Albert L. Nettleingham 1924-2000
SPENCER, Okla. - Albert L. Nettleingham, 76, died Nov. 15 at Norman
Regional Hospital in Norman, Okla. He was born Nov. 1, 1924, in Hoisington,
the son of Guy and Amelia Nuss Nettleingham. He married Gladys M. Roehrich
June 13, 1948, in Hoisington. She died Sept. 13, 1983. A resident of
Spencer, he was a farmer and retired owner of Nettleingham Trucking in
Oklahoma.
Nettleingham was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Oklahoma City.
Survivors include one son, Steve Nettleingham of Harrah, Okla.; one
brother, LaVerne Nettleingham of Olmitz; and two grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by one sister, Marlene Morrison.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church in
Hoisington with the Rev. Garry Dassow officiating. Burial will be at
Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time
Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer
Society, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.

Joseph B. 'Joe' Desemo 1935-2000
Joseph B. "Joe" Desemo, 65, died Nov. 15 at Central Kansas Medical Center,
St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born July 21, 1935, in Larned, the
son of Joseph Anthony and Cloe Cecelia Bordewick Desemo. He married Shirley
L. Wurm Aug. 10, 1954, in Larned. A resident of Great Bend, coming from
Loveland, Colo., he was a retired registered respiratory therapist in
Greeley, Colo.
Survivors include one son, Dan L. Desemo of Great Bend; three daughters,
Debi Behee of Dodge City, Jennifer Turk of Carlsbad, Texas, and Ann Baca of
Albuquerque, N.M.; three sisters, Mary Ann Schartz of Larned, Sue Dundas
and Sarah Knoche, both of Longmont, Colo.; and nine grandchildren.
Prayer service at 7 tonight at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great
Bend. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the
Rev. Warren Stecklein officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery.
Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time at the
funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or
to donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home.

Peggy Joyce Mattocks 1934-2000
HOISINGTON - Peggy Joyce Mattocks, 66, died Nov. 16 at Clara Barton
Hospital in Hoisington. She was born June 18, 1934. Friends may call after
3 p.m. Saturday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Survivors
and funeral arrangements will be announced by the funeral home.

Virginia S. Fry 1909-2000
NEWTON - Virginia S. Fry, 91, died Nov. 11 at Kansas Christian Home in
Newton. She was born Aug. 17, 1909, in Pawnee Rock, the daughter of Garfield
and Mary B. Bruce Smith. She graduated from Fort Hays College in 1929, and
did post-graduate work at Emporia State College and Colorado State
University. She married Fred H. Fry Nov. 30, 1932, in Pawnee Rock. He died
Dec. 30, 1998. A resident of Newton, she was a elementary school teacher for
Pawnee Rock for 25 years.
Mrs. Fry was a former member of the Christian Church of Pawnee Rock and
First Christian Church in Great Bend. She was a member of Delta Kappa
Gamma.
Survivors include one son, Ralph Fry of Tacoma, Wash.; one brother, Bruce G.
Smith of Newton; one sister, Gwendolyn Zimmerman of Emporia; three
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church in Great Bend
with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Pawnee Rock
Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight at Peterson Funeral Home in
Newton and from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorials are
suggested to the Kansas Christian Home or the Fellowship of John Caring
Fund, both in care of the funeral home.

Clifford Barton Riddle 1923-2000
PAWNEE ROCK - Clifford Barton Riddle, 77, died Nov. 14 at Central Kansas
Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Aug. 11, 1923, in
Tindall, Mo., the son of Ed B. and Mable Hopkins Riddle. He married Dorothy
L. Wetzel Sept. 11, 1950, in Woodward, Okla. A resident of Pawnee Rock for
33 years, coming from Great Bend, he was a truck driver and security guard
for Doonan Truck and Equipment Inc. in Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Cliff Riddle of Aurora,
Colo., Richard D. Riddle of Burlingame and Donnie E. Riddle of Wellington;
four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three
stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Glen
Riddle; and one sister, Helen Riddle Smith.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in Great
Bend. Burial will be at Pawnee Rock Cemetery. Friends may call until 9
tonight, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, and from 9 a.m. until service time
Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung
Association or the American Heart Association, both in care of the funeral
home.

Victor H. OVic? Hallman 1931-2000
HUTCHINSON - Victor H. ?Vic? Hallman, 69, died Nov. 14 at his home in
Hutchinson. He was born April 17, 1931, in Hudson, the son of Hugo F. and
Hattie Schulz Hallman. He was a 1949 graduate of Hudson High School and a
1956 graduate of Fort Hays State University. He married Jeanette Pohlman
June 24, 1956, in Ellinwood. A longtime resident of Hutchinson, he was a
employed by American Family Insurance for 35 years.
Hallman was a member of First Presbyterian Church, American Legion Lysle
Rishel Post 68, Reno Masonic Lodge 124 A.F. and A.M., tReno County Shrine
Scooter Patrol, all of Hutchinson, and Midian Shrine of Wichita. He was a
U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; one son, Brian Hallman of
Sugarland, Texas; two daughters, Denise Prull of Monticello, Iowa, and Terri
McQueen of Olathe; one brother, Edgar Hallman of Overland Park; and five
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Anderson.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Dr. Ronald E.
Holland officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity Cemetery
in Hudson. Friends may call until 9 tonight at Elliott Mortuary in
Hutchinson. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Reno County or the
Shriner?s Crippled Childrens Hospital, both in care of the funeral home.

