The Rev. Charles Edward Reed 1938-2004
MONROE, La. — The Rev. Charles Edward Reed, 66, died Feb. 17 at St. Francis Medical Center. He was the son of the Rev. Clarence and Eunice Reed. He was founder and chief executive officer of Lamb Broadcasting for 17 years. He was a minister for 50 years, ordained for more than 46 years with Assemblies of God Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lela Reed of Monroe; two sons, Bradley Charles Reed of Baton Rouge, La., and the Rev. Michael Todd Reed of West Monroe, La.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at House of Prayer International in Monroe with Dr. Richard Roberts and the Rev. Ronald Brown officiating. Burial will be at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Lamb Broadcasting, KMCT TV 39, P.O. Box 1345, Monroe, LA 71210. Mulhearn Funeral Home of Monroe is in charge of arrangements.

Clint W. Stewart 1970-2004
LARNED — Clint W. Stewart, 33, died Feb. 17 at Haven. He was born July 12, 1970, at Larned, the son of David and Phyllis Spreier Stewart. He was a 1989 graduate of Larned High School. He married Stacy McDonald. A resident of Larned, he was an airport security TSA at Wichita Airport.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Caley of Haven; one son, Caleb of Haven; his father of Larned; his mother of Sacramento, Calif.; stepfather, Michael Romo of Sacramento; one brother, Dallas of Sacramento; three sisters, Sandra Feldman of Great Bend, Jennifer Umiker of Sacramento and Nancy Kazmaier of Guam; one half-sister, Carrie Romo of Sacramento; and one stepbrother, Michael Romo Jr. of Sacramento. He was preceded in death by one half-sister, Pamela Romo.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Southern Baptist Church in Larned with the Rev. Ron Day officiating. Inurnment will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned. Memorials are suggested to Stewart Children Fund, in care of the funeral home.

G.O. ‘Gib’ Hauser 1911-2004
G.O. “Gib” Hauser, 92, of Great Bend, died Feb. 18 at Central Kansas Medical Center of Great Bend. He was born May 28, 1911, at Ellinwood, the son of Ernest and Anna Lebbin Hauser. He married Lillian Klusener. He married Fern Harman Sept. 26, 1936. She died Dec. 22, 1997. A resident of Great Bend since 1936, living in Barton County most of his life, he was a salesman for Home Improvements.
Hauser was a member of First Christian Church and Elks Lodge, both of Great Bend, and Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Survivors include two daughters, Elmaleda McMinn of Emporia and Wanda Komarek of Great Bend; one brother, Floyd Hauser of Great Bend; one sister, Evelyn Davis of Wichita; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon Hauser; and one sister, Dorothy Hancock.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Memorials are suggested to the church in care of the funeral home.

Darryl Willis ‘Pete’ Lange 1937 - 2004
HOLLAND, Texas — Darryl Willis “Pete” Lange, 66, died Feb. 11 at his home in Holland. He was born July 12, 1937, at Ellinwood, the son of Willis and Marie Seibel Lange. He was a 1955 graduate of Ellinwood High School, attended Emporia State University and graduated from Wichita Business College. He married Doris Mendoza June 17, 1966, at Holland. A resident of Holland for 39 years, coming from Ellinwood, he was a warehouse manager for Friend Tire Company.
Lange was a member of United Methodist Church in Holland.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, David Lange of Austin, Texas; and two sisters, Deloris Parks of Round Rock, Texas, and Donna Hatcher of Ellinwood. He was preceded in death by one son, Terry Lange; and one brother, Bernard Lange.
Funeral services were held Feb. 13 in Bartlet, Texas. Memorials are suggested to Ellinwood Public School and Library Foundation, in care of Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood.

Donna L. Schlenz 1938-2004
Donna L. Schlenz, 66, of Great Bend, died Feb. 16 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She was born Feb. 26, 1938, in Missouri, the daughter of Vincent and Roberta Atkinson Dicus. She married Robert Schlenz Sept. 21, 1953, in Clayton, N.M. He died Feb. 27, 1993. A resident of Great Bend since 1999, coming from Iuka and Preston, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, John Schlenz of Midvale, Ohio, and Chris Schlenz of Hannibal, Mo.; one daughter, Rashell Alsup of Ellinwood; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, David Schlenz; and one sister, Pat Snyder.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Larrison Mortuary in Pratt, with the Rev. Doyle Smith officiating. Burial will be at Haynesville cemetery in Preston. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Kansas Foundation for the Blind or American Diabetes, both in care of the mortuary.

Robert ‘Bob’ G. Oberle 1947-2004
MISSION — Robert “Bob” G. Oberle, 56, passed away Feb. 16 at University of Kansas Medical Center of lymphoma. Born in Dodge City on March 28, 1947, to Edna and George Oberle, he married Linda Kay Stout, his high school sweetheart, on July 25, 1965. They were married 38 years. Bob was a member and a deacon of Nall Avenue Baptist Church in Prairie Village, active in the Mission Springs Garden Club as well as the “Moanen-Bones” domino group. He and Linda Kay had “Bob the Handyman Service” in the Kansas City-area.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Linda Kay; son Dr. Tony L. Oberle and his wife Dr. Suzanne and their children Shashanna, Drew and Joseph of New Iberia, La.; daughter Sandi Kay Contreras, husband Hector, and daughters Celsie, Chrystina and Cassandra of Maywood, Neb. Also surviving are his mother Edna of Great Bend; sister Marlene Schwartz and her husband Leo of Houston, Texas; brother Larry Oberle and his wife Sharon of Ellinwood; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his father, George, on Nov. 4, 1998.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Nall Avenue Baptist church, 5401 W. 67th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208. Life celebration services will follow at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning at Nall Avenue Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bob Clark officiating. Graveside service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at Great Bend Cemetery, with the Rev. Doyle Smith officiating, followed by visitation with the family at First Southern Baptist Church fellowship hall in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to Benevolence Fund at Nall Avenue Baptist Church.

