James Humphrey
Humphrey, James Gilbert Born in Evanston, IL on June 14, 1951 died peacefully on July 1, 2011 at 60 years old. Jim moved to Boulder, CO in 1973, and was a wonderful father to his daughters Melissa (A) Yang, and Liz (Vinay) Xiong; and grandfather to Taylor, Dominic, Cameron, Xja, Miles, and Maly. He was married to Jean Perkins for 10 years, and a loving companion to Patricia Thalwitzer for 18 years. Jim enjoyed being in the mountains, golfing, jazz, and CU Buffs football and especially spending time with family and friends. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor, and his very big heart. He will be greatly missed. A celebration of his life will be held at Sunrise Amphitheater on Flagstaff Mountain at 3:30 Wednesday, July 6, with Chaplain Mary Dobbs officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. James S. Winn Jr.
Winn Jr., James S. 70, of Tucson, AZ, formerly Winnetka, IL, died Monday, December 10, 2012. He was born in New York City, NY, the son of James S. and Hazel (Nelson) Winn. He graduated from The Hill School, Cornell University and Stanford University Graduate School of Business. In college he was a member of Delta Phi fraternity. Jim was a wartime veteran, serving in Korea and Vietnam, 1964-1967, achieving the rank of Captain, U. S. Army, Artillery. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his service. He married Bonnie Lou Hicks, of Henrietta, MO in 1969 in Palo Alto, CA. Jim spent his entire career at First National Bank of Chicago, joining the bank on July 5, 1970 and retiring as Senior Credit Officer in 1998. His community activities included Director, CFO, Westside Habitat for Humanity; Director, CFO, Breaking Ground, Inc.; and Chair, New Trier Citizens League. Jim enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, traveling, reading, art and music, photography, golf, and sharing his love of astronomy with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son, James Gregory Winn (Colleen Swift) of Minneapolis, MN; daughter, Alison Winn Floyd (Nathan) of San Francisco, CA; his two grandsons, Alex Winn and Charlie Floyd; sister, Barbara Meador (James) of Winnetka, IL and their children, Sarah and Andrew. Services will be held Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church, Tucson, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church for the benefit of the St. Philip's Food Pantry, PO Box 65840, Tucson, AZ 85728-5840 or to the Prostate Cancer Foundation (www.pcf.org).

Janice Brannen
Brannen, Janice Elsdon Guthridge Age 94, died peacefully in her sleep the morning of December 31, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kenneth Brannen and her daughter, Jennifer Brannen Henriksson. Janice is survived by her son and his wife George and Carolyn Brannen; sisters, Cythera Moyer, Wisconsin, Fran Daniels, Ohio, and Genevieve Littell, Oregon; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Jay Corbett
Corbett, Jay Rawling Formerly of Evanston, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012 in Sarasota, FL. He was 89. Jay graduated from Carnegie-Mellon with two degrees, served as First Lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers during WWII, spent four years as a Special Agent with the FBI, enjoyed a successful career in sales and management for three different companies in Chicago, earned an MBA from the University of Chicago and was past-president of the Board of Directors of the former Mary Thompson Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara; daughters, Jane McCormack (Robert), Emily (Allan Allweiss), and Sarah; granddaughters Kelly Hererra (George), Alexandra Allweiss and Samantha Allweiss; great-grandson, Daniel Hererra; sister-in-law Kathryn Donovan (David); his nephews; great-niece and great-nephews. Memorial services are pending. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Sarasota Music Ministry

Jeanne Graham
Graham, Jeanne Jensen Age 89, of Northbrook, IL, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Whitehall Healthcare Center in Deerfield, IL. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald W. Graham, Sr.; her daughter, Marcia Graham Nellessen; and her parents, Holger Jensen and Elizabeth Jensen of Evanston, IL. She is survived by her son, Donald W. Graham, Jr. of Sevierville, TN; grandsons, Mike Murtz of Mundelein, IL and Scott Murtz of Onalaska, WI; and great-grandchildren, Tiffany Murtz, Tianna Murtz, Taelynn Murtz, Michael Murtz, Benjamin Murtz and Nicholas Murtz. Jeanne Griffith
Griffith, Jeanne, 87, gently passed away at home in the loving embrace of her husband Hal, daughter Tristan, and son-in-law Amadeus. She left this world as she lived her life, with extraordinary grace. After her earlier career as a medical illustrator and art editor, she dedicated her life to her husband, family, the community, nature and the environment. She nurtured and encouraged young and old by demonstrating the true meaning of unconditional love. Her quick wit and sly smile kept us in stitches, while her love, beauty, elegance and strength kept our hearts warm and safe. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 64 years, Dr. B.H. Griffith, Tristan and Amadeus, (daughter and son-in-law), Susan, (daughter), a granddaughter and great-grandson. She will be greatly missed by us and our dear circle of loving friends. In lieu of flowers, please donate your time or money to your favorite animal welfare or nature charity. A memorial gathering will be held in the springtime at St. Mark's Church in Evanston. Joan Wilson
Wilson, Joan Of Evanston, age 81, died peacefully and surrounded by family at 12:20 PM on December 29, 2011. She is survived by her beloved husband Tyler, her brother Ashley (Kennedy III), and her four children, Mathew, Sarah (Dominiak), Berry (Stevens III), and Mary Ann (Huppert). She was the proud grandmother of Wyatt Huppert, Max Huppert, and Laura Hammani, and the great-grandmother of Amir Hammani. Joan is remembered by all who knew her for her deep love of traditional music. She was a co-founder of Hogeye music store in Evanston, and for many years was a driving force behind the Hogeye Folk Arts concert series. Joan was also heavily involved in civil rights activism. She fought for housing equality as part of the North Shore Summer Project, and was a founding member of the Evanston Free School in the early 1970s. In addition, Joan was an avid backpacker who was particularly enamored with the Wyoming and Montana wilderness. A concert is currently being planned to honor Joan's memory. Details will be posted to her memorial web site (www.joanwilsonmemorial.info) as soon as they are available. All those who wish to celebrate her life are encouraged to attend.

