Charles Jay Parker 1956-2001
STAFFORD - Charles Jay Parker, 45, died Oct. 20 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born March 18, 1956, in Stafford, the son of William H. and Doris McKinney Parker. He was a graduate of Macksville High School and attended Dodge City Community College. He married Ginny Hendershot July 28, 1979, in Wakeeney. A resident of Stafford for 10 years, he worked as a certified crop specialist for Zenith Co-op for 10 years and was a salesman for Moss Sales and Service in Salina. Parker was a member of Pleasant Hill Church of the Nazarene in Sylvia, eight year member of Promise Keepers and six year member of Stafford USD 349 Board of Education. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Adam C. Parker of McPherson and Andrew C. Parker of the home; two daughters, Libby M. Parker and Sarah B. Parker, both of the home; his mother of Stafford; and three brothers, Bob Parker of Tulsa, Okla., Jerry Parker of Indianapolis, Ind. and David Parker of New Braunfels, Texas. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. John Miller officiating. Burial will be at Hopewell cemetery in Hopewell. There is no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Parker Children Education Fund, established by Moss Sales and Service, in care of Minnis Chapel in Stafford. Oct. 22, 2001

Catarino Rubio 1923-2001
HOISINGTON - Catarino Rubio, 78, died Oct. 20 at his residence in Hoisington.
He was born April 30, 1923, in Alamagordo, N.M., the son of Willie and Emelia Maciel Rubio.
He married Mary L. Arguello Sept. 11, 1944, in Raton, N.M.
A resident of Hoisington, coming from Pueblo, Colo., he worked for both Union Pacific Railroad and Santa Fe Railroad and retired from Hoisington Cheese Plant.
Rubio was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Martin Rubio of Hoisington and Johnny Rubio of Rushville, Pa.; seven daughters, Josephine Merchant of Seaside, Calif., Frances Hoch, Kathy Noblitt and Bernice Baker, all of Hoisington, Irene Gallentine of Long Beach, Miss., Ramona Hoch of Hoisington and Juanita Heinrich of Great Bend; three sisters, Alberta Berunda of Long Beach, Calif., Antonia Medina of Denver, Colo., and Jessie Delgado of Denver, Colo.; 31 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Willie Rubio; four brothers; three sisters; and three grandchildren.
Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating.
Burial will be at St. John cemetery in Hoisington.
Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, all at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home. Oct. 22, 2001

DeVera L. 'Dee' Putnam 1929-2001
HAVEN - DeVera L. "Dee" Putnam, 72, died Oct. 18 at Hospice Residential Care Center in Hutchinson. She was born June 29, 1929, at Sterling, the daughter of Ralph E. and Eva L. Liggett Dickerson. A resident of Haven for 31 years coming from Avant, Okla., she worked for RCEC at Farris School for 10 years, RCEC-EMH Class at Elreka School, she was store manager for Haven Little Store, and was a certified dietary manager for 11 years at Haven Training Center, Haviland Rehabilitation Center and Medicine Lodge Training Center. She worked with the American Red Cross Senior Work Experience Program as an aid at the Haven Public Library. She was a member of the Haven Baptist Church, the Haven Woman's Club and The Flying Needle Club of Mount Hope; she was secretary for the Wichita district. of National Dietary Managers Association. Survivors include seven sons, Michael Wyer of Hutchinson, Garry Wyer and Robert Wyer, both of Haven, Kenneth Wyer and Ralph David Wyer, both of Buhler, Glenn Wyer of Wichita and Mark Putnam of Pretty Prairie; one daughter, Patricia A. Gould of Haven; two brothers, R.M. Dickinson of Denver, Colo., and Virgil Nelson of Nickerson; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church in Haven with the Rev. Dean Flanner officiating. Burial will be at Laurel cemetery in Haven. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. today at Van Campen Funeral Home in Haven. Memorials are suggested to the church or Reno County Hospice Residential Care Center, both in care of the funeral home. Oct. 21, 2001

