Clement E. ‘Clem’ Barton 1919-2002
Clement E. “Clem” Barton, 83, died Dec. 9 at Great Bend. He was born July 6, 1919, at Waukesha, Wis., the son of Oscar and Mary Ball Barton. He married Cleo May. A resident of Great Bend since 1951, coming from Dodge City, he was owner and operator for B & B Auto Wrecking, retiring in 1986. He was a member and past president of Noon Lions Club, American Legion Post 180 and a former scout master of Troop 150, all of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the European Theatre in World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Greg Barton of Wichita; one daughter, Linda Carter of Stafford, Va.; one brother, Glenn Barton of Boise, Idaho; one sister, Virginia Page of Dodge City; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother, O.J. Barton and one sister, Melba Komarek. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home. Dec. 10, 2002

Margie H. ‘Georgie Bell’ Davis 1923-2002
HOISINGTON — Margie H. “Georgie Bell” Davis, 79, died Dec. 8 at Central Kansas Medical Center. She was born Jan. 4, 1923, in Mullinville, the daughter of James B. and Della Mae Barstow Carr. She married Donald W. Davis July 24, 1941, at Greensburg. He died Feb. 26, 1998. A resident of Hoisington since 1958, coming from Greensburg, she was a former employee of CO Mammels in Hoisington. She was a member of Hoisington Bible Church and AARP. Survivors include three sons, Don L. Davis of Great Bend and Jerrold D. and Michael L. Davis, both of Hoisington; two daughters, Shelly Laurent and Lisa Bunger, both of Hoisington; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Bill Carr, Bus Carr, John Pearl Carr and Virgil Carr; three sisters, Dot Carr, Lucy Burns and Zeppie Ramsey; and three grandchildren. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington with the Rev. Gary Clark officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. at Hillcrest cemetery in Mullinville. Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday; and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or Betty Littrell Memorial Scholarship in care of the funeral home. Dec. 10, 2002

Arthur R. ‘Art’ Riedel 1914-2002
VICTORIA — Arthur R. “Art” Riedel, 88, died Dec. 7 at St. John’s Nursing Home of Victoria. He was born March 7, 1914, at Victoria, the son of Andrew M. and Francesca Pfeifer Riedel. He was a 1932 graduate of Hays High School. He married Thelma G. Sander on June 3, 1941, in Victoria. She died Dec. 8, 2000. A resident of Victoria for 10 days, he worked at the Star and Fox Theaters and then as a gas serviceman with Central Kansas Power & Midwest Energy until his retirement in 1976. Riedel was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph’s Council 1325 of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, all of Hays. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during WW II as a paratrooper in England and France with the Army 82nd Airborne Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Survivors include four sons: Ken Riedel of Lakewood, Colo., Art Riedel, Jr. of Larned, Bill Riedel of Aurora, Colo., and Bob Riedel of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Kathy Petr of Wichita; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers: Damian Riedel, Felix Riedel, Rudolph Riedel, Edward Riedel and Clarence Riedel; and two sisters, Ella Hefner and Melinda Higby. Parish vigil service will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, both at Brock’s North Hill Chapel of Hays. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. David Metz officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s cemetery with graveside military honors by the Hays VFW. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 until 9:45 a.m. Thursday, all at the chapel. Memorials are suggested to TMP-Marian High School, St. Joseph’s Church, or St. John’s New Horizons, all in Hays, in care of the chapel. Dec. 10, 2002

Helen Folsom 1907-2002
HOISINGTON — Helen Folsom, 95, died Dec. 9 at Good Samaritan Home in Hays. She was born Jan. 9, 1907, at McCracken, the daughter of Kit Carson and Minnie Coleman Plotner. She married George M. Folsom May 20, 1929, at Great Bend. He died Aug. 27, 1974. A resident of Hays for the past four years, she was a longtime Hoisington resident, having settled there in 1937. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Eastside United Methodist Church of Newton and Order of the Eastern Star Una Chapter 119 of Hoisington. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Folsom of Hays and Wayne Folsom of Salina; one daughter, Joan K. TanBarge of Walton; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred Plotner, Ralph Plotner, Tom Plotner and Luke Plotner; five sisters, Hattie Ross, Jenny Wright, Mabel Shineman, Pam Evans and Nellie Plotner; and one granddaughter, Teri Marie Burdett. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington with the Rev. William C. Miller officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Home or donor’s choice, both in care of the funeral home. Dec. 10, 2002

