September 11, 1950 - May 2, 2013

Mrs. Nancy L. (Zens) Greening, 62, of Peru, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the Mueller Funeral Home in Peru. Funeral services will be private with burial in Peru City cemetery.

Mrs. Greening was born on September 11, 1950 in Peru to John and Betty (Chado) Zens. She married William F. Greening on July 14, 1979 in Peru. She was a homemaker and a member of USBC.

She is survived by her husband, William F. Greening of Peru; her mother, Betty Zens of Piety Hill, IL; three sons, William J. Greening, Steven M. Greening, and Jason C. Greening all of Peru; one daughter, Denise (Dean) Harper of Peru; one granddaughter; two brothers, John (Laura) Zens of Peru and Jim (Chris) Zens of Oglesby; one sister, Linda (John) Gard of Piety Hill, IL.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to help the local rescue stations.

Lenora Barbara (Mussatto) Bean
November 21, 1916 - April 30, 2013

Lenora Bean, 96, of Cedar Point, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru.

Private services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Prey-Mueller Funeral Home in Oglesby with the Rev. Paul Carlson, of St. Patrick Church, LaSalle, officiating. Burial was in St. Vincent cemetery in LaSalle.

Lenora was born November 21, 1916 in Cedar Point to John and Mary (Madlena) Mussatto. She married Elmer Bean on April 12, 1936 in St. Theresa Church in Cedar Point. She operated Leonora’s Beauty Shop in Cedar Point for many years.

She is survived by three children, Ronald (Anita) Bean and Karen Guynn both of Cedar Point, Bonnie (Mike) Novak of Peru; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Patarozzi of Cedar Point.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer on June 12, 1980; one grandson, Todd Guynn; one brother and two sisters.

Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association

EUGENE V. KISELLUS
March 10, 1940 - April 27, 2013

Mr. Eugene 'Jim' V. Kisellus, 73, of Utica, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013 at OSF St Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Mighty Word Church in LaSalle Pastor Thomas Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner cemetery in Braceville. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mueller Funeral Home in Peru. Additional visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Mr. Kisellus was born on March 10, 1940 in Braceville, IL to Victor and Phyllis (Weber) Kisellus. He married Gail Neitzer on June 5, 1985 in Dwight, IL. Jim was a corporate pilot for 12 years, owner and operator of an oil and trucking company in Gardner, and retired as owner of Future Communications. He was a member of Mighty Word Church in LaSalle and the U.S. Oil and Gas Association.

He is survived by his wife, Gail of Utica; 2 daughters, Kalli Kisellus of Bradenton, FL and Angela (John) Brannen of Morris; 5 sons, Mark (Kim) Kisellus of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Eric (Julie) Kisellus of Utica, Kevin Kisellus of New Smyrna Beach FL, Tony (Bonnie) Neitzer of Zimmerman, MN, and Patrick (Martha) Neitzer of Crivitz, WI; 12 grandchildren; one sister, Joy (Chester) Render of South English, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Eric Kisellus, Kevin Kisellus, Adam Kisellus, John Brannen, Tony Neitzer, and Patrick Neitzer. Honorary pallbearers will be Skyler Kisellus, Ian Neitzer, Aaron Brannen, and Alex Brannen.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Mighty Word Church in LaSalle.

Carl S. Sampson
November 18, 1959 - April 25, 2013

Carl S. 'Coote' Sampson, 53, of Marseilles, died Thursday morning, April 25, 2013, following a two-vehicle accident on Rt. 71 in Kendall County.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 29 at Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa with the Rev. Peter Brick, Pastor, of First Baptist Church in Ottawa. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Ottawa Avenue cemetery.

Coote was born on November 18, 1959 in Ottawa to Carl and Sharon (Skowronski) Sampson. He married Laurie Hogan on September 20, 1996 in Ottawa. He was a field supervisor for Chattel Properties Inc., in Ottawa.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie, of Marseilles, his mother, Sharon Greene, of Ottawa, 4 children, Vincent (Ann Schwarz) Rix, of Grand Ridge, Michael Rix, of Ottawa, Connie (Gerald) Homann, of Marseilles and Dewayne Sampson, of Ottawa, 15 grandchilden, 2 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Kevin (Cindy) Sampson, of Ottawa and Allen Sampson, of LaSalle-Peru and 4 sisters, Debbie (Thomas) Graham, of Ottawa, Becky (Steve) Wagner, of Ottawa, Cassie Sampson, of Alaska and Tammy Sampson, of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his father, his step father, Frank Greene and his grandparents.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Norma J. Garcia
November 19, 1931 - April 26, 2013

Norma J. Garcia, 81, of Oglesby, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 26, 2013.

Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Monday, April 29 at the First Baptist Church in Oglesby with the Dr. Karl Fivek, officiating. Arrangements are through the Prey-Mueller Funeral Home in Oglesby.

She was born November 19, 1931 in Oglesby, to Michael and Pearl (Weger) Picco. She married Robert Sokoloski of Jonesville in October 1949. He passed away December 31, 1974.

She is survived by six children, Jill (Anthony) Petrusha, Susie (Gerald) Finneran, Laurie Deubler, Robin Pearson, Sandy (Dwight) Lee and Robert Sokoloski; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sheri (Ronald) Leonetti and Roseann (Joseph) Rossi; two brothers, Michael (Henrietta) Picco and Alan (Pat) Picco; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband and three children, Michael, Robert and Peggy.

Elizabeth M. Rochnowski
May 30, 1923 - April 26, 2013

Mrs. Elizabeth 'Betty' M. (Kurtenbach) Rochnowski, 89, of Peru, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013 at IVCH in Peru.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Church, Peru with Rev. Harold Datzman, OSB officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s cemetery, Webster Park. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home in Peru.

