Earl W. Booth 1916-2001
HOISINGTON - Earl W. Booth, 85, died March 31 at Hoisington Rehabilitation Center in Hoisington. He was born Jan. 30, 1916, in Sedalia, Mo., the son of Earl and Hattie Thompson Booth. He married Marjorie Ellen Hartman Feb. 13, 1951, in La Crosse. She died April 1, 1971. A resident of Susank, he was a pumper for NCRA, retiring in 1978. Booth was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6240 of Russell. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II veteran, and was the recipient of a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and WW II Victory Medal. Survivors include two sons, Randy W. Booth of Hoisington and Richard E. Booth of Bartlesville, Okla.; five daughters, Darlene Nulton of Hoisington, Brenda Summerville of Grandbury, Texas, Chris Wornkey of Ellinwood, Roberta Wagner of Aurora, Colo., and Terry Crayne of Nevarre, Fla.; two sisters, Gaye Wallace of Sarasota, Fla., and Vivian Page of Aurora; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, B.C, Booth. Memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Cremation has taken place and a private inurnment will be at a later time in the Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, both at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home. April 2, 2001

Douglas 'Fonz' Farnsworth 1948-2001
KILLEEN, Texas - Douglas "Fonz" Farnsworth, 51, died March 30 at his home in Killeen. He was born July 30, 1948, in Hoisington, the son of Kenneth and Ruby Carroll Farnsworth. He married Karen Wyatt in 1992 in Killeen. A resident of Killeen, coming from Kansas, he was a vehicle-maintenance technician at Fort Hood, Texas. Farnsworth was a U.S. Army veteran, serving for 20 years before retiring as a sergeant first class in 1987. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Christopher Johnson of Killeen; two daughters, Suki Farnsworth of Walkerville, Texas, and Kayleigh Johnson of Killeen; two brothers, Michael Farnsworth of Decatur, Ill., and Terry Farnsworth of Gentry, Ark. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen with the Rev. Joda Weston officiating. Burial will be at Garden of Memories cemetery in Killeen. Friends may call from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home. April 2, 2001

Gilbert J. Toman Sr. 1926-2001
HESSTON - Gilbert J. Toman Sr., 74, died March 30 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. He was born Sept. 12, 1926, in Ellsworth County, the son of Joseph Herman and Rose Edna Shanelec Toman. He married Marjorie Mae Bender Dec. 24, 1946, at Ellsworth. She died Aug. 1, 1975. A resident of Hesston since 1999, coming from Halstead and Holyrood, he was a retired petroleum technician for Kansas Corporation Commission. Toman was a member of American Legion Post 200 of Holyrood, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6485 of Ellsworth and Kansas Heart Association. He was past American Legion District 6 commander and on the American Legion alternate national executive committee. Survivors include three sons, Gib Toman and Dan Toman, both of Halstead, and Ron Toman of Olathe; three daughters, Karen Rudiger of League City, Texas, Joyce Du Bois of Halstead and Debra Cameron of Canton; one brother, Robert Toman of Ellsworth; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Leon Toman and Richard Toman; two brothers, Joseph Toman and William Toman; and one sister, Marian Kepka. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead with the Rev. James Mardock officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ellsworth Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Schowalter Villa, in care of the funeral home. April 1, 2001

Tamra D. Stremel 1963-2001
ELLINWOOD - Tamra D. Stremel, 37, died March 31 at home. She was born May 31, 1963, in Ellinwood, the daughter of Roger Duane and Janis Virginia Libby Stremel. A lifetime Ellinwood resident, she was employed by Family Foods and Kids' N Care, and did custodial work for Adams, Brown, Beran and Bell. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar Society, both of Ellinwood. Survivors include her parents of Ellinwood; three brothers, Scott D. Stremel of Wichita, Daniel M. Stremel of Dodge City and Douglas A. Stremel of Lawrence; and her grandmother, Maxine Stremel of Hutchinson. Altar Society rosary will be at 3 p.m. today at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Vigil service will be at 7 tonight at St. Joseph Church in Ellinwood. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Revs. Ronald M. Gilmore, David A. Flagor and John J. Maes officiating. Burial will be at Lakin Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph's School Endowment or Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, in care of the funeral home. April 1, 2001

