Berniece Pauline Dixon 1916-2002
BURDETT - Berniece Pauline Dixon, 85, died Jan. 30 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus in Larned. She was born Sept. 29, 1916, in Hanston, the daughter of George Arthur and Maidie Martha Hoff Powell. She married Edward H. Dixon Aug. 4, 1937, in Larned. He died Aug. 4, 1990. A longtime resident of Burdett, she was a homemaker, school bus driver and cook for USD 496 and helped her husband at their Sinclair Service Station for 30 years. Mrs. Dixon was a member of First Baptist Church in Hanston, Burdett Seniors and Jolly Dozen Club, both of Burdett. Survivors include one son, Larry Dixon of Burdett; three daughters, Carol Wheeldon of Charlotte, N.C., Janet Dixon Pitts of Larned and Sharon Nichols of Derby; one sister, Sylvia D. Hoagland of Burdett; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, George Powell, Lester Powell, Merle Powell, Chester A. Powell and Roy E. Powell; two sisters, Hazel Salmans and Birdie Macy. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned, with the Rev. John Grummon officiating. Burial will be at Browns Grove cemetery in Burdett. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Burdett Emergency Medical Service, in care of the funeral home. Feb. 1, 2002

Edna Mae Rush 1911-2002
WAYNOKA, Okla. - Edna Mae Rush, 90, died Jan. 29 at Share Medical Center in Alva, Okla. She was born April 7, 1911, in Ellsworth County, the daughter of Charles and Myrtle Oney Johnson. She attended Sterling College. She married Laurn Rush in 1929 in McPherson. He died Sept. 22, 1954. A resident of Waynoka, coming from Rice County, she was a school teacher in Rice, Ellsworth and Barton counties until she retired. Mrs. Rush was a member of Church of Christ in Wichita. Survivors include one son, Sherrill "Shenney" Rush of Wichita; one daughter, Karmen Patricia Guillford of Waynoka; two sisters, Eunice Davidson of Miltonvale and Ethyle Hulse of Marquette; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Elmer "Duke" Rush; three sisters, Eleanor Johnson, Elizabeth Murray and Edith Van Norman. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons, with the Rev. Robert Friesen officiating. Burial will be at Geneseo cemetery in Geneseo. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Monday, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Foundation, in care of the funeral home. Feb. 1, 2002

Albina F. Schuckman 1913-2002
LA CROSSE ­ Albina F. Schuckman, 88, died Jan. 31 at Rush County Nursing Home in La Crosse. She was born Nov. 23, 1913 at Munjor, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine Frank Herl. She married Leonard Schuckman Sr. Nov. 9, 1932 at Munjor. He died May 9, 1989. A resident of La Crosse, coming from Hays, she was a part of the Student Union Staff of Fort Hays State University. Mrs. Schuckman was a member of St. Josephis Catholic Church in Liebenthal and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hays. Survivors include two sons, Charles R. Schuckman of Rodgers, Ark., and Leonard Schuckman Jr. of Wichita; one daughter, Rita Depperschmidt of La Crosse; one brother, Robert Herl of Munjor; two sisters, Genevieve Schuckman, and Leona Charles both of Salina; ten grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Herl; and one sister, Bertha Schaffer. Rosary will be at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Liebenthal, with the Revs. Benjamin Martin and Ken Schuckman officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's cemetery in Liebenthal. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. Monday, with a pray service at 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimeris Association. Feb. 3, 2002

Margaret M. Elstun 1918-2002
LYONS - Margaret M. Elstun, 83, died Feb. 1 at Lyons Good Samaritan Center in Lyons. She was born Dec. 16, 1918 at Beaver. The daughter of Jacob and Mary Ann Meyeres Depiesse. She married Howard Eli "Bud" Elstun, April 24, 1938 at Great Bend. He died Dec. 9, 1975. A resident of Lyons, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Elstun was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beaver. Survivors include three sisters, Elsie Hinkley of El Chaoien, Calif., Sidonia Barlett of Lakeside, Calif., and Jean Polzin of Hoisington. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Jac Depiesse, Lawrence Depiesse, John Depiesse, Art Depiesse, and Earl Depiesse; and five sisters, Ann Reif, Viola Depiesse, Marion Kuxhause, Georgia Mae Hildreth, and Adelia Schremmer. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Lyons, with the Rev. James Leland officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal cemetery in Lyons. Memorials are suggested to Lyons Good Samaritan Center or the Donoris Choice both in care of Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Feb. 3, 2002