John K. Hunter Sr. 1919-2004
LARNED — John K. Hunter Sr., 84, died Feb. 18 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in Larned. He was born Sept. 22, 1919, at Scottsville, the son of Carl B. and Gladys M. Hillan Hunter. He married Ruby Louise Stewart Aug. 23, 1948, at Oklahoma City, Okla. A resident of Larned since July 1966, coming from Beloit, he was a retired sales manager for Doerr International Dealership of Larned.
Hunter was of the Christian faith, and member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, both of Larned. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, John Hunter Jr. of Larned; one stepson, Jim Hunter of Salina; four daughters, Saundra Phillips of Garfield, Patricia Dizmang of Curtis, Neb., Joan Donovan of Larned and Judy Smith of Topeka; two sisters, Charlotte Mooney of Salina and Floy Johnson of Jamestown; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, C. Geneva Pracht.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned, with the Rev. Dan Lundgren officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Long Term Care or Relay for Life, both in care of the funeral home.

Virginia C. Stanley Jarmer 1920-2004
Virginia C. Stanley Jarmer, 83, of Great Bend, died Feb. 16 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. She was born Oct. 22, 1920, at St. Marks, the daughter of Matthias J. and Frances Marie Schneider Simon. She married Leo Hoffman July 1970 in Fowler. He died Nov. 21, 1975. She married John Hoffman Oct. 22, 1976, at Great Bend. He died Feb. 14, 1977. She married Joe Z. Stanley May 16, 1981, at Great Bend. He died May 18, 1988. She married John F. Jarmer May 30, 1992, at Great Bend. He died July 17, 1994. A resident of Great Bend since 1976, coming from Fowler, she was a retired licensed practical nurse and hospital dietary specialist for Sisters of St. Joseph in Wichita. She was an associate of Dominican Sisters in Great Bend and a former member of Sisters of St. Joseph of Wichita.
Mrs. Jarmer was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary and past president of Ladies Auxiliary FOE, all of Great Bend. She had also been a teacher in the Reach Program for more than 12 years and was a volunteer for Fort Hays State University Senior Companion Program. She was also a “Grand Friend” to Blake Stanley and Kaitlee Spray at Holy Family School.
Survivors include two stepsons, Bill J. Stanley of Great Bend and Robert Hoffman of Cheyenne Wells; three stepdaughters, Agnes Hoffman Birzer of Offerle, LaVerne Hoffman Leis and Ferna Hoffman Beckerman, both of Fowler; two brothers, Wilbur J. Schneider of Enid, Okla., and Robert E. Schneider of Goddard; two sisters, Kathleen Ann Marshall of Wichita and Lila Jean Pederson of Haysville; 12 stepgrandchildren; 20 step great-grandchildren; 28 nieces and nephews; 70 great-nieces and nephews; 24 great-great-nieces and nephews; and one godson, Danny Schneider. She was preceded in death by one stepson, Harold Hoffman; three stepdaughters, Dorothy Hoffman Herring, Delores Herrman and JoAnn Thomas; two brothers, Marvin Schneider and Homer Schneider; and one sister, Norma Schneider.
Altar Society rosary will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Vigil and Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with Father Reginald Urban officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Holy Family School Endowment Fund or American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home.

May Elizabeth Wing 1918-2004
WINFIELD — May Elizabeth Wing, 85, died Feb. 16 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield. She was born Nov. 1, 1918, on a farm near Hoisington, the daughter of Ralph G. and Nella Maude Campbell Smith. She was a 1936 graduate of Great Bend High School. She married J. “Clyde” Wing Feb. 15, 1937, in Great Bend. He died June 28, 1983. A resident of Winfield, coming from Great Bend, Medicine Lodge, Hillsboro and Eureka, she worked at Graves Drug Store in Great Bend and was co-owner and operator of pharmacies in Medicine Lodge, Hillsboro and Eureka.
Mrs. Wing was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winfield, AARP and a volunteer for William Newton Hospital Auxiliary for 10 years.
Survivors include one brother, Ralph “Bud” Smith of Elliott’s Bay, Md.; and one sister, Margaret Button of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Ralph Wing; and one sister, Rosalind Almquist.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to William Newton Hospital Auxiliary, in care of the funeral home.

Jennie L. Shireman 1912-2003
TULSA, Okla. — Jennie L. Shireman, 91, died Dec. 29, 2003, at Tulsa. She was born June 14, 1912, at Barton County, the daughter of David and Nora Kluesner Thorne. She married William M. Shireman Sept. 23, 1929, at Pretty Prairie. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include three brothers, Marvin Thorne of Mesa, Ariz., Alfred Thorne of Hoisington and August Thorne of Wichita; three sisters, Evadean Seyfert of Claflin, Gladys Cary of Lakewood, Colo., and Norma Jean Thornburg of Union City, Calif.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lois Miller; and one sister, Pearl Spruill.
Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hoisington Cemetery, with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington is in charge of arrangements.