Cleopha 'Cleo' Breit 1918-2001
HAYS - Cleopha "Cleo" Breit, 82, died March 31 at Hays Medical Center. She was born Aug. 25, 1918, at Liebenthal, the daughter of Martin M. and Elizabeth Basgall Herrman. She married Anthony Breit on Oct. 8, 1935, in Pfeifer. He died Oct. 15, 1997. A Hays resident, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Breit was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Hays. Survivors include her two sons, Vern Breit of Hays and Robert Breit of Las Vegas, Nev.; five sisters, Tina Schreiner, Mary Schmidt, Alfreda Burgardt, Dorothy Werth and Josephine Zimmerman, all of Hays; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Herrman, and one sister, Pauline Herrman. Parish vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hays. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Michael Suchnicki officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery of Hays. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. today and from 9-9:45 a.m. Monday, both at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the charity of donor's choice, in care of the funeral home. April 1, 2001

Nima M. Mellick 1906-2001
LA CROSSE - Nima M. Mellick, 95, of La Crosse, died March 30 at Rush County Nursing Home in La Crosse. She was born February 22, 1906, at Bison, the daughter of John and Anna Elizabeth Scheuerman Schwindt. She attended Bison schools. She married Noel Wesley Mellick Nov. 11, 1922, in Larned. He died Oct. 18, 1992. A lifetime resident of Rush County, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Mellick was a member of Church of Christ in Hays. Survivors include one son, Thayne Mellick of Kinsley; two daughters, Noma Reeves of La Crosse, and Marcine Durrant of College Station, Texas; three sisters, Hannah Auston of La Crosse, Minnie Nicoll of Denver, Colo., and Ethel Duncan of Coal Hill, Ark.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one grandson, one brother and five sisters. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hays with the Rev. Tony Dominguez officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse City Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-5 p.m. on Monday and from 1 p.m. until service time on Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home. April 1, 2001

James J. Homolka 1911-2001
CLAFLIN - James J. Homolka, 89, died March 31 at Ellsworth County Medical Center in Ellsworth. He was born Sept. 6, 1911, in Barton County, the son of Peter L. and Anna Marie Jezek Homolka. He married Edith M. Beasley Oct. 9, 1948, in Gove. She preceded him in death. A lifetime resident of Ellsworth and Barton counties, he was a retired farmer and stockman. Homolka was a member of United Methodist Church of Claflin, Claflin Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Palacky cemetery board, township board, past Holyrood Co-op board member and president, past church board member, past Farm Bureau board and past Barton County Extension Service board. Survivors include one son, James A. Homolka of Holyrood; two daughters, Joann Klug of Springfield, Mo., and Alice Lynn Donley of Ellsworth; one sister, Helen Homolka of Holyrood; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Janet Myers officiating. Burial will be at Palacky cemetery in rural Holyrood with Masonic graveside rites. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today and from 8-10 a.m. Monday, both at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth, and from 1-2 p.m. Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home. April 1, 2001

Judson 'Beck' Hart 2000-2001
MANHATTAN - Judson "Beck" Hart, 9 months, died March 28 at Mercy Health Center emergency room in Manhattan from sudden infant death syndrome. He was born June 12, 2000, in Manhattan, the son of Jim L. and April S. Wagnon Hart. Survivors include his parents of the home; and four grandparents, Tom and Doris Hart of Westmoreland and Jerry and Wanda Wagnon of Great Bend. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel in Manhattan with the Rev. Jim Newman officiating. Memorials are suggested to the American Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Institute, in care of the funeral chapel. April 1, 2001

