Voge, 19, of Galva at Galva-Holstein High School gymnasium in Holstein. The Rev. Doris Lindley officiated with burial in Holstein Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.
Mr. Voge died Nov. 13 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City of injuries sustained in a Nov. 7, one vehicle accident, south of Galva.
Mr. Voge was born June 29, 1980, at Storm Lake, the son of Paul Voge and Debra Thompson. He was a 1999 graduate of Galva-Holstein High School and was enrolled as a freshman at Northwest Missouri State University (NWMSU) in Maryville, Mo.
He was involved in many sports and youth activities, such as choir, school plays and 4-H. In track he qualified for state twice in the discus event. He was a four-year starter in football for the Galva-Holstein Pirates, and a three-year first team all-district lineman. During his senior year, he was co-captain of the team, and named first team all-state offensive lineman. He played defensive end at NWMSU.
He was baptized and confirmed into membership at Galva United Methodist Church, where he served various offices within their youth fellowship.
For the past three years he was employed by Williams Construction of Holstein.
Survivors include his father, Paul; his stepmother, Lois; a brother, Matthew Voge of Mary-ville, Mo., and his fiancee, Kallie Mentzer of Indianola; a sis-ter, Bethany Voge, at home; a stepsister and her husband, Sharie and Craig Head of Lincoln, Neb.; a step-brother, Travis Brockman of Aus-tin, Texas; a very special friend, Carrie Johnson of Ida Grove; a ma-ternal grandmother, Mildred Thompson of Norfolk, Neb.; his paternal grandfather, Walter Voge of Holstein; step grandparents, Floyd and Dona Miller of Belden, Neb.; a step grandmother, Martha Holm of Laurel, Neb.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Marian Conover
Services were Nov. 15, 1999 for Marian H. Conover, 83, of Mo-ville, formerly of Holstein, at First Lutheran Church in Kingsley. The Rev. Judith Piper, pastor at the United Methodist Church in Holstein, officiated with burial in Holstein Cemetery under the direction of Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.
Mrs. Conover died Nov. 11 at a Sioux City hospital.
Mrs. Conover was born June 28, 1916, in rural Holstein, the daughter of Fred and Amanda (Hanson) Munz. She attended Holstein Community School and received her G.E.D. from Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, in 1970.
She married Wendell H. Conover Sept. 22, 1932, in Elk Point, S.D. He died in 1989. She married Elzie F. Bottjen June 11, 1994.
She was employed as a grocery clerk in Ida Grove and Holstein. She was a postal clerk with the Holstein Post Office from 1965 until retiring in 1978.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church and National Association of Federal Employees Chapter 277 in Sioux City.
Survivors include her husband; two sons and their wives, Wendell and Marie Conover of Lincoln, Neb., and Marion and Bonnie Conover of Adel; four daughters, Shirley Rickard of Chandler, Ariz., Dorothy Johnston of Baxter, Carol Kay and her husband, William Major of Urbandale, and Kathryn and her husband, Dennis Grell of Altoona; three stepchildren, the Rev. Dean and his wife, Charlene Bottjen, of Wateska, Ill., Debra Wenham of Kingsley and Eric and his wife, Peggy Bottjen of Omaha, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Paulette Smith
Services were Nov. 15, 1999 for Paulette J. Smith, 57, of Sioux City at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City. The Rev. Kevin M. Richter officiated with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mrs. Smith died Nov. 11 at a Sioux City hospital.
Mrs. Smith was born July 5, 1942, in Sioux City, the daughter of Cecil L. and Charlotte (Martin) Brooks.
She married Russell William "Billy" Kesler. He died in 1963. She married Jiles "Sonny" Barbee. She later married Dennis E. Smith.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Survivors include her special friend, Ray Campbell Jr. of Sioux City; her stepfather, John Holin-check of Sioux City; four sons, Douglas and his wife, Debbie Kesler, of Georgia, Dennis Smith Jr. and his fiancee, Stephanie Nordstrom of Holstein, Joseph Smith of Sioux City and Tony and his wife, Rachel Smith of Sioux City; three daughters, Johna and her husband, Lonnie Arthaloney of Sioux City, Christine and her husband, Paul Herfel of Sioux City, and Sarah Smith of Oklahoma; three brothers, Jerry Brooks of Sioux City, John Jr. and his wife, Janet Holincheck Garden City, Kan., and Michael and his wife, Kate Holincheck of Fairfax, Va.; two sisters, Sonya Rowland of Knoxville and Shirley and her husband, Jerry Nichols of Sioux City; 19 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Evelyn McDermott
Memorial services were Nov. 16, 1999 for Marion Evelyn McDermott, 76, of Wayne, Neb., at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne. The Revs. Martin Russell and William Koeber officiated with burial in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Schumacher-Haseman Funeral Home in Wayne.
Mrs. McDermott died Nov. 12 at her daughter's home in Sioux City.
Mrs. McDermott was born Sept. 29,1 923, in South Sioux City, the daughter of George W. and Besse (Sheldon) Leamer. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1941. She attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and Creighton University School of Law, Omaha. She was admitted to the Nebraska Bar in 1948.
She married Charles Everett McDermott of Holstein Feb. 7, 1948, in Sioux City. In 1948, the couple moved to Wayne where they practiced law together. He died in 1993. She continued working until recently.
She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, P.E.O., Alpha Chi Omega, Nebraska State Bar Association and Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son, Father Thomas McDermott, O.P., of Lagos, Nigeria; a daughter and her husband, Lesa McDermott and Douglas Hodgins of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Norris G. and Beth Leamer of Pierce, Neb.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Harold and Joan McDermott of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials, in her name may, be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Christina Carter
Services were Nov. 17, 1999 for Christina Huseman Carter, 33, of Galva at St. John's Lutheran Church in Galva. Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Galva under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.
She died Nov. 12 at a Sioux City hospital.

