Clayton Thomas Milloway 1909-2002
LONGMONT, COLO. — Clayton Thomas Milloway, 93, died Dec. 27 at Hospice of Boulder County Care Center of Louisville, Colo. He was born Sept. 13, 1909 in Larned, the son of Todd Lewis and Hattie May Moore Milloway. He married Helen Marie Currie on July 25, 1933 in Larned. She died Oct. 14, 1996. A resident of Longmont since 1987, coming from Larned, he was a retired office manager for Broce and Smith Contractors in Larned. Milloway was a member of the First Christian Church of Larned and the First Christian Church of Loveland, Colo., past member of the Rotary Club for 45 years and American Legion, both of Larned. Elected to the office of Pawnee County Treasurer, prior to World War II, he left his term to enlist in the U.S. Navy. Survivors include three daughters, Janet Stacey of Hygiene, Colo., Harriet Kay Kracklauer of Longmont, and Carol Elder of Brentwood, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Claude Allen. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Larned cemetery of Larned, with the Rev. Dan Lundgren officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Boulder County Care Center in care of Morell Funeral Home of Larned. Dec. 29, 2002

Thomas E. McCray Sr. 1917-2002
SALINA — Thomas E. McCray Sr, 85, died Dec. 24 at Salina. He was born Jan. 25, 1917, at Neodesha. He married Alvera. She died in 2002. A longtime resident of Salina, he was a musician, having started the Tommy Mac Orchestra in the 1940’s and organizing the Dixie Six in Salina where he was a member for the past 26 years. He was a member of Salina Musicians Local, Wichita Musicians Local and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1432 of Salina. Survivors include one son, Thomas E. McCray Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; four daughters, Cammy Mays and Christi Manley, both of Salina, Connie Miller of Solomon and Corinne McCray of Houston; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral was Saturday at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina. Burial was at Mount Calvary cemetery in Salina. Memorials are suggested to the church or to Hospice of Dickinson County, in care of Ryan Mortuary of Salina. Dec. 29, 2002

Reg Wilson 1936-2002
TULSA, Okla. — Reg Wilson, 66, died Dec. 16 at Tulsa. He was born Feb. 21, 1936 in Hoisington, the son of Clyde Martin and Georgia Glenn Valerius Wilson. He married Judy Lewis Feb. 14, 1959, at Ponca City, Okla. He was a graduate of Garden City High School. A longtime resident of Tulsa, he was retired from Citgo in Tulsa. Wilson was a U.S. Army veteran, having served with Special Services in Germany. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Douglas Wilson and Mike Wilson, both of Tulsa; one daughter Kathleen Jackson of Dallas, Texas; his mother of Wichita; four sisters, Janet Boese of Hoisington, Gail Saxon and Jody Shorts, both of Wichita, and Georgia Mueller of Dodge City; and four grandchildren. Services were held Dec. 21 at First Baptist Church in Tulsa. Memorials are suggested to Tulsa ALS, Lou Gehrig’s Disease or Muscular Dystrophy Association, both in care of Moore’s Southlawn Chapel in Tulsa. Dec. 29, 2002

Lisa Anne Beedy 1959-2002
HAYS — Lisa Anne Beedy, 42, died Dec. 26 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. She was born Dec. 27, 1959, at Russell the daughter of Norman and Frances M. Kaps Hoffman. She received a degree from Fort Hays State University in 1982. She married Ric Beedy Aug. 1, 1981, at Russell. A resident of Hays, having lived in Russell during her early life, she worked at Insurance Planning for 12 years and was a volunteer for CASA for the past three years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hays. Survivors include one son, Chase Beedy of the home; one daughter, Lexus Beedy of the home; one brother, Dennis Hoffman of Lincoln, Neb.; one sister, Kaye Marie Barnes of Ottawa; and her father and step-mother, Hazel Hoffman of Great Bend. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church in Russell with the Rev. Harlan Kaden officiating. Inurnment will be at St. John Lutheran cemetery in Russell. There is no visitation. The body was cremated. Memorials are suggested to the Beedy Children’s fund or to Ellis County Cancer Council, both in care of Pohlman’s Mortuary in Russell. Dec. 29, 2002

