BETTY L. PATTERSON
PLAINS -- Betty L. Patterson, 79, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at her son's home in Dodge City.
She was born Oct. 16, 1924, to Keith Rosson and Hester (Gamble) Reynolds in Liberal.
She was a homemaker and acquired her pilots license at the age of 50.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Plains.
Her hobbies included traveling, playing bridge and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son, Stephen Patterson and wife, Cathy, Dodge City; two daughters, Debra Edward, Miami, Okla., Susan Jacobs and husband, John, Plains; one sister, Linda Felan, Oklahoma City, Okla.; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two infant brothers.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Plains with the Reverends Terry Mayhew and Jim Ames presiding.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at the Williams Timberhill Cemetery
in Miami, Okla. with the Minister Doug Harris presiding.
Haskell County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

PAUL RIXON
SUBLETTE -- Paul Rixon, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Sept. 5, 1916, to Carl and Jessie (Fergus) Rixon in Holly Colorado.
He married Jeane Simmons July 13, 1949, in Raton, N.M. She died July 5, 2000.
He owned and operated the Rixon Oil Company from 1941 until 1945, the owned the Rixon Service Station and Bulk from 1948 until 1954. He then owned and operated Rixon Hardware from 1955 to 1980.
He was a member of the Sublette American Legion Post No. 205, since 1948.
Survivors include one son, Eddie Rixon, Sublette; two duaghters, Marge Collins and husband, Sonnie, Satanta, Betty Miller and husband, Ron, Sublette; one brother, Robert Rixon and wife, Marge, Wichita; one sister, Betty Hewes and husband, Dave, Ingalls; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Marjorie Storey and Dorothy Maxwell, and one brother, Joe Rixon.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Haskell County Cemetery
in Sublette with Brian Rixon and Jesse Garetson presiding.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday and from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday.

C.W. (BUS) LEIERER
ULYSSES -- C.W. (Bus) Leierer, 96, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Western Prairie Care Center Home in Ulysses.
He was born Sept. 13, 1907, to Charles E. and Cora (Miller) Leierer in Grant County.
He married Virginia M. Hilleary March 12, 1929, in Garden City. She died Jan. 29, 2001.
A lifetime resident of Ulysses he was a graduate of Grant County Rural High School. He owned and operated Leierer's Lawn and Garden in Ulysses for 38 years, he also was a rural mail carrier.
His hobbies included gardening and growing plants, fishing and hunting, playing card games and was an avid dancer.
Survivors include one son, Richard W. Leierer and wife, Earlene, Ulysses; two daughters, Karen Edgington and husband, Ron, Ulysses, Joan Porter and husband, Lewis, Mesa, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Faye (Dude) Leierer; three sisters, Cleo Deffenbaugh, Blanche Young and Ruth Metcalf.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses with the Reverend Sam Bynum presiding.
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery
in Ulysses.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday.

BESSIE LEONA HAAR
ELKHART -- Bessie Leona Haar, 95, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Morton County Care Center in Elkhart.
She was born April 8, 1908 in Texas County, Okla. to Lemuel L. and Annie C. (Barnhart) Simmons.
She married Willie Haar at Pueblo, Colo. He died Nov. 7, 1946.
She graduated in 1928 from Elkhart High School.
She was a member of the First Church of God in Elkhart. She was a member of the Church of God Missionary Organization and a 40-year member of the Friendly Neighbors Extension Homemakers Organization. She enjoyed caring for flowers and plants. She enjoyed textile painting, crocheting, baking, and shopping.
Survivors include, one son, Lloyd Haar and wife, Jo Anne, Elkhart; one brother, Roy Simmons, Elkhart; one son-in-law, Glenn Brewer, Elkhart; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Selma Brewer and four brothers, Arliss, Earl, Ivan, and Harold Simmons.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. at the First Church God in Ron Crosley presiding.
Burial will be at the Elkhart Cemetery
in Elkhart with the Reverend Ron Crosley presiding.

RAY "KELLY" MILLER
HUGOTON -- Ray "Kelly" Miller, 58, died Friday January 16, 2004, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
He was born May 4, 1945, to Rex Ray and Virginia Dean (Dillon) Miller in Wheeler, Texas.
He moved from Wheeler, Texas to Hugoton in 1984. He was a truck driver hauling cattle.
Survivors include two sons, Jason Rickman and wife, Tifany, Keyes, Okla. Mike Rickman, Hugoton; three daughters, Shelly Louthan and husband, Kip, Henderson, N.V.; Kim Miller and husband Justin, Elkton, Md.; Kelly Renee Miller, Hugoton; one brother, Jim Miller and wife, Marlene, Spearman, Texas; one sister, Lynda Banger and husband, Mark, Amarillo, Texas; 7 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Texas Patton.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Church of God in Hugoton with the Pastor Bill Vencent presiding.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the Wheeler Cemetery
in Wheeler, Texas.

FLORENCE ENOLA "MOODY" DRAKE
SUBLETTE -- Florence Enola "Moody" Drake, 93, died Friday January 16, 2004, at BSA Hospice Nursing Home in McLean, Texas.
She was born Aug. 14, 1910, to Mr. and Ms. Charles Ward in Ensign.
She married Charles A. Moody. He died. She then married Jack Drake. He died in 1995.
She was a homemaker, school teacher, and rural mail carrier for several years.
She was a member of the Christian Church in Sublette.
She is survived by one son, Charles C. Moody, Jr. and wife, Pam, Ashville, Ohio; one step-son, Robert Moody and wife, Barbara; one daughter Janny G. Potter, Enid, Okla.; one daughter, , Janny G. Potter, Enid, Okla. ; one step daughter, Marie Santala, Satanta; two sisters, Alta Erickson, Olathe, Colo., Twila Taylor, Miami, Texas; 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; one son; David Lee Moody; two step-sons, Richard Moody and Verl Moody; one daughter, Virgie K. Moore; two step-daughters, Dorothy Simpson and Fern Lamar; one grandson, Gary Moody; one granddaughter, Millie Dumler; four brothers, Ray C., Lester L., Elvin E., Marion A. Ward; three sisters, Lois A., Lola G. and Viola R.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m., Monday at the Christian Church in Sublette with Minister David Erwin presiding.
Burial will be at the Dudley Township Cemetery
in Satanta .

CLARA ANN (STAM) REED
SATANTA -- Clara Ann (Stam) Reed, 98, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Satanta Long Term Care Unit in Satanta.
She was born Feb. 5, 1905, to Will and Sarah Stam in the Garber Okla. territory.
She married Everett Eugene Reed Oct. 11, 1924, in Garber, Okla. He died in 1968.
She was a retired cook from the Satanta Grade School.
She was a Charter member of the First Baptist Church in Satanta and member of the Eastern Star in Satanta.
Survivors include one son, Billy Eugene Reed and wife, Sue, Grand Prairie, Texas; four grandchildren, Lisa McKinney, Keith Reed, Stacey Blakely and Pam Hadley; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and niece, Sarah Margaret Rehorn; nephews, Bob Roller, Hank Rehorn and Glenn Rehorn, and other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Satanta with the Pastor Ray Tweed presiding.
Burial will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Tonkawa IOOF Cemetery
in Tonkawa, Okla.