Floyd Rittenhouse 1910-2002
HANSTON - Floyd Rittenhouse, 91, died Jan. 31 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. He was born Feb. 2, 1910 at Gray. The son of Nehemiah and Mable L. Eakin Rittenhouse. A resident of Hanston, he was a laborer, farmer and railroader. Rittenhouse was a member of United Methodist Church in Hanston. He was a World War II veteran. Survivors include one brother, James Rittenhouse of Hanston. Graveside service with military rites will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hanston Cemetery, with the Rev. Tony Horsley officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Beckwith Funeral Home in Jetmore. The casket will remain closed. No memorials are suggested. Funeral arrangements are in care of Beckwith Funeral Home in Jetmore. Feb. 3, 2002

Margaret Margie Wagner 1910-2002
ELLSWORTH - Margaret Margie Wagner, 91, died Jan. 31 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. She was born July 25, 1910 at Ellsworth County. The Daughter of William and Dora Warta Kubick. She married Elmer F. Wagner, April 22, 1929 at Salina. He died April 13, 1993. A lifetime resident of Ellsworth, she was a homemaker, and a school teacher at Holyrood Grade School after teaching in country schools. Survivors include one daughter, Frances Jirik Alan of Hoisington. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth, with the Rev. Jim Newkirk officiating. Burial will be at Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time on Monday. Memorials are suggested to Hoisington Rehabilitation Center, First United Methodist church of Ellsworth and Great Bend Humane Society. Feb. 3, 2002

James R. Sorem 1932-2002
JETMORE ­ James R. Sorem, 69, died Jan. 31 at Hodgeman County Health Center in Jetmore. He was born July 7, 1932. The son of Roy and L. Mae Able Sorem. He was a Kansas University graduate with a degree in aeronautical engineering. He married Mary Joanne Schauvliege Nov. 25, 1954 at Jetmore. A lifetime resident of Hodgeman County, he was a farmer. Sorem was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Jetmore, a board member of Lane Scott, Farmeris State Bank, Pawnee Watershed, Hodgeman County Health Center, and Senior Center, Hodgeman County commissioner, Parish Council, Kansas University Alumni Association, and former Farm Service Agency member. Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, James Sorem Jr. of Tulsa, Okla., Richard Sorem of Jetmore, William Sorem of Houston, Texas, and Robert Sorem of Lawrence; one daughter, Jenifer Rivera of Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Rowena Wilson of Jetmore; and ten grandchildren. Vigil will be at 7 p.m. today at the church. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church in Jetmore, with the Rev. Henry Hildenbrandt officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount cemetery in Jetmore. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Beckwith Funeral Home in Jetmore. Memorials are suggested to the church or Hodgeman County EMS both in care of the funeral home. Feb. 3, 2002

Marie Edith Copp 1922-2002
HOUSTON TEXAS ­ Marie Edith Copp, 78, died Jan. 31 at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was born Oct. 30, 1922 at Walker. The daughter of Adam and Margaret Weigel Brungardt. She married Theodore F. Copp Dec. 27, 1947 at Emmeram. He died Feb. 9, 1989. A residence of Houston for three years, coming from Great Bend and Lyons, she was a certified nurses aide. Mrs. Copp was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and Altar Society both of Great Bend. Survivors include one son, Arthur Copp of El Dorado; two daughters, Geraldine "Gerry" Turner of Houston, and Frances "Fran" Falcon of Great Bend; two brothers; and one grandson. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Altar Society Rosary will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Warren Stecklein officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. Memorials are suggested to Kidney Foundation in care of the funeral home. Feb. 3, 2002

