Frank A. Vondracek 1926-2000
TIMKEN - Frank A. Vondracek, 74, died July 15 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Rose Campus, in Great Bend. He was born June 22, 1926, at
Timken, the son of Joseph A. and Ludmila Pechanec Vondracek. He married
Marie E. Felder Aug. 30, 1950, at Holy Trinity Church in Timken. A lifetime
resident of Rush County, he was a farmer and stockman.
Vondracek was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Catholic Workman
Lodge and Holy Trinity Church Council, all in Timken.
Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, Steven F. Vondracek of
Dorrance, Anthony C. Vondracek, Charles M. Vondracek and Francis J.
Vondracek, all of Timken, and David A. Vondracek of Wichita; one daughter,
Mary T. Ernst of Maize; one sister, Agnes Finger of Larned; and nine
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Rudy Vondracek.
Wake and rosary service will be at 8 tonight at Janousek Funeral Home.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Ultan Murphy
officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross cemetery in Timken. Friends may
call until 9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to
American Cancer Society, 1315 S.W. Arrowhead Road, Topeka, KS 66604.

Earl Herschel Johnson 1933-2000
PRATT - Earl Herschel Johnson, 66, died July 14 at St. Francis Hospital in
Wichita. He was born Oct. 8, 1933, at Hugoton, the son of Lenwood M. and
Jessie Mae Pope Johnson. A resident of Pratt, coming from Albuquerque,
N.M., he was a retired cement finisher.
Johnson attended Second Baptist Church in Pratt.
Survivors include five sons, Gregory Johnson of Beaverton, Ore., Herschel
Johnson of Kansas City, Craig Johnson of Las Vegas, Nev., Earl Vance
Johnson of Madrid, Spain, and Kevin Johnson of Hutchinson; three daughters,
Colleen Lize and Pilar Robertson, both of Las Vegas, and Charman Morgan of
Dallas, Texas; his father of Pratt; six brothers, Carl James Johnson of San
Diego, Calif., Ronald Johnson and Melvin Johnson, both of Aurora, Colo.,
Tim Johnson of Pueblo, Colo., and Morris Johnson and Perry Johnson, both of
Pratt; three sisters, Edith Smith and Joyce Johnson, both of Pratt, and
Janice Turner of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Larrison Mortuary in Pratt with the
Rev. Marion Crockett officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn cemetery in
Pratt. Friends may call from 1-8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Tuesday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the church, in
care of the funeral home.

Carmel Gibson 1924-2000
Carmel Gibson, 76, of Great Bend, died July 14 at his home. He was born
June 12, 1924. Funeral arrangements are pending with Fryberger Mortuary.

Rita Mae Jacobs 1931-2000
SALINA - Rita Mae Jacobs, 69, died July 14 at her Salina home. She was born
Sept. 12, 1931, at Pfeifer, the daughter of George P. and Bridget Schmidt
Jacobs. She married Alfred Jacobs Feb. 15, 1949, at Pfeifer. A resident of
Salina, she was a homemaker and was business manager and partners with her
husband of Jacobs Oil Company in Pfeifer from 1959-1991.
Mrs. Jacobs was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and
I.J. Chapter of PEO in Salina. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic
Church in Pfeifer, the Altar Society and Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Al Jacobs of
Louisville, Ky., and Tim Jacobs of Olathe; two daughters, Stacy Harbin of
Salina and Karen Baczkowski of Prairie Village; two brothers, Norman Jacobs
of Wichita and Larry Urban of Pfeifer; three sisters, Florence Morris of
Shreveport, La., Virginia Crain of Great Bend and Janice Leiker of Ellis;
and seven grandchildren.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. today at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in
Salina with the Rev. Larry LeTourneau officiating. Burial was at Mount
Calvary cemetery in Salina. Memorials are suggested to the Salina church or
Hospice of Salina, both in care of Ryan Mortuary in Salina.

Mary Rose Robbs 1926-2000
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Mary Rose Robbs, 73, died July 12 at her home in
Newport News. She was born Dec. 10, 1926, in Barton County, the daughter of
Dennis and Elsie Jones Hogan. She attended Hoisington High School. She
married Elvis S. Robbs Aug. 23, 1949. A resident of Newport News, coming
from Washington D.C., Germany and Colorado, she was a retired contract
clerk for Fort Eustis.
Mrs. Robbs was a volunteer with American Cancer Society and American Heart
Association.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Michael D. Robbs of
Smithfield, Va., and Timothy D. Robbs of Poquoson, Va.; one daughter,
Kathleen D. Gulbranson of Newport News; one brother, Virgil Hogan of
Hoisington; one sister, Carol Strobel of Burdett; and five grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Parklawn Memorial Park in
Newport News with the Rev. Tag Kilgore officiating. Memorials are suggested
to Riverside Hospice, 500 J. Clyde Morris Boulevard, Newport News, Va.
23601, or American Cancer Society, 729 Thimble Shoals Boulevard, Suite 3-C,
Newport News, Va. 23606.

Virginia Williams 1926-2000
Virginia Williams, 73, died July 10 at her home in Great Bend. Survivors
and funeral arrangements will be announced by Bryant-Christians Funeral
Home in Great Bend.

