Hazel Mae Hull Risley 1913-2002
Hazel Mae Hull Risley, 89, of Great Bend, died March 24 at Homestead Health Center in Wichita. She was born Jan. 19, 1913, in St. Joseph, Mo., the daughter of Bertram C. and Julia A. Koontz Hull. She was a 1930 graduate of Great Bend High School. She married Albert L. Risley Feb. 1, 1948, in Wichita. He died July 15, 1955. A resident of Wichita for the past eight years, coming from Great Bend, where she spent more than 50 years, she was a retired telephone operator. Mrs. Risley was a member of Central Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, WCTU, Rebekah Lodge and LAPM, all of Great Bend. Survivors include three sons, Verlyn R. Risley and Albert L. Risley Jr., both of Wichita and Allyn W. Risley of Bartlesville, Okla.; one daughter, Carolyn Risley Hill of Wichita; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Chester A. Hull, John B. "Jack" Hull and Byron Dean Hull; five sisters, Una Myrle Johnson, Zoe V. Mohr, Helen A. Allen, Beatrice C. Radke and Ruth B. Siefers; and one great-grandson, Malachi J. Thornton. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Fryberger Mortuary Chapel in Great Bend, with the Rev. Howard Sorenson officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels of Barton County, in care of the mortuary. March 26, 2002

Gregory J. Collins 1978-2002
Gregory J. Collins, 23, of Great Bend, died March 22 in Great Bend. He was born Sept. 25, 1978, in Bad-Canstadt, Germany, the son of James III and Jerri Lynne Knisell Collins. A resident of Great Bend, he worked as a construction laborer. Collins was an inactive member of the Jehovah's Witness congregation. Survivors include his parents of Great Bend; one brother, Anthony Collins of Great Bend; one sister, Adrienne Collins of Great Bend; and grandparents, Joseph and Nila Knisell of Holiday, Fla. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fryberger Mortuary Chapel in Great Bend, with Edward J. Forton officiating. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary, with family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Gregory J. Collins Memorial, in care of the mortuary. March 25, 2002

Leslie L. Schultz 1918-2002
PAWNEE ROCK - Leslie L. Schultz, 83, died March 24 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Oct. 17, 1918, in Barton County, the son of Abraham and Susie Unruh Schultz. He married Fern J. Behrens Oct. 23, 1941, in Albert. She died June 21, 1981. He married Janice M. Scheck May 20, 1982, in Pawnee Rock. He was a lifelong resident of Pawnee Rock. Schultz was a member of Bergthal Mennonite Church in Pawnee Rock and Civilian Public Service in Colorado Springs, Colo. Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Ronda Hixon of Dodge City, Debra Schultz of Tulsa, Okla., and Marla Davidson of Great Bend; one stepson, Mike Mauler of Great Bend; three stepdaughters, Susan Grimes of Auburn, Calif., Michele Johnson of Gainesville, Mo., and Sandra Kuhn of Omaha, Neb.; eight grandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter Schultz, Frank Schultz and Dewey Schultz; and five sisters, Verna Schultz, Virgie Deckert, Lena Hanson, Sadie Gore and Juanita Miller. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Muriel T. Stackley officiating. Burial will be at Mennonite Memorial cemetery in Pawnee Rock. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church or M.C.C. Relief Sale, both in care of the funeral home. March 25, 2002

Elizabeth Jean McQuiston 1934-2002
DEMING, N.M. - Elizabeth Jean McQuiston, 67, died March 18, at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruses, N.M. She was born April 14, 1934, at Plainville, the daughter of Rufus and Viola Horner. She married William J. McQuiston. He preceded her in death. A resident of Deming since 1986, coming from Great Bend, she was a homemaker and retired foster grandparent for the Deming public schools. Survivors include three sons, Darrell Wilson of Paducah, Ky., Terry Wilson of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Mark Ryan of Liberty, Mo.; three daughters, Bonnie Langston of Paducah, Julie Raybern of Hudson, and Joleen McQuiston of Great Bend; two brothers, Jack Horner of LaPoint, Utah, and Charles Horner of Fountain Valley, Calif.; three sisters, Lois Deines of Wakeeney, Bonnie Hoffman of Lake Alesmore, Calif., and June Floyd of Dallas, Texas; and 17 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey L. Wilson. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Church in Hudson. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, in care of the church. March 24, 2002

