Ilona Elizabeth Oroszy 1913-2001
LARNED - Ilona Elizabeth Oroszy, 87, died Aug. 19 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Joseph Campus in Larned. She was born Sept. 14, 1913, in
Lorain, Ohio, the daughter of George and Mabel Elizabeth Halloway Oroszy. A
lifelong resident of Larned, she was a secretary for the Pawnee County
Engineer's office.
She was a member of Christian Science Church in Hutchinson.
Survivors include on cousin, Judy Redding of Larned.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned,
with the Rev. Richard Martin officiating. Burial will be at Larned
Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and
from 9 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are
suggested to the donor's choice, in care of the mortuary.

Maurice F. Koelsch 1918-2001
LONGVIEW, Wash - Maurice F. Koelsch, 82, died Aug. 18 at Longview Hospice
Center in Longview. He was born Oct. 23, 1918, in Great Bend, the son of
Emmett and Elizabeth Kern Koelsch. He was a graduate of Great Bend High
School and Salt City Business College in Hutchinson. He married Marilou
Lenertz in 1948. A resident of Longview, he was co-owner of Longview
Mortgage Company.
Koelsch was a member of St. Rose Church, Lions Club and Elks Club, all of
Longview.
Survivors include his wife of the home, one son, Mark Koelsch of Longview;
one daughter, Susan Elliott of Victorville, Calif.; two brothers, Emmett
Koelsch of Longview and Victor Koelsch of Great Bend; two sisters, Mary Lou
Weiser of Great Bend and Rose Carroll of Overland Park; and six
grandchildren.
Services and burial were in Longview. There is no visitation and no
memorials are suggested.

Lucille Mary 'Granny' Cockerham 1925-2001
OCTAVIA, Okla. - Lucille Mary "Granny" Cockerham, 76, died Aug. 20 at her
home in Octavia. She was born Aug. 14, 1925, in Rose, Okla., the daughter
of Elliott and Lida Brewer Hicks. She married Robert V. Cockerham Sept. 29,
1945. A resident of Octavia, coming from Larned, she was a homemaker and
psychiatric aide for 19 years at Larned State Hospital in Larned.
Mrs. Cockerham was a member of Octavia Baptist Church in Octavia.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Jack Cockerham of
Mountainburg, Ark.; four daughters, June Beachel of Okmulgee, Okla., Jane
Bishop of Hartshorne, Okla., Jeanne Singer of Denver, Colo. and Joann
Charlton of Heavener, Okla.; one brother, Howard Hicks of Morrison, Okla.;
one sister, Edith Jackson of Tulsa, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers; and three
sisters.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Revs. Doug
Maggard and Ed Rogers officiating. Burial will be at Octavia Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Octavia Cemetery
Association or Octavia Volunteer Fire Department, both in care of
Beasley-Wood Funeral Home in Mena, Okla.

Helen Blanche Lowe Priess 1912-2001
STAFFORD - Helen Blanche Lowe Priess, 89, died Aug. 18 at Leisure Homestead
in Stafford. She was born April 4, 1912, in Stafford, the daughter of
Marion and Ellen Goble. She was a graduate of Stafford High School. She
married Lewis Lowe June 9, 1934, in Topeka. He died Oct. 7, 1980. She
married Leroy Priess May 29, 1988, in Stafford. He died July 6, 1996. A
lifelong resident of Stafford, she was a retired nurses aide at Stafford
District Hospital.
Mrs. Priess was a member of First Christian Church of Stafford.
Survivors include two sons, Jerome R. Lowe of Las Vegas, Nev., and Lewis H.
"Corky" Lowe of Ft. Worth, Texas; and two grandsons.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford, with the
Rev. Karen Ault officiating. Burial will be at Stafford Cemetery. Friends
may call from 4-8 tonight at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to
the church, in care of the funeral chapel.