Leo J. Kuhn 1905-2002
VICTORIA — Leo J. Kuhn, 97, died Dec. 7 at Hays Medical Center of Hays. He was born Jan. 7, 1905, at Victoria, the son of Joseph M. and Elizabeth Hoffman Kuhn. He married Katherine Billinger on June 18, 1935, at Victoria. She died Nov. 8, 1985. A resident of Hays for eight years, he was a teacher for 42 years in Ellis County, teaching at Lost Canyon, Emmeram, Severin, Blue Hill and Walker. Kuhn was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church of Victoria. Survivors include one son, Bill Kuhn of Hays; three daughters, Norma Jean Berens of Victoria, Doraleen Laprade and Myra Pinard, both of Hays; one brother, Francis Kuhn of Topeka; four sisters, Hilaria Windholz of Victoria, Leona Rohleder, Lillian Windholz and Martina Bieker, all of Hays; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Ray Kuhn, John Kuhn, Eugene Kuhn, Joseph Kuhn, Clarence Kuhn and two infant brothers; four sisters, Dena Riedel, Margaret Dinkel, Delphina Copp and Mary Brungardt; and two grandchildren. Funeral service was today at the church with the Rev. David Gottschalk officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery of Victoria. Memorials are suggested to the church or Masses, both in care of Cline’s Mortuary of Victoria. Dec. 9, 2002

Wanda Lola McMillan 1913-2002
STAFFORD — Wanda Lola McMillan, 89, died Dec. 7 at Stafford District Hospital of Stafford. She was born June 15, 1913, at Hutchinson, the daughter of Earl and Blanche Gere Allen. She was a 1932 graduate of Stafford High School. She married Meade Stanton McMillan on Nov. 27, 1932, at Hutchinson. He died Jan. 28, 1998. A longtime resident of Stafford, she was a homemaker. Mrs. McMillan was a member of First Christian Church of Stafford, Christian Women’s Fellowship, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and Bible school, member of North Star Community Club, assisted with Cub Scout meetings and was active with Girl Scouts and other teen groups. Survivors include two sons, Marvin McMillan of Stafford and Alan McMillan of St. John; one daughter, Sue Duckworth of Enid, Okla.; two sisters, Jane Allen Means of Maryland and Delores Allen Smith of Texas; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Clifford Allen. Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church with Richard Duckworth officiating. Burial will be at Stafford Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at Minnis Chapel of Stafford. Memorials are suggested to the church or Stafford District Hospital, both in care of the chapel. Dec. 9, 2002

Jeremy Trent Fisher 1987-2002
ST. JOHN — Jeremy Trent Fisher, 15, died Dec. 7 at Stafford District Hospital of Stafford. He was born Jan. 23, 1987, at Great Bend, the son of Gregory D. and Linda D. Blide Fisher. A sophomore at St. John High School, he was a resident of St. John. Fisher was a member of First United Methodist Church of St. John, KAYS and Pep Club, both of St. John High School. Survivors include his parents of St. John; one brother, Grant Fisher of St. John; one sister, Staci Fisher of St. John; his grandparents, Keith and Lucille Blide and Donald and Jeanne Fisher, all of St. John; and his great-grandmother, Ava DeBey of Downs. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. W. Harlan Rittgers officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park cemetery of St. John. Friends may call from 1-8 tonight at Minnis Chapel of St. John. Memorials are suggested to Jeremy T. Fisher Memorial Fund, in care of the chapel. Dec. 9, 2002

