Leonard Sittner 1917-2004
HUDSON — Leonard Sittner, 86, died Feb. 8 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born July 30, 1917, at rural Hudson, the son of Max F.A. and Helen L. Rickher Sittner. He married Yvonne Widener June 20, 1939, at Ellinwood. A lifetime resident of the Hudson area, he was a farmer, and an insurance agent and adjuster for Farmer’s Mutual Insurance Company.
Sittner was a member of Peace United Church of Christ and held many offices within the church, including treasurer.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Diana K. McLeod of Wichita; nephew and caregiver, Gary Fischer and wife, Elaine, of Hudson; and one grandson, Derek Triplett and his wife, Mollie. He was preceded in death by one brother, August Sittner; and five sisters, Amelia Lubinus, Helen Fischer, Lydia Spangenberg, Anna Schrepel and an infant.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church, with Wade Russell officiating. Burial will be at Peace Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford. Family will greet friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel. Friends may also view from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. The casket will be closed after 11:30 a.m. Memorials are suggested to the church or Golden Belt Hospice, both in care of the chapel.

Ella W. Dunegan 1918-2004
Ella W. Dunegan, 85, of Great Bend died Feb. 6 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She was born May 25, 1918 at Las Animas, Colo., the daughter of Chester and Venus Phillips Boone. She married Charles Young on Aug. 22, 1936 at Sedan. He died Jan. 14, 1965. She married Patrick Dunegan on Sept. 1, 1967 at Great Bend. He died Feb. 5, 1973. A resident of Great Bend since 1956, coming here from Peru, Kan., she was a secretary for USD 428 for 25 years, retiring in 1981.
Dunegan was a member of First United Methodist Church of Great Bend.
Survivors include one son, Ronald C. Young, of Russell; two step-sons, Patrick Dunegan, of Kimball, Neb., and John Dunegan, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; one brother, Clyde Boone, of Fort Morgan, Colo.; two sisters, Doree Swearengin Kelly, and Page Dinges, both of Mesa, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Boone and Don Boone, and one sister, Esther Boone.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Edward Warren ‘Ed’ Green 1951-2004
Edward Warren “Ed” Green, 52, of Great Bend, died of natural causes Feb. 5 at Great Bend. He was born Oct. 5, 1951, in Larned, the son of Berton J. and Charlotte R. Green. He was a 1970 graduate of Kinsley High School, attended St. John schools, Barton County Community College and Fort Hays State University. A resident of Great Bend since 1973, he was a retired law enforcement officer, working at Barton County Sheriff’s Office for 20 years and Great Bend Police Department for five years.
Green was a past member of Kansas Sheriff’s Association and Kansas Peace Officers’ Association.
Survivors include his mother of St. John; one brother, Bruce Green of Great Bend; and one sister, Cynthia May of Sterling, Colo.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Minnis Chapel in St. John, with the Rev. Dick Ogle officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park cemetery in St. John. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral chapel.

Charles David Murdie 1913-2004
GARFIELD — Charles David Murdie, 90, died Feb. 5 at his home. He was born Aug. 13, 1913, at Eskridge, the son of John and Carrie Doty Murdie. He married Lillie Elizabeth Blose Nov. 1, 1935, in Garfield. A longtime resident of Garfield, he was a retired employee of Garfield Cooperative.
Murdie was a member of United Methodist Church of Garfield, past fire chief for 10 years and Garfield city councilman for one term.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Virgil Lee Murdie of Lake Shore, Mich., and Kenneth LaRoy “Skip” Murdie of Garfield; two daughters, Virginia Mae Moore and Linda Louise Blakley, both of Stillwell; one half-sister, Effie Varney of Topeka; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Leon Murdie.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Garfield Cemetery, with the Rev. Ken Walker officiating. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today at Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Association, in care of the funeral home.