Laurinda Hughes 1940-2002
PRATT — Laurinda Hughes, 62, died Dec. 27 at Pratt Regional Medical Center of Pratt. She was born May 26, 1940, in Hays, the daughter of Eugene P. and Johanna Pfannenstiel Befort. She graduated from Sacred Heart College in 1962, becoming a Sister of the Dominican Order in 1965. She graduated from Emporia State College in 1980 with a masters degree. She married Robert E. Hughes on June 6, 1987 in Pratt. A resident of the Pratt community since 1981, she was a retired school teacher and Kansas SRS worker. Mrs. Hughes was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Pratt. Survivors include her husband of the home; her parents; a step-son, Michael Hughes of Pratt; a step-daughter, Shelly Baldwin of Leavenworth; two brothers, Robert E. Befort of Enid, Okla., and John Ray Befort of Wichita; and two step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Richard F. Befort. A Rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sillin Funeral Home of Lyons. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Lyons, with the Rev. Thomas Leland officiating. Burial will be in the Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Catholic Church, in care of the funeral home. Dec. 29, 2002

E. Louise Meyer 1928-2002
ELLINWOOD — E. Louise Meyer, 74, died Dec. 27 at her home in Ellinwood. She was born Aug. 1, 1928 in Great Bend, the daughter of Elisha Asa and Mary Alice Smith Grow. She married Fred Meyer on May 8, 1946 in Stafford County. A resident of the Ellinwood and Hudson area, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Meyer was member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, both of Ellinwood. Survivors include one son, John Meyer of Ellinwood; four daughters, Nancy Tucker and Norma Robl, both of Ellinwood, Marlene Coble of Tucson, Ariz., and Joyce Riedel of Golden Valley, Ariz.; and one brother, Marion Grow of Great Bend; 22 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church in Ellinwood, with the Rev. Dave Wesner officiating. Burial will be in the Eden Valley cemetery in Seward. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Kimple Funeral Home of Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to the Ellinwood Grade School Nature Center or the church, in care of the funeral home. Dec. 29, 2002

Jimmy Thomas Lea Sr. 1947-2002
BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - Jimmie Thomas Lea Sr., 55, died Dec. 24 at his home in Bartlesville. He was born Nov. 27, 1947, at Lyons, the son of Walter Lea and Ruby Browning. He married Tana Smith May 15, 2000. He was a construction worker. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Jimmie T. Lea Jr. of Bartlesville and Michael S. Cole of Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Carmen E. Burrows of Kerryville, Texas, and Frankie L. Pelster of Great Bend; two step-sons, Peyton Reardon of Grand Lake near Disney and Andrew Shelley of Oilton, Olka.; three brothers, Joe Lea of Joplin, Mo., Troy Browning of Alden and Melvin Lea of Great Bend; one sister, Norma Gray of St. John; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Marvin Lea, Travis Lea, John Lea and A.C. Browning. Private family services will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations are suggested for the family, in care of Stumpff Funeral Home, 203 N.E. Meadowlark, Bartlesville, OK 74006. Dec 27, 2002

Mabel Darlene Moore 1927-2002
DODGE CITY - Mable Darlene Moore, 75, died Dec. 23 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. She was born July 6, 1927, at Olin, Iowa, the daughter of William and Rachel Reid Goarcke. She graduated from high school at Olwein, Iowa. She married Maurice Moore June 20, 1947, at Lost Nation, Iowa. He died Dec. 30, 1996. A former resident of Maquoketa and Autumwa, Iowa, for the past 10 years, and coming from Amarillo, Texas, El Paso, Texas, Arkansas City, Hoisington, Elkhart and Dodge City, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hoisington. Survivors include three sons, Sonny Douglas Moore of Arkansas City, Spencer Dean Moore of Great Bend and Stuart David Moore of Moscow; one daughter, Sandra Dianne Norton of Dodge City; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Merle Goarcke; one grandson; and one great-grandson. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Elkhart cemetery with the Rev. Jim Cunningham officiating. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart. Dec. 27, 2002.

Verna L. Paddock 1908-2002
KINSLEY - Verna L. Paddock, 94, died Dec. 23 at Medicalodge Nursing Home in Kinsley. She was born July 22, 1908, in Maxwell, Neb., the daughter of Arthur M. and Rinda E. Coppoc Horan. She received her masters degree for reading from Fort Hays State University. She married Tom R. Paddock Sept. 9, 1964, in Kinsley. A Kinsley resident since 1964, coming from Wichita, she was a teacher for the Kinsley public schools until her retirement. She was also employed by St. Nicholas Catholic School and St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Kinsley for 21 years as a secretary and treasurer. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Great Bend; Delta Kappa Gamma and St. Mary of the Plains College, both of Dodge City; and Womanas Auxiliary for the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Kinsley. Survivors include two sons, Earl Jones of Elgin, Texas, and Rick Paddock of Kinsley; two daughters, Sandy Brown of Denver, Colo., and Dorothy Clark of St. Clair, Mo.; one brother, Roger Horan of McGee, Ark.; one sister, Doris McCorstin of Sherman, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Kean; one granddaughter, Lori Kean; two brothers, Paul Horan and Shirley Horan; and one sister, Vester Horan. Memorial service was this morning at St.Nicholas Catholic Church in Kinsley with the Rev. David Hartsell officiating. Cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to St.Nicholas Catholic School, in care of Burkhart-Zeigler Funeral Chapel in Dodge City. Dec. 27, 2002

