Doris L. Taylor 1917-2004
MANHATTAN – Doris L. Taylor, 86, died April 1 at Meadowlark Hills Homestead House in Manhattan. She was born May 11, 1917, on a farm near Ada, the daughter of Arthur and Inez Hallock Baldwin. She attended schools in Minneapolis and earned a teaching certificate from Emporia State Teachers College. She married Norris M. Taylor Sr. Nov. 12, 1942. He died June 24, 1997. A resident of Manhattan since 1993, coming from Wichita and Great Bend, she taught in a one-room school house in Bennington and Miltonvale and worked for Boeing until her marriage.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of United Methodist Church in Wichita.
Survivors include two sons, Norris M. Taylor Jr. of Lenexa and Cash Taylor of Derby; three daughters, Tamara “Tami” Yeager of Manhattan, Cynthia Taylor-Dudding of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Terryl Quinn of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Robert Baldwin of Salina; three sisters, Marilyn Thomas of Clay Center, Irene Richardson of Las Vegas, Nev., and Marjorie Dickson of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Gilbert Baldwin; and two sisters, Grace Voran and Fern Bradley.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel in Manhattan, with the Rev. Victor Force officiating. Memorials are suggested for Alzheimer’s Association or Meadowlark Hills Foundation, both in care of the funeral home.

Shirley Loriene Wedgewood 1948-2004
Shirley Loriene Wedgewood, 55, of Great Bend, died April 2 at her home. She was born Sept. 20, 1948, at Hockerville, Okla., the daughter of Chester and Dorothy Bell Farmer Bryant. She married Robert Wedgewood July 22, 1978, at Ellinwood. A resident of Barton County for most of her life, she was a homemaker and also worked for Barton County Community College in the cleaning department and for Great Bend Industries.
Mrs. Wedgewood was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Lonnie Lee Marquis of Great Bend, Michael Alan Wedgewood of Kansas City, Mo., and Jeffrey Dean Wedgewood of Lawrence; two daughters, Tina Marie Robertson and Darla Sue Sporn, both of Great Bend; her mother of Hoisington; two sisters, Sharon L. Herrman of Hoisington and Reenea Bryant of Great Bend; 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Dwight Dozier officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery in Great Bend. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

Marie E. Vondracek 1930-2004
TIMKEN — Marie E. Vondracek, 74, died April 1 at her home. She was born Feb. 2, 1930, at Olmitz, the daughter of Andrew and Stefanne Proksch Felder. She married Frank Vondracek Aug. 30, 1950, at Timken. He died July 15, 2000. A resident of Timken, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Vondracek was a member of Holy Trinity Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society and Catholic Workman, all of Timken.
Survivors include five sons, Steven Vondracek and his wife Susan of Dorrance, Anthony Vondracek, Francis Vondracek and Charles Vondracek and his wife Lila, all of Timken, David Vondracek and his wife Cindy of Wichita; one daughter, Mary Ernst and her husband Robert of St. Joe, Ost; three brothers, Joseph Felder of Kinsley, Vernon Felder of Nekoma and Louis Felder of WaKeeney; two sisters, Bertha Johnson of Andover and Pauline Oborny of Wichita; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Sister Dorothy Felder OP; and one grandchild, John Brooks.
Vigil and rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Janousek Funeral Home of La Crosse. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with Father Charles Mazouch and Father Ultan Murphy officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross cemetery in Timken. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Dominican Sisters in Great Bend or St. Ann’s Altar Society, both in care of the funeral home.

Jack Leroy Richardson 1934-2004
ALBERT— Jack Leroy Richardson, 69, died April 2 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born July 23, 1934, at Great Bend, the son of Harold “Bay” and Georgia Weiser Richardson. He married Linda Comer July 22, 1961, in Larned. A lifetime area resident, he was a self-employed electrician working for Valley Electric.
Richardson was a member of Albert Methodist Church and the Albert Fire Department. He served on the Albert City Council and was a former baseball coach for the American League baseball program. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his friend, Linda Richardson, of Great Bend; three daughters, Debra Burden of rural Pawnee Rock, Natalie Sharkey of Albert and Brenda Coston of Wichita; two brothers, David Richardson of Albert and Charles Richardson of Great Bend; two sisters, Janice Evert of Mohave Valley, Ariz., and Joyce Kultgen of Albert; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Randy Richardson, and one brother, Dale Richardson.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Gary Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Albert Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home and 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Albert Fire Department or Otis-Bison High School in care of the funeral home.