Alvin Lee 'Al' Robl 1937-2002
HUTCHINSON - Alvin Lee "Al" Robl. 64, died Feb. 1 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born Feb. 8, 1937 at Hutchinson. The son of Alvin A. and Martha Irene Link Robl. He was a graduate of Chase High School and Fort Hays State University in Hays. A resident of Hutchinson since 1961, coming from Chase, he was a Quality Control Manager at Morton Salt, Co. Robl was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Hutchinson, Knights of Columbus Council 612, third degree in Hutchinson, and Knights of Columbus, Colorado Assembly, fourth degree of Great Bend. Survivors include two brothers, John Robl of Hutchinson and Martin Robl of Lyons; and one sister, Norma Miller of Lyons. Parish rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday and a Knights of Columbus rosary to follow, both at Elliot Mortuary Chapel in Hutchinson. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church in Hutchinson, with the Rev. Richard F. Stuchlik officiating. Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Hutchinson Hospital Dialysis Unit care of the Hutchinson Hospital, both in care of the mortuary. Feb. 3, 2002

Dianna Fae Gillett 1950-2002
LARNED - Dianna Fae Gillett, 51, died Feb. 2 at her home in Larned. She was born June 30, 1950, in Marion, the daughter of Walter F. and Katherine Bishoff Otte. She married David W. Gillett May 30, 1998, in rural Galva. A resident of Larned since 1998, coming from McPherson, she worked as a paraprofessional for USD 495. Mrs. Gillett was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Lincolnville, past Scout Troop 130 leader and charter member of The Gallery, both of McPherson. Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Scott C. Thrift of Wichita, Kevin C. Thrift of Rosemont, Minn., and Patrick A. Thrift of McPherson; four stepsons, Steve Gillett, Gary Gillett and Brian Gillett, all of Larned, and Eric Gillett of Manhattan; her parents of Herington; one brother, Stan Otte of Dwight; and one step-grandson. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Alan Stahlecker officiating. Burial will be at Lincolnville Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, all at Morell Funeral Home in Larned, and from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Scout Troop 130 or Kansas State University Cancer Research, both in care of the funeral home. Feb. 4, 2002

Frances E. 'Fran' Malir 1933-2002
WILSON - Frances E. "Fran" Malir, 68, died Feb. 2. She was born Feb. 18, 1933, in Tampa. She married Eugene Malir. A resident of Tampa, she was a retired school teacher. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Rick Malir; one daughter, Nancy Malir; and four sisters, Agnes Bina, Margaret Jirak, Sanine Bollig and Madelne Anderson. Vigil service will be at 7:30 tonight at Foster Mortuary in Wilson. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson. Burial will be at St. Wenceslaus cemetery in Wilson. Friends may call until 8 tonight at the mortuary. Robert R. Hoyt 1930-2002
HOISINGTON - Robert R. Hoyt, 71, died Feb. 1 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Feb. 25, 1930, in Nashville, the son of Raymond and Marie Huhman Hoyt. He married Marilyn Louise Warner Sept. 13, 1959, in Hoisington. A resident of Hoisington since 1961, coming from Great Bend, he worked as a pharmacist, retiring from Cheyenne Drug Store in Hoisington after 20 years. Hoyt was a member of First Christian Church, Masonic Lodge 331 AF and AM, Eastern Star Unit, Chapter 119, American Legion Post 286 and Clara Barton Foundation, all of Hoisington. He was former mayor and city councilman, both of Hoisington, and former Barton County Commissioner. He was Hoisington Citizen of the Year in 1978. He was a life member of KU Alumni Association, American Pharmacy Association, American Pharmacy Society Consultant, Kansas State Board of Pharmacists, Southwest Kansas Area Agency and BPOE 1127 of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of the home; and one sister, Shirley Rachal of Moorings, La. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, with the Rev. Mary Lou Klein officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington Cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites. Friends may call until 9 tonight, with family receiving friends from 7-8 tonight, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Masonic Lodge or the church, both in care of the funeral home. Feb. 4, 2002
