Dorothy Dougherty
February 11, 1929 - April 19, 2013

Dorothy Dougherty, 84, of Deer Park Township, died Friday evening, April 19, 2013, at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, in St. Columba Church, with the Rev. David Kipfer, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Columba cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa from 5 to 8 p.m. with the Rosary Recited at 4:30 p.m.

Mrs. Dougherty was born on February 11, 1929 in Streator to Michael and Susan (Pouk) Yendro. She was a graduate of St. Stephen Grade School and attended Streator High School. She married John W. 'Jack' Dougherty on July 17, 1954, at St. Stephen’s Church in Streator. She worked at Owens-Illinois Glass in Streator and then for Drs. Loomis and Novak Veterinary Clinic from 1969 to 2011. She was a member of St. Columba Church in Ottawa.

She is survived by a daughter Deborah (Dan) Ellefson, of Sun Prairie, WI, 2 sons, Jack (Tammy) Dougherty, of Aurora and Shaun (Christina) Dougherty, of Ottawa, 5 grandchildren, Brandon Ellefson and Brenna, Connor, Delaney and Shea Dougherty, a brother, Edwin Yendro, of Streator and 2 sister in laws, Diane McMahon and Patricia Dougherty.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, on Nov. 9, 2000, a grandson, Dylan Ellefson, 3 sisters, Mary, Margaret and Anna and a brother Albert Yendro.

Benoit Charles Hallett
August 19, 1926 - April 19, 2013

Benoit Charles Hallett, 86, of Ottawa, formerly of Seneca, died Friday morning, April 19, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 22, in the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa. Burial will be in St. Patrick cemetery in Ransom. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the services at the funeral home
.
Mr. Hallett was born on August 19, 1926, in Streator to George and Myrtle (Chalus) Hallett. He was a life-long farmer. He married Margery Thompson on January 15, 1947, at St. Patrick Rectory in Ransom. He was a member of the LaSalle County Farm Bureau, and Teamsters Local 722.

He is survived by his wife, Margery, two daughters, Linda (Greg) Thorson, of Seneca, and Jayne (Bruce) Peterson, of Seneca, 5 grandchildren: Scott (Amy) Thorson, of Morris, Alan (Chandra) Thorson, of Morris, Melissa (Matt) Andreatta, of Seneca, Clint Peterson, of Seneca, and Kelsey Peterson, of Marseilles; 7 great-grandchildren: Alexa, Paige, Brooke, Brynne, Cara, Emma, and Max, 1 brother, Melvin (Barbara) Hallett, and 2 sisters-in-law, Rita Hallett, of Ottawa, and Dolores Thompson, of Streator.

Mr. Hallett was preceded in death by two sons, Gary and Jeff, a great-granddaughter, Alayna Thorson, two brothers, Hubert and Willis Hallett, and three sisters: Edna Walter, Della Finch, and Marilyn Bunn.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Pallbearers will be: Scott and Alan Thorson, Clint Peterson, Matt Andreatta, Darrin Tomano, and John Bunn.

Mary R. Kwit
August 15, 1919 - April 17, 2013

Mrs. Mary R. (Suarez) Kwit, 93, of Webster Park, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at IVCH Hospital in Peru.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Church in Peru with Rev. Harold Datzman, OSB officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Park in Spring Valley. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home in Peru.

Mrs. Kwit was born on August 15, 1919 in Canton, OH to Olegario and Maria (Diaz) Suarez, Sr. She married Stanley Kwit on December 28, 1938 at St. Mary’s Church in DePue. She worked at Westclox, Bassick’s, and retired from Ace Hardware in Oak Forrest. She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary in DePue.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol (Sol) Padilla of Peru and Mary Ellen (Robert) Mezydlo of Frankfort, IL; two sons, Ricky (Mary Jo) Kwit of Peru and Kenneth (Arlene) Kwit of LaSalle; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley; two sisters, Louise Corpus and Gloria Cady; four brothers, Manual 'Keke' Suarez, Joseph 'Pepe' Suarez, Olegario 'Babe' Suarez, Jr., and Angel Suarez.

Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, Michael Boland, Alex and Austin Schwab, Nicholas Buseski, and Noah Lamboley.

Memorial contributions may be directed to IVCH Hospice.

Martha M. Kirchner
JUNE 24, 1922 - APRIL 15, 2013

Martha M. Kirchner, 90, of Ottawa, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 15, 2013 at Pleasant View Lutheran Home, following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Faith Lutheran Church with fellowship to follow. Arrangements are through Mueller Funeral Home.

Martha was born on June 24, 1922 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Earl and Opal (Misbach) Elliott.

She married Miles F. Kirchner on December 10, 1942 in Missouri. Miles died in 1999 at the age of 99. They celebrated 56 years of marriage together.