Ervin James "Pete" Pettit 1911-2000
Ervin James "Pete" Pettit, 88, died July 11 at Hutchinson Hospital. He was
born Nov. 4, 1911, in Barton County, the son of James F. and Emma Kerns
Pettit. He married Elsie Robertson Dec. 25, 1937, in Great Bend. She died
Nov. 29, 1999. A lifetime resident of Barton County, he was a retired
seismographer for Central Exploration in Hoisington.
Pettit was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend.
Survivors includes two daughters, Coleen Sturken of Haddam, Conn., and
Cheryl Matthews of Mount Hope; one sister, Mildred Kirby of Sacramento,
Calif.; and four granddaughters, Stacey Cornelius Larkin of Manhattan,
Kristyn Sturken and Kimberly Sturken, both of Manchester, Conn., and
Kandice Sturken of Haddam. He was preceded in death by one son, David J.
Pettit; one brother, Kenneth Pettit; and six sisters, Myrtle, Wilda, Hazel,
Opal, Mabel and Fern.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in Great
Bend with the Rev. Dr. Kevin Baxter officiating. Burial will be at the
Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m.
until service time Saturday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are
suggested to the Great Bend Humane Society or Victory in the Valley, both
in care of the funeral home.

Bonita "Bonnie" M. Wirth 1925-2000
Bonita "Bonnie" M. Wirth died on Tuesday, July 11 at her home. She was born
Bonita Marie Currey June 9, 1925, the daughter of Thomas George Currey and
Flora Gaulding. She and her siblings were adopted by George E. Walter after
Flora's marriage to George. She married Robert "Bob" A. Wirth Jr. Feb. 14,
1949. He preceded her in death Aug. 25, 1993. She was cremated.
Bonnie is survivied by five children. They are her son, David Paul Wirth,
married to Pam Hoffman Wirth and their three children, Brenden, Katrina and
Dalton, and Katrina's daughter, Mikayla Elizabeth Wirth-Menges, born July
9, 2000; and her four daughters, Roberta Lynne Wirth, married to Douglas
McCandless and their two sons, David and Andrew McCandless; Connie Jeanne
Rogers, married to Joe Rogers; JoAnn Wirth Roth, married to Kent Roth and
their two children, Bonnie and Alex; and Mary Elizabeth Wirth. She is also
survived by one brother, Robert Thomas Walter of Ypsilanti, Mich. She was
preceded in death by her sister, Mary Leota Walter Walstrom of Littleton,
Colo.
Bonnie was active as a mother, homemaker, farmer and community volunteer
for many years. She graduated from Hoisington High School in 1943. She was
a civilian employee at the Great Bend Airbase in the radio corps during
World War II. She taught Lutheran Sunday School and Catholic Religious
Education classes. Several times she worked for the U.S. Census. She was a
member of the Odin Extension Homemakers Unit for over 30 years and taught
many of the lessons. She volunteered with CASA, Central Kansas Medical
Center, 4-H sewing program and Girl Scouts.
She and Bob farmed for over 40 years raising wheat, alfalfa and cattle on a
farm on the north edge of Cheyenne Bottoms. They owned and operated Wirth
Alfalfa Farms Inc. In 1987, they moved to Great Bend.
Bonnie donated her corneas to the tissue/organ bank. Memorials can be made
to the St. Rose of Lima Memorial Fund-Parish School of Religion or Central
Kansas Medical Center Foundation, both in care of Fryberger Mortuary of
Great Bend.
Rosary service will be at 8 tonight at St. Rose of Lima Church in Great
Bend. A memorial funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
Friends are encouraged to gather at 10 a.m. in the St. Rose Parish
Auditorium. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Fryberger Mortuary.

Russell Lee Dueser 1937-2000
Russell Lee Dueser, 62, died July 12 at his home in Great Bend. He was born
Sept. 22, 1937, in Great Bend, the son of Andrew John and Bessie Ruth
Griffin Dueser. He married Darlene Eckert Nov. 2, 1958, in Great Bend. She
died April 17, 1977. A lifetime resident of the Great Bend area, he was
employed by C.O. Mammels for 19 years and was a farmer.
Dueser was a member of First United Methodist Church, Barton County
Community College Booster Club and Cheyenne Twisters Square Dance Club.
Survivors include one son, Terry Dueser of Wichita; one daughter, Shelly
Herring of Frontenac; his mother; one sister, Jo Rosenbaum of Great Bend;
and five grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in Great
Bend with the Rev. Mark Pennington officiating. Burial will be at Great
Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-9 tonight, 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, in care of the
funeral home.

Frances J. Mauler 1900-2000
OLMITZ - Frances J. Mauler, 100, died July 11 at Gatewood Care Center in
Russell. She was born Feb. 22, 1900, in Olmitz, the daughter of Adolph J.
and Anna Kober Rabenseifner. She married Albert J. Mauler Oct. 24, 1921,
in Olmitz. He died Aug. 2, 1995. A lifetime resident of Olmitz, she was a
homemaker.
Mrs. Mauler was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Olmitz.
Survivors include one daughter, Christine M. Lichter of Olmitz; one
brother, Bernard A. Rabenseifner of Olmitz; four grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in
death by two brothers, John Rabenseifner and Adolph Rabenseifner; two
sisters, Mary Langer and Gertrude Seidl; and one granddaughter.
Rosary service will be at 7:30 tonight at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in
Hoisington. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church with the
Rev. Ultan Murphy officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery in
Olmitz. Friends may call until 9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are
suggested to Gatewood Care Center, in care of the funeral home.