Elsie Irene Funk 1917-2001
HOISINGTON - Elsie Irene Funk, 84, died Aug. 18 in rural northern Barton
County as a result of a automobile accident. She was born March 10, 1917,
in Barton County, the daughter of Heinrich and Amalie Miller Wilheim. She
was baptized April 15, 1917, and confirmed June 4, 1932. She married
Emanuel Funk Nov. 29, 1936, in Milberger. He died Feb. 12, 1973. A resident
of Hoisington, coming from Russell County, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Funk was a member of United Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and UELC Women,
both of Milberger, and Great Bend Women Aglow of Great Bend.
Survivors include one son, Wayne Funk of Russell; two daughters, Joetta
Hendrickson of Port Angeles, Wash., and Marilyn Charles of Great Bend; six
sisters, Hilda Courson of Marshfield, Mo., Martha Schneider and Viola
Schneider, both of WaKeeney, Jean Bailey of Russell, Esther McManis of
Wichita and Bernice "Isabelle" Radke of Great Bend; four grandchildren; and
one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by eight brothers, Emanuel
Wilhelm, Leo Wilhelm, Herbert Wilhelm, Emil Wilhelm, Raymond Wilhelm, Eddie
Wilhelm, Gerhardt Wilhelm and Gerhardt Wilhelm II; and one sister, Doris
Mae Wilhelm.
Prayer service will be at 7 tonight at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in
Hoisington. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev.
Keith Kreitzer officiating. Burial will be at Milberger Cemetery. Friends
may call until 9 tonight at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until service
time Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to United Emmanuel
Lutheran Women for quilting projects, in care of the funeral home.

Gertrude Louise Trapp 1913-2001
GENESEO - Gertrude Louise Trapp, 88, died Aug. 18 at Lyons District
Hospital in Lyons. She was born March 12, 1913, in Ellsworth County, the
daughter of Louis E. and Roberta Swafford Schultz. She married Charles Otto
Trapp April 5, 1941, in Russell. He died Oct. 11, 1987. A resident of
Geneseo since 1952, she was co-owner/operator, with her husband, of
Shorty's Cafe in Geneseo.
Mrs. Trapp was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lyons, 55 Plus Club and
Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, both of Geneseo.
Survivors include two sons, Charles L. Trapp of Derby and Louis A. Trapp of
Larned; two daughters, Julia A. Waggoner of McPherson and Linnaea Budke of
McCook, Neb.; two sisters, Mildred Hedrick of Ellsworth and Shirley Lindt
of Pittsburg; 24 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 13
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters,
Charlene Hutchinson and Fairie Lea Koffman; five brothers, Erno Schultz,
Everett Schultz, Bert Schultz, Milton Schultz and Walter Schultz; and one
sister, Helen McKinley.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Lloyd Sprick
officiating. Burial will be at Geneseo Cemetery. Friends may call until 7
tonight at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons, with the family receiving friends
from 5-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Foundation, Sandstone
Height Nursing Home or to the donor's choice, all in care of the funeral
home.

Robert 'Bob' Emerson Adams 1923-2001
INDEPENDENCE - Robert 'Bob' Emerson Adams, 78, died Aug. 16 at Veterans
Affairs Medical Center in Wichita. He was born May 15, 1923, at La Crosse,
the son of Joyful Osro and Mary Edna Owens Adams. He married Darlene Basgall
April 4, 1959, in La Crosse. A resident of Independence, coming from La
Crosse, he was a retired sanitation engineer.
Adams was a member of the La Crosse Knights of Columbus Council, La Crosse
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Advocacy Group of Wilson County and the Eagles
Club of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in
the Pacific Theatre with the 754th Tank Battalion.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Robert Adams Jr. and
Dwayne Adams, both of Independence, and James Adams of Holyrood; one
sister, Wanda Schlegel of Independence; and one granddaughter. He was
preceded in death by two brothers, Owen Adams and Carl Adams.
Rosary being held at 7 p.m. Monday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in La
Crosse with the Rev. Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will at La Crosse
City Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. on Monday, with the family
receiving friends from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested
to the American Lung Association, in care of the funeral home.

