Ruth Catherine Wyman 1900-2000
MACKSVILLE - Ruth Catherine Wyman, 100, died Oct. 15 at Stafford District
Hospital. She was born March 2, 1900, in St. John, the daughter of Charles
and Barbara Hundt. She married Clarence Wyman July 5, 1925, in St. John. He
died in August 1975. A lifetime resident of the Macksville community, she
was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Orville Wyman of Macksville; one sister, Lillian
Burkepile of LaJunta, Colo; three grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Steven
Wyman; two brothers; and seven sisters.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church in
Macksville with the Rev. W. Harlan Rittgers officiating. Burial will be at
the Farmington cemetery in Macksville. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today
at the Minnis Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Macksville EMS, in care of
the funeral home.

Kathryn 'Kay' Loy Calvin 1910-2000
BRIGHTON, Mich. - Kathryn "Kay" Loy Calvin, 89, died Aug. 29 in Brighton.
She was born Nov. 6, 1910, in Glasco, the daughter of Frank J. and Clara
Butler Colwell. She attended Saint Mary College and earned a degree from
the University of Kansas in 1932. She earned her master's degree from the
College of William and Mary. She was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honor
fraternity. She married David T. Loy, MD. He died in 1960. She then married
Clifton C. Calvin. He died in 1993. She was employed in 1933 as social
worker with the Federal Emergency Relief Agency and with the Central Trades
Council. She returned to KU in 1960 as an instructor in the department of
sociology.
Mrs. Calvin served on the board of directors of the Kansas State Historical
Society, was a member of the Native Sons and Daughters, and PEO. She served
as a Lawrence housing commissioner and helped establish Catholic Social
Services and became a member of its board. In 1971, she was elected a
delegate to the White House Conference on Aging. In 1974, she was cited by
the governor of Kansas as a distinguished Kansan.
Survivors include two grandsons, David K. Loy of Minneapolis, Minn., and J.
Michael Loy of Brighton; three great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, David C. Loy,
PhD, of Oshkosh; and one brother, George F. Colwell of Glasco.
Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 21, at Bryant-Christians Funeral
Home in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to the Douglas County
Historical Society or donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.

David C. Loy 1936-2000
OSHKOSH, Wis. - David C. Loy, 63, died Jan. 5 at Evergreen Retirement
Community. He was born June 30, 1936, in Kansas City, the son of David T.
and Kathryn Colwell Loy. A resident of Oshkosh, he was an economics
professor at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh from 1967 until his
retirement in 1993, served on the Winnebago County Board for eight years
and held a real estate license.
Survivors include his wife, Patti, of Oshkosh; two sons, David K. Loy of
Minnesota and J. Michael Loy of Michigan; one stepson, Joel Mather of
Oshkosh; one stepdaughter, Amy Mather of Oshkosh; one foster son, Wilbert
Hooten of Green Bay, Wis.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 21 at Bryant-Christians Funeral
Home in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to Friends of the Shelter or
donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.

Garel A. Grunder 1913-2000
ST. JOHN - Garel A. Grunder, 87, died Oct. 15 at Stafford District Hospital
in Stafford. He was born April 18, 1913, in rural Stafford County southwest
of St. John, the son of Robert R. and Bertha Ellen Curtis Grunder. He was a
1929 graduate from Antrim High School. A graduate of Kansas University, he
earned his B.A. in 1933, his M.A. in 1936, and a PhD. in 1942. He married
Marjorie Anacker Oct. 20, 1945, in Seattle, Wash. A resident of Stafford
County since 1950, he was a farmer and cattleman.
Grunder was a veteran of World War II, having served from 1942-1945.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Fred Grunder of St. John;
two daughters, Elaine Byrd of Evanston, Ill., and Patricia Berger of
Winters, Calif.; one sister, Ruth Van Winkle of rural St. John; and six
grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Minnis Chapel in St. John, with the
Rev. Dean Hemphill officiating. Burial will be at Neelands cemetery of
rural St. John. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
Memorials are suggested to donor's choice, in care of the funeral chapel.

Dorothy A. Ringering 1910-2000
ELLINWOOD - Dorothy A. Ringering, 90, died Oct. 15 at her home. She was
born Aug. 4, 1910, near Hudson, the daughter of Adolph and Anna Hapach
Schade. She married Stanley Ringering Sept. 7, 1930, in Ellinwood. He died
Feb. 13, 1989. A lifetime resident of Barton and Stafford counties, she was
a farm wife and owner of Ringering Campground.
Mrs. Ringering was a member of First Baptist Church and Women's
Fellowship, both of Ellinwood.
Survivors include one son, Melvin Ringering of Ellinwood; two daughters,
Gladys Marie Engleman of Wichita and Delores Schwertfeger of Ellinwood; two
sisters, Marie Langrehr of Hoisington and Gertrude Willinger of Hudson;
three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She was a preceded in death
by one brother Herbert Schade.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the church in Ellinwood, with the Rev.
David Wesner officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District
Cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today at the Kimple
Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, Ellinwood
Area Health Care Foundation or ElderCare, all in care of the funeral home.

