Lois Frykberg

Lois H. Frykberg, the daughter of Henry C. and Mabel Nelson Anderson, was bon March 16, 1917 in Albert City. Her childhood years were spent in Albert City, where she received her education, graduating from Albert City High School. Following high school, Lois attended Buena Vista College for one year.

Lois married icon Mauritz Frykberg on Feb. 9, 1938 in Albert City. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Albert City area until 1940 when they moved to Boulder, Colo. In 1953, Lois and Mauritz purchased a retail variety store in Dows, which they operated until 1975. They resided in Storm Lake from 1979-1991, when they moved to Spencer. Lois was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer. She enjoyed handiwork, golfing and bowling. During their retirement years Lois and Mauritz especially enjoyed RV traveling and camping. Lois resided at Riverview Terrace in Spencer for several years before moving to St. Luke Lutheran Home in October 2004.

Katelyn Duff

Katelyn Lindsay Duff was born icon on Dec. 4, 1990 in Miami Beach, Fla. to Edward Duff and Rhonda Harrington. She moved to Storm Lake soon after her birth. At age two, she moved to Faith, Hope and Charity in Storm Lake.

Katelyn enjoyed spending time with her grandma.

Karl Sweet

Karl Sweet, age 98, of Storm Lake, passed away Monday, November 29, 2004 at Methodist Manor.

Funeral service was Friday, December 3, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at Storm Lake United Methodist Church. Burial was in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ronald Challman

Ronald Francis Challman, a former resident of the Storm Lake area, died on September 24, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Ron was born icon on May 11, 1929 in Sioux City to the late Donald F. and Nelle (Murphy) Challman, who farmed in several locations in the area. After their retirement, they made their home in Storm Lake. Ron attended schools in Ida County and graduated from Schaller High School in 1947 and Creighton University in 1951.

Shirley Woods

Shirley M. Woods, age 74, of Holstein, formerly of Storm Lake, died Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at Holstein Good Samaritan Center in Holstein.

Memorial services were Friday, December 3, 2004 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, with Rev. Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial was in Good Shepherd Cemetery in Jackson, Minn. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of arrangements.

Vira Reng

Vira Reng, age 81, of Alta, died Sunday, November 28, 2004 at her home in rural Alta.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 4, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. Vira Verle Holmes was born icon November 23, 1923 in rural Alta to Harrison H. and Bessie Mae (Follett) Holmes. She was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church in Alta. She received her primary education in the Alta schools, graduating from Alta High School. Vira went on to attend Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and West Suburban Oak Park College in Chicago, Ill.

Salvador Farias, Jr.

Salvador Farias, Jr., age 21, of Storm Lake died Friday, January 28, 2005 in rural Sac County following an automobile accident.

Funeral Mass was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake on Monday, January 31, 2005 at 3:20 p.m., with Father Eriberto Da Costa officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of arrangements.

Eleanor Lane

Funeral services for Eleanor Lane were held Saturday, January 29, 2005, 11 a.m., at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt, with Father John McGuirk presiding. Pallbearers were Bill Wright, Carl Hemer, Jim Wareham, Kris Jung, Jim Sorensen, and Rodney Olerich. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Storm Lake under the direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Eleanor Jean Lane, age 85, of Odebolt passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center.

Wayne W. Armstrong

Wayne W. Armstrong, age 78 of Storm Lake died Thursday, January 27, 2005 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.

Private family memorial services were Monday, January 31, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Betty Silverberg

Betty C. Silverberg, 81, of Storm Lake, formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, January 29, 2005 in Omaha, Neb., after a brief illness. Funeral services are on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at Congregation Beth Shalom in Sioux City. Rabbi Bonnie Leavy will officiate.

Betty was the daughter of Solomon and Helen (Major) Silverberg and was born icon on November 30, 1923 in Sioux City. She grew up in Elk Point, S.D. and Storm Lake and graduated from Storm Lake High School. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and a master’s from the University of Nebraska.

