Samuel D. 'Duane' Anderson Kitch 1931-2001
LARNED - Samuel "Sam" D. "Duane" Anderson Kitch, 69, died Sept. 14 in Ft.
Dodge. He was born Oct. 28, 1931, in Rozel, the son of Harry Evander and
Lena Huddleston Kitch. He married Lila Mae Skelton March 14, 1954, in
Roswell, N.M. She died March 3, 1997. A former resident of Pawnee County
and Kinsley, he was a mechanic.
Kitch was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, receiving the Korean
Service Medal, Bronze Medal with three stars, United States Service Medal
and the National Defense Service Medal.
Survivors include one son, Lee A. Armour of Burnet, Texas; one daughter,
Rita Ann Neilson of Coldwater; nine grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Glayd V.
Kitch and Harold J. Kitch.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in
Larned. Burial will be at Browns Grove cemetery in Burdett. Friends may
call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time, all at the
morturary. Memorials are suggested to Kansas Soldier's Home or Disabled
American Veterans, both in care of the morturary.

Gene Clifford Scheufler 1927-2001
ELLINWOOD - Gene Clifford Scheufler, 74, died September 14 at Hutchinson
Hospital in Hutchinson. He was born January 10, 1927 in rural Ellinwood,
the son of Clifford and Opal Seward Scheufler. He married Carol I. Schmidt
May 8, 1953 in Ellinwood. A lifetime resident of Ellinwood, he was a
retired farmer and stockman.
Scheufler was a member of Barton County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife of the home. He was preceded in death by one
brother, Max Scheufler.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Kimple Funeral Home with the
Rev. John Durham officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District
Cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m.
to noon on Monday at the funeral home. memorials are suggested to the
Ellinwood United Methodist Church, Area Health Care Foundation or Donor's
Choice all in care of the funeral home.

Cara Marie Unruh 1960-2001
Cara Marie Unruh, 40, of Great Bend died September 13 in Barton County as a
result of a car accident. She was born Dec. 3, 1960 at Great Bend, the
daughter of Albert L. 'Buck' Sr. and Marcia young Copeland Unruh. A
lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was a office employee of Central
Kansas Medical Center St. Rose Campus in Great Bend.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Church Choir , Hanna
Circle, and taught Sunday school for Re-Trainable Adults, all of Great Bend.
Survivors include her parents of Great Bend; one brother, Albert L. Unruh
Jr. of Osawatomie; one half-brother, Randolph Leigh Copeland MD of Gallup,
N.M.; and one half-sister, Pamela Ann Munoz of Klamath Falls, Org.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bryant-Christains Chapel in
Great Bend with the Rev. Jana Baxter officiating. Burial will be at
Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today
at the funeral home. The family will receive from 4-6 p.m. today at the
funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church in care of the funeral
home.

Merele Tuttle Gales 1919-2001
BELPRE - Merle Tuttle Gales, 81, died Sept. 14. She was born Oct. 12, 1919
the daughter of James and Lydia Tuttle. She was a 1938 graduate of Belpre
High School. She married Roger P. Gales Nov. 14, 1939. A resident of
Buffalo, Okla. since 1995 coming from Belpre.
Survivors include one son, Gary Roger Gales of Wichita; two daughter, Mary
Ann Eveland of Wichita and Debra Sue Waddle of Buffalo; 12 grandchildren,
one step-grandchild; 26 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren,
and two step-great grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernard's Church in Belpre
with the Rev. Dennis L. Reed officiating. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. on
Tuesday and Minnis Chapel in Macksville. Memorials are suggested to the
church or the American Cancer Society both in care of the funeral home.

Betty L. Veatch 1923-2001
ST. JOHN - Betty L. Veatch, 78, died Sept. 14 at Central Kansas Medical
Center St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born July 30, 1923 at Watford
City, N.D., the daughter of John A. and Olive A Alex. She married Quentin
S. Veatch Dec. 25, 1948 in St. John, he died Nov. 2, 1983. A resident of
St. John she was a homemaker, Director of Sunflower Senior Center,
Certified Medical Aide at Hearthstone Nursing Home, Clerk of Skogmos
Department Store, had a daycare center at her home, and worked for Stafford
County Abstract Office.
Mrs. Veatch was a member of First United Methodist Church, Martha Rebekah
Lodge, past president of Womens Auxilary and Progressive Mothers Club all
of St. John.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Q. Veatch of Wheatland, Calif., and
Dennis Lee Veatch, of Dodge City; three sisters, Evelyn Marrone of New Port
Md., Florence Jore of Watford City, N.D., and Fern Tweden of Dickinson
N.D.; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by one brother, Valerus Alex and one sister, Virginia Thorvelson.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Minnis Chapel in St. John
with the Rev. W. Harlan Rittgers officiating. Burial will be at Fairview
Park cemetery in St. John. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. on Monday at the
funeral home. Memorials aresuggested to the Sunflower Senior Citizens.

Hugh S. Miles 1914-2001
Hugh S. Miles, 86, of Great Bend, died Sept. 14 at Cherry Village Nursing
Home in Great Bend. He was born Nov. 30, 1914 at Carlye, Ill., the son of
Hugh Starrett and Nona Shaffer Miles. he married Arlene H. Gerfen April 26,
1943 in Breese, Ill. A resident of Great Bend since 1968 coming from
Ardmore, Okla., he was a retired production superintendent for Conoco Oil
Company.
Miles was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Great Bend Rotary Club,
American Legion, Golden Belt Country Club and Masonic Lodge. He was a Navy
veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Robert Hugh Miles of
Guymon, Okla.; two daughters, Jeanne Miles Shaheen of Farmington, N.M., and
Janis Miles Cross of Great Falls, Mont.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Hal
Staats officiating. Burial will be at great Bend cemetery in Great Bend.
Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at
Bryant-Christians Funeral Home, and 1 p.m. until service time at the
church. Memorials are suggested to the church or Golden Belt Hospice both
in care of the funeral home.

