Mary E. Fuller 1908-2001
STAFFORD -- Mary E. Fuller, 92, died Sept. 22 at Stafford District Hospital
in Stafford. She was born Nov. 7, 1908, in Stafford, the daughter of Albert
and Gladys Silver Byer. She was a 1926 graduate of Stafford High School and
attended Emporia Teachers College. She married Clem O. Fuller March 15,
1930, in Stafford. He died June 26, 1962. A lifelong resident of Stafford,
she was a homemaker and grade school teacher for Leesburg and Union Schools
in Stafford County.
Mrs. Fuller was a member of First United Methodist Church, and past member
of Liberty Club, North Star Club, United Methodist Women, Harmony Club and
sewing leader for Wheat Valley 4-H Club, all of Stafford.
Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Gorham of Winslow, Ariz., and
Carolyn Minor of Stafford; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers; three sisters; and one
grandchild.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford, with the
Rev. Kasey Crosby officiating. Burial will be at Stafford Cemetery. Friends
may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral chapel. Memorials are
suggested to the church, in care of the funeral chapel.

George W. 'Juddie' Brunts 1914-2001
CLAFLIN -- George W. "Juddie" Brunts, 87, died Sept. 18 at Central Kansas
Medical Center, Ellinwood Long Term Care in Ellinwood. He was born Aug. 25,
1914, in council Grove, the son of Earl A. and Callie Niblo Brunts. He
married Ruth E. Ruch June 19, 1942, in Cheyenne, Wyo. A long time resident
of Claflin, coming from Osawotomie, he worked as a yard clerk and cashier
with Missouri Pacific Railroad for 40 years before retiring in 1975.
Brunts was a member of United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge AF and AM 424,
Veterans of Foriegn War Ralph B. Praeger Post 8668, all of Claflin, American
legion Post 200 of Holyrood and an honorary lifetime member of Claflin Golf
Course, where he was the golf instructor from 1962-1966. He was a U.S. Army
veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Richard E. Brunts of Great
Bend and George W. Brunts Jr. of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Janice J.
Brunts of Arlington, Mass. and Susan J. Smith of Sandy Hook, Conn.; one
brother, Bill Brunts of Cameron, Calif.; and three granddaughters. He was
preceded in death by one infant daughter, Gloria Lynn Brunts; two brothers,
Jack Brunts and Robert Brunts; and two sisters, orene mcClellan and June
Barnett.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Janet
Myers officiating. Burial will be at Claflin cemetery with graveside rites
by the masonic lodge and VFW post. Friends may call until 8 tonight, from 9
a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with family receiving from 6-8 p.m. Friday, all at
Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington and from 9:30 a.m. until service
time Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the golf course or
Claflin Ambulance Fund, both in care of the funeral home.

Flossie Unruh Butts 1906-2001
LARNED - Flossie Unruh Butts, 94, died May 10 in Coronado, Calif. She was
born Nov. 8, 1906, in Pawnee County, the daughter of August and Mathilda
Schultz Unruh. A lifetime resident of Pawnee County, moving to California
in 1997, she was a salesperson and secretary.
Mrs. Butts was a member of United Methodist Church and Bible study group,
both of Larned.
Survivors include two daughters, Neda Wenger of Coronado and Carol Barstow
of Oceanside, Calif.; two sisters, Elva Jantz of Heston and Navin Fraser of
Augusta, Ga.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by one granddaughter, Linda Barstow Homer.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pawnee Rock cemetery in
Pawnee Rock, with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Warmer officiating. There will be no
visitation. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Morell
Funeral Home in Larned.

Joseph P. McGee 1923-2001
Joseph P. McGee, 78, of Great Bend, died Sept. 18 at Hutchinson Hospital in
Hutchinson. He was born May 3, 1923, in Independence, the son of Bill Ray
and Bertha Mitchell McGee. He married Geneva M. Schmidt Aug. 28, 1942, in
Wichita. A resident of Great Bend, moving from Chase and Belpre, he was a
retired elevator manager in Belpre.
McGee was a member of United Methodist Church in Belpre, Masonic Lodge in
Chase, life member of Veterans of Foriegn Wars and American Legion, both of
Larned, Sunflower Shrine Club of Great Bend, ISIS Shrine and Consistory,
both of Salina. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Karen Gilkey of
Belpre; two brothers, Bud McGee of Independence and Bob McGee of
Cherryvale; three sisters, Bonnie Leatherman and Doris Schartz, both of
Derby and Betty Neal of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two grandsons; and two
great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned,
with the Rev. Bill Stapleton officiating. Burial will be at Neola Cemetery
in Neola. Friends may call until 8 tonight, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday
and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the mortuary. Memorials
are suggested to American Cancer Society or American Lung Association, both
in care of the mortuary.

Robert L. Roberts 1930-2001
DALLAS, Ore. - Robert L. Roberts, 71, died Sept. 15, from a cancer related
illness. He was born Sept. 12, 1930, in Hutchinson. He graduated in 1949
from Burrton High School in Burrton. He married Glenora Morris March 28,
1955, in Tucumcari, N.M. A resident of Dallas, coming from Burrton, he
worked for Skelly and Getty Oil Companies and retired from Texaco Oil
Company as a district gauger in 1991.
Roberts was a member of the Presbyterian churches in Stafford and Chase and
the American Legion. He was a U.S. Marine Corps. veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Larry Roberts of Dallas
and Dale Roberts of Jefferson, Ore.; one daughter, Vicki Brister of Salem,
Ore.; one sister, Helen Montgomery of Kirkland, Wash.; six grandchildren;
and one great-granddaughter.
Memorial service will be today at City View Funeral Home in Salem. Burial
will be at City View cemetery in Salem. Memorials are suggested to First
Baptist Church in Kirkland, Wash. or Presbyterian Church in Chase, all in
care of the funeral home.

