Anna Elizabeth Reif 1904-2000
BEAVER - Anna Elizabeth Reif, 95, died Oct. 14 in Girard. She was born Dec.
27, 1904, in Beaver, the daughter of Jacob and Mary Meyeres Depiesse. She
married Louis E. Reif April 26, 1933, in Kansas City. He died Jan. 2, 1984.
A resident of the Beaver and Iuka communities most of her life prior to
moving to Cherokee and Girard, she was a nurse's aide and cook for Pratt
Nursing Home.
Mrs. Reif was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church and Alter Society
of Cherokee, St. Joseph Catholic Church and Alter Society in Beaver, Sacred
Heart Catholic Church and Alter Society in Pratt.
Survivors include three sons, Robert L. Reif and Marvin D. Reif both of
Wichita, and Julius H. Reif of Cherokee; five sisters, Dale Schremmer and
Jean Polzin, both of Hoisington, Margaret Elston of Lyons, Sidonia Bartlett
and Elsie Hinkley, both of Lakeside, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 15
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Jakie
Depiesse, John Depiesse, Lawrence Depiesse, Arthur Depiesse, Earl Depiesse
and Richard Depiesse; three sisters, Viola Depiesse, Marian Kuxhouse and
Georgia Hildreth; and one great-granchild, Ryan Chadd.
Vigil will be at 7 tonight at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church in
Odin with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will be at Holy Family
Cemetery in Odin. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today. Memorials are
suggested to the Holy Family cemetery or Alzheimer's Association in care of
the funeral home.

Nina M. Stone 1912-2000
KINSLEY - Nina M. Stone , 88, died Oct. 14 at her residence in Kinsley.
She was born April 16, 1912, in Mullinville, the daughter of David M. and
Carrie M. Hensley Price. She married George C. Stone May 23, 1929, in Dodge
City. A former resident of Alden, Raymond, and Albert, she was a homemaker
and retired Duckwalls.
Survivors include three sons, John Stone of Wichita, David Stone of Lee's
Summit and Jim Stone of Frederick, Md.; one brother, Ray Price of Alden;
one sister, Ola Long of Sylvia; eight grandchildren; and 13
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Carroll Stone
and Bob Stone; and one daughter, Kathryn Hackler.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Alden Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel
in Wichita. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association of
Kansas in care of the funeral home.

Vaughn E. Brown 1917-2000
GOODLAND - Vaughn E. Brown, 82, died Oct. 13 at the Hutchinson Hospital. He
was born Oct. 22, 1917, in Ottawa County. He grew up near Delphos and
attended a country school. He married Opal Briggs Oct. 22, 1938, in
Abilene. She died in June 2000. A longtime Goodland resident, moving to
Hutchinson in 1982, he owned and operated a restaurant in Minneapolis with
his wife, and worked for the city of Goodland Electrical Department where
he was a lineman for 25 years, retiring in 1982.
Vaughn was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a post
commander, American Legion, the Disabled American Vets, the Goodland
Masonic Bodies, the Isis Shrine, the Scottish Rite and the Minerva Chapter
of the Eastern Star 146 in Minneapolis. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving
in World War II and the Korean War. He was later in the Naval Reserves.
Survivors include two sons, Clinton Stone of Hutchinson and Richard Stone
of Great Bend; one sister, Myrna Lake of Big Fork, Mont.; five
grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by three
brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Goodland cemetery with
Military Honors. Friends may call from 8 a.m. until service time Tuesday at
the Bateman Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Kansas State
University Cancer Research Center in care of the funeral home.

Dorothy A. Ringering 1910-2000
ELLINWOOD - Dorothy A. Ringering, 90, died Oct. 15 at her home in rural
Ellinwood. She was born Aug. 4, 1910. Survivors and funeral arrangements
will be announced by Kimple Funeral Home of Ellinwood.

Colette M. Moeder 1917-2000
ODIN - Colette M. Moeder, 83, died Oct. 14 at Hoisington Rehabilitation
Center in Hoisington. She was born March 2, 1917, at Redwing, the daughter
of Henry and Anna Steiner Moeder. A lifetime resident of the Odin and
Hoisington area, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two
brothers, Julius Moeder and Pete Moeder; and four sisters, Regina
Duttlinger, Clara Moeder, Martha Hekele and Elsie Hill.
Family rosary will be at 4 p.m. today, followed at 5 p.m. by a vigil
service, all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral will be
at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Odin with the Rev.
Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will be at Holy Family cemetery in Odin.
Friends may call from 1-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Austin Widener 1920-2000
HUDSON - Austin Widener, 79, died Oct. 14 at Hutchinson Hospital. He was
born Nov. 25, 1920. Funeral arrangements are pending with Kimple Funeral
Home in Ellinwood.