James L. 'Jim' Bilyew 1953-2001
James L. 'Jim' Bilyew, 48, of Great Bend died Aug. 16 at Central Kansas
Medical Center St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Jan. 11, 1953, at
Great Bend, the son of C.S. and Alene Fankhauser Bilyew. He married JoAnn
Wilhelm Jan. 22, 1973, at Bison. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was a
journeyman line foreman for Midwest Energy Inc.
Bilyew was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, IBEW Union, Lions
Club and Photography Club all of Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Kelly Jones of Hays
and Kristi Bilyew of Manhattan; his mother; one brother, Steven Bilyew of
Claflin; and three grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bryant-Christians Chapel with
the Rev. Tom Robson officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park
in Great Bend. Friends may call from 1-9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until
service time on Monday, all at the funeral home. Family will receive friends
6-8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Ronald
McDonald House, in care of the funeral home.

Megan LeAnn Doonan 1984-2001
Megan LeAnn Doonan, 16, of Great Bend, died Aug. 16 in Pawnee County as the
result of a car accident. She was born Nov. 21, 1984, at Great Bend, the
daughter of David L. and Becky Caruthers Doonan. She was a sophomore at
Great Bend High School. A lifetime resident of Great Bend she was a employ
at Carroll's Books Music and Video of Great Bend.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and Kayettes, both of Great
Bend.
Survivors include her parents, of the home; two sisters, Amanda Doonan and
Angela Doonan, of the home; grandparents, Claudia Doonan of Great Bend and
Wayne and Shirley Caruthers of Geneseo.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Dr.
Gary W. Teske officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends
may call from 1-9 tonight at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend.
Memorials are suggested to Relay for Life or the Great Bend Humane Society,
both in care of the funeral home.

Wanda J. Vsetecka 1927-2001
LA CROSSE - Wanda J. Vsetecka, 73, died Aug. 15 at her home in La Crosse.
She was born Oct. 29, 1927, in Portia, Ark., the daughter of Ephriam and
Rubye Pearl Tyler Berry. A resident of La Crosse, coming from Larned, she
was a retired nurses aid.
She was a member of Church of Christ of Larned.
Survivors include one son, Daniel Vsetecka of Larned; two daughters,
Darlene Rowe of Otis and Donna Berry of Larned; two sisters, Margaret
Broyles of Prescott and Maxine Nobbman of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 20
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
one son, Tom J. Fuller.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned, with
the Rev. Richard Martin officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday
and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday, all at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the donor's choice, both in care
of the funeral home.

Fern Lucille Schmidt 1914-2001
ST. JOHN - Fern Lucille Schmidt, 87, died Aug. 16 at Stafford District
Hospital in Stafford. She was born July 29, 1914, in Claflin, the daughter
of Ralph Burton Sr. and Clara Staeber Jordan. She was a 1932 graduate of
St. John High School. She married Charles Edward Schmidt Jan. 12, 1944, in
Seattle, Wash. He died Nov. 2, 1991. A lifelong resident of the St. John
area, she was a homemaker and worked as a deputy treasurer and deputy clerk
for three terms at the Stafford County Courthouse.
Mrs. Schmidt was a member of Methodist Church, Henry Rohr Chapter of OES
and Veterans of Foriegn Wars Auxillary Post 7519, all of St. John.
Survivors include two daughters, Lyda Marie Rutti and Carman Joyce Schmidt,
both of St. John; one sister, Marie Powell of Omaha, Neb.; three
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one
brother, Ralph Jordan.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Minnis Chapel in St. John, with the
Rev. W. Harlan Rittgers officiating. Friends may call until 8 tonight at
the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to the church or American
Diabetes Association, both in care of the funeral chapel.
