Karen Kay Sheldon-Norwood 1946-2001
BURLINGTON, Colo. - Karen Kay Sheldon-Norwood, 54, died Aug. 25 at Kit
Carson County Memorial Hospital in Burlington. She was born Nov. 25, 1946,
in Alliance, Neb., the daughter of James and Mary Spring. She married
Richard Norwood Aug. 25, 2001. A resident of Burlington, coming from Colby,
she worked for Service Oil Company Travel Shoppe in Colby for 13 years.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Robert Spring of
Wichita and J.D. Sheldon of Otis; two daughters, Debbie Glenn and Deadra
Schlotthauer, both of Ellinwood; and four grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by one son, Edward Paul Sheldon.
Funeral was Tuesday at Love Funeral Home in Burlington, Colo. with the Rev.
Aubrey Howell officiating. Burial was at Fairview cemetery in Burlington.
Memorials are suggested to St. Christopher House, in care of First National
Bank in Burlington.

Bertha 'Bert' Ensz Martens Bowman 1917-2001
ZOOK - Bertha "Bert" Ensz Martens Bowman, 84, died Aug. 28 at Medicalodge
in Kinsley. She was born March 12, 1917, in Inman, the daughter of George
and Marie Hildebrand Ensz. She married Edwin P. Martens May 27, 1941. He
died July 20, 1962. She married J. Clyde Bowman Aug. 16, 1967, in
Hutchinson. A resident of Zook, coming from Emporia in 1967, she was a
homemaker.
Mrs. Bowman was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hutchinson and was
a house-mother at the women's dorm at Emporia State University.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, James E. Martens of
Hutchinson and Gerald E. Martens of Littleton, Colo.; one stepson, John C.
Bowman of Hutchinson; three stepdaughters, Martha Bowman of Hutchinson,
Mary Ann Schinstock of Kinsley and Judy Bowman of Kansas City; two
brothers, Al Ensz and Bud Ensz, both of Hutchinson; two sisters, Esther
Neufeldt and Lu Neufeld, both of Inman; six grandchildren; eight
stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two
stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Mel
Ensz; and three sisters, Kate Martens, Martha Penner and Mary Jane Ensz.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fairlawn Burial Park in
Hutchinson, with Elmer Ensz officiating. Friends may call until 8 tonight
and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, all at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in
Larned. Memorials are suggested to The Zook Club House or Alzheimer's
Disease and Related Disorders Association, both in care of the mortuary.

Jean Frances Bowers 1928-2001
Jean Frances Bowers, 72, of Great Bend, went to be with her Lord Aug. 26 at
her home. She was born Oct. 15, 1928, in Scott City, the daughter of Thomas
Francis and Laura Bernadine Harrington Spangler. She married Valreis L.
Bowers Nov. 24, 1951, in Dodge City. He died Aug. 14, 1982. A resident of
Great Bend since 1952, coming from Bucklin, she worked as an optometrist's
assistant for Dr. Russell McCalley's office in Great Bend.
Mrs. Bowers was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society and
Daughters of Isabella, all of Great Bend.
Survivors include one son, Kevin Lynn Bowers of Olathe; four daughters,
Debra A. Brewer of Overland Park, Barbara J. Craven and Kayla S. Schremmer,
both of Hoisington, and Brenda J. Zahn of Great Bend; one brother, James R.
Spangler of Pueblo, Colo.; one sister, Waunita Mumma of Independence; and
12 grandchildren, Cody Schremmer, Brandon Schremmer, Michael Craven,
Matthew Craven, Brian Brewer, Meggan Bowers, Derek Bowers, Monica Zahn,
Toni Zahn, Austin Bowers, Josh Befort and Tana Befort.
Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by Daughters of
Isabella rosary, both at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Warren
Stecklein officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may
call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, all at the
funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or Barton County
Special Olympics, both in care of the funeral home.
"Mother, you will be greatly missed. Your family will remain as an
extension of your love."

Graham Eugene Regester 1920-2001
RUSSELL - Graham Eugene Regester, 81, died Aug. 26 at Russell Regional
Hospital in Russell. He was born Feb. 15, 1920, in Clay Center, the son of
Mryon and Jennie Cowing Regester. He married Ruth Elaine Call Sept. 16,
1960, in Russell. A resident of Russell, he worked in road construction and
for the city of Russell.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Douglas Regester of
Manhattan and Ronald Regester of Topeka; three daughters, Judy Weisner of
St. George, Nancy Stinger and Dawn May, both of Salina; nine grandchildren;
16 stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 16
stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one infant son and one
stepson, Charles Flowers.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Russell Funeral Home in Russell,
with the Rev. James Alexander officiating. Burial will be at Russell City
Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the
funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Calvary Chapel, in care of the
funeral home.