Duane Frank Spreier 1949-2001
JETMORE - Duane Frank Spreier, 52, died Sept. 13 at his home in Jetmore. He
was born Feb. 8, 1949, in Great Bend, the son of Frank and Mildred Berger
Spreier. He married Karen Reeves Jan. 26, 1969, in Great Bend. A resident
of Jetmore, coming from Rozel and Great Bend, he worked as a heavy
equipment operator for the county and farmer.
Spreier was a member of United Methodist Church in Jetmore and Kansas Horse
Council.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Shawn Spreier of Larned;
one daughter, Sherry Grover of Jetmore; his parents of Jetmore; one sister,
Diane Spreier of Larned; and two grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Mitch
Reece officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount cemetery in Jetmore. Friends
may call until 8 tonight at Beckwith Funeral Home in Jetmore. Memorials are
suggested to Camp Hope, in care of the funeral home.

William Woodroe 'Woody' Wilhite 1918-2001
PAWNEE ROCK - William Woodroe "Woody" Wilhite, 83, died Sept. 13 at Halsey
Hall, Fort Dodge. He was born May 24, 1918, in Caney, Okla., the son of Ed
and Alice Sewell Wilhite. He married Mary Louise Hill Oct. 3, 1943, in
Pawnee Rock. A resident of rural Pawnee Rock since 1941, he was a retired
farmer and trucker.
Wilhite was a member of The Christian Church in Pawnee Rock. He was a U.S.
Army-Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, John A. Wilhite of Larned
and Jack L. Wilhite of Amarillo, Texas; two brothers, R.P. "Jim" Wilhite of
Ardmore, Okla., and B.L. "Leon" Wilhite of Paris, Texas; one sister, Othell
Anderson of Atoka, Okla.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and
one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Don Paden
officiating. Burial will be at Pawnee Rock Cemetery. Friends may call from
9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned, with
the family receiving from 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Memorials are suggested to the
church, in care of the funeral home.

Mildred L. Hanshew 1915-2001
LARNED - Mildred L. Hanshew, 85, died Sept. 13 at Larned Health Care and
Living Center in Larned. She was born Sept. 29, 1915, in Pawnee County, the
daughter of William Highland and Annie Heney Fairchild. She married Elmer
Leon Schreiber Jan. 31, 1937, in Pawnee County. He died June 25, 1951. She
married D.W. "Bill" Hanshew March 14, 1954, in Haven. He died Aug. 29,
1979. A resident of Pawnee County, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hanshew was a member of First Christian Church and Happy Harmony Club,
both of Larned.
Survivors include one son, Phil Schreiber of Larned; two stepsons, Dudley
Hanshew of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Loren Dean Hanshew of St. Louis, Mo.;
one brother, Harry Fairchild of Larned; one sister, Lois Dick of
Lanchester, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by one son, Eldon Schreiber; two brothers, James
Fairchild and William F. Fairchild; and three sisters, Alice Aggson,
Marietta Vratil and Ethel Dugger.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Daniel
Lundgren officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call
until 8 tonight at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned. Memorials are
suggested to Larned Emergency Medical Service, in care of the mortuary.

Clyde C.E. Rouser Jr. 1936-2001
MOUNT HOPE - Clyde C.E. Rouser Jr., 64, died Sept. 12 in Wichita. He was
born Oct. 19, 1936, in Mount Hope, the son of Clyde E. Sr. and Marjorie M.
Reimers Rouser. He married JoAnn Cibolski Nov. 28, 1959, in Wichita. A
resident of Mount Hope, he was retired from Boeing Aircraft Company and a
farmer.
Rouser was a member of Masonic Lodge 238 and Mount Hope Planning Commission.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Mark Allen Rouser of
Andale; one daughter, Diana Lynn Eash of Hutchinson; one brother, Duane C.
Rouser of Great Bend; two sisters, Dorothy Fiskin of Hutchinson and June
Davis of Salina; and five grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Federated Church in Mount Hope, with
the Rev. Daniel Ensz officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call until 9 tonight at Wulf-Ast Mortuary in Mount Hope.
Memorials are suggested to the church or Mount Hope Ambulance Fund, both in
care of the mortuary.

Cara Marie Unruh, 40, of Great Bend, died Sept. 13 in Barton County, as a
result of a car accident. Survivors and funeral arrangements will be
announced by Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend.

John Dwayne Boyd 1955-2001
John Dwayne Boyd, 46, of Great Bend, died Sept. 8 at Via Christi Regional
Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born May 9, 1955, in
Santa Monica, Calif., the son of John J. and Mildred Irene Holloway Boyd. A
resident of Great Bend, he was a construction laborer for Glassman
Corporation in Hays.
Survivors include his companion, Janet E. Roach of Great Bend; one son,
Johnny Boyd Jr. of California; one daughter, Jessica Boyd of California;
two brothers, Michael V. Boyd and Bruce M. Boyd, both of Otis; and one
granddaughter.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home Chapel
in Great Bend, with the Rev. Bill Wolf officiating. Burial will be at Great
Bend Cemetery. There is no visitation, cremation has taken place. Memorials
are suggested to Kidney Foundation of Kansas, in care of the funeral home.