Dolores A. Herrman 1928-2001
LA CROSSE - Dolores A. Herrman, 73, died Oct. 19 at Hays. She was born July 25, 1928, in Pfeifer, the daughter of Martin and Pauline Leiker Degenhardt. She married Wilbert A. Herrman June 23, 1947, in Liebenthal. He died April 10, 1993. A resident of Liebenthal since 1947, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Herrman was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. Ann's Altar Society, both of Liebenthal. Survivors include one son, Darryl Herrman of La Crosse; two daughters, Janett Rogers of Liebenthal, and Kathy Tomlinson of McCracken; two brothers, the Rev. Gervase Degenhardt of Pittsburg, Pa., and Martin Degenhardt of Gautier, Miss.; five sisters, Viola Sack, Esther Burgardt, Verna Schumacher, all of Hays, Joyce Pfeifer of Liebenthal and Veronica Ditto of Everman, Texas; four grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren. Prayer service will be at 7 tonight at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse, followed at 7:30 p.m. by a St. Ann's Altar Society Rosary. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Revs. Gervase Degenhardt and Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery in Liebenthal. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Liebenthal Heritage Association or Masses for Dolores, both in care of the funeral home. Oct. 21, 2001

Nancy Rose Herrman 1947-2001
Nancy Rose Herrman, 54, of Great Bend died Oct. 18 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born May 8, 1947, at Garden City, Mich., the daughter of Elmer and Phyllis Barck Arquette. She married James Herrman Oct. 26, 1977, in Glendale, Ariz. A resident of Great Bend since 1996, coming from Nanjemoy, Md., she was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband of the home; her parents of Garden City, Mich.; one brother, Elmer Arquette Jr. of Dearburn, Mich,; two sisters, Debbie Arquette and Lori Neal, both of Garden City, Mich. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Garden City, Mich. Burial will be at Cadillac Memorial West cemetery in Westland, Mich. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home. Oct. 21, 2001

Emmett 'Johnny' Kasselman 1917-2001
PAWNEE ROCK - Emmett "Johnny" Kasselman, 84, died Oct. 19 at Larned Health Care and Living Center in Larned. He was April 30, 1917, in Stafford County, the son of Henry and Sophia Dahm Kasselman. He married Norma Argyle June 5, 1937, in Ellinwood. A resident of Pawnee Rock since 1946, he was a retired farmer and stockman. Kasselman was a member of Pawnee Rock Methodist Church and Eagles Lodge in Great Bend. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Keith Kasselman of Pawnee Rock, Willard Kasselman of Olsburg and Elmer Kasselman of Larned; one daughter, Edna Dutton of Yuma, Ariz.; one sister, Leona Keeler of Ellinwood; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Orville Kasselman and Melvin Kasselman; and one sister, Margaret Korth. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned with the Rev. Bill Wolf officiating. Burial will be at Pawnee Rock cemetery in Pawnee Rock. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Monday and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday, all at the mortuary. Landon Tate Unruh 1989-2001
Landon Tate Unruh, 12, of Great Bend, died Oct. 19 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend, as the result of a accident. He was born June 24, 1989, in Wichita, the son of Rick and Tamela Langhover Unruh. A resident of Great Bend for nine years, coming from Wichita, he was a seventh-grade student at Great Bend Middle School. Unruh was a member of Assembly of God Church, Great Bend Middle School Football Team, Golden Belt Track Team, Great Bend Mariners and Seventh-grade Great Bend Panthers, all of Great Bend, the Wichita Cardinals and the McPherson Astros. Survivors include his parents of the home; two brothers, Dake Unruh and Darian Unruh, both of the home; his grandparents, Loren and Gayle Unruh of Great Bend, Duane and Pamela Langhover of Valley Center; his great-grandmothers, Eldine Shaw of Valley Center and Gladys Weathers of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Connie Yeubanks Unruh. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Revs. J.P. McCamey and Joseph Voss. Burial will be at Great Bend. Friends may call from 5-9 tonight, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, and from 9 a. m. until noon Tuesday, all at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Ora Francis Keenan 1919-2001
Ora Francis Keenan, 82, of Great Bend, died Oct. 17 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Aug. 11, 1919, in Seward, the son of Patrick L. and Mary Hall Keenan. He married Marieda Gleason June 7, 1941, in Kinsley. A resident of Great Bend for 26 years, coming from Seward, he was a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1981. He also worked as a carpenter. Keenan was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Great Bend, coached Little Leage Baseball in Seward, and was a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Jerry L. Keenan of Ada, Okla., Don George Keenan of St. John and Mark A. Keenan of Longwood, Fla.; two daughters, Mary L. Elliott of Lewisville, Texas, and Anne Steinbacher of Great Bend; five brothers, Robert Keenan, Larry Keenan, Patrick Keenan and Dennis Keenan, all of Great Bend, and Terry Keenan of Ness City; three sisters, Mary Louise Dale of Great Bend, June Klepper of Ellinwood and Gloria Ball of Seattle, Wash.; two stepbrothers, Donald Folkerts of Concordia and David Folkerts of Great Bend; two stepsisters, Glenna Rose Row of Kansas City and Georgie Ann Bauer of Pawnee Rock; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Lane F. Keenan and Ray M. Keenan; one daughter, Debra J. Keenan; two brothers, Paul Keenan and Russell Bub Keenan; one sister, Sylvia Chadd Langer; and one stepsister, Evelyn Mazierkowitz. Vigil service will be at 7:30 tonight, followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary, both at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Revs. Warren Stecklein and Rene Guesnier officiating. Burial will be at St. Francis Xavier cemetery in Seward, with full military honors. Friends may call until 9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Great Bend American Legion Baseball Fund, in care of the funeral home. Oct. 19, 2001

