Grotts, Geraldine (Gerry), [assed away peacefully at home on March 14, 2012, with her four children gathered around her. Gerry was born in Fitchburg Township, Dane County, Wisconsin, on May 2, 1926, to Nathan York and Mary Theresa (White) Keenan. preceded in death by husband, Dr. John Grotts, and sister Dorothy Keenan. Survived by brothers Robert Keenan (Janet) and Paul Keenan (Lois) of Oregon, Wis., sister Helen Senger of East Grand Forks, Minn., and sister Louise Stankevich of Madison, Wis. Children are Jim Grotts of Lake Forest, Ill., Bob Grotts of La Crosse, Wis., Bill Grotts of Kansas City, Mo., and Patty Grotts Kelly (Dan) of Hopkins, Minn. Grandchildren are John Robert Grotts, Amy Grotts Steffen (Robert), Laura Gray Kelly, and Rose Maureen Kelly. Before starting her family, Gerry worked as an x-ray technician at Evanston Hospital. She lived in Lake Forest for more than 50 years, caring for her family and volunteering at school, as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, and for St. Patrick Church, where she led the sewing group for many years. A talented quilter, she created many beautiful quilts for her family and friends. Gerry lived an energetic and productive life, even after a difficult year of treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2009. She had many friends from many different circles, including P.E.O., St. Patrick’s Church, the Deerpath Women’s Golf League, and her bowling group. Gerry loved her family, golf, gardening, sewing, traveling, her cats and dogs, and being on-the-go at all times. She was a great Mom, Grandma, and friend, and her lively, loving spirit will be part of us forever. Memorials to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society preferred (www.lls.org; 888-557-7177). Dennis H. Bauman, 79, of Lake Forest, IL and Mequon, WI, died March 15, 2012. Dennis was a language educator at The University School of Milwaukee for 30 years as well as at Lake Forest Academy. He graduated from North Central College in Naperville, IL and received his master’s degree from the University of Michigan. Later in life he pursued further education at both Oxford and Cambridge Universities in the U.K.. Husband of Jean nee Ranson; father of Kenneth, the late Thomas (1992), Julie (Gary) Gianni & Heidi Bauman; grandfather of Adam, Cassandra & Kelsey Bauman and Nicole & Gina Gianni; brother of the late Stanley, the late Helene Hardy, the late Melvin and Arthur Bauman; son of the late Arthur & the late Lillian nee Voss. Thomas Doyle Hoyt, DDS, 85 of Lake Bluff, IL formerly of Evanston, graduate of New Trier HS (1944), honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy Medical Corp and graduate of Grinnell College and Loyola Dental School passed away on March 21, 2012. Although trained to follow in his father's footsteps as a dentist, Tom Hoyt found his business passion as publishing entrepreneur. In an amazing career that spanned forty-five years he developed a highly successful family of dental publications which were sold in 1990. In his next venture Tom joined his son Peter and played a crucial role as an adviser and the treasurer of Hoyt Publishing Company, which is now known as The Path to Purchase Institute. Tom was an accomplished runner, skier and fisherman. He was the beloved husband of Frederica (nee Fairman)"Freddie", father of six, Joshua (Joanna Brown), Amy Knowlton (Jim), Darcy, Peter (Peggy), Phoebe Volla (Guido), Nathaniel (Amy); stepfather to Samantha Davie (Barrett) and John Marshall (Kalie). Tom was also the proud grandfather of seventeen. No visitation. Interment Private. Bernhard Charles Tjarksen, 83 of Lake Bluff, formerly of Waukegan, died March 22, 2012. Bernhard served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1954. He was a 1951 graduate of the University of Illinois where he received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering then continued on to receive his M.S. in Chemistry from Bradley University in 1958. He worked as a Chemical Engineer for Abbott Laboratories from 1953-1991. Bernhard was an active runner, cross country skier, bicyclist, backpacker and an avid traveler. Mary Kay Tschanz, 60, passed into Eternal Life on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 after a two year struggle with ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease. She dedicated almost 35 years of her life to the mission of Catholic Education by serving as principal of St. James School in Highwood, Illinois, for 18 years and prior to that as a teacher at St. Mary’s School in Lake Forest. Mary Kay’s dedication to Catholic education was honored by the Archdiocese of Chicago, Office of Catholic Schools in April, 2011, with the Distinguished Service Award. Countless lives were impacted by Mary Kay’s hard work, amazing sense of humor, and deep love for God. Her life is an inspiration to her family, her beloved students and faculty, and the countless people with whom she shared community and church events. Mary Kay is survived by brothers John (Rita), Charles (Anne) and Thomas (Anne), 11 nieces and nephews, and 13 grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death in 2010 by her parents, Willard and Kathryn Tschanz of Lake Forest. He was preceded in death by his sister Alice Wilson and brothers John, Peter and Patrick Keig; uncle of many nieces and nephews. No visitation.