Ronald Ray Henry 1938-2000
SEWARD - Ronald Ray Henry 62, died Oct. 15 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Feb. 14, 1938, in Great
Bend, the son of Ray and Edna Yingling Henry. He married Joyce K. Reisbig
May 9, 1965, in Great Bend. A resident of Seward, he was a grain elevator
manager for over 30 years.
Henry was a member of South Seward Township Board, Seward City Council and
Volunteer Fire Fighters, all of Great Bend. He was president and a member
of the St. John School Board.
Survivors include his wife of St. John; two daughters, Shari Rooks of
Wichita and Shelli Henry of Omaha, Neb.; three brothers, Richard Henry of
Houma, La., Steve "Pete" Henry and Terry "Pac" Henry, both of Great Bend;
two sisters Carol Dyer of Albert and Carmen Elsen of Parsons; and one
grandchild.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Minnis Chapel in St. John, with the
Rev. Rene Guesnier officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park Cemetery
in St. John. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Ronald Ray Henry Scholarship Fund at St. John
High School, in care of the funeral home.

Frederick Schlegal 1905-2000
OTIS - Frederick Schlegal, 95, died Oct. 12 in San Antonio, Texas. He was
born March 19, 1905, in Otis, the son of Conrad and Amelia Schlegal. He was
married to Opal Schlegal for 56 years. A Kansas resident for 93 years
before moving to San Antonio, he worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad
for 42 years.
Schlegal was a former member of Grace Community Church in Great Bend and a
member of Castle Hills First Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War
II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Carol Walter; and two
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, William Schlegal,
Immanuel Schlegal, Edward "Steve" Schlegal, Henry Schlegal and Sam
Schlegal; three sisters, Lena Schlegal, Martha Schlegal and Mollie Schlegal.
Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mission Park Funeral Home in San
Antonio with the Revs. Dr. George Harris and Silas Wood III officiating.
Burial will be at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. Friends may call from
10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. If friends desire,

Elsa Folkerts 1908-2000
NESS CITY - Elsa Folkerts, 92, died Oct. 13 at Central Kansas Medical
Center St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born March 14, 1908, in
Timken, the daughter of Adam and Mollie Wertz Schenk. She married Edward
Folkerts Feb. 15, 1973, at Hope Lutheran Church in the Rush Center. He died
June 28, 1973. A resident of Ness City since 1965, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Folkerts was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ness City and
Our Redeemer Ladies Aid.
Survivors include two sons, Duaine Folkerts of Jetmore and Alvin Folkerts
of Dodge City; two sisters, Mabel Price of Nekoma and Amanda Price of
Rozel; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by one daughter, Adrianne Reinert; one sister, Helen Burk; three
grandchildren; and one great-granchild.
Funeral was this morning at the church with the Rev. Jim Lohmeyer
officiating. Burial was at Peace Lutheran cemetery in Albert. Memorials are
suggested to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ness City, in care of the
funeral home.

Austin C. Widener 1920-2000
HUDSON - Austin C. Widener, 79, died Oct. 14 at the Hutchinson Hospital. He
was born Nov. 25, 1920, in rural Hudson, the son of Harry and Esther
Marchand Widener. He was a graduate of Stafford High School and received a
teaching certificate from Ottawa University. He married Bernice P. DeYoung
May 11, 1943, in Palco. A lifetime resident of Stafford County, he was a
farmer and stockman.
Widener was a member of First Baptist Church in Ellinwood. He was also a
church deacon and former Sunday school teacher. He was a U.S. Army veteran
of World War II European Theatre.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Austin Lee Widener of
Perry Okla., Keith L. Widener of Hudson and Monte E. Widener of Ellinwood;
one daughter, Gayla Asher of Ellinwood; one brother, Clede Widener of
Granada, Colo., two sisters, Yvonne Sittner of Hudson and Violet Kasselman
of Ellinwood; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one
brother, Derril Widener; and one sister, Darlene Schwartz.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in
Ellinwood with the Rev. David Wesner officiating. Burial will be at
Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 5-8
p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials are suggested to
the church or North American Baptist Seminary in care of the funeral home.
