RAYMOND F. HIMMEL

PEKIN ~ Raymond Franklin Himmel, 91, of 2408 Willow Street, Pekin, died at 2:05 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2004 at Methodist Medical Center of Illinois in Peoria.
Born September 20, 1912 in Topeka to Frank and Fannie Dean Himmel, he married Ethel Elizabeth Phillips on October 1, 1938 in Bloomington. She died August 9, 1997 in Pekin. One brother (Nelson Himmel) and two sisters (Lucille Himmel and Mildred Smith) also preceded him in death.
Surviving are one son, Phillip D. (Judy) Himmel of Pekin; one grandson, Jeffrey D. (Terri) Himmel of Pekin; and one great-grandson, Adam P. Himmel of Pekin.
A United States Navy veteran of World War II, he served from October 8, 1943 to November 15, 1945. He had served in the European and Asiatic-Pacific Theatres of operations.
Mr. Himmel worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Pekin for over 30 years, retiring in 1977.
He was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at Glendale Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. The Rev. Terry C. Edele will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

CYNTHIA D. TRENT

HANNA CITY ~ Cynthia D. Trent, 53, of 208 North Murphy Road, Hanna City, was pronounced dead at 9:47 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2004 in Peoria County.
She was born July 29, 1950 in Peoria to Grant and Maxine Louise Middag Campbell.
Surviving are her father of Hanna City; and one brother, Steve (Bonnie) Campbell of Edestein.
Her mother and one niece preceded her in death.
She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Peoria Produce Company in Peoria for the past many years.
She was a member of the Hanna City Sportsman Club in Hanna City and was of the Lutheran faith. She enjoyed life.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services. The Rev. Robert N. Brite, Jr. will officiate. Cremation will be accorded.

ORVIS W. MALLON

PEKIN ~ Orvis Wayne Mallon, 74, of 2701 Deveron Circle, Pekin, died at 3:40 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2003 at Methodist Medical Center of Illinois in Peoria.
Born October 12, 1929 in Walnut, Iowa to James Emery and Orpha Elizabeth Rickel Mallon, he married Melva Sue Ruffcorn on January 17, 1959 in Kahoka, Missouri. She survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Penny (Jon) Barrow of Peoria, Sandy (Doug) Nickelson of Overland Park, Kansas, Carla (Steve) Germann of Davenport, Iowa, and Carol (Tony) Morris of Matherville, Illinois; one son, Donald Wayne Mallon of Pekin; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Merlyn (Cora) Mallon of Watseka; one sister, Maxine Bullard of Omaha, Nebraska.
His parents, two brothers, and one sister preceded him death.
A United States
Army veteran of the
Korean War, he served from August 23, 1948 to August 22, 1951 . He attained the rank of Sergeant.
Mr. Mallon worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 38 years as a clerk, retiring in 1989.
He was a member of the Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1232 and Grace United Methodist Church, both of Pekin.
He enjoyed fishing and camping.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Quinn McKenzie will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2004 at the funeral home. Graveside military services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa conducted by the Keokuk Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3508 and Keokuk American Legion Post #41.

DUANE ROCKHOLD

PEKIN ~ Duane Franklin Rockhold, 68, of 804 North 2nd Street, Pekin, died at 9:22 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 2004 at Pekin Hospital.
Born October 19, 1935 in Pekin to Norman Franklin and Ramona Suzanne Maquet Rockhold, he married Mary L. Maquet Rohmann on January 23, 1982 in Pekin .
Surviving are three sons, David D. (Debra) Rockhold of Morton, Darren M. (Mary) Rockhold of Santa Rosa, California, and Dirk N. (Brandy) Rockhold of Iowa; one daughter, Deborah K. (Dale) Roberts of Longmont, Colorado; two step-daughters, Janet (Carl) Jordan of Eagle, Colorado and Jeannine (Michael) Holland of Douglas, Wyoming; ten grandchildren; and two brothers, Jack (Sherry) Rockhold of Pekin and Kenneth (Mary) Rockhold of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
His parents and one brother (Norman L. Rockhold) preceded him in death.
A Brickmason for many years, he last worked for Chris Knapp and Son in Morton retiring in 1995. In prior years, he was a self-employed Brickmason.
He was a member of First Christian Church of Pekin and the Loyal Order of Moose #916 in Pekin.
He enjoyed fishing, golfing

hunting, and playing cards.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Robert N. Brite, Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2004 at the funeral home, where a Moose service will be held at 4 p.m. Cremation will be accorded following the service.

PEKIN ~ Adele Jo Nelson, 67, of 2018 Sierra Drive, Pekin, died at 4:14 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at Methodist Medical Center of Illinois in Peoria.
Born January 25, 1936 in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania to Gasper and Catherine Ambrose Vaccaro, she married Arnold E. Nelson on May 7, 1960 in Monesson, Pennsylvania.
Surviving are her husband; her mother of Monesson, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Barbara (Tim) Mayer of Metamora and Patti (Mike) Seacrist of Ballwin, Missouri; one son, David A. Nelson of Peoria; four grandchildren; two sisters, Joann (Richard) Fields of Bell Vernon, Pennsylvania and Cathy (Marshall) Carpenter of Monesson, Pennsylvania; and one brother, Charles (My-Hoa) Vaccaro of Sydney, Australia.
Her father preceded her in death.
Mrs. Nelson worked for OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria for 11 years, retiring from the patient accounts department in 2000. Previously, she had worked in the office at the Pekin Wal-Mart.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Pekin where she was a lay reader and a member of the Episcopal Church Women.
She was a member of the Pekin Hospital League. An avid golfer, she was a member of the Sunset Hills Country Club Women’s Golf League where she had held the offices of president, secretary and treasurer. She had been an election judge for many years. She was also a member of the St. Francis Senior Saints. She enjoyed traveling and reading and was devoted to her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2004 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Pekin. The Rev. William Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2004 and from noon to 12:45 p.m., Friday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