Karen Ruth McDonald Atsaides 1952-2001
BALTIMORE, Md. - Karen Ruth McDonald Atsaides, 49, died Sept. 5 at Mercy
Hospital in Baltimore. She was born May 26, 1952, in Great Bend, the
daughter of Robert and Alice McDonald. She graduated in 1970 from Great
Bend High School. She married James Atsaides in 1976. She received a
bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Kansas and was
employed by the public schools in Olathe and Lansing.
In 1994 Karen enrolled in the Traditional Acupuncture Institute in
Columbia, Maryland. Three years later she graduated with a Master's Degree
in Acupuncture. She was nationally board certified and practiced at the
Holistic Healing Center of Catonsville Md.
Karen was an active member of the Catonsville Presbyterian Church and a
charter member of the Catonsville Concert Series committee. Music was
always an important part of her life. She was an accomplished pianist,
flautist and vocalist. Karen served as a board member of the YMCA of
Central Maryland.
Survivors include two daughters, Amy Lynn Atsaides and Stacey Marie
Atsaides, both of Catonsville, Md.; her parents of Great Bend; and one
sister, Linda VanderVelde of Emporia.
Funeral has taken place. Memorials are suggested to Susan G. Komen Breast
Cancer Foundation, 200 E. Joppa Rd., Suite 403, Towson, Md 21286 or donor's
choice.

Kenneth L. Evers 1927-2001
Kenneth L. Evers, 73, of Great Bend, died Sept. 15 at Integrated Health
Services of Great Bend. He was born Oct. 6, 1927, in Heizer, the son of
William Clair and Caroline Anna Rankin Evers. He married Mary L. Brack May
27, 1950, in Great Bend. She died March 9, 2001. A lifetime resident of
Great Bend, he was a retired owner/operator of Evers TV and Appliance store.
Evers was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 3111, both of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharnon Pivonka of Great Bend and Margaret
Darkis of Wichita; one sister, Lee Helen Cain of Tulsa; and five
grandchildren, Jeremy Pivonka, Aaron Pivonka, Jamie Brack, Jordan Darkis
and Megan Darkis. He was preceded in death by two infant twin sisters.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bryant-Christians Funeral
Home Chapel in Great Bend, with the Rev. Dr. Gary W. Teske officiating.
Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. There will be no
visitation. Memorials are suggested to American Red Cross for New York,
N.Y., and Washington D.C. disaster victims, in care of the funeral home.

Fred Long 1919-2001
LARNED - Fred Long, 82, died Sept. 15 at his home in Larned. He was born
Aug. 16, 1919, in Chattuck, Okla., the son of Jacob and Lydia Kraft Long.
He married Vera G. Jaehde Sept. 24, 1938, in WaKeeney. A resident of Larned
since 1962, he was a retired insurance salesman and co-op manager.
Long was a member of Christian Church and past member of American Legion,
Veterans of Foreign Wars and American L.U.T.C., all of Larned. He was a
U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, James A. Long of
Larned, Steven C. Long of Denver, Colo., and David M. Long of Wichita; two
daughters, Julie Ann Matchett of Lawrence and Nancy Jean Eckert of Butte,
Mont.; three sisters, Alvana Elrod of Medford, Ore., Mary Goodyear of
Russell and Lillian Skinner of Irving, Texas; four grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in
death by one son, Paul A. Long; three brothers, Victor Long, Carl Long and
Jake Long; and one sister, Hilda Long.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Morell Funeral Home in
Larned, with the Rev. Dan Lundgren officiating. A private family burial
will take place at a later time. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service
time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the
Alzheimer's Association, in care of the funeral home.

Bernice F. Rabe 1911-2001
JETMORE - Bernice F. Rabe, 90, died Sept. 14 at Hodgeman County Long Term
Care Center in Jetmore. She was born April 11, 1911, in Hodgeman County,
the daughter of V.M. and Iva Mae Rice Simmons. She married John H. Rabe
June 6, 1934, in Newkirk, Okla. He died May 30, 1980. A resident of
Jetmore, she was a school teacher at Pleasant Hill District 58 and Jetmore
Grade School. She also worked at Hodgeman County Treasurer Office and
Farmers' State Bank for 23 years.
Mrs. Rabe was a member of United Presbyterian Church, Senior Center, Sunday
school superintendent and Sunday school teacher, all of Jetmore.
Survivors include one son, Jack Rabe of Jetmore; one daughter, Janis Carder
of Aurora, Colo.; one brother, Harry Simmons of Alvord, Texas; two sisters,
Gladys Moore and Oleta Wallace, both of Meade, Okla.; three grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, James
"Jim" R. Rabe; two brothers, Levi Simmons and Vernon Simmons; and four
sisters, Dorothy Simmons, Harritt Simmons, Vivan Simmons and Verna Mae
Simmons.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Jo
Clipson officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount cemetery in Jetmore.
Friends may call until 8 tonight at Beckwith Funeral Home in Jetmore.
Memorials are suggested to the church or Hodgeman County Long Term Care
Center, both in care of the funeral home.