Pauline W. Brack 1906-2001
OTIS - Pauline W. Brack, 94, died March 29 at Hays Medical Center. She was born May 11, 1906, in Brunethal, Russia, the daughter of Jacob and Anna Katherina Becker Weber. She married Jacob Benjamin Brack Oct. 27, 1927, in Otis. He died Feb. 23, 1953. A resident of Otis, she was a farmer. Mrs. Brack was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Otis, Barton County Farm Bureau and AARP. Survivors include one son, Harold U. Brack of Otis; one daughter, Alta E. Spencer of Woodward, Okla.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Margaret Gary officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Church cemetery in Otis. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Joanne L. Reeves 1944-2001
OBERLIN - Joanne L. Reeves, 56, died May 28 at her residence in Oberlin. She was born Dec. 2, 1944, in Spokane, Wash., the daughter of John and Eleanor Pelz Riedl. She was a 1963 graduate of Hoisington High School and attended Wichita Business School. She married James Reeves Feb. 13, 1971. A resident of Oberlin, coming from Hoisington, she worked at Piper Aircraft, Petroleum Incorporated and as a librarian at the Oberlin City Library. Survivors include her husband of the home; her mother; one son, Robert Reeves of Manhattan; one daughter, Wendy Reeves of Seattle, Wash; and two brothers, John Riedl of Hoisington and Frank Riedl of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Riedl. Funeral will be at 2 today at Paul's Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating. There will be a private family inurnment. Memorials are suggested to the Oberlin City Library or the Center for Basic Cancer Research, Kansas State University Foundation Center, both in care of the funeral home. May 31, 2001

Una Irene Sewing 1912-2001
MACKSVILLE - Una Irene Sewing, 88, died May 28 at Leisure Homestead in St. John. She was born Dec. 14, 1912, in Macksville, the daughter of Walter and Effie Dutton. She was a graduate of Belpre High School. She married Henry August Sewing Sept. 23, 1938. He preceded her in death. A resident of St. John, coming from Macksville, she was a farmer. Mrs. Sewing was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Macksville and Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon McGowan of Tulsa, Okla.; and two sisters, Wilma Spain of Las Vegas, Nev., and Vivian Martin of Wichita. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl Dutton, Harold Dutton and Ira Dutton. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Revs. David Upp and Dennis Dutton officiating. Burial will be at Farmington Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight at Minnis Chapel in St. John. Memorials are suggested to the church or Youthville of Newton, both in care of the chapel. May 30, 2001

Bernadine Hazel Caley Garber 1923-2001
COUNCIL GROVE - Bernadine Hazel Caley Garber, 78, died May 28 at the Stafford District Hospital in Stafford. She was born June 7, 1923, in Diamond Springs, the daughter of Donald Albert and Ruth Alice Phillips Monroe. She married Donald E. Caley Jan. 5, 1941, in Alta Vista. He died July 4, 1994. She married Errol Garber April 12, 1997, in Council Grove. A resident of Council Grove, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Garber was a member of First Baptist Church, Sunday school teacher, board member of the Community Thrift Store, Extension Homemakers Unit, P.O.W. Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, past member of the Rebekah's and community volunteer, all of Council Grove. Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Larry Caley of Stafford and Gary Caley of Topeka; one stepson, Errol L. Garber of Mt. Vernon, Mo.; two brothers, Herbert Monroe of Salina and James Monroe of Pine Bluff, Ark.; three sisters, Ina Atchinson of Campbell, Calif., Ruth Cottrell and Linda Estes, both of Overland Park; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Caley; one daughter, Maurena Caley; and two brothers, Donald Monroe and Leo Monroe. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery in Council Grove. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Kendall Funeral Chapel in Council Grove. Ruth Casey 1915-2001
LUBBOCK, Texas - Ruth Casey, 85, died May 28 at Carillon House in Lubbock. She was born Sept. 6, 1915, in Cash, Texas. She married Landon Coffman July 9, 1932, in Hollis, Okla. He preceded her in death. She married Charles Casey April 16, 1940, in Shamrock, Texas. He died May 16, 1959. A resident of Lubbock, coming from Hoisington, she owned an interior decorating business in Hoisington. Mrs. Casey was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hoisington. Survivors include two sons, Charles Michael Casey of Palm Springs, Calif., and Jimmy Landon Coffman of Nogales, Mexico; two daughters, Rita Ruth Grove of Williamsburg, Va., and Reba Delores Moore of Littlefield, Texas; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Neil Chapel of the Carillon House in Lubbock with the Revs. Bobby Broyles and Bonner Teeter officiating. Burial will be at Littlefield Memorial Park. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Hammons Funeral Home in Littlefield. May 30, 2001