Vivian L. Bartlett 1944-2001
Vivian L. Bartlett, 57, of Great Bend, died Aug. 27 at Hutchinson Hospital
in Hutchinson. She was born June 15, 1944, in rural Gray County, the
daughter of Walter Anthony and Lena Evelyn Sands McKenna. She married El
Halcon "Hal" Bartlett Oct. 10, 1961, in Clayton, N.M. A resident of Great
Bend since 1972, coming from Cimarron, she was a homemaker and retired
receptionist for Doonan Truck and Equipment.
Mrs. Bartlett was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, American Legion
Auxiliary and lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, all in
Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Shawn Dell Bartlett of
Chaska, Minn.; two daughters, Stacy L. Cobb of Lenexa and Anna L. Bartlett
of Great Bend; her mother of Wichita; one sister, Darlene Brown of Wichita;
and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Rosalie
Burnett; and one grandson, Ryan Lee Cobb.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home
Chapel in Great Bend, with the Rev. Waylen Brown officiating. Burial will
be at Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery in Great Bend. Friends may call from
9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday, all
at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick School
Endowment Fund or Holy Trinity Children's Center, both in care of the
funeral home.

Vicki J. Sharp 1949-2001
LARNED - Vicki J. Sharp, 52, died Aug. 27 at her home in Larned. She was
born July 17, 1949, in Excelsior Springs, Mo., the daughter of Roy and
Glenna Cole Shuler. She married Robert C. Sharp June 11, 1983, in Las
Vegas, Nev. A lifelong resident of Larned, she worked at Central Kansas
Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus in Larned for 30 years, serving as
assistant nurse manager, assisting with St. Joseph Auxiliary activities,
committee member for the hospital's 50th anniversary and becoming director
of operations in 1999.
Mrs. Sharp was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society,
Larned Emergency Medical Service and Larned Country Club, all of Larned.
Survivors include her husband of the home; five sons, Cecil Sharp of
Vassar, Robert Sharp Jr. of Lidsay, Texas, Michael Ray Sharp of Carnegie,
Okla., John Joel Sharp of Garden City and Carlos Taylor of Lamar, Mo.; one
daughter, Connie Bradford of Lamar; one sister, Nancy Schmidt of Larned; 17
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Dennis
Reed officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call until
8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, all at Beckwith Mortuary
Chapel in Larned. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society or
Golden Belt Home Hospice, both in care of the mortuary.

James William Minnis 1933-2001
ST. JOHN - James William Minnis, 68, died Aug. 27 at his home in St. John.
He was born May 13, 1933, in Stafford, the son of Herman Theodore and
Alberta Virginia Burton Minnis. He was a 1951 graduate of Bucklin High
School and a 1954 graduate of the Dallas Institute-Grupton Jones College of
Mortuary Science. He married Anna Darlene Rosenbaum Aug. 10, 1958, in
Pratt. A resident of St. John since 1959, coming from Great Bend, he was
former co-owner of Minnis Funeral Chapel for 36 years, before retiring in
1995.
Minnis was a member of First United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday
school secretary, church finance secretary and co-chairman of the New
Church Building Committee, Ionic Lodge 254, AF&AM, 50-year member of St.
John Lions Club and Main Street Promotion Committee, all of St. John,
National Funeral Directors Association, Kansas Funeral Directors
Association, Friends of Quivira, past St. John city councilman, St. John
District Hospital and volunteer for St. John PRIDE and Tourism Committee.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Mark Minnis of Houston,
Texas, Mitch Minnis of St. John and Jay Minnis of Stafford; one brother,
Bud Minnis of Stafford; three sisters, Sarah Foster of Birmingham, Ala.,
Jean Dewell of Winfield and Mattie Oswalt of Kremlin, Okla.; and seven
grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. W. Harlan
Rittgers officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park cemetery in St. John.
Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 1-6 p.m. Wednesday, all at Minnis
Chapel in St. John. Memorials are suggested to Methodist Church Future Fund
or South Wind Hospice, both in care of the funeral chapel.

Willie J. 'Biddie' Bailey 1928-2001
Willie J. "Biddie" Bailey, 73, of Great Bend, died Aug. 25 at Central
Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Aug. 22,
1928, in Malta Bend, Mo., the daughter of William Austin and Pearl Irene
Nowlin McCormick. She married the Rev. Glenn R. Bailey Aug. 4, 1974, in
Fairview, Mo. A resident of Great Bend for seven years, coming from
Ellinwood, Rolla and Kansas City, Mo., she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Bailey was a member of the Methodist church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Tim Stegner of
Muldrow, Okla., Robin Stegner of Raymore, Mo., and Jeff Stegner of Kansas
City, Mo.; one daughter, Janice Melling of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters,
Shirley Nelson of Tulsa, Okla., and Barbara Waldron of Chipley, Fla.; and
eight grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Newcomer Floral Hills Chapel in Kansas
City, Mo. Burial will be at Floral Hill Memorial Gardens in Kansas City.
Friends may call from 6-8 tonight at the chapel. There are no memorials
suggested.

Earlene Beth Fort 1914-2001
ST. JOHN - Earlene Beth Fort, 86, died Aug. 25 at Leisure Homestead in St.
John. She was born Dec. 27, 1914, in Stafford County, the daughter of Earl
G. and Birdie B. Fort. She was a 1932 graduate of St. John High School. A
lifetime resident of St. John, she worked as a bookkeeper for Ford Garage
and English Lumber Company, both of St. John.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, American Baptist Women, Stafford
County 4-H leader, all in St. John, and Southwest Kansas Royalty Owners
Association.
Survivors include 12 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two
brothers, Clifford F. Fort and Robert W. Fort.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. David
A. Ford officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park cemetery in St. John.
Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at Minnis Chapel in St. John.
Memorials are suggested to the church or Murrow Children's Home in
Muskogee, Okla., both in care of the funeral chapel.