Donald W. Jensen 1924-2004
ELLINWOOD — Donald W. Jensen, 79, died Feb. 7 at Hutchinson. He was born Aug. 23, 1924 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Thorwald R. and Marguerite Doherty Jensen. An Independent Insurance agent and owner of Jensen Associates in Ellinwood, he was a resident of Ellinwood since 1952, having moved there from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married Jean Bowker on April 18, 1946 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Jensen was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Ellinwood; Professional Insurance Agents of Kansas; Independent Insurance Agents of Barton County; past president of Ellinwood School Board; state school board association; Lions Club; the Barton County Crime Stoppers board; United Way board; 1989 Rotary Citizen of the Year; Peoples State Bank Board of Directors, Ellinwood; American Legion and VFW, both of Ellinwood; Boy Scouts coordinator; and Grove Park Golf Club, Ellinwood. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the 82nd Airborne 508th Parachute Infantry, serving in the Normandy Invasion, Battle of the Bulge, Operation Market Garden, and was a member of the Eisenhower Honor Guard.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Jeffrey S. Jensen, of Great Bend, Jon J. Jensen, of Topeka, and Josh A. Jensen, of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Kristin Weis, of Richardson, Texas, and Kathryn L. Jensen, of Hays; one sister, Marilyn R. Jensen, of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Ann Ireland, and by one brother, James R. Jensen.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Andy Keltner officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to the church, the school library foundation or Hospice House of Reno County, in care of the funeral home.

Lee Ray Dixon 1934-2004
Lee Ray Dixon, 69, of Great Bend, died Feb. 5 at Great Bend. He was born Nov. 29, 1934, at Pawnee Rock, the son of Fredrick Earl and Gladys Friend Dixon. He married Lois Marie Smith Nov. 14, 1953, in Great Bend. She died Aug. 5, 1997. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was owner and operator of Dixon Rentals.
Dixon was a member of Eagles Lodge and guest member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Great Bend.
Survivors include one son, Nathan Dixon of the home; one daughter, Glenda Short of Great Bend; one brother, Gerald Dixon of Great Bend; three sisters, Frances Miller of Walnut Grove, Calif., Phyllis Becker of Great Bend and Mary Beth Golson of Duncan, Okla.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Debra Sue Dixon; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Terry J. Ferris officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, all at the funeral home. Opal Berger 1917-2004
JETMORE — Opal Berger, 86, died Feb. 6 at Via Christi Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita. She was born March 21, 1917 in Pawnee County, the daughter of David and Katherine Schuldies Spreier. She married Chet M. Berger on Oct. 15, 1941 at Burdett. He died Sept. 22, 1980. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker.
Berger was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Jetmore, and was affiliated with the Jetmore Senior Center.
Survivors include one son, Larry Berger, of Jetmore; and one sister, Dorothy Constant, of Larned. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Spreier and Fred Spreier Jr., and four sisters, Laura Wiedemann, Marjorie Gorier, Esther Spreier and Viola Balman.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Brad Hansen officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount cemetery in Jetmore. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Monday at Beckwith Funeral Home, in Jetmore. Memorials are suggested to Jetmore High School Athletics in care of the funeral home.

Roy Dee Winkelman 1948-2004
ELLINWOOD — Roy Dee Winkelman, 55, died Feb. 5 at his home. He was born Nov. 14, 1948, at Lyons, the son of LaVerne W. and Marguerite Schurz Winkelman. A resident of Ellinwood for the past six months, coming from Wichita and Chase, he was a production supervisor for Cessna at Wichita and relief gauger for Kaw Pipeline at Chase.
Winkelman was a member of Community Presbyterian Church of Chase. He was a veteran of U.S. Army Reserves, serving during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff Winkelman of Chase and Lonnie Winkelman of Lyons; one daughter, Michelle Winkelman of Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, Terry Winkelman of Ellinwood; two sisters, Mary Sue Mulvaney of Tulsa, Okla., and Debby Boyce of Medicine Lodge; and two grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Ellinwood, with the Rev. Andy Keltner officiating. Burial will be at Springdale cemetery in Chase. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kimple Funeral Home of Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to Roy Winkelman Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Delton H. Evers 1938-2004
Delton H. Evers, 65, of Great Bend, died Feb. 4 at Central Kansas Medical Center at Great Bend. He was born Feb. 9, 1938, at Great Bend, the son of Harley Ray and Ruth Elizabeth Alefs Evers. He married Jean Nieses June 4, 1988, at Wichita. A resident of Great Bend most of his life, he was co-owner and custom fabricator for J & D Inc. and was involved in farming.
He was a member of First Christian Church and Elks Lodge, both of Great Bend, American Legion of Larned, past president of Great Bend Jaycees and a Boy Scouts of America volunteer.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Robert H. Evers of Great Bend; two stepsons, Dean Weir of Dallas, Texas, and Steve Weir of Valley Center; three daughters, Kathy Evers and Kala Linenberger, both of Great Bend, and Karla Degner of Hutchinson; one stepdaughter, Brenda Chandler of Valley Center; his father of Great Bend; one brother, David Evers of Great Bend; one sister, Delores Piper of Missouri City, Texas; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at the church, with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend cemetery in Great Bend. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service time today at the church. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home.