Buford McClinton

Buford M. McClinton, age 86, of Storm Lake, died Monday, February 14, 2005 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines. Arrangements were under the direction of Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Creighton Hanson

Creighton C. Hanson, age 58, of Marathon, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2005 at his home.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 17, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rembrandt, with Reverend Durwood Clauson officiating. Burial was in Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon. Arrangements were under the direction of Sliefert Funeral Home in Marathon.

Sophia Schramm

Sophia Schramm, age 102, of Storm Lake, died Monday, February 14, 2005 at Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 18, 2005 at 2 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, with Reverends E. W. Lichtsinn and Douglas Haynes officiating. Burial was in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Arrangements were under the direction of Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Lucille “Jackie” Landgraf

Lucille A. “Jackie” Landgraf, age 71, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Storm Lake, died Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 18, 2005 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Storm Lake. Arrangements were under the direction of Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Stanley Haahr

Stanley Haahr, founder of MetaBank, Storm Lake land developer, charter Lake Creek Country Club member, Buena Vista University benefactor, and former Alta High School teacher, passed away March 2 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. He was 89.

Helen Starr

Helen Starr, age 97, of Storm Lake, died Saturday, February 26, 2005 at Methodist Manor.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 4, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake, with Reverend Duane Queen officiating. Burial was in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery.

Arlene Nordine

Arlene Nordine, age 93, of Albert City, died Saturday, February 26, 2005 at Pleasant View Home.

Arlene Ingeborg Sofia (Forsberg) Nordine was born icon on September 27, 1911, to Carl and Alphild (Anderson) Forsberg and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 26, 2005. Arlene lived in or near Albert City all of her life.

Quintus Koth

Quintus John Henry Koth was born icon July 14, 1928 in Ida County, the son of Carl and Anna (Keilers) Koth. He passed away at his home in Hayward, Calif. on Saturday evening, Februay 19, 2005 at 76. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Quintus grew up on farms in the Alta community and graduated from Alta Consolidated School with the class of 1946. He attended Iowa State College where he joined the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corp and was commissioned an ensign in the United States Navy at graduation ceremonies in June 1950. Quintus was also awarded a bachelor of science degree in industrial economics.

Charlie Behrens

Charlie H. Behrens, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. There will be no visitation, but following the memorial service, family and friends are invited to gather together at the Lakeshore Café in Storm Lake to share memories and celebrate Mr. Behrens’ life.

Dorothy Menke

Dorothy Menke, age 86, formerly of Fonda, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at Greenfield.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 28, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda with Father Thomas Hart as celebrant at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Fonda under the direction of Mahaney Funeral Home.

Mae Ewalt

Mae Ewalt, 97, of Coralville died suddenly Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2005 at Coralville United Methodist Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Coralville.

Memorials may be made to Coralville United Methodist Church or the Coralville Recreation Department for the M. A. Ewalt Park.

Emma Grace Johnson

Emma Grace Johnson, six months, of Topeka, Kan., died on Sunday, February 13, 2005, at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

She was born icon Aug. 5, 2004, in Topeka, Kan., the daughter of Scott and Julie Shirk Johnson.

Mildred M. Nielsen

Services for Mildred M. Nielsen, age 95, of Newell, Iowa will be held Sunday, April 3, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. There will be no visitation. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Nielsen died Thursday, March 31, 2005 at the Newell Good Samaritan Home.

Ethel Grotjohn

Services are pending at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller for Ethel Grotjohn of Schaller, Iowa who died Thursday, March 31, 2005 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Ruby Pewsey

Ruby Pewsey, age 93, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at her home in Otsego Place. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 2, 2005 at 1:30 pm at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend David Koehler officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake from 4: 30 to 7:00 pm on Friday, April 1, 2005, where the family will be present.

Charlie Behrens

Charlie H. Behrens, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. There will be no visitation, but following the memorial service, family and friends are invited to gather together at the Lakeshore Café in Storm Lake to share memories and celebrate Mr. Behrens’ life.

Kenneth Ohlson

Kenneth T. Ohlson, 78, of rural Cherokee, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at 8:40 p.m. in Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 1 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor Larry Nilson officiated. Burial was in the Good Hope Cemetery, rural Cherokee.
