Charles William Huffman 1905-2000
Charles William Huffman, 94, died July 6 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in
Great Bend. He was born July 12, 1905, at La Plata, Mo., the son of James
and Edna Florence Barnhart Huffman. He married Mayme B. West Aug. 29, 1926,
at Trinidad, Colo. A resident of Great Bend for 54 years, coming from La
Plata, he was a district gauger for Standard Oil Company, retiring in 1963.
Huffman was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Don D. Huffman of Great
Bend and Glenn C. Huffman of Bethany, Okla.; one daughter, Darlene Rowland
of Great Bend; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three
great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers and
three sisters.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Mark
Pennington officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Friends
may call from 1-9 p.m. today at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great
Bend and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Memorials are
suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Marjorie A. Sappington Pabst 1912-2000
APPLETON, Wis. - Marjorie A. Sappington Pabst, 88, died June 28. She was
born May 3, 1912, in Great Bend.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hoisington cemetery with
the Rev. Kevin Baxter officiating. Local arrangements are being handled by
Fryberger Mortuary in Great Bend.

Mark Link 1952-2000
Mark Link, 48, died July 8 at his home in Great Bend. Survivors and funeral
arrangements will be announced by Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great
Bend.

Irene E. Hickey 1922-2000
HOISINGTON -- Irene E. Hickey, 77, died July 7 at Clara Barton Hospital in
Hoisington. She was born Dec. 29, 1922, in Barton County, the daughter of
James R. and Clarissa Larkin Carroll. She married Paul F. Hickey April
15, 1944, in Hoisington. He died Sept. 7, 1981. A lifetime resident of
Hoisington, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hickey was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the
Altar Society, both of Hoisington.
Survivors include two brothers, Pete Carroll of Hoisington and Bill Carroll
of Medicine Lodge; three sisters, Geneva Carroll and Betty Smith, both of
Hoisington, and Edith King of Houma, La. She was preceded in death by one
sister, Ruby Farnsworth.
Vigil service will be at 7 tonight at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in
Hoisington. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev.
Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will be at the church. Friends may call
from 1-9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church
or the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.

Mary Nienke 1926-2000
ELLSWORTH - Mary Nienke, 73, died July 5 at Ellsworth County Medical
Center. She was born Sept. 2, 1926, at Columbia, Mo., the daughter of
George and Sally Baker Hyde. She married William Victor Nienke Aug. 22,
1952, at Salina. He died April 11, 1996. A resident of Ellsworth for 45
years, coming from Columbia, she was a homemaker and worked at Ellsworth
Good Samaritan Center and Hospital, Chickishay Mobile Homes and Elkan.
Mrs. Nienke was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ellsworth, Ladies
Aid, AARP, American Legion Auxiliary, charter member of Veterans of Foreign
Wars Auxiliary Post 6485. She was active in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and
as a crosswalk guard.
Survivors include four sons, Charles Nienke of Lyons, Ernie Nienke of
Ellsworth, Dale Ray and Eddie Ray, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; two
daughters, Judy Ruckman of Lyons and Beth Kanagy of Reedsville, Penn.; four
brothers, George Hyde, Samuel Hyde and James Hyde, all of Columbia, Mo.,
and Charles Hyde of Cheyenne, Wyo.; three sisters, Bessie Sexton, Lillian
Davis and Lena Craig, all of Columbia; 12 grandchildren; and 12
great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Gary C. Wolf
officiating. Burial will be at Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery. Friends may
call from 1-5 tonight at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth. The casket will
be closed. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral
home.

Leonard F. Bunselmeyer Sr. 1916-2000
HUDSON - Leonard F. Bunselmeyer Sr., 83, died July 5 at his home in Hudson.
He was born Nov. 27, 1916, in Stafford County, the son of Fredrick W. and
Minnie Marie Nolte Bunselmeyer. He married Elizabeth E. Flory July 11,
1942, at Englewood, Calif. She died Nov. 30, 1988. A lifetime resident of
the Hudson community, he was a flour packer for the Stafford County Flour
Mills in Hudson.
Bunselmeyer was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Hudson,
American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and
past president of Eagles Lodge in Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran of
World War II and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Survivors include two sons, Leonard F. Bunselmeyer Jr. of Great Bend and
Keith W. Bunselmeyer of Shawnee; one brother, Vernon F. Bunselmeyer of
Great Bend; one sister, Alvena E. Heyen of Hutchinson; five grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Warren L.
Bunselmeyer; and one sister, Ruth Heyen.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. George
Reddington officiating. Burial will be at Trinity cemetery in Hudson with
full military honors at graveside. Friends may call until 9 tonight at
Bryant-Christians Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. until service time
Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of
the funeral home.