Ruth E. Huebner 1915-2002
BUSHTON - Ruth E. Huebner, 87, died Dec. 25 at Good Samaritan Center in Hays. She was born June 13, 1915, at Ellsworth County, the daughter of Oscar and Anna Homburg Wilkens. She married Adrian Leroy Huebner May 23, 1938, at Lorraine. He died April 2, 1987. Having been a longtime resident of Bushton, moving to Hays in March 2002, she was a homemaker. She was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Bushton Community Development Inc., all of Bushton. Survivors include two sons, Ron Huebner of Peoria, Ariz., and Dennis Huebner of Hays; one brother, Harold 'Red' Wilkens of Hutchinson; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Wilkens and Theodore Wilkens; and one sister, Fran Blum. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church in Bushton with the Rev. Janet Myers officiating. Cremation and burial will take place at a later date. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m., and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church or Bushton Community Development Inc., both in care of the funeral home. Dec. 27, 2002

John Joseph Boor 1914-2002
John Joseph Boor, 88, of Great Bend died Dec. 25 at Central Kansas Medical Center. He was born Jan. 22, 1914, at Odin, the son of John Joseph Sr. and Louise Elizabeth Beran Boor. He married Veronica Marie Schreiber Aug. 1, 1939, at Olmitz. She died Aug. 15, 1983. A resident of Great Bend since 1991, coming from Olmitz, he was a retired farmer and oilfield worker. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Eagles Lodge. Survivors include one son, John R. Boor of Great Bend; three daughters, Ronnie Lou Drees of Great Bend, Rosemary Cantrell of Annapolis, Md., and Carolyn Hall of Shawnee; two nieces, Marietta Lichter of Olmitz and Loretta Southard of Great Bend; five sisters, Teresa Weiser of Great Bend, Cecilia Gerstenkorn of Topeka, Eleanor Klug of Odin, Loretta Weiser of Great Bend and Alice Schneweis of Hutchinson; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters; and one nephew, Marion Ohnmacht. Vigil service will at at 7 tonight followed by Knights of Columbus rosary, both at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Annas Catholic Church in Olmitz with the Revs. Ultan Murphy and Colin Boor officiating. Burial will be at St. Annas cemetery in Olmitz. Friends may call until 9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church in Olmitz, in care of the funeral home. Dec. 27, 2002

Dorothy I. Merten 1912-2002
Dorothy I. Merten, 90, died Dec. 22 at Lifecare Center of Littleton, Colo. She was born Nov. 12, 1912, in Barton County, the daughter of Hugh Orville and Effie Ward Carmichael. She married Arthur Robert Merten March 9, 1932, in Great Bend. He died Sept. 2, 2001. A longtime Great Bend resident, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Merten was a member of First Christian Church in Great Bend. Survivors include two sons, Darrell E. Merten of Littleton and Robert L. Merten of Oak Harbor, Wash.; one brother, Howard Carmichael of Hutchinson; one sister, Betty Roepe of Hugoton; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn Carmichael, Kenneth Carmichael and Rex Carmichael. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church building fund or Porter Hospice of Denver, Colo., both in care of the funeral home. Dec. 26, 2002

Stacey Lee Maynard 1960-2002
ST. JOHN — Stacey Lee Maynard, 42, died Dec. 21 at her home. She was the daughter of John Maynard and Royce M. Clark. A resident of St. John for nine years, coming from Great Bend, she was a registered nurse for Pathways Resident Care Center in Macksville. Survivors include her mother of St. John; her father of Lake City, Ark.; one sister, Shelly Kern of Ellinwood; and one half-sister, Lisa Jeffers of Lake City. She was preceded in death by one brother, Mark Allen Maynard. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Golden Belt Memorial Park cemetery in rural Great Bend with the Rev. Carl Feril officiating. There is no visitation, the body was cremated. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice, in care of Minnis Chapel of St. John. Dec. 26, 2002
