Adolph J. Langer 1924-2001
NESS CITY - Adolph J. Langer, 77, died Aug. 22 at Ness County Hospital in
Ness City. He was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Olmitz, the son of J.T. and Mary
Rabenseifner Langer. A resident of Ness City, he was a farmer and stockman.
Langer was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Ness City.
Survivors include one brother, Edwin Langer of Ness City; and three
sisters, Helen Koester of Hoisington, Ann Weilert and Evelyn Schlegel, both
of Ness City. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard Langer and
Alvin Langer; and one sister, Marie McDonald.
Parish Vigil will be at 7 tonight at the church. Funeral will be at 10:30
a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Gregory LeBlanc officiating.
Burial will be at Sacred Heart cemetery in Ness City. Friends may call
until 3 today at Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City and until 9 tonight
and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the church. Memorials are
suggested to Sacred heart cemetery Fund or the donor's choice, both in care
of the funeral home.

Mollie Schultz Kaufman 1906-2001
WILSON - Mollie Schultz Kaufman, 94, died Aug. 21. She was born Aug. 23,
1906, in Marion County, the daughter of Andreas and Marie Heinze Schultz.
She married Frank Kaufman. He died in 1976. A resident of Wilson, she was a
homemaker and farm wife.
Survivors include one son, Larry Kaufman; one sisters, Alwina Motzner;
three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by two sons, Francis Kaufman and Gene Kaufman; and one daughter, Linda
Marie.
Prayer service will be at 7 tonight at Foster Mortuary in Wison. Funeral
will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wilson. Burial
will be at Wilson City Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight at the
mortuary and from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorials are
suggested to the church or Wilson Senior Center, both in care of the
mortuary.

Marcella Kruckenberg Diepenbrock 1917-2001
BOULDER, Colo. - Marcella Kurckenberg Diepenbrock, 83, died Aug. 19. She
was born Sept. 28, 1917, in Great Bend, the daughter of Louis and Mary
Kruckenberg. She is a graduate of St. John's Academy in Winfield. She
married Walter Diepenbrock Jan. 10, 1942, in Kingfisher, Okla. He died in
February 1969.A resident of Boulder, she was a retired employee of the
University of Colorado, Boulder.
Mrs. Diepenbrock was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, the Boulder
Republican Women's Club and served on the executive committee of the
Boulder County Republican Party, all in Boulder.
Survivors include one son, David Diepenbrock of Arvada, Colo.; one
daughter, Mary Stokes of Louisville, Ky.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral will be Friday at the church. Burial will be at Mountain View
Cemetery in Boulder. There is no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the
church building fund, in care of the church.

Velma M. Adams 1916-2001
Velma M. Adams, 85, of Great Bend, died Aug. 22 at Wheat State Manor in
Whitewater. She was born Aug. 4, 1916 in Otis, the daughter of Peter and
Anna Schelegel Hartman. She married Arthur L. Adams July 6, 1941 in Otis.
He died Jan. 3, 1981. A resident of Whitewater for seven years, coming from
Great Bend, she was a retired registered nurse and special education
paraprofessional with USD 428 in Great Bend.
Mrs. Adams was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion
Auxiliary and R.N. Social Club, all of Great Bend.
Survivors include one son, Jim Adams of Wichita; two daughters, Jane
Crabtree of Searcy, Ark. and Patti Biddle of Wichita; one sister, Selma
Scheck of Great Bend; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by three brothers; and five sisters.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home
Chapel in Great Bend. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may
call from noon to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time
Saturday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the
Alzheimers Association, in care of the funeral home.

Frances E. 'Fran' Harbert 1926-2001
LARNED - Frances E. "Fran" Harbert, 75, died Aug. 20 at Via Christi
Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. She was born March
29, 1926, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Guy J. and Ruth Lee Gresham
Fulcher. She married Howard J. Harbert June 7, 1946, in Larned. He died May
17, 1987. A resident of Larned, she was a retired salesperson for Doerr Ace
Hardware and was an "on air" personality for KANS Radio, "Fran at 10:07."
Mrs. Harbert was a member of First Presbyterian Church, were she was a
church elder, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Daughters of the American
Revolution, Pawnee County Historical Society and Eastern Star, all of
Larned.
Survivors include three sons, Terry Lee Harbert of Topeka, David Earl
Harbert of Haymarket, Va., and Guy Howard Harbert of Larned; two daughters,
Cathie Ann Kornacki of Platte City, Mo., and Linda Jane Harbert of Wichita;
one brother, Richard L. Fulcher of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and five
grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:07 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Jim
Hawthorne officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call
until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, all at Morell
Funeral Home in Larned. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of
the funeral home.

Shad Lawrence Debes 1971-2001
LARNED - Shad Lawrence Debes, 29, died Aug. 20 at Wesley Medical Center in
Wichita. He was born Nov. 2, 1971, in Larned, the son of Lawrence L. and
Sherry Lee Rankin Debes. He was a 1991 graduate of Larned High School. A
lifelong resident of Larned, he was an employee of Rosewood Services in
Great Bend.
Debes was a member of First Christian Church and worked the concession
stand for the Noon Lions Club, both of Larned.
Survivors include his parents of the home; one sister, Amy Brewer of
Larned; his grandparents, Leon and Joyce Rankin of Larned; and
step-grandmother, Dorothy Debes of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by
grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Debes.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned,
with the Rev. Daniel Lundgren officiating. Burial will be at Larned
Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m.
until service time Friday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to
Shad Debes Memorial Fund, in care of the mortuary.

