Alvin K. Gore 1933-2000
PLAINVILLE - Alvin K. Gore, 66, died July 12 at his home in Plainville
following a long illness. He was born Sept. 2, 1933, in Sawyer, the son of
Leslie and Susie L. Douthart Gore. He married Joyce Young Jan. 16, 1953, in
El Dorado. A resident of Plainville, he was employed by White and Ellis
Drilling Company in El Dorado, Schult Mobile Homes in Plainville, Slawson
Drilling Company in Great Bend and was the owner and operator of Gore
Trucking.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Steve Gore of Hershey,
Penn., and Monte Gore of Plainville; one daughter, Gayla Puthoff of
Wichita; four brothers, Robert E. Gore of Hutchinson, David Gore of
Wichita, Jimmy Gore of Nickerson and Roger Gore of Phillipsburg; one
sister, Sue Bullock of Texas; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by one daughter, Diana L. Mock; and one brother, Jerry Gore.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Plainville Christian Church with
the Rev. Troy Humphrey officiating. Burial will be at Plainville Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8 tonight, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at
Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel in Plainville and from 9:30 a.m. until
service time Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the House
Calls of Hays Medical Center, Home Health and Hospice, Manhattan Christian
College or to the church, all in care of the funeral home.

Teddie Lee Turley 1936-2000
SALIDA, Colo. - Teddie Lee Turley, 64, died July 10 at his home in Salida.
He was born June 20, 1936, in Scott City, the son of Francis Ulyses and
Nora Marie Smith Turley. He married Ada Alta Graham June 5, 1955. A
resident of Salida since 1973, coming from Kansas, he was employed in the
construction and plumbing business and then worked for the Colorado
Department of Corrections in Buena Vista for 19 years until his retirement
in 1995.
Turley was a member of Salida Elks Lodge 808, Chaffee County Sheriff Jeep
Patrol and past president of Heart of the Rockies Little Britches
Association.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Michael Lee Turley of
Salida; three daughters, Christina Lynn Wilson of Saguache, Colo., Sherri
Lou McEnulty of Salida and Charlatte Wright of Pueblo, Colo.; four
brothers, Marvin Turley of Scott City, Wayne Turley and Clifford Turley,
both of Wichita and Danny Turley of Louisiana; two sisters, Elsie Wright of
Scott City and Theda Thompson of Oklahoma; and five grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Turley; one sister, Jessie Mae
Wright; and one granddaughter.
Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home
in Salida. Memorials are suggested to the Ted Turley Memorial Fund, in care
of the funeral home.

Bonita Marie Walter Wirth 1925-2000
Bonita Marie Walter Wirth, 75, died July 11 at her home in Great Bend.
Survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced by Fryberger Mortuary
in Great Bend.

Frances J. Mauler 1900-2000
OLMITZ - Frances J. Mauler, 100, died July 11 at Gateway Care Center in
Russell. Survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced by
Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.

Ervin James Pettit 1911-2000
Ervin James Pettit, 88, died July 11 at Hutchinson Hospital. Survivors and
funeral arrangements will be announced by Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in
Great Bend.

Norma Jean Roberts Manweiler 1921-2000
WICHITA - Norma Jean Roberts Manweiler, 78, homemaker, died Tuesday, July
11. She was a longtime resident of Hoisington before moving to Wichita 25
years ago. She loved painting, books and music. Her favorite song was
"Great Is Thy Faithfulness."
Mrs. Manweiler was secure in her faith in Jesus Christ and she was
dedicated to her family. She is survived by six children. They are James
Manweiler of Wichita; Nancy Sullivan of Lake Wales, Fla.; Steve Manweiler
of Wichita; Linda Martin of Neptune Beach, Fla.; Jane Fonseca of Lawrence;
and Margaret Ruppe of Wichita. She had 17 grandchildren. They are Sarah
Engelland, Kathy Manweiler, Mark Sullivan, Amy Lydon, Brad Sullivan, Dana
Milby, Sherri Kahrs, Stephanie Hodge, Risa Martin, Joel Martin, Michael
Fonseca, Stephen Fonseca, Deborah Fonseca, Daniel Fonseca, Joseph Fonseca,
Chris Howell, and Brian Howell. She had 15 great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin Jacob Manweiler.
Memorials have been established with Choices Medical Clinic and Wichita
Bible Church.
"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an
end; they are new every morning; great is Thy faithfulness." - Lamentations
3:22-23.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wichita Bible Church. The burial
and graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hoisington
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-8 tonight at Broadway Mortuary in
Wichita.