Lila Alberta Downing 1906-2000
MAIZE - Lila Alberta Downing, 94, died Nov. 15 in Ellinwood. She was born
Oct. 9, 1906, in rural Maize, the daughter of James and Emma McClure Rush.
She married Stephen Holcome Downing Oct. 9, 1929. He died in 1968. A
resident of Ellinwood, she was head janitor for Maize Junior and Senior High
Schools. She was a bus driver and substitute teacher for the Maize School
District.
Mrs. Downing was a member of Maize United Methodist Church and the Young at
Heart.
Survivors include one son, Jimmie Downing of Ellinwood; and one daughter,
Shirley Horrell of Roscoe, Ill.; six grandchildren; and several
great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the church in Maize with the Rev. Judy
Ramsey officiating. Burial will be at Maize Park Cemetery. Friends may call
from 2-3 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church,
in care of Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood.

Norma Herold Colvin 1922-2000
ELLINWOOD - Norma Herold Colvin, 78, died Nov. 15 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Feb. 21, 1922, in
Ellinwood, the daughter of Charles R. and Selma Held Herold. She married
W.M. ?Bill? Colvin June 17, 1957, in Ellinwood. He died Jan. 25, 1994. A
lifetime resident of Ellinwood, she was a homemaker and professional
secretary, retiring in 1994.
Mrs. Colvin was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, the Book Club,
Bridge Club and Ellinwood Garden Club, all of Ellinwood.
Survivors include one son, Bruce Colvin of New York City, N.Y.; one
daughter, Lynn Huncovsky of Agenda; one brother, Don Herold of Great Bend;
two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
one brother, Richard Herold.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Larry Young
officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in
Ellinwood. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Friday at Kimple Funeral Home in
Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to the Church Foundation or the Ambulance
Fund or Woodhaven, all in care of the funeral home.

Father William A. Vogel 1923-2000
KINSLEY - Father William A. Vogel, 77, died Nov. 14 of an apparent heart
attack while hunting with friends near Spearville. He was born Jan. 18,
1923, in Wright, the son of Frank H. and Elizabeth Koechner Vogel. He was
pastor of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Kinsley and St. Joseph Catholic
Church in Offerle.
He was ordained to the priesthood April 20, 1949, by Bishop Mark K. Carroll
at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Wright. His assignments in the Diocese of
Wichita were St. Mary?s, Newton and Blessed Sacrament in Wichita. In the
Diocese of Dodge City, the Rev. Vogel served as chaplain at St. Joseph?s
Hospital and Larned State Hospital, both of Larned. His pastoral assignments
include: St. John in St. John, St. Francis in Seward, Holy Family in Odin,
Sacred Heart in Pratt, St. Rose of Lima in Great Bend, St. John The Baptist
in Spearville, Immaculate Heart of Mary in Windthorst, Our Lady of Guadalupe
in Dodge City, St. Stanislaus in Ingalls and St. George in Bucklin. He was
currently serving the congregations of Kinsley and Offerle since 1994. He
served as state chaplin for both Knights of Columbus and Daughters of
Isabella and was a member of the Ministerial Association in Kinsley.
During his priesthood he held the following curial positions: Diocesan youth
director, director of the Newman Apostolate, Great Bend moderator of
Diocesan Council of Council Women, school board, dean of the Great Bend
deanery, consultor and member of Presbyteral Council and spiritual director
of the Diocesan Blue Army.
Survivors include three sisters, Loretta Baker and Irene Casey, both of
Dodge City, and Sister Jeanette Vogel, CSJ, of Wichita. He was preceded in
death by six brothers, Patrick Vogel, Henry Vogel, the Rev. Oscar Vogel,
Herman Vogel, Leo Vogel and Francis Vogel; two sisters, Margaret Stein and
Sister Dominica Vogel, CSJ.
Rosary will be at 4 p.m. today, vigil service will be at 7 tonight, followed
by the Knights of Columbus Rosary, all at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in
Kinsley. Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the church with Bishop
Ronald M. Gilmore officiating. Burial will be at St. Andrew cemetery in
Wright. Friends may call until 2 p.m. today at Burkhart Funeral Chapel in
Dodge City, from 4-7 p.m. today at the church and from 10:30 a.m. until 2
p.m. Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Cathedral Building
Campaign or St. Nicholas School Endowment Fund, both in care of the funeral
chapel.