Kadin Lee Divis
Courtney Marie Divis
Services for Kadin Lee Divis, who was stillborn Nov. 8, 1999, and Courtney Marie Divis, who was stillborn Nov. 10, 1999, infant twins of Brett VanSickler of Dakota City and Rachel Divis of Sioux City were Nov. 15 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

Almer Noyd
Memorial services were Nov. 4, 1999 for Almer Gunner Noyd, 92, of Odebolt at Faith Lutheran Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Victor Johnson officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.
Mr. Noyd died Oct. 31 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Mr. Noyd was born April 11, 1907, the son of John E. and Mathilda Noyd. He spent his early years on the Noyd family farm northwest of Odebolt. He attended Richland Township School and graduated from Odebolt High School in 1926. He worked for Lindsey's Grocery and Department Store in Arthur and Brynstson's Clothing in Odebolt and assisted on the family farm following graduation.
He married Helen Dannenberg in December 1936 and farmed the first five years. In 1941, he entered the petroleum distribution and heating contractor business, retiring in 1974.
He was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church where he also served as an usher, church council member and on various building and landscape committees. Throughout his business years, he volunteered his time for the Odebolt Community Fair, the city council, the Odebolt Chamber of Commerce, the Odebolt Cemetery Board. He was a founding board member of Colonial Manor Nursing Home and the Sac County Conservation Board. He was instrumental in securing funding and selecting parcels for the establishment of the county parks. In 1991, the Almer Noyd Wildlife Area was designated to recognize his 25 years of service to the county parka system.
Survivors include a son, John Noyd of West St. Paul, Minn.; a brother, Howard Noyd of Bellevue, Wash.; first cousins in Storm Lake and Sweden; in-laws, Elizabeth Noyd, Elaine Raasch, Ruth and Harold Boney and Mavis Dannenberg; four nieces, Nadine Proctor of Cordova, Tenn., Karen Rector of Ida Grove, Candace Noyd of Dallas, Texas and Valerie Noyd of Plano, Texas; a nephew, Jay Noyd of Denton, Texas; many Dannenberg nieces and nephews; and cousins.

Irene McDonough
Services were Nov. 6, 1999 for Irene J. McDonough, 97, of Odebolt at the United Methodist Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Al Milligan officiated with burial in Cook Center Cemetery in Schaller under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.
Mrs. McDonough died Nov. 3 at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt.
Mrs. McDonough was born July 25, 1902, in Buffalo Center, the daughter of Jesse and Julia (Dutton) Black.
She married Albert W. McDonough Oct. 25, 1927, in Sioux City. The couple lived in the Auburn area then moved to an acreage north of Odebolt. They later moved into Odebolt. She was employed as a switchboard operator at the Odebolt telephone office. He died in 1989.
She was a member of United Methodist Church and Odebolt United Methodist Circle, Relief Corps and the Rebekahs.
Survivors include two nieces, Kathy (Mrs. John) Sabaliauskas of Omaha, Neb., and Marilyn (Mrs. Melvin) Johnson of Burt;; a nephew and his wife, Jim and Bonnie Wieborg of Palm Desert, Calif.; other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dorothy Lohafer
Services were Oct. 30, 1999 for Dorothy Anna Lohafer, 75, of Holstein at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein. The Rev. Curtis Benson officiated with burial in Holstein Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.
Mrs. Lohafer died Oct. 28 at Good Samaritan Center in Holstein.
Mrs. Lohafer was born Feb. 15, 1924, in Willow Lake, S.D., the daughter of Carl and Valley Fern (Pippert) Thies. She graduated from Quimby High School in 1942 and from the Lutheran School of Nursing in Sioux City in 1945.
She was married to Walter Lohafer July 31, 1948, in Cherokee. She was employed with Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee for 42 years, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the advisory board of Good Samaritan Center.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter and her husband, Laurie and Trent Graham of Waupaca, Wis.; five sons, Douglas and Phillip Lohafer, both of San Jose, Calif., Timothy and his wife, Janet Lohafer, of Hinton, Mark and his wife, Rachel Lohafer of Ames, and Joel and his wife, Annette Lohafer of Ferndale, Wis.; a sister, Lorane Washburn of DeSmet, S.D.; a brother and his wife, Carl and Mary Ann Thies of Anaheim, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.