Joseph Soprani
Soprani, Joseph Dante 86, resident of Deerfield for 57 years, WWII Veteran, passed away January 11, 2012. Joe was employed as a sheet metal worker and superintendent for 25 years at William L. Wente Company in Winnetka, IL and started his own business, Superior Sheet Metal & Heating Inc. in 1969 in Lake Bluff, IL. Beloved husband of Kathleen; loving father of Joseph L. (Tami) and Jeffrey L. (Karen); cherished grandfather of Sophia, Lauren (Matthew) Peterson and Paul; dear uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Joan Soprani, Lydia (Bud) Milani and Laura (Paul) Svendsen and brother Edsel Soprani. Services were held Monday, January 16, 2012 at Holy Cross Church, Deerfield, IL 60015. Entombment Ascension cemetery, Libertyville, IL. Katherine Ingwersen
Ingwersen, Katherine (Katie) Fairchild 50, died at her home in Alexandria, VA, on December 29 after living with cancer for six years. Katie taught English and Journalism at Fairfax County Public Schools. She strived to provide better opportunities for her students first at Annandale High School, where she began teaching in 1999, and most recently at Falls Church High School. Through her work, she secured support for Falls Church High School journalism education from the George Washington University Prime Movers Media Program, pairing professional journalists with high school journalism students. In addition, she was instrumental in bringing the Cappies, a national student theater review program, to Annandale High School. To incorporate innovative approaches to teaching, Katie spent her summers studying, including attending the Exeter Humanities Institute, the Northern Virginia Writing Project, and the Dickens Project at the University of California Santa Cruz. Katie earned board certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in 2005, and regularly assisted candidates from local schools for certification by the board, including applicants from T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, VA, which both her daughters attended. Katie mentored student teachers from George Washington University and Korea University. A lifelong volunteer, Katie served as an advisory board member for Chicago vocational training program Project Skill, was co-president of the Charles Barrett PTA in Alexandria, and assisted in her daughters' elementary school classrooms. Katie was a member of the Fairfax Education Association, the Journalism Education Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Katie was born in Evanston, IL, and raised in Winnetka, IL. She graduated from New Trier (West) High School in Northfield, IL, where she was active in theater and track. She earned a bachelor's degree in English from Grinnell College, a master's degree in public administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and completed her teacher licensure at Marymount University in Arlington, VA. Katie was an avid reader and writer who loved to travel with her family. A teaching colleague wrote that "her warm spirit, generosity, and passion for literature endeared her to all of us...I think Katie intuitively knew that what matters to students is that they feel loved- and that came naturally for her." Katie is survived by her husband of 26 years, Fred Underwood; daughters, Madeline and Amelia; parents, Gordon and Mary Lou Ingwersen; and sisters, Siri Holmes and Julie Ingwersen.