Fred L. Kline 1937-2002
HOISINGTON — Fred L. Kline, 64, died Dec. 6 at Central Kansas Medical Center of Great Bend. He was born Dec. 31, 1937, at Wood, S.D., the son of Fred Gotlibe and Mary Alice Kline. He married Martha Smith on June 26, 1967, at Fort Worth, Texas. A resident of Hoisington for 30 years, he was a power plant superintendent for the City of Hoisington for 21 years. Kline was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7428 of Hoisington. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife of the home; one stepson, Billy Reeves of Great Bend; two stepdaughters, Sherry Tuggle of Garden City and Joanne Young of Mineral Wells, Texas; one brother, Dennis Kline of Fort Worth; four sisters, Clara Bittner of Hoisington, Emma Hamit of Winona, Minn., Freda Weichman and May Cordry, both of Fort Worth; six step grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Al Kline, Walt Kline, David Kline and Dicky Dean Kline; and one sister, Georgia Russell. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home of Hoisington with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Blue Bonnett Hills cemetery of Colleyville, Texas. Friends may call from 1-9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home. Glenn J. Larsen 1919-2002
Glenn J. Larsen, 83, of Great Bend, died Dec. 8 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center of Great Bend. He was born Nov. 1, 1919, at Charden, the son of James Jewell and Pearl White Larsen. He married Maxine Deibert on Nov. 27, 1946, at Reno, Nev. A resident of Great Bend since 1946, coming from Colby, he was a superintendent for Lindholm Construction of Great Bend until his retirement. Larsen was a member of First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge AF & AM 15, American Legion Argonne Post 180 and Lake Barton Golf Club, all of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II as a corporal. Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Beverly Larsen Cole of Salina; two brothers, Norman Larsen of Kansas City, Mo., and Dean Larsen of Colby; three sisters, Frances Smith, Nancy Sanders and Mildred Jones, all of Colby; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Earle Larsen; and two sisters, Dorothy Schippert and Ruth Brickley. Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Gary Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park of Great Bend with Masonic graveside rites. Friends may call from 1-9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until noon, all at Bryant Funeral Home of Great Bend. Kyra May Mitchell 2001-2002
HOISINGTON — Kyra May Mitchell, 1, died Dec. 7 at Central Kansas Medical Center of Great Bend. She was born Nov. 11, 2001, at Wichita, the daughter of Bradley and Devon L. Reynolds Mitchell. She was a resident of Hoisington. Mitchell was baptized on Nov. 11, 2001, at Nazarene Church of Hoisington. Survivors include her parents of Hoisington; grandparents, Tina and Harold Reynolds of Hoisington, and Ronnie and Elva Mitchell of Ellinwood; and great-grandparents, Arlene Dietsch and Betty Reeve, both of Burlington, Iowa, Karen Hamby of Ellinwood and Archie D. Mitchell of Bolivar, Mo. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home of Hoisington with the Rev. Don Paden officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Florence A. Reinhardt 1909 - 2002
DENVER, Colo. — Florence A. Reinhardt, 93, died Dec. 5 at Red Rocks Nursing Home of Denver. She was born June 17, 1909 in Bison, the daughter of J.W. and Rosa Hanhardt Reinhardt. A 35 year resident of Denver, coming from Bison, she was an LPN at Porter Sanitarium of Denver before retirement. She was a member of the Denver South Seventh Adventist Church. Survivors include two sisters, Lenora Miller of Albert and Tillie Baker of Denver. She was preceded in death by one brother, Elton Reinhardt, and one sister, Vernetta Allen. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. today at the Janousek Funeral Home Chapel of La Crosse, with the Rev. Ed Jumper officiating. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Seventh Day Adventist Church of La Crosse, in care of the funeral home. Dec. 8, 2002

Julius J. “Hezzy” Werth 1924 - 2002
LA CROSSE — Julius J. “Hezzy” Werth, 78, died Dec. 6 at La Crosse. He was born March 26, 1924 at Schoenchen, the son of Anasius and Anna Jacobs Werth. He married Sylvia Brockmeier on April 10, 1971. A lifelong resident of Rush and Ellis counties, he was an auto body repairman before retirement. Werth was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church of La Crosse. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Charlotte M. Hall of Joplin, Mo., and Marcia D. Dreiling of Victoria; one brother, David Werth of Bullhead City, Ariz.; five sisters, Jean Fryberger of Vilas, Colo., Thelma Rowden and Elsie Miller, both of Salina, and Norma Jacobs and Anne McMillen, both of Fort Collins, Colo.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Werth, and two sisters, Hattie Degenhardt and Doris Amerin. Vigil service and rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Janousek Funeral Home of La Crosse. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church of Schoenchen, with the Revs. Alvin Werth and Charles Mazouch officiating. Burial will be at the Schoenchen cemetery of Schoenchen. Friends may call from 3-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, with family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Holy Cross Shrine of Pfeifer, in care of the funeral home. Dec. 8, 2002