LEON WEGENER
(1930~2004)
PEKIN ~ Leon H. Wegener, 73, of 509 Country Club Drive, Pekin, died at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2004 in the emergency room of Pekin Hospital.
Born December 14, 1930 in Davenport, Iowa to Rudolph and Birdie Berodt Wegener, he married Lois Erna Hoefer on September 7, 1957 in Davenport, Iowa. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Alane L. Wegener of Tucson, Arizona; one son, Dirk R.Wegener of Rockford; two brothers, Nyle (Anna) Wegener of Blue Grass, Iowa and Dale (Betty) Wegener of Walcott, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents preceded him in death.
He was a United States Navy veteran of the
Korean War.
Mr. Wegener worked for Crescent Electric Supply Company in Peoria for 40 years, retiring in 1995 as branch manager.
He was a member of Pekin Country Club and the Masonic Lodge.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Paul D. Balaban will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

MARY BEENEY
(1936~2004)
PEKIN ~ Mary Katherine Beeney, 67, of 421 Herman Street, died at 8:43 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2004 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born January 15, 1936 in Waco, Tennessee to Robert Lee and Brownie Lee Sharp Avritt, she married Theodore Edward Beeney on February 21, 1959 in Pekin. He died May 15, 1992 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by two sons, George Lee Beeney and Scott Michael Beeney; one daughter, Betty Jean Beeney and two sisters, Anita Avritt and Margaret Dudley.
Surviving are five sons, Billie Dean (Linda) Barber of Pontiac, Danny Edward Daniels of Michigan, Theodore Eugene Beeney of Rolla, Missouri, Jay Lynn Beeney of San Francisco, California and Matthew Mark Beeney of Pekin; one daughter, Tonya M. Tribbett of Manito; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one sister, Mildred Marie Burns of Pekin.
Mrs. Beeney had worked as a cook at the Pekin Downtown Motel, as the head of the cafeteria at Libby’s in Morton, on the line for Foster & Gallagher in Peoria, as manager and head cook for the Davis Café in downtown Pekin. She last worked as a cook for the former Red Wagon Restaurant in Pekin.
She enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and making crafts. She also collected bears.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

PEKIN ~ Goldie Sherman, 76, of 2323 Broadway Rd., Apt. 2B4, died at 8:05 p.m., Monday, January 12, 2004 at her home.
Born October 14, 1927 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to Fred Leslie and Mary Margaret Baker Parker, she married William Donald Miller on April 1, 1945 in Jonesboro.
She later married Paul M. Sherman on December 21, 1969 in Pekin.
Surviving are two sons, Donald R. (Pat) Miller of Manito and Randy A. Miller of Phoenix , Arizona; one daughter, Linda K. Miltimore of Zion, Illinois; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Pete (Mattie) Parker of Jonesboro and Simp Parker of Bono, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by one grandson; three brothers; and one sister.
Mrs. Sherman last worked as a desk clerk for 10 years at the original Holiday Inn in Pekin during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Previously, she had worked at the Pekin K-Mart and at Sherman’s Drive Inn in Pekin.
She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Pekin, where she was involved in the “Prime Timers”, the Circle of Love Sunday school class, and the kitchen committee.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. The Rev. Greg Mason will officiate. Visitation will be two hours before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

STANLEY RIPPER
(1920~2004)
PEKIN ~ Stanley O. Ripper, 84, of 601 Prince Street, died at 6:55 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2004 at Methodist Medical Center of Illinois in Peoria. He was formerly of 1504 Charlotte St .
Born January 11, 1920 in Cincinnati Township, Tazewell County to Frederick George and Emma Eva Lutz Ripper, he married Fannette Margaret Traeger on April 3, 1942 in Palmyra, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his wife on November 12, 1985 in Pekin and four brothers.
Surviving are two sons, Lynn H. (Marlene) Ripper of Edwardsville and John R. (Marianne) Ripper of Indian Trail, North Carolina; one daughter, Susan M. Ripper of Pekin; three granddaughters; and two sisters, Vernita Organ of LaPorte, Indiana and Mary Thelma Wagner of Pekin.
Mr. Ripper worked for Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria for 40 years, retiring as an inspector in the transmission department in January 1981.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin.
He served as treasurer for Boy Scout Troop #181 for over 40 years. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed softball, basketball, and golf in his younger years.
He served stateside in the U.S.
Army from October 15, 1941 until being discharged as a Master Sergeant on October 20, 1945.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 2004 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin. The Rev. Mark A. Miller and Rev. Glenn R.A. Niemann will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel and 30 minutes prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Sand Prairie Cemetery in rural Green Valley.