Doris Aline Reynolds 1916-2000
Doris Aline Reynolds, 84, died July 6 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St.
Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Feb. 1, 1916, in Marshall County,
the daughter of Alonzo and Rena Schlitzbaum Long. She married Roy E.
Reynolds July 1, 1936, at McPherson. He died May 14, 1990. A resident of
Great Bend for 50 years, coming from Stafford, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Reynolds was a member of Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen Arthur of Salina; two grandchildren;
and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one brother, Vern
Long.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in Great Bend
with the Rev. Brian Norvell officiating. Private burial will be at the
Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m.
until service time Monday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested
to Gideon Bible Society.

Florence Emma Engle 1905-2000
Florence Emma Engle, 94, died July 5 in Great Bend. She was born July 7,
1905, at Ness County, the daughter of James Earl and Edna Vivian Hopper
Combest. She was a 1924 graduate of Ransom High School. She married Oscar
V. Engle May 14, 1927, at Ransom. He preceded her in death. A longtime
resident of Great Bend, she was a homemaker and co-owner of a contracting
business.
Mrs. Engle was a member of First Christian Church of Great Bend.
Survivors include two sons, Bob Engle of Great Bend and Rod Engle of Lee's
Summit, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by three brothers, Earl Combest, Dale Combest and Merwin Combest;
and two sisters, Bertha Horchem Hall and Blanche Zitnik Best.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fryberger Chapel with the Rev. Rob
Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Friends may
call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the
funeral home. The family will receive friends from 7-9 tonight. Memorials
are suggested to the church building fund, in care of the funeral home.

Vera E. Streck 1903-2000
GALATIA - Vera E. Streck, 97, died July 6 at Central Kansas Medical Center,
St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born June 1, 1903, in Russell
County, the daughter of Jacob and Pauline Strecker Steinert. She married
Phillip Streck Oct. 15, 1922, in Russell County. He died Feb. 28, 1984. A
lifetime resident of the Galatia area, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Streck was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia.
Survivors include one son, Dean Streck of Hesston; three grandchildren; and
nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Leonard
Streck; one brother, Herman Steinert; and three sisters, Bertha Decker,
Elsie Hampton and Amanda Dumler.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Shannon
Tiller officiating. Burial will at Fairview cemetery in Galatia. Friends
may call from 2-9 tonight at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington and
from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Memorials are
suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Clara Ruth Taylor 1919-2000
PRAIRIE VILLAGE - Clara Ruth 'Clu' Taylor, 81, died July 5 at her home in
Prairie Village. She was born May 28, 1919, in Wichita, the daughter of Ray
Delaplane and Clara Vollmer Mering. She was a graduate of Southwest High
School and the University of Missouri School of Journalism. She married
Thomas R. Taylor in 1947. A resident of Prairie Village since 1987, coming
from Great Bend, she was a bookkeeper for the family business, Walnut Hill
Feed Yard.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Mo.,
and Delta Gamma Sorority.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Richard R. Taylor of
Great Bend; one daughter, Ann T. Mueller of Kansas City; one brother, John
Mering of Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Virginia McDonald of Miami, Fla.,
Jean Quinn of Kansas City and Marjorie Sherman of New London, N.H.; three
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one
brother, Ray Delaplane Mering Jr.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Great Bend City Cemetery.
Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the church. In lieu of
flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Luke's-Shawnee Mission Hospice,
3100 Broadway, Suite 300, Kansas City, Mo., 64111, or to the church, in
care of the funeral home.

Helen M. Sheldon Eckels 1914-2000
NESS CITY - Helen M. Sheldon Eckels, 85, died July 6 at Ness City Long-term
Care Center in Ness City. She was born Aug. 14, 1914, at Frankfort, Ind.,
the daughter of Besstina and Ina Eva Jones Talbert. She married Jack
Sheldon in 1934. He died May 7, 1975. She married William J. Eckels March
19, 1982. He died Aug. 10, 1999. A resident of Ness County since 1934, she
was a bookkeeper for the Chevrolet automobile dealership and Greeley Gas.
Mrs. Eckels was a member of United Methodist Church, Starlight Chapter -
Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and Gingham Girls, all
of Ness City.
Survivors include one son, Donald Max Sheldon of Florissant, Colo.; three
stepsons, Ron Eckels, Jerry Eckels and Bill Eckels, all of Ness City; two
stepdaughters, Kay Wasinger and Linda Schneider, both of Ness City; one
brother, Edwin L. Talbert of Garden City; one sister, Mary Ryersee of Great
Bend; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ness City cemetery with
the Rev. Doug Hasty officiating. Friends may call until 9 tonight at
Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City. Memorials are suggested to Order of
the Eastern Star in Ness City, in care of the funeral home.