Louise S. Morris
Morris, Louise Spaeth 1921-2012. A teacher, administrator, and volunteer, Louise Spaeth Morris, 91, died December 27 at Presbyterian Homes in Evanston. She grew up in Ada, MN, her mother's hometown, where her father assisted her maternal grandfather in managing his banking, farming, and real estate investments. Later when her father became state commissioner of taxation under Governor Harold Stassen, her parents moved to St. Paul. She attended Carleton College and the University of Minnesota and, after earning a B.S. in education, taught high school history and social studies in Nebraska and Minnesota during World War II. She returned to the U of M to earn a master's degree in public administration after which she served on the field staff of the Minnesota Historical Society until her marriage to Robert B. Morris in 1948. She and Bob lived near the University of Chicago where she was administrative assistant to the chairman of the University's Department of Education until they moved to Glencoe where they lived for 55 years and where her husband was village manager for 32 years. She was a member of the Glencoe PTA, Girl Scouts, Infant Welfare, and League of Women Voters. At the Glencoe Union Church she taught Sunday school, was president of the Woman's Guild, and served on the Church Prudential Board. Also she was a member of the Woman's Library Club of Glencoe for more than 50 years and a member of Sherry Literary book club. In 1970 she joined the Woman's Board of the Presbyterian Home in Evanston and contributed 7, 600 hours to the Home's beneficent service during her 42 years as a member of the Board. She was president of the Woman's Board for two terms and chaired the audit, social services, infirmary, and Ravinia benefit committees. She also served two terms on the Home's Board of Directors. In 2012 the Woman's Board honored her with emeritus standing "in recognition of her faithful service." Among her greatest legacies at the Home was the Chaplain Intern Program that was established in 1983. The Woman's Board later recognized her vision, efforts, and leadership by naming the program the "Louise Morris Chaplain Intern Program" and dedicating its ongoing gifts to the program in her honor. More than 125 interns have participated in the program in the past 30 years. With her siblings she has been involved in managing the Minnesota and North Dakota farm properties that her grandfather had acquired as far back as the 1880's. She traveled extensively with her husband in the U.S., Europe, Canada, and Australia/New Zealand, and for many years spent time in the winter in Arizona with her two children and grandchildren. Her family and friends described her as generous, optimistic, level-headed, interested in others, and a devoted worker in her church and community. She was preceded in death by her parents, G. Howard and Lucile Hanson Spaeth; her son, Paul; her sisters, Jo Ann Miller, Marietta Scherer, Sandra Willis; her brother, Gerard, and her granddaughter, Elisabeth Schultz. She is survived by her husband and three children, Sandra L. Morris (Greg Gable) of Lititz, PA, Rolf B. Morris of Boulder, CO, Jane L. Morris (Bryan Raines) of Mesa, AZ; three grandchildren, (Sarah Gibbons, Ridley Park, PA, Carter Raines of Billings, MT, and Emily Raines of Mesa, AZ; and one great-granddaughter, (Maia Gibbons). Memorial services will be held at Elliott Chapel, 3131 Simpson St. (Golf Road), Evanston, IL at a later date, with interment in the Glencoe Union Church memorial garden, 263 Park Avenue, Glencoe. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Woman's Board of Presbyterian Homes or Geneva Foundation's New Hope Scholarship Fund, 3200 Grant St., Evanston, IL 60201.

Martha (Litchfield) Klein
Klein, Martha D. (nee Litchfield) July 13, 1920-December 29, 2012, of Evanston, IL died Saturday morning at Evanston Hospital. She was born and raised in Waukegan, married Lt. Col. Albert Klein also of Waukegan. She volunteered at hospitals in Waukegan and Colorado Springs and her church, and helped raise a family in the Philippines. She traveled the world extensively after retiring in 1977 as a McDonalds operator in Florida. She never complained or criticized, had a strong sense of duty, was loved dearly by her family and her caregivers and will be missed. She is survived by her two sons, Mark A. Klein and Carter H. Klein and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life was held for family and caregivers at the Scott Funeral Home in Wilmette, IL on Saturday, January 5, 2012.

Mary A. "Mimi" (Scanlon) Ryan
Ryan, Mary A. "Mimi" (nee Scanlon) Died January 1, 2013 in Evanston Hospital. Mimi was born May 11, 1935 in Chicago to William A. Scanlon and Helen nee Byrne. Mimi was raised in River Forest where she made many lifelong friends at Trinity High School in River Forest, IL, Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, IN and Rosary College, River Forest, IL. She also collected many friends over the past 53 years at her parish, Saint Francis Xavier Church in Wilmette. From 1976 through 1978 Mimi was very active with the League of Women's Voters, she was very involved and pushed for term limits and expansion of Park Commissioners. Mimi was inspired to run for the Park Board and served as the Park Board Commissioner from 1979 to 1983. From 1983 to 1991 Mimi served as a Village Trustee. In 1989 she was the force and leader behind the hand gun control issue in Wilmette that was passed. She was a champion of introducing group homes into Wilmette. Mimi was always on the caring side of the issue. In 1990 Mimi was named Wilmette's first ever Citizen of the Year. Mimi was very active at Saint Francis Xavier Church as well, where she started the Women's Club, was one of the founding members of the "Gym Mass", had served as Parish Council President, and was active with interfaith community. Mimi was the loving wife of John P. Ryan; cherished mother of William R. (Mary), Mary T. (Chris) Karges, Catherine M. (Tom) Quillin and Michael G. (Pamela); proud grandmother of Kevin, Lillian, Michael, Angela, Catherine, Molly, Will, Joseph, Jack, Declan and Sarah; dear sister and best friend for life of William A, M.D. (Lou) Scanlon, she is also survived by many nieces and nephews and knew each one as an individual. As the family continued to grow, so did her love and her love of gathering family. A Funeral mass was held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Francis Xavier Church, 9th St, and Linden Ave, Wilmette, IL 60091. Interment was in All Saints cemetery, Des Plaines, IL. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the MDS Foundation 4573 South Broad St. Suite 150 Yardville, NJ 08620.

Mary "Buzzy" Marguerite
Marguerite, Mary Katherine "Buzzy" (nee Marshall) 81, of Wilmette. Beloved wife of the late Jack Marguerite; loving step-mother of John (Barbara) Marguerite; proud step-grandmother of Lila and Maeve. Dear sister of Ann M. (the late Louis) Mahoney; caring aunt and great aunt of many.