A lifelong scholar, Martha graduated in 1940 with honors from Roosevelt High School, in Cedar Rapids. In 1966, she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids. A Phi Beta Kappa member at Coe College, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for postgraduate study in German at Phillips University in Marburg, Germany. In 1973, she was awarded a Master’s Degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. Martha taught German for over 15 years at Ottawa Township High School and often led student trips to Germany. She retired in 1982. Martha was a devoted Christian and bible study member at Faith Lutheran Church. She was a lifetime member of the Illinois State Education Association and the National Education Association. She was a 2000 hour volunteer at Ottawa Community Hospital, knitting instructor, AARP financial consultant, member of AAUW, and the Ottawa Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband Miles, and brothers Robert, George and Jack.

Martha is survived by son Robert L. (Jane) Kirchner, and grandson Michael of Council Bluffs, IA, and son Kevin 'Sandy' (Holly) Kirchner of Ladd, sister-in-law Jean Elliott of Cedar Rapids, IA, nieces Sheryl Neal of Williamsburg, IA, and Linda (Dave) Jandik, of Cedar Rapids, and Toni (Jim) Pickering, of Cedar Rapids and many grand nieces and nephews. Martha was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.

Steve Pattelli
May 10, 1917 - April 16, 2013

Mr. Steve Pattelli, 95, of LaSalle, formerly of Peru, passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 16, 2013 at the LaSalle Veteran’s Home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Mueller-Pagani Funeral Home in LaSalle followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in the Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, LaSalle with Rev. Antonio Dittmer, pastor of LaSalle Catholic Parishes officiating. Full military rites will be conducted following the mass by the LaSalle-Oglesby Veteran’s Memorial Group. Burial will be private in Ladd cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Pattelli was born on May 10, 1917 in LaSalle to Alexandro and Olivia (Bergagna) Pattelli. He married Mary Marconi September 1, 1945 at Holy Trinity Church in Cherry. He retired from Westclox in Peru after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in LaSalle, LaSalle VFW, and Peru Eagles Club. Steve served in the Army-Air Force during WWII and was a POW in Germany. Mr. Pattelli along with his brothers helped build the Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in LaSalle.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Pattelli of Peru; two daughters, Olivia (Richard) Karun of LaSalle and Fran (Jim) Loger of LaSalle; 2 grandsons; and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Primo, Quinto, Carl, and Emil Pattelli.

Pallbearers will be Eugene Pattelli, Frank Pattelli, Jerry Pattelli, Alex Pattelli, Jim Pattelli, and John Marconi.

Curtis Lee Sanders
April 2, 1926 - April 11, 2013

Curtis Lee Sanders, 87, of Hamilton, formerly of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Birchwood Care Center.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Johnson, Pastor. Burial will be at Ottawa Avenue cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are through Mueller Funeral Home.

Curtis was born on April 2, 1926 in Lochapoka, AL to John and Nettie (Aldrich) Sanders. He married Barbara Johnson on July 31, 1982 in Ottawa. Curtis was employed at Crouse Hinds for 30 years, and also worked 10 years at the Syracuse Foundry. Curtis was a hard worker, enjoyed hunting and was a deacon in the Baptist church. He was a member of the Freemasons, and was a kind person, willing to help anyone in their time of need. Curtis was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Ottawa.

He is survived by his wife Barbara; 6 daughters, Barbra Boatwright, Jeanette Sanders, Priscilla Sanders, Sandra (Randy) Hudson, Abigail (Dwayne) Boyd and Desiree Sanders; step daughters, Deborah Jones, Rhonda Warner, Adrena Phillips, Kim Johnson and Lashawn (Elliot) Hill; a step son, Ralph (Barbara) Johnson; brother, Howard (Fannie) Sanders; 6 sisters’ Bernice (Ernest) Wynn, Rebennie (Major) Wilson Johnie Mae (Jenkins) Yancy, Emma Crowder, Leona (Henry) Collins and Doris Wagner and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Christopher Sanders, a daughter, Brendalon Day 2 brothers’ Cleveland and Sylvester Sanders, 3 sisters, Rose Dowdell, Mae Stell McCurty and Annie Ruth Bradford and the mother of his children, Elease Sanders.

Anthony Michelini
April 19, 1963 - April 15, 2013

Tony Michelini, 49, of Deer Park Township, passed away peacefully Monday morning, April 15, 2013, surrounded by loved ones, after a prolonged illness April 15, 2013 at his home. Arrangements are through Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa.

At his request, no services will be held. His cremated remains will be scattered in a private family service. He lived his life on his own terms until the very end. Our hearts are terribly saddened today as we grieve our loss, but we look to the future with anticipation of meeting again in heavenly places.