Herman Schwein 1911-2004
MACKSVILLE — Herman Schwein, 92, died March 31 at Lakepoint Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Augusta. He was born Nov. 23, 1911, at Hoisington, the son of Henry and Johannah Meier Schwein. A resident of Macksville, coming from Hoisington, he was a former owner of Herman’s Tavern of Hoisington.
Schwein was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 286 and charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7428, all of Hoisington. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II.
Survivors include one son, Rick Schwein of McAllen, Texas; one daughter, Kim Spickard of Wichita; one sister, Thelma Hagner of Salina; four grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Leo Schwein, Emanuel Schwein, Jake Schwein, Emil Schwein, Raymond Schwein, Paul Schwein, and Leroy Schwein; and one sister, Elsie Riley.
Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Hoisington Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 286 and VFW Post 7428. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Memorials are suggested to VFW Post 7428, Lakepoint Nursing and Rehabilitation Center or Faith Hospice of Wichita, all in care of the funeral home.

Marguerite Darcey 1913-2004
Marguerite Darcey, 90, of Great Bend, died March 31 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. She was born Sept. 21, 1913, in Pawnee Rock, the daughter of Grant and Maude Artley Flick. She married James Darcey July 10, 1937, in Pawnee Rock. He died Aug. 28, 1999. A resident of Great Bend since 1978, coming from rural Pawnee Rock, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Darcey was a member of First United Methodist Church of Great Bend, where she was a special friend of Fanshier-Knipe Circle, and a former member of 20th Century Club of Pawnee Rock.
Survivors include three sons, Lowell Darcey of Great Bend, Lynn Darcey of Newton and Ronald Darcey of Nashville, Ark.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Sarah Ione Flick; two half-brothers; and two half-sisters.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Gary Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Pawnee Rock Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Dianna Marie Lamb 1956-2004
Dianna Marie Lamb, 47, of Great Bend, died March 26 at an Ellinwood care facility. She was born April 11, 1956, at La Crosse, the daughter of George Afton and Beatrice Cashman Couch. She was a 1974 graduate of Great Bend High School. She married Danny Lamb. They were divorced. A resident of the Great Bend community most of her life, she worked as a nurses aide.
She was a member of the Christian Church.
Survivors include one son, Jason Lamb of Wichita; one daughter, Danielle Hunt of Ellinwood; three brothers, David Couch of Pearl City, Hawaii, Warren Couch of Great Bend and Darrel Couch of Mayetta; one sister, Marcia Potts of Mayetta; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held March 29 at Potawatomi Pentecostal Church west of Mayetta. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Dianna Lamb Memorial Fund, in care of Mercer Funeral Home, 1101 W. 4th St., Holton, KS 66436.

Scott L. Iverson 1955-2004
MCPHERSON — Scott L. Iverson, 48, died March 30 at his home. He was born Sept. 25, 1955, at Emporia, the son of Glendon S. and Bonnabelle M. Bailey Iverson. He married Marilyn G. Weakley Feb. 21, 1975, at Emporia. A resident of McPherson since 1974, coming from Emporia, he was a welder and maintenance engineer supervisor at Femco Inc. in McPherson for 30 years.
He was a member of First Christian Church, was a Boy Scout leader and a volunteer at the McPherson County Teen Center.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Travis Iverson and Kevin Iverson, both of McPherson; one daughter, Amy Jantz of McPherson, and his parents of Emporia. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Iverson.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. John Gran officiating. The body was cremated. Memorials are suggested to Abilene-Smoky Valley Railroad, in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home.

Jebadiah James ‘Jeb’ Manning 1981-2004
HAYS — Jebadiah James “Jeb” Manning, 23, died May 21 at his parents’ home in Hays. He was born April 22, 1981, at Wichita, the son of Jim and Janie Hickel Manning. He was a 1999 graduate of Hays High School and North Central Kansas Technical College. He married Amanda Ehrlich July 30, 2003. A resident of Hays, coming from Flippin, Ark., and Ness City, he was a student of Fort Hays State University, majoring in psychology, and employed by Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas.
Manning was a member of Hays City Sportsman’s Club and United States Autosound Competition, winning fourth place in the world competition.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Gavin of the home; his parents of Hays; and one sister, Elly Manning of Hays.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hays. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for Jeb Manning’s son’s education in care of Hays Memorial Chapel, 20th and Pine, Hays, KS 67601.

Eleanor T. Hickey 1916-2004
OLMITZ — Eleanor T. Hickey, 88, died May 28 at Cherry Village Residential Care in Great Bend. She was born May 14, 1916, at Redwing, the daughter of Frank and Minnie Steiner Steiner. She married Elmer J. Hickey May 14, 1946, in Odin. He died March 19, 1978. A resident of Olmitz since 1946, coming from the Odin area, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Anns Catholic Church and Altar Society, both of Olmitz.
Survivors include a son, John Hickey and his wife, Charlene, of Olmitz; a sister, Frances Blazek of Claflin; one granddaughter; and two great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Frank Steiner, Gus Steiner, Fritz Steiner, Billy Steiner and Bob Steiner; two sisters, Marie “Sis” Scheuler and Sylvia “Tibbie” Menzer.
A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the church followed by an Altar Society Rosary. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, with the Rev. Ultan Murphy officiating. Burial will be at St. Ann Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-5 p.m. today at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home and 6:30 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Ann cemetery Fund or Otis Ambulance Service, both in care of the funeral home.