Mrs. Rochnowksi was born on May 30, 1923 in Peru to Peter and Theresa (Wegmann) Kurtenbach. She married Floyd Rochnowski on November 24, 1945 in St. Joseph’s Church, Peru. Betty worked at Alden’s Catalog in LaSalle and then Montgomery Ward in Peru until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Peru and St. Joseph’s Mother’s Club.

The family would like to thank her caregivers of the last six months Vira and Tito Franchetto.

She is survived by three daughters, Mary Ann (Ronald) Yanke of Davenport, Joan Nicholson of Peru, friend Bill Jaegle of Tonica and Donna Rochnowski of Peru; four grandchildren, Tammy Swift, Richard Claiborne, Dagny Eustice, and Tamara Smith; three great-grandchildren, Madison, Rose, and Hanna; one brother, Joe Kurtenbach of Peru; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Rochnowski on January 28, 2004; two brothers, Aloysius and Henry Kurtenbach; and three sisters, Sister Theresa Clare Kurtenbach, Ethel Bucholz, and Florence Kurtenbach.

Memorial contributions may be directed to family for a memorial to be established at a later date.

Rita Kamnikar
August 22, 1923 - April 22, 2013

Rita D. Kamnikar, 89, of Oglesby, passed away April 22, 2013 at the Ottawa Pavilion.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 10 at Holy Family Church in Oglesby with the Rev. Gary Blake, officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Prey-Mueller Funeral Home in Oglesby. Prayer service will be at 10:30 a.m. Cremation rites will be accorded.

Rita was born August 22, 1923 in LaSalle. She married William Kamnikar on July 14, 1956 in Holy Family Church, Oglesby. She graduated from L-P High School. She was a member of the Holy Family Parish and the Daughters of Isabella. She worked at Westclox, Dr. Vincent Piscitelli, Louis Zamin Insurance, First Federal Savings and ran The Town and Country Dress Shop in Oglesby. She was part owner of the Fireside Restaurant in Oglesby. She was well known for her love of Italy where she still has many living cousins. She organized and took many groups on tours of Italy through the latter years of her life.

She is survived by six nieces and nephews, Julie (Bob) Harback, Rose (Ryan) Bell, Kay (Thomas) Russo, Andrew (Patti) Kamnikar, Stephen (Terry) Kamnikar and James (Carol) Krancic; nine great- nieces and nephews and eight great-great- nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William, on November 5, 1986; one sister, Eva Krancic and one niece, Karen (Krancic) Byrne.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Kamnikar, Stephen Kamnikar, Jason Mathey, Jared Mathey, Sarah Eva Monroe and Megan Krancic.

Memorials may be directed to Holy Family School.

Joseph J Bayer
July 8, 1936 - April 24, 2013

Joseph 'Hap' Bayer, 76, of Ottawa, died Wednesday morning, April 24, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26, in the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa, with the Rev. David Davies, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the services. Burial will be private.

'Hap' was born on July 8, 1936, in Ottawa, to Chris and Mabel (Cavanaugh) Bayer. He was employed at L.O.F. for 43 years, retiring in 1996. He married Diann White Standard on May 12, 1990, in the Reddick Mansion in Ottawa. He was a member of the Ottawa River Rescue Squad, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 960, and played softball in the Ottawa Area for 60 years. He was the maker of Hap Bayer’s Famous Salsa.

He is survived by his wife, Diann, two daughters, Cindy (Scott) Rogers, of Batavia, and Karen (Dan) Crampton, of Streator, one son, Joe Bayer of Long Island, NY, two step-daughters, Jean Standard, of Minonk, and Rebecca Standard, of Champaign, eight grandchildren: Kim Couch, Matthew Clemens, Kelli Crampton, Jamie Sullivan, Madison Bayer, Stephanie, Colby, and Matthew Rogers; four great-grandchildren, and one sister, Betty Lieske, of Ottawa.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Darlene, four sisters, Gloria Jones, Gert Varney, Janice West, and Donna Conlin, and one brother Jerry Bayer.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Donald L. Newburn
July 8, 1937 - April 19, 2013

Mr. Donald L. Newburn, 75, of Peru, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013 at Manor Court of Peru.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Mueller Funeral Home in Peru followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Valentine’s Church, Peru with Rev. William Gardner, pastor officiating. Burial will follow at Peru City cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Peru Veteran’s Memorial Group. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with recital of the rosary at 7 p.m. with the Knights of Columbus in attendance.

Mr. Newburn was born on July 8, 1937 in Granville to David and Anna Mae (McCassin) Newburn. He married Patricia Fransen on January 15, 1983 at St. Valentine’s Church in Peru. She passed away on November 18, 2003. He then married Toma Stowe on May 12, 2007 at Tiskilwa Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran serving in Korea. Don graduated from L-P High School in 1957 and from DeVry University. He worked for Sigmund Electric in Peru, Television Transmission Company, United Cable in Peru, and St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley. He was a member of St. Valentine’s Church in Peru, 4th Degree member of LaSalle Knights of Columbus for more than 54 years, LaSalle VFW, American Legion in Spring Valley, Barber Shop Quartet in Princeton, and was a Ham Radio Operator K9TWZ.

Donald was raised by his aunt Irene Hoerner.

He is survived by his wife, Toma of Peru; two brothers, Jim (Dorothy) Newburn of Altamont, IL and David (Ruth) Newburn of Bureau; one step-son, Troy (Amy) Galetti of Joliet; one step-daughter, Jill Stowe of Moline; three grandchildren, Zoey, Paige, and Adam Galetti; one cousin, LaVerne Clinch of Phoenix, AZ; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; foster mother Irene Hoerner; his first wife, Patricia; two brothers, Perry and Paul Newburn; three cousins, Ione Klein, Doris Pool, and Honorable John Clinch.