Cherline Haase 1930-2000
Cherline Haase, 69, died July 9 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose
Campus in Great Bend. She was born Aug. 14, 1930, at Kansas City, Mo., the
adopted daughter of Reynold C. and Viola L. Christiansen. She married Paul
E. Haase Dec. 23, 1963, at Cherokee, Okla. A resident of Great Bend since
1972, coming from Omaha, Neb., she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Haase was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Phillip P. Haase of
Wichita; one daughter, Karen Kay Iverson of Omaha; two brothers, Harold
Christiansen of McCook, Neb., and Larry Christiansen of Hudson; and five
grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Dr. Gary W.
Teske officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery in
Great Bend. Friends may call from 6-9 tonight, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Wednesday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend and from 10 a.m.
until service time Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the
church or Kansas State University Center for Cancer Research, both in care
of the funeral home.

Merrill A. Smither Sr. 1913-2000
SALINA - Merrill A. Smither Sr., 86, died July 8 at Windsor Estates Nursing
Center in Salina. He was born Nov. 10, 1913, in Saline County, the son of
Arthur and Irene Crane Smither. He married his wife Ruth in 1933. She died
in 1995. A resident of Salina since 1985, he was a farmer, "park ranger"
for McDonald's Restaurant for two years and was employed by Phillips
Lighting, formerly called Westinghouse, from 1968-1985.
Smither was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, member and president
of the Golden Years Club in Brookville and Salina, president and board
member of Farm Bureau and board member of Silver Haired Legislators.
Survivors include two sons, Merrill A. Smither Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev., and
Donald W. Smither of Harrisonville, Mo.; two daughters, Shirley Janssen of
Great Bend and Sandra Dyer of Salina; 13 grandchildren; 25
great-grandchildren; and special friend, Marjorie Marzolf of Salina. He was
preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ryan Mortuary in Salina with the
Rev. Jack Driscoll officiating. Burial will be at Gypsum Hill cemetery in
Salina. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time
Wednesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Salina
Hospice or Saline County Leisure Years Center, both in care of the funeral
home.

Jerry A. Langrehr 1936-2000
WICHITA - Jerry A. Langrehr, 64, died July 10. He was born April 10, 1936,
in Great Bend, the son of Henry and Glenda Panning Langrehr. He was a
graduate of Great Bend High School and Wichita University. A resident of
Wichita, he was a co-owner of Abercrombie Energy.
Langrehr was a member and had served as an officer and board member of
Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association, served on the board of the
Petroleum Club and was past president of the Kansas Geological Society. He
also was a coach of several baseball and softball teams.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Kathryn Langrehr; one son, Scott
Langrehr of Augusta; three daughters, Nancy Tandy, Sarah Langrehr and Emily
Langrehr, all of Wichita; one brother, Harold Langrehr of Great Bend; two
sisters, Fern Nolte of Great Bend and Thelma Steincamp of Wichita; and four
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jim Langrehr; and
one sister, Patty Schultz.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the University Congregational Church
in Wichita with the Rev. Dr. Robert Meyers officiating. Burial will be at
Resthaven cemetery in Wichita. Memorials are suggested to Wichita State
University Endowment Association - Jerry A. Langrehr Fund or Wichita
Collegiate School - Jerry A. Langrehr Fund, both in care of Downing & Lahey
Mortuary in Wichita.

Clayton Sidney Morrison 1938-2000
Clayton Sidney Morrison, 61, died April 14 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Dec. 19, 1938, at Great
Bend, the son of Wayne and Dorothy Moses Morrison. He married Karyl J.
Palmer Norton June 2, 1973, at Great Bend. He was a graduate of Great Bend
High School and University of Kansas. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he
had been vice president of Thurman-Morrison & Associates.
Morrison was a member of First Congregational, United Church of Christ,
serving as past chairman of board of trustees. He served on USD 428 Board
of Education from 1969-1973 and Barton County Community College Board of
Trustees from 1989-91. He was co-chairman of the Barton County Strategic
Plan in conjunction with the Barton County Economic Development Commission,
past president of Barton County Independent Insurance Agents, served on the
governing board of Kansas Workmen's Compensation Insurance Plan and served
four years on BCCC Foundation Board, three as president. He was chairman of
Great Bend Vision 2000 Steering Committee, on the Bank IV board of
directors, Kansas Calvary member, past president and director of Great Bend
Industrial Development, past president of Great Bend Rotary Club, past
Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge and was past commander of Omer Commandery No.
14.
Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Mark Morrison of
Wichita, Kyle Morrison of Salina, J.B. Morrison of Topeka and Clint
Morrison of Chicago, Ill.; two daughters, Kim Fountain of Gladstone, Mo.,
and Marla Morrison of Kansas City, Mo.; his mother of Great Bend; and one
grandson.
There will be a private family memorial service. Family will receive
friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great
Bend. Memorials are suggested to Great Bend Humane Society, in care of the
funeral home.