Wanda O. Shoemaker 1919-2001
LARNED - Wanda O. Shoemaker, 81, died Aug. 20 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Joseph Campus in Larned. She was born Sept. 14, 1919, in Calico
Rock, Ark., the daughter of Herman and Mollie Rose Fitzhugh Reeves. She
married W.H. Shoemaker Aug. 25, 1944, in Oxford, Ark. He died June 12,
2000. A lifelong resident of Larned, she was a retired nurse aid at the
former Gleason Hospital and worked in the dietary department at Larned
State Hospital in Larned.
Mrs. Shoemaker attended First Baptist Church in Larned.
Survivors include one son, Victor Shoemaker of Larned; three daughters,
Robbie Luttrell of Centerton, Ark., Mary Ostrander of Topeka and Patsy
Rinkie of Lawrence; two brothers, Robert Reeves of Olive Branch, Miss., and
John Reeves of Eudora; and one sister, Maggie Wilson of Calico Rock, Ark.
She was preceded in death by one son, Eddie Shoemaker; one brother, Carl
Reeves; two sisters, Zaretta McClellan and Jo Ann Turnage; and one
granddaughter, Tereca Luttrell.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned,
with the Rev. Johnny Augmon officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time
Thursday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to C.M.E. Church
Rescue Chapel in Larned, in care of the mortuary.

Annie 'Sue' Urish 1932-2000
WICHITA - Annie "Sue" Urish, 68, died July 2, 2000. She was born June 4,
1932, in Sommerville, Tenn., the daughter of John Dewey and Margaret Anne
Morrow Gist. She married George T. Urish Aug. 6, 1954, in Tupelo, Miss. A
native of Larned, Mr. Urish died Oct. 1, 1995. A resident of Wichita, she
was a sign language interpreter for the Wichita School District.
Survivors include one son, Ben Urish of East Lansing, Mich.; one daughter,
Georgia Abbott of Topeka; one sister, Evelyn Downs of Boonville, Miss.; and
one granddaughter.
Graveside service will be Friday at Great Bend cemetery in Great Bend.
There will be no visitation and no memorials are suggested.

Thomas B. Coulter 1960-2001
LARNED - Thomas B. Coulter, 41, died Aug. 20 at his residence in Larned. He
was born April 14, 1960, in Mineralwells, Texas, the son of Lewis F. and
Carolyn Woodring Coulter. A resident of Larned, coming from Dodge City, he
was a licensed mental health aide at Larned State Hospital.
Survivors include two sons, Derrick Coulter and Devin Coulter, both of
Alva, Okla.; his mother, Carolyn Hoagland of Hanston; two sisters, Diana
Myers of Dodge City and Jody McInnis of Garden City; his grandparents,
Ethel Woodring of Hanston and Elsie Hoagland of Jetmore.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Larned Cemetery, with
the Rev. Mitch Reece officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials
are suggested to the Tom Coulter Memorial Fund, in care of Beckwith
Mortuary in Larned.

Rudolph J. Werner 1940-2001
VICTORIA - Rudolph J. Werner, 60, died Aug. 19 at Hays Medical Center in
Hays. he was born Sept. 17, 1940, in Claflin, the son of John B. and Regina
P. Schmidt Werner. A resident of Victoria, he was a heavy equipment
operator.
Werner was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria.
Survivors include three brothers, John Werner and Anthony Werner, both of
Great Bend, and Robert Werner of Bunceton, Mo.; seven sisters, Irene
Werner, Anne Klug and Frances Prosser, all of Odin, Theresa Miller and
Loretta Rutherford, both of Wichita, Margaret Carey of Denville, N.J. and
Mary Gilliam of Sturges, Ken. He was preceded in death by one brother,
Raymond Werner.
Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church in
Odin. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the
Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will be at Holy Family cemetery in
Odin. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. Memorials are
suggested to the cemetery or Masses, both in care of Cline's Mortuary in
Victoria.

E. Edwin 'Ed' Moyers 1920-2001
HAYS - E. Edwin "Ed" Moyers, 80, died Aug. 20 at Hays Medical Center in
Hays. He was born Dec. 4, 1920, in Cairo, W.V., the son of William F. and
Estella Mitchell Moyers. He attended Ritchie County Schools in West
Virginia. He completed two degrees in music at Cincinnati Conservatory of
Music. He married Mary Louise Farley Aug. 25, 1948, in Clarksburg, W.V. A
resident of Hays, he taught music at Fort Hays State University in Hays.
Moyers was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hays were he served
as church school teacher and member of worship and music committes. He was
a member of Hays Lions Club, Phi Delta Kappa and Phi Mu Alpha honorary
fraternities, Kansas Music Educators Association, Music Educators National
Conference, American String Teachers Association and Boy Scout leader. He
was an honored muscian in the Hays community.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Michael Moyers of Loma
Linda, Calif. and Randal Moyers of Great Bend; and four grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Revs. Delbert
Stanton and William C. Miller officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Allen
Cemetery in Hays. Friends may call from 4-7 tonight at Hays Memorial Chapel
Funeral Home in Hays. Memorials are suggested to the Edwin Moyers
Scholarship Fund, FHSU Endowment Fund, Music Department, in care of the
funeral home.