Rosemary G. Farmer 1915-2002
RUSSELL - Rosemary G. Farmer, 87, died March 21, at Russell Regional Hospital in Russell. She was born Jan. 22, 1915, at Charleston, Mo., the daughter of Harry Simpson and Mary Catherine "Cassie" Presson Giltz. She married John O. Farmer Jr. on May 22, 1937, at Hobbs, N.M. He died May 2, 1989. A resident of Russell, coming from Great Bend, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Farmer was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Russell. Survivors include two sons, John O. Farmer III of Russell and William Farmer of New York, N.Y.; one daughter, Mary Kathryn Lyczak of Russell; one sister Aura Gertrude "Trudy" Volmer of Cincinnati, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one infant son, James Giltz Farmer; and two brothers, Harry Giltz and John Giltz. Vigil will be at 7 p.m. tonight at the church in Russell. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Revs. Charles Steier and James Grennan officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's cemetery in Russell. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. today and from 9-10 a.m. Monday, all at the church. Memorials are suggested to Russell Area Community Foundation, St. Mary's Catholic Church Fund, Russell Regional Hospital or Dream Theater in Russell, all in care of Cline's Mortuary in Hays. Susan Atteberry Lindstrom 1956-2002
PHOENIX, Ariz. - Susan Atteberry Lindstrom, 45, died March 15 in Phoenix. She was born Aug. 15, 1956, at Hutchinson, the daughter of Duane and Joan Atteberry. She was a graduate of Camelback High School in Phoenix, and of a cosmetology school in Scottsdale, Ariz. Mrs. Lindstrom was a member of Albright United Methodist Church. Survivors include her parents of Payson, Ariz.; one brother Allen "Buz" Stalcup of Cave Creek, Ariz., and her companion, Layne Wagner of Phoenix. Memorial services will be held April 6 in Phoenix. March 24, 2002

Kenneth Eugene Miller 1939-2002
Kenneth Eugene Miller, 62, of Great Bend, died March 17 at his home. He was born July 13, 1939, at Hutchinson, the son of Edward Ernest and Leota Clede Self Miller. A resident of Great Bend, coming from Union City, Cailf., he was a television technician for Montgomery Ward. Miller was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include one brother, Larry Kurtz of Great Bend. Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery in Hutchinson at a later date. There is no visitation and no memorials are suggested. Great Bend Family Mortuary and Crematory are in charge of the arrangements. March 24, 2002

Bertha N. Rose 1918-2002
WICHITA - Bertha N. Rose, 83, died March 21. She was born Aug. 17, 1918, at Golf, the daughter of Louis D. and Emma Roark Keiswetter. She married Larry Rose. A resident of Wichita, coming from Great Bend, she was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband of the home; one daughter, Linda D. Riemann of Wichita; and two sisters, Ola Wallace of Great Bend and Edna Hall of Horton. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel in Wichita. There is no visitation listed. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Association, in care of the chapel. March 24, 2002

Grace Lavada Simmons 1917-2002
LARNED - Grace Lavada Simmons, 84, died March 23, at Healthcare and Living Center in Larned. She was born Oct. 18, 1917, in Pawnee County, the daughter of Henry Daniel and Sarah Elizabeth McClernon Bird. She married Vincent Dennis Simmons, Jan. 18, 1938, at Larned. He died March 14, 2001. A lifetime resident of Larned, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Simmons was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society, both in Larned. Survivors include five sons, Vincent H. Simmons of Garden City, Jerome Simmons of Olathe, Joseph Simmons and Kevin Simmons, both of Larned, and Patrick Simmons of Howard; three daughters, Lavada Rowe of Scranton, Veronica Holloman of Topeka and Monica Schneweis of Dodge City; one brother, Eldred Bird of Raytown, Mo.; one sister, Faye Carpenter of Larned; 25 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil Bird and Harold Bird. Vigil will be at 7 p.m. tonight at the church in Larned. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Dennis Reed officiating. Burial will be at Larned cemetery in Larned. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart School Endowment or the Larned Healthcare and Living Center Resident Activity Fund, both in care of the funeral home. March 24, 2002