Tony was born on April 19, 1963, in Ottawa, to Louis and Judith (Sutton) Michelini. He grew up on a farm in Deer Park Township and his fondest childhood memory was showing pigs during the summer at 4-H fairs. Tony graduated from Ottawa Township High School in 1981 and initially went to study architecture at the University of Illinois, ultimately graduating from George Washington University in 1986 with a BBA in finance. Tony began his career in Washington D.C., where he lived for 12 years, starting as a commercial banker and later becoming an auditor for the Student Loan Marketing Association (Sallie Mae) . In this position he traveled extensively and enjoyed seeing the country. When he was tired of traveling he relocated to San Francisco in 1995, and worked for Catholic Charities for 15 years, serving as comptroller most of the time.

Tony can best be described as selfless, generous, kind and loving. He was intelligent, independent, responsible and loved to laugh.

Tony maintained dual residency between San Francisco and Illinois since 2005 and enjoyed reconnecting with his extended family members. Many of his cousins became very dear to him and he considered them like brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his brother Randy (Kim) Michelini and his niece and nephew, Danyelle and Ryan (Sarah) Michelini; a great niece, Leah Mae and many loving and dear cousins and extended family and friends.

Patricia Marie Balconi
March 18, 1944 - April 13, 2013

Patricia Marie (Rinaldi) Balconi, 69, of Peru, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Her family was by her side as she went to be with the Lord.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Church in Peru with Rev. Harold Datzman, OSB officiating. Burial will follow in St. Vincent’s cemetery in LaSalle. Visitation will be 9:00 AM-12:00 Noon on Wednesday in the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mueller Funeral Home in Peru.

Mrs. Balconi was born March 18, 1944 in Naplate to Joseph and Mary (Sipula) Rinaldi. She graduated from Ottawa High School and then earned her degree from Moser Secretarial School in Chicago. She married the love of her life, Arthur Balconi on June 17, 1967 in Naplate. Together they owned and operated Balconi’s Tavern in Oglesby until recently retiring on October 26, 2010.

Patricia will forever be remembered by her loving husband, Arthur; her three children who adored her, Robert (Jody) Balconi, Diane (Bradley) Harrison and Carol Balconi and her treasured grandchildren, Samantha, Adrian, Drake, Skyler and Tristan.

Patricia loved being a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Peru, was a great and avid golfer and member at Edgewood Park Golf Course for 19 years and loved playing cards with family and friends. Most of all, she treasured her precious time with her family. Patricia touched the lives of many people with her infectious smile and unconditional love to her family and countless friends.

Of her accomplishments in life, Patricia’s greatest achievements have been in the lives of her family and friends as being an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She had a unique gift to find only good qualities in others and make everyone feel loved she came in contact with. She had a beautiful, generous and non-judgemental heart that allowed her constantly to put others before herself. This was shown even by frequent conversations with total strangers.

Patricia instilled in her children to 'live life to its fullest and that God gave us all the gift of life, but what you do with that life is all that matters.' Her generous heart filled her home with family, friends, love and fun. This beautiful woman, inside and out, will be missed by everyone who knew her and her signature gift of selflessness will never be forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, father and brother, Joseph Rinaldi.

Pallbearers will be her three children; son-in-law; grandson, Drake Bruhns and special friend, who’s like a daughter, Penny Derick.

Memorial donations may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.

DORIS TALBOT
October 21, 1927 - April 12, 2013

Doris (Potthoff) Talbot, 85, of Woodbridge, VA, formerly of Peru, passed away Friday, April 12, 2013 at Emeritus Assisted Living in Woodbridge.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Mueller Funeral Home in Peru with Rev. Kay Harding, pastor of Zion United Church of Christ in Peru officiating. Burial will follow in Peru City cemetery. Visitation will be 9-11:00 AM Saturday in the funeral home.

Mrs. Talbot was born October 21, 1927 in Peru to John and Henrietta (Beutler) Potthoff. She married William R. Talbot on September 17, 1950 at Zion United Church of Christ in Peru.

Mrs. Talbot was a graduate of LaSalle-Peru High School, was a homemaker and worked for the News Tribune for over 25 years. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Peru where she served as a Sunday School teacher. Along with her husband, she was active in Scouting and in Boy Scout Troop 11 in Peru. She was the caretaker for her brother for 12 years when he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

Survivors include her sons, Lt. Col. John Talbot and his wife, Betsy of Indianapolis, IN and Hon. Gary Talbot and his wife, Maureen who was Doris’ caretaker, of Woodbridge, VA; six grandchildren, Andrew, Patrick and Karen Talbot and Nicholas, William and Laura Talbot and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William on December 26, 1979; her brothers, Ralph, Herman, Phillip, Robert, Leroy and Walter Potthoff and two in infancy and her sister, Sally Hall.

Memorial donations may be directed to Zion United Church of Christ in Peru.