JoAnna Knight 1937-2000
LYONS - JoAnna Knight, 63, died Oct. 12 at Good Samaritan Center in Lyons.
She was born March 30, 1937, in Lyons, the daughter of Joe and Edith Bingle
McCoy. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1955 and attended Hutchinson
Community College and Garden City Community College. She married Kenneth
Knight June 9, 1957, in Lyons. A lifetime resident of Lyons, she was a
homemaker.
Mrs. Knight was a member of First Christian Church, Christian Women?s
Fellow-ship, Li-Ar-Mu, all of Lyons, and Kansas Cattle Women and taught
Sunday school for many years.
Survivors include three sons, Phil Knight and Mark Knight, both of Lyons,
and John Knight of Blue Springs, Mo.; two daughters, Kathy Maxwell of
Manhattan and Judi Hutton of Wichita; one brother, Warren McCoy of
Marysville; one sister, Jane Laughlin of Kansas City; and 14 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Hutton.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Tom Eastman
officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call
from 2-6 p.m. today at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons, with the family
receiving friends from 2-4 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Rice County
Community Foundation, in care of the funeral home.

George A. OCorky? Smith 1939-2000
AURORA, Colo. - George A. ?Corky? Smith, 61, died Oct. 9 at his home in
Aurora. He was born May 17, 1939, in Lamar, Colo. He was a 1958 graduate of
Lamar High School. He married Mary Clark Smith July 7, 1993, in Broomfield,
Colo. A resident of Aurora, he was retired.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Shelley R. Coleman
and Angie Baker, both of Westcliffe, Colo.; three step-sons, Chris Link of
Ft. Riley, Cory Link and Brian Link, both of Wichita; one step-daughter,
Heather Link of Wichita; one sister, Diena Ellis of Apple Valley, Calif.;
and two granddaughters.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Gateway Christian Church in Aurora. The
body was cremated. Aurora Mortuary in Aurora is in charge of arrangements.

Genevieve 'Genie' Steffan 1919-2000
ELLINWOOD - Genevieve "Genie" Steffan, 81, died Oct. 11 at Central Kansas
Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Sept. 25, 1919,
at St. Leo, the daughter of Adolph L. and Elizabeth Adelhardt Steffan. A
resident of Ellinwood for 27 years, she was a retired St. Joseph's school
cook and a housekeeper for the Rev. Robert Herklotz for 37 years.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Altar Society, Daughters
of Isabella, Extension Homemakers Unit, Ellinwood Garden Club and Heritage
Club, all of Ellinwood.
Survivors include three sisters, Virginia Neises of St. Mark's, Rita McKedy
and Vickie Kisner, both of Wichita. She was preceded in death by two
brothers, Harold Steffan and Jack Steffan.
Altar Society rosary will be at 3 p.m. today at Kimple Funeral Home in
Ellinwood. Parish wake service will be at 7 tonight at the church. Funeral
will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Revs. James J. Roth,
Gilbert Herrman, Loren Werth, and Joseph Bahr officiating. Commital service
will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Leo Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8
p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph's
School Endowment or Heritage Club, both in care of the funeral home.

Margaret Evans 1919-2000
HUTCHINSON - Margaret Evans, 80, died Oct. 11 at Andover Health Care
Center. She was born Oct. 25, 1919, in Spearville, the daughter of Lambert
and Elizabeth Hall Kern. She was a graduate of St. Teresa High School. She
married John Royal Evans March 25, 1940, in Hutchinson. He died Nov. 16,
1995. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she was a quilter and a homemaker.
Mrs. Evans was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church and the Altar
Society, both of Hutchinson.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas "Tom" G. Evans of Big Bear Lake, Calif.,
and Richard Evans of Wichita; one brother, Raymond Kern of Hutchinson; one
sister, Irene Schawe of Great Bend; seven grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be 6 p.m. Sunday at Johnson and Sons Funeral Home in
Hutchinson. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev.
Richard Stuchlik officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery in
Hutchinson. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the
funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral
home.