Herman K. Brack 1915-2002
OTIS - Herman K. Brack, 86, died March 23 at Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse. He was born Oct. 10, 1915, at Otis, the son of John F. and Mary Herman Brack. He married Juanita Brack, Feb. 27, 1938, in Otis. A lifetime resident of Otis, he was a retired farmer. Brack was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Otis. Survivors include his wife of the home; his stepfather, Casper Harting; and one sister, Edna Schneider. Funeral will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday at the church, with the Revs. Jeri Dexheimer and Margaret Gary officiating. Burial will be at Lutheran cemetery in Otis. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, both at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Frances Helen Hirsch 1903-2002
ELLINWOOD - Frances Helen Hirsch, 98, died March 20 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Long Term Care, in Ellinwood. She was born Nov. 8, 1903, in Ellinwood, the daughter of Terrance Chris and Anna Reiman Hermes. She was a 1928 graduate of St. Frances School of Nursing in Wichita. She married William Frederick 'Bill' Hirsch Nov. 18, 1935, in Ellinwood. He died Aug. 15, 1958. A lifelong resident of Ellinwood, she worked as a registered nurse. Mrs. Hirsch was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar Society both of Ellinwood; charter member and first president of Ellinwood District Hospital Auxiliary in 1952 and was a charter member and officer of the Ellinwood Heritage Club. Survivors include one brother, Kenneth Hermes of Durango, Colo. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe Hermes, Leon Hermes, George Hermes and Harold Hermes; and three sisters, Edna Hermes, Mildred Hermes and Carrie Hermes. Altar Society Rosary will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. David Flagor officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph School Endowment Fund or Ellinwood heritage Club, both in care of the funeral home. March 21, 2002

Elva Laura Housman 1903-2002
HANSTON - Elva Laura Housman, 98, died March 21 at Hodgeman County Long Term Care Center in Jetmore. She was born Dec. 7, 1903, in Woodward, Okla., the daughter of James and Laura Dimmick Fakes. She married Elmer Housman Dec. 8, 1921, in Hanston. He died March 16, 1958. A longtime resident of Hanston, she worked as a nurse and was a farm wife. Mrs. Housman was a member of First Christian Church of Dodge City. Survivors include one son, Don Housman of Hanston; one daughter, Lelia Ward of Jetmore; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Walter Housman and David Housman; four brothers, Roy Fakes, Ben Fakes, Dallas Fakes and Jack Fakes; four sisters, Effie Clifton, Clara Salmans, Grace Arthur and Charity Eichman; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Jetmore, with the Rev. Mark Durham officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount cemetery in Jetmore. Friends may call until 8 p.m. tonight at Beckwith Funeral Home in Jetmore. Memorials are suggested to Hodgeman County Long Term Care Center, in care of the funeral home. March 21, 2002

Earl Ray 'Tex' Adams 1924-2002
STERLING - Earl Ray "Tex" Adams, 77, died March 20 at Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson. He was born July 12, 1924, in Florence, the son of Roy J. and Gladys Goldie McCarty Adams. He married June Morgart Feb. 6, 1988, in Arkansas City. A resident of Sterling for 15 years, coming from Chase, he was a retired truck driver for the oil fields. Adams was a member of American Legion in Sterling. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Jimmy R. Adams of Overland Park, Kenneth L. Adams of Joplin, Mo., and David L. Adams of Wichita; four daughters, Kay Cox of Appleton, Wis., Gladys Miller of Partridge, Lisa Yadager of Wichita and Kathy Swigart of Overland Park; two stepsons, Lonnie Morgan of Pensacola, Fla., and Larry Morgan of Raymond; one stepdaughter, Debbie Sowers of Lyons; two brothers, John Adams of Chase and Harry Adams of Great Bend; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, LaDon Adams, Gene Adams, Berdine Adams and Merle Adams; and one sister, Louise Estabrook. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chase Springdale cemetery in Chase, with the Rev. Jerry Fenwick officiating. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. today at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Memorials are suggested to Center for Basic Cancer Research, Kansas State University, in care of the funeral home. March 21, 2002