Madeleine Mae Hickel 1930-2001
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Madeleine Mae Hickel, 70, died Oct. 14 at her home in Anchorage, after a lengthy illness. She was born Dec. 21, 1930, in Emporia, the daughter of Hoyt and Jeannette Hamilton. She was a 1948 graduate of Claflin High School. She married Vernon W. Hickel in January 1949. A resident of Anchorage since 1948, coming from Claflin, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Hickel was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Church, Catholic Daughters and Catholics United for the Faith, all of Anchorage. Survivors include her husband of the home; seven sons, James Hickel of Corpus Christi, Texas, Paul Hickel of Alpharetta, Ga., Peter Hickel, Vernon E. Hickel, Donald Hickel and Raymond Hickel, all of Anchorage, and Daniel Hickel of Mesa, Ariz.; eight daughters, Judith Helzer, Roberta Zipay, Marilyn Walker and Jeannette Hickel, all of Anchorage, Kathy Headlough and Mary McMillian, both of Salina; Karen Burger of Soldotna, Alaska, and Victoria Elliott of Queen Creek, Ariz.; 53 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Anthony Hickel; and one daughter, Theresa Ann Hickel Milazzo. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Cathedral in Anchorage, with the Archbishop Roger Schwietz and Archbishop Emeritus Francis T. Hurley officiating. Burial will be at Angelus Memorial Park in Anchorage. Friends may call from 4-7:30 tonight at Evergreen Memorial Chapel in Anchorage. VALLEY CENTER - Charles Nolan Gorham, 56, died Oct. 18 in Wichita. He was born Feb. 15, 1945, in Bremerton, Wash., the son of Charles Irvin and Margaret Hanstine Gorham. He married Verla Rae Warnken June 6, 1966, in Great Bend. A resident of Valley Center, he worked as an automotive parts salesman. Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Kim Gorham of Santa Monica, Calif.; his mother of Newton; and one brother, Gary Gorham of Cape Girardeau, Mo. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Valley Center Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Bobby Massey officiating. There is no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Baker Funeral Home in Valley Center. Oct. 19, 2001
